I came to Handies with my sister for dinner. We had a reservation, but even with one, we still had to wait about 15 minutes before being seated. The restaurant is also pretty small, so it can feel a little cramped when it's busy. We both ordered the 4-hand-roll set and added two additional rolls, but honestly, the 4-hand-roll set by itself was plenty of food. We also ordered the spicy chili oil on the side to dip each roll in, and that was delicious. It added a really nice kick and was probably my favorite part of the meal. I enjoyed pretty much every roll we tried except for the spicy tuna. The texture was not for me at all. It had a texture similar to canned tuna, which I found unenjoyable. Overall, it was a decent experience. The food was good, and I liked the variety of the hand rolls. I would probably come back, but I'd like to try it for lunch next time when hopefully it's a little less crowded. read more

Not my favorite sushi handroll spot. Unfortunately, all of my handrolls were loaded with crispy onions, which really took away from the sashimi. I'm also not a big fan of the perilla flavor in the rolls as well, but I can see it being something others enjoy. Service is a bit slow with the pacing. I had no idea until I looked at their affiliations they were associated with Himari and Kokoro!!! Such a quaint location located in the Spring Branch area. Parking was no issue as I came during work hours. I was seated after checking in so my assumption is that they do take walk-ins. The location is smaller so I can see why you would need a reservation as they do not have a waiting area. The ambiance was nice, the music was cool and a good vibe. I ordered the 3 set hand rolls: Masu Soicy Tuna and Hamachi An additional roll:crab and a crud order. Their prices are cool, the drink was only $9. I do wish that they would add a build your own roll set to get the discounted price. Otherwise, everything was good and I plan on coming back while I'm on Summer Break! Happy to have Handies in the SB neighborhood. This is off of Westview, near the Decoy. A decent size parking lot and there is also street parking nearby. Recommend to make resy in advance in case it gets busy during rush hour. Like other locations, they have a similar menu and decor. You can choose between the à la carte hand-rolls or just do the fixed set of 3/4/5. The crudo comes in 4 pieces so good if you're sharing. Same with the sashimi. My favorite sashimi was the chutoro and otoro as always. The hotate, maguro, and kanpachi were my faves for the crudo. Would also recommend the negitoro and spicy hotate hand-roll. Can't go wrong with any of the options. Service was friendly and quick. The bar seatings are good if you're in pair or group of 3 but not ideal for a big group since it would be hard to talk to everyone. Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

Bet your bottom dollar, I'm proud to say I'm a regular at this location as well as the OG location in the Heights! You get consistently good food and great service. I've never had any issues with service, and the staff are all quick to accommodate. I was especially excited that they opened a location closer to where I work and live. Heights and Montrose are a little more of a trek than I'd like, but I'm always willing to drive anywhere for delicious food! My all-time favorite is the spicy tuna roll and the hamachi sashimi. Until they built in Spring branch, I was more of an evening patron, but quickly realized this is also a great lunch spot! It's quick and the menu is straight forward. I was very excited to try this place, and this did not disappoint. I got a couple hand rolls and crudo and they were sooo good! Quality is good. One slight downside is that although the service is fast, I noticed some of the hand rolls weren't wrapped well (loose or either holes poked), and they unfortunately missed one of the hand rolls that we ordered but we were able to reorder. The restaurant is small and cozy. I loved the cute rubber duckies displayed throughout the restaurant. We ordered the three hand roll set, masutoro carpaccio, bluefin otoro sashimi, and spicy hotate hand roll. All of the hand rolls were very flavorful and well seasoned. I especially liked the hamachi and spicy tuna from the set. The ocean trout belly in the carpaccio was firm yet tender, and the overall dish was very refreshing and tart. The sashimi was like butter and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. At the end of our meal, we were surprised with two strawberry macarons. For drinks, we ordered the Kubota Junmai Daiginjo. It had a smooth, clean finish. They had a good selection of music, but it was a bit loud, which made it difficult to hear the staff. I also wish they had provided hand towels or wipes since we were eating with our hands. Overall, we had a delicious meal at Handies Douzo and loved the quick, friendly service. Long before everyone discovered it last year haha- y'all are all late It's our favorite hand roll spot in town. So happy they opened this location in Spring Branch that's not too far from our place. Love it for a casual girls night or date night spot! I do think Handies is a bit over priced. We end up spending so much here when we come. I've been a loyal Handies costumer for years now and frequent the Montrose location. I was ecstatic to find out that they were opening a location in Spring Branch since it's much closer to where I live. The location is also great surrounded by other restaurants in the area. There's even ample parking which I feel like is a concern for many people going out to eat in Houston. This location keeps true to the counter-only style seating. All of the servers and chefs were welcoming and efficient that it was already running like a well-oiled machine despite only being their soft opening. I ordered the three hand roll set (mosu, hamachi, and spicy tuna) but also ordered the kani and holy shiitake hand rolls. The quality of their hand rolls are great and they put just the right amount of rice so that I don't get full quickly. It's still my favorite spot to get hand rolls in Houston. I was super excited to try out the newly opened Handies location. I really appreciated that this one has its own parking lot, which makes things much more convenient. For food, I ordered the three Handroll set and two Crudos. You can never go wrong with the Masu, Hamachi, and Spicy Tuna Handrolls. They were all fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Between the Maguro and Masu Crudo, I would recommend the Maguro. The Masu had a slightly fishy taste, and the cut was thicker than expected, making it a bit chewy. The service was slower than at other locations, but that's understandable since it is a new spot. Still, it's something worth improving because we ended up waiting around ten minutes for each roll. It's still amazing and if you're near the area it's a great spot. But I still like the heights location best. Our family had dinner here last weekend with another family. Six of us total. The location is a bit off the beaten track, off any major streets. We had no problem finding parking within the restaurant's lot on a Saturday night. The restaurant seating is set up all at the sushi bar, a long row of ~20 chairs. The setting is cute and trendy, but it was a bit hard for us to hold conversations given the 6 of us were all in one row. The menu is mostly handrolls (which you can order a la carte or sets of 3, 4 or 5). The rolls themselves are pretty small, even by sushi handroll "standards." The food was generally good to very good. In some of the handrolls, they add a crunchy element that's also a bit sweet, which I could do without. I also would prefer for there to be a bit more protein/filling in each handroll, but that's probably personal preference. Overall, a good meal. I would go back as a couple or small family but for larger groups, the seating arrangement is a bit of a challenge. read more

I am always satisfied and still crave for more as soon as I leave. I usually go to the Heights location on White Oak but since this location opened up right down the street from me, I am in trouble! I will end up coming here at least once a week. This is the ONLY place that has gotten the spicy ponzu sauce right. I tried their chili crunch for the first time but it wasn't for me. It was a little on the sweet side. I usually get the 4 set or 5 set and at least 2 crudos. Their crudos are light and refreshing with little burst of freshness from rhe chili, cucumbers, and microgreens, depending on which crudo you get. You can't go wrong with any of them. Their seaweed for the handrolls are the perfect amount of crunch to chew. I may sound bias but I have tried many other places and they just can't compare. One of my handrolls had a $4 caviar add on option that I declined and they gave it to me on accident (didn't charge me, chef apologized and let me keep it). I ordered the maguro crudo and the onikoroshi shiboritate, as a picky drinker, this sake was really clean and refreshing, and I'm new to sake as well. I really loved the service, the servers behind the sushi bar are very accommodating and make sure that you have what you need. Also, the crudo was filled with flavor on every bite I actually asked for another order after finishing my first one. Nevertheless, the ambiance was great. It's definitely a small place so if you have more than one or 2 people definitely make a reservation. Inside the restaurant is really nice and the rubber ducks being placed everywhere is so cute! We love the board they have in the middle which constantly changes the message.
