This is another local spot in Woods Hole that has become a regular "must have" when we are visiting. It can be breakfast or lunch or any time of day. They can make any of their items, any time, love the concept. It is at the edge of the business district as you enter town from Falmouth. (The other end of Water St dumps into Buzzard's Bay!) It is but a block away from the Island Ferry's dock. Not only do passengers for the ferry count on it, so do the students and staff at the Marine Biological Lab and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and, of course, the myriads of tourists all summer, to add to the year around crowds. It can be swamped and relatively slow to get food if a ferry has just docked, so be patient, the huge staff is working as fast as they can. The inside seating is tight, but most locals take their food and drinks to go. The patio is mostly covered and can seat a lot of tourists like us. The Ferry riders also take to go if leaving and eat here if returning from the Vineyard and not taking the shuttle back to the huge parking lots in Falmouth right away. No matter what time of day we are in town, I have always ordered the same thing in recent years since it was added to the menu. I have never seen an egg, bacon and cheese sandwich served on a freshly baked popover anywhere else. I love popovers and always order when I find one in a unique version. My husband orders with more variety and he gets coffee and I get iced tea. If our stay is longer than this one, we also love taking out their freshly baked pastries. Every single staff member has always been helpful and courteous. You could never wish for anything more in this town, for these sorts of meals. Outstanding! My turkey wrap was fantastic - loaded with turkey and had great flavor. It had bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. My wife had a ham and cheese sandwich with apple, and she devoured it. It was so tasty! The chocolate chip cookie was big, soft, and packed with chocolate. The outdoor patio was big and comfortable. We were able to get a spot and not be crushed by relentless wind. As a vegan, options are scarce in this area but Pie in the Sky typically has at least a couple labeled vegan options which is SO appreciated! The vegan cookies are excellent and very hefty, and there is also usually a vegan muffin flavor that changes often. The bakery can get extremely crowded with long waits, especially right after the ferry docks, so I recommend placing an order online for ease/convenience (be warned, though, that if they have a rush these orders can sometimes get lost/overlooked and might not be out at the pickup counter at the time given on your receipt). I've tried all the vegan options and my go-tos are the falafel wrap (minus the dairy), frozen raspberry lemonade, and the vegan cowboy cookie (with still melty chocolate chips!). The vegan muffins are hit and miss (sometimes very dry, sometimes delicious and moist) and the avocado toast when I got it had only the thinnest saddest layer of avocado so I can't recommend those. Went here today to enjoy the weather and grab cold drinks. My sister had a smoothie and my hubs and I had iced coffees. And I got a peanut butter cookie to share. Our drinks were great. Smooth coffee. The cookie was so dry and tasted nothing like peanut butter. Sad. The staff seemed harried and unfriendly. The atmosphere outside was dirty. Tables needed wiping and trash on the ground, etc We wiped down our table and when I threw away our trash I had trouble locating a trash receptacle. This is a great spot near the water in Woods Hole but it seems the management doesn't value this location. Hope it improves soon. read more

I was delighted to find this cute little coffee spot in Woods Hole when waylaid due to an impending hurricane. It is such an anomaly to find a cafe that is open past 5:00pm, and it was exciting to see that Pie in the Sky stays open later for the perfect after dinner coffee or tea treat. The inside of the shop is cozy and warm, and there's ample seating both indoors and on the outdoor patio. They roast all their beans in house (peep the giant machine inside to prove it!), and the pastries are baked fresh daily- nothing random lying around in cases for days on end like some other spots I've visited. My coffee was flavorful and strong, and the accompanying blueberry muffins had a tasty streusel topping. It made for a nice light evening snack, and also a welcome respite from needing to go hang out at a bar after dinner just because nothing else is open. Service was prompt and friendly, there was a short line, but the team kept everything moving. It is definitely a popular pre and post ferry spot due to its proximity to the docks, and you will want to add Pie in the Sky to your list if you ever find yourself in Woods Hole and wanting coffee after 5pm! read more

Recommended by the bike shop owner to stop and grab food while doing the trail. Excited to come in however staff was not friendly and I just felt so out of place and rushed to make a decision. After reading the menu I had my heart set on a lobster roll and clam chowder with a iced green tea however that was immediately shot down when I was very shortly advised they didn't have green tea or the lobster roll. I didn't understand the not having green tea given the menu stated they had it. Rushed I just ordered the salad with chicken salad on it and a plain unsweetened black tea. After we ate and I got up to dispose of trash, I saw they had bottled Harney & Sons green tea. So I grabbed 1 given I love Harney tea! Great stop on my bike ride from Falmouth. They have a bike rack in the front. There is a single restroom. You order at the counter inside and they call your name when it's ready. This place gets very very busy so come early and don't come toooo hungry because if get later in the am the line gets long. But! The service is quick. When ordering sandwiches that will take a bit. Everything was great! But since when is breakfast so expensive o_o This spot was BOOMING when we arrived but it's understandably when you consider how close it is to the ferry. So you get a mix of locals, tourists, and people killing time. Some people had to leave without even getting their order (!) Honestly I have no complaints besides pricing (see pic). We weren't in a rush so the wait didn't bother me. At least everything came out faster than the other coffee shop down the street. If you're catching the ferry or just visiting the area I'd recommend this to grab a coffee and sandwich on the run. Bottom: Excellent baked goods and satisfying sandwiches overlooking the ferry terminal. Looking for lunch my husband and I visited Pie in the Sky. We both had some hearty sandwiches (Pesto Grilled Cheese & BLT) with Cape Cod sea salt chips which hit the spot but the real winner was the special Cinnamon Roll Focaccia. It was truly one of the best desserts I've ever had and I eat lots of desserts! My husband and I enjoyed our sandwiches while sitting inside the cafe overlooking the bustling ferry terminal. On our next visit we once again ordered sandwiches but this time enjoyed them on the front patio. Unfortunately the special Focaccia wasn't offered so we munched on tasty, classic chocolate chip cookies instead. There isn't much seating inside but when the weather is nice the front patio offers decent seating and good people watching. For those who don't want to eat in, you can also get it to go by placing an order online or in the cafe. On both of our visits we just had water but I would have liked to tried some coffee. On our second visit they were roasting their own beans. Bags of coffee can also be ordered online. Stopped by during our bike ride on the shining sea bike path, had the most mind blowing chicken Caesar salad wrap I've ever had. This place offers something that I had never heard of - a breakfast sandwich served on a "pop over." This is a nice mom-and-dad breakfast place that was BUSTLING, and for good reason. Wood Hole is a small town but this seemed to have quite literally everyone waiting in line. Despite how busy it was, service was quick and friendly (all things considered). We had a 9:30 boarding pass for the ferry and so we figured we had more then enough time to grab some coffee and food. It was 9:05am when we placed our order. The inside is small and it was very busy. They had multiple employees taking orders so we didn't wait too long in line. Prices are reasonable - spent about $14 for small coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The patio area was very busy and all the tables were occupied. We had asked for our food to go so we stood and waited to be called. We waited about 30 minutes for our food to be ready. We saw several people leave without their orders to catch the ferry and some who were very upset that it was taking too long. One girl was complaining that she had just ordered 1 bagel and did not like that she had to wait that long for it. We ended up missing our ferry and had to board the next one - not a big deal for us. My breakfast sandwich was good, nothing special. It was very hot which is a plus for me because I dislike eating cold breakfast sandwiches. I ordered a pumpkin pie specifically on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I picked it up on Wednesday/Thanksgiving Eve. I paid 30+ dollars for it and paid the gentleman a $10 tip for making it happen because it was for my 86 year-old father and that's all he wanted. This place is marvelous! I come here twice a year when I'm traveling by ferry as it's near the Steamship Ferry. The treats are over sized and SO good! They don't have any vegan options, but it's worth it. It's set up like a small bakery with little room for seating, but have them outdoors. The staff is good at getting people in and out quickly. I really like the food here and I think they do an amazing job. With that being said, I was met with extreme attitude from Kristan at my recent visit. It was Saturday and I get it's busy and I expect that. I simply asked when do you think the sandwich will be ready so I could gauge how much time I needed to walk to the boat. She gave me the nastiest look and rolled her eyes. Then threw my bag toward me without so much as a glance. I still made sure to say Thank you! Always a huge fan of pie in the sky and thought it needed a review. I came here with my boyfriend yesterday for the first time in a while and was reminded why this place has a special place in my heart. One of my pottery students had raved about their popovers. I tend to go on the sweet side and usually opt for their cannolis or seven layer bars which are incredible. Yesterday I tried for the first time a popover with their tomato bisque and oh my god, it was amazing. We sat outside at a sunny table and enjoyed what felt like the first spring day.
