One of my favorite coffee house/bakeries on the island! Always worth the short trek to get to the Handlebar Cafe. Just look for the old blue Chevy pick-up truck in the drive way and you're there. First time visiting Nantucket and I got to try Handlebar Cafe which is located right across the street from the bus terminal. It is a simple cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. They have a selection of drinks including a variety of coffee drinks, teas and matcha latte. As a popular tourist spot, this location sells merchandise as well. There are a few hydrangea bushes outside. I tried their ice latte with vanilla and oatmilk. It wasn't too sweet and served with less ice as I requested. The service was quick and friendly. This is by far the best coffee/ cafe in town. We have visited every morning and have tried iced vanilla lattes, matchas, chias, pastries and their nitro cold brew! Their nitro cold brew is one of the best we've ever had. They also have a variety of different cold drinks to grab to go, and island papers to read while in line. The line moves fast, and they have plenty of staff working, and you're in and out! I think their drinks are VERY reasonably priced for what you get. Grab a bag of their beans to bring home. HANDLEBAR CAFE is one of the best coffee shops in the island. This cafe opens early. They have a large and quaint and air-conditioned indoor dining area. Very Nantucket. They also have a large front yard with many chairs and tables and an awesome vintage truck to boot. They have strong and delicious coffee that you can enjoy while partaking of their wifi! Best coffee on the island? That's word on the street, and after trying 4 different places, I agree. My Americano was delicious. The service was quiet, but fine. This cafe is new since I was last on the island and what a wonderful addition! My latte was probably the best one I've had at a cafe/coffee shop all summer. A lot of variety of flavors and milks! One caveat is the large and small iced lattes have the same amount of espresso (one double shot), just a variation in milk quantity. Do yourself a favor and just get the small. read more

I came here with my friend since we were staying in the area and wanted to check it out. They have a cute outdoor seating area, and some tables inside as well. Their drink menu is pretty extensive and they also have pastries and other light fare to eat. They sell coffee, hats and other merch with their logo on it and the service was great. I found this super cute freshly ground coffee shop on the island of Nantucket. It's not easy to find a place that truly has great coffee, even after reading reviews. The perception of great coffee truly lies with the individual and what might be great to one, not so much to the next. For me, Handlebar aced all my coffee needs, considering the availability of great coffee on the island is slim to none. Easy to order, and they have a cute few tables & chairs outside to sip & watch the people go by. It is also dog friendly with water bowls at the ready. It's kind of off the beaten path so it's not super busy. That made it all the more attractive to me. It's almost like a neighborhood joint with locals frequenting the place. It's also across the street from a bus depot which didn't really make any difference to the volume of people in the coffee shop. read more

The worst matcha ever!!!! Ordered a vanilla iced matcha with light ice with almond milk. A 10 year old was taking my order and only wrote down iced matcha. They got my order wrong... The matcha it's self was watery bc they fil the whole cup up with ice and also added no sweetener. I had them remake it but it still did not taste good. I had to go over to the corner table to add some more milk and simple syrup. Definitely don't go here for matcha! read more

Got coffees here with my husband. I actually didn't even go inside because I had the kids in a double stroller, my husband went inside and ordered and brought it out to us. So couldn't even tell you what it looks like inside. But it was nice sitting outside and they had a cool classic car sitting out there with their logo on it. We were thrilled to have discovered this coffee shop on the island. It was a blisteringly hot day and we needed a pick me up after our ferry ride. They had a long line but it was worth the wait. A delicious iced americano was had! The staff is quite young and they try to work quickly to meet the needs of all their customers. The blueberry muffin was also so tasty and fresh. They brew compass coffee which we had never heard of before being from the west coast and we really loved it. One of the owners of Compass was there visiting that day. The best coffee on the island hands down. Get the nitro cold brew, unlike any other nitro you have ever had. Great walk from the ferry down the bike path which a nice coffee reward at the end! Good, not great. The owner is very accommodating, we went during Covid and our child has sensory issues but he was more than happy to work with us to make sure we got to try it. The park straws were a tad flimsy and mine was no longer usable before I could finish my coffee. I'd probably go back if I am ever in the area again. read more

My husband and I visited on a cold, rainy, and windy day. I had this coffee shop bookmarked on my collection in my Yelp app. I was I researched so we knew exactly where to go. We enjoyed our first visit grabbing lattes and muffins to go. Our second visit was even better when we took the time to take a seat, enjoy our hot drinks, and read the literature provided. This is an eclectic little shop we're all are welcomed, even your furry friends. Everyone we encountered was friendly and knowledgeable of the many options. Overall, this is a great addition to the island overall. The space is great for hanging out and the owners and staff are incredibly friendly. However, if your are a coffee aficionado/snob (which I admit to being), don't set your bar too high. While this place is a significant step up from stale diner coffee, it's drinks are more on par with Starbucks than Blue Bottle. The cappuccino's come in 12 oz cups (again, starbuck-ish) and, last I checked, none of the beans for retail have a roasted date. There are so many great roasters in Massachusetts, it be great so see them step up the bean game! Again, not something many people will notice or care about, but left me disappointed. I haven't found a place on island that has coffee at the level that I prefer, so handlebar will continue to be my go onto for now. read more
