Chicken K-Noodle
Cara S.

I was pleasantly surprised by our takeout meal from Hancook! We ordered the Beef Bulgogi, the Chicken K-Noodle, and the 8 piece wings. My husband and I LOVE Korean food and used frequent Fort Lee before we moved from Montclair, so we were dying to find a decent Korean place by our new house. I think this will be our new go-to. The meal came with the usual banchan, like kimchi, chamoyte, and pickled radish. The bulgogi was excellent and was served on top of some stir fried vegetables. We also really enjoyed the K-Noodle. Although we ordered takeout, the noodles were still a little chewy, and not soggy at all. The korean fried chicken was similarly very good, but I don't think it traveled as well as we hoped. It could have been a bit crispier, but that's proabably our fault for ordering it as takeout. We stuck it in the toaster oven for a little bit and it was good as new. Overall we will definitely be returning and trying some new items!

A real Mom-and-Pop restaurant. Has maybe half a dozen tables, parking right out front. LOUD music. Greeted warmly by hostess, served water and barley tea (yum). Chose Korean noodles with pork. Served two banchan. Noodles served hot, in a delicious sauce. Overall quite good, but THAT MUSIC IS LOUD. Take off half a star for the loud music.

My chicken bibimbab was good. The egg over easy was too cooked. The food was decent. My brother said his bulgulgi bibimbab was good. And my mom's galbitang soup was very good.she was able to finish it and wanted more.

Now essentially a fixture on 46 in Rockaway, Hancock has been consistently serving homestyle, prideful, soulful Korean food for more than three years. The tightknit front of house is happy to welcome you in and share seemingly unlimited portions of briny, appetite-whetting banchan, along with a huge menu of classics. They're happy to help tentative guests pick something that'll be unintimidating. The hypercasual dining room might be called perfunctory, but it reflects a desire to serve down-to-earth, yet satisfying dishes. Perfect for a weeknight where you don't have the energy to "go out on the town", or for takeout or meal delivery.

First thank you to the owner Miss Young for an amazing dinner and conversation. The food was absolutely fantastic! Small little cozy restaurant but it's all about the service and food. Highly recommended for authentic Korean food . God bless !

Came here on a Saturday night. Was in the mood for Korean food and found this place via Yelp and Google. There was a slight wait when I got there but the workers there were very accommodating and set a table for me and my friend until another table was open. The place has a mom and pop restaurant vibe to the place, small and cozy. Got the galbi prime beef rib ($31.95) to start which was solid. And for my main, I got the beef tofu soup ($16.95) which was okay. There was a small hiccup in with my order, they brought out chicken tofu soup instead of the beef tofu soup but they fixed my order. * parking on premise * good service

Super friendly service and authentic korean dishes - we had hot pot bibimbap which was really tasty and tofu soup. Really flavorful!

I tried the beef soondubu less spicy which came in a generous quart size - perfect comforting broth with rice to satisfy my cravings. The tofu was so soft and fresh and the beef was great, not too fatty nor chewy, was just surprised it didn't have any other ingredients at all like egg/onions/zucchini that I've had with other soondubu. Same goes for the plain clam soondubu that I ordered for my son, nothing but tofu and clams but the soup was tasty and my son really enjoyed it with the ramen noodles. For a picky eater, he devoured everything and drained the soup from his bowl in one sitting. My husband enjoyed the spicy pork bento. Our son devoured the fried dumplings that came with it. The banchan was basic but tasty - 3 small containers of kimchi, spicy cucumbers and sliced fish cake with carrots. Overall, enjoyable meal and would definitely return again next time we are in the area.

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant because I was craving Korean food and had heard…read moregood things about their lunch. We arrived shortly after opening and were among the first customers. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated, and the staff member who greeted us was friendly. We were given water and the regular menu, which did not include a lunch section, so we assumed lunch specials were no longer offered. After we ordered, however, several customers who arrived later were given tea and an additional menu that appeared to be a lunch menu. We also noticed that their banchan selection was different from what we received. I ordered bibimbap and paid an additional $12 to substitute the beef with galbi. The amount of galbi was quite small considering the extra charge. The food we received was tasty, and the service was friendly. It's possible that we arrived too early or that the person serving us was not handling the lunch service, so I don't want to make assumptions about why our experience differed from the customers who arrived later. However, the differences were noticeable and left us somewhat confused. Overall, the food was good, but the inconsistency in the menus, tea service, and banchan made the experience less satisfying than we had expected.

Story: we were heading home from Kalahari and everyone was hungry. I did not want to eat here but…read moreeveryone else in our group voted for sushi. The place did have good Google reviews overall but I chalked those up to being written mostly by rural bums (also coming from the nearby Kalahari resort) who just didn't know any better. Well, as soon as I walked in the boss was very clearly Korean. I was like heol, maybe I'm not gonna get duped (at least in regards to their Korean food.) And yes-- the Yukgaejang, sundabu, and bibimbap were on point; the japchae was a bit soggy but otherwise good. I was more pleasantly surprised by how fresh all the sashimi was (totally didn't expect it from a spot that was a bit far from the coast!) We were a largish party consisting of mostly kids. They were their usual hellion selves (utensil drumming, loud talking, etc.) and I was a bit worried that I'd get an earful from one of the servers. We got none of that! Just a brief warning when one of them climbed on a chair. I didn't get any "grrr kids" vibe from anyone here and I'm very grateful for that. Sorry about that again! In regards to pricing-- it was exactly what I'm used to but I was kinda hoping that a little stop along the highway was going to be cheaper than NYC's midtown. Pulling quality chefs and then ingredients to the middle of nowhere can't be too cheap though.

The waitstaff were very knowledgeable about the dishes and gave GREAT recommendations. So there is this whole blend of cuisines and diversity going on! Locals and tourists started to come in by 6pm on a weeknight! The food is solid in terms of rolls etc. (But it is not going to be exceptional.) For a town that should include more variety, this place works!! Just enjoy it! Support your local businesses!! The seafood pancake were decent.

I am not one to post bad reviews and if it is, it's not to bad mouth the place but pointing out…read morewhat can be improved. I commend the owner's attempt of introducing Korean BBQ to the area. If you check out my posts, we love Korean BBQ. Unfortunately, the meats were all under seasoned. The pork belly was really bland, I tired dipping into the sauces but even that couldn't enhance the taste. My son loves egg soufflé and if you see the picture, this does not compare to the egg soufflés we've been to. Unfortunately, even the kids had a literal bad taste in their mouth. The cooking area was small and the heat not strong enough that after cooking the first 6 half strips of thinly sliced pork belly, we had to wait 7 minutes for the next batch to cook. Yeah, the place does look very deserted but picks up after 7-7:30 pm. Reading other reviews, I'm glad that some people find the place great but for Korean style BBQ and meat flavor, they totally missed the mark. You can definitely improve a lot on this.

Honestly it was refreshing to get good service that felt real. So the beef Ttukbaegi bulgogi, I thoroughly enjoyed, a lot of beef and well flavored and not an overkill of veggies. But would loved some more mushrooms though. The sauce/stew itself was really good, I keep drink it and pouring over my rice. I found the rice okay, but definitely jasmine over hard boiled rice preferred. I liked side salad and wish I had more, it had a-bit of spiced edge and was better than the typical ginger dressing you get. The bubble tea was perfect, not overly sweet and generous on the size of it, but definitely would do better in another glass since straw could not reach the boba pops well enough. another note, always appreciate a place that gives you large glass to refill your water.
