The atmosphere here is an old garage restored to a bright and cheery space. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I ordered the Half Chicken Platter ($20). The chicken was perfectly cooked and I got it at spice level hot, which is level 3 of 5. The hot is definitely hot, but it doesn't burn. The chicken was very crispy and juicy. It was very tasty. While it's not the best I've ever had, it is definitely worth a visit. I got it with baked beans and B&B pickles. The beans were good, but nothing special. The pickles were very good. I also got the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($13) at spice level 1 aka sweet. It was very good and the sweetness was tasty. I wish it was a nice thick chicken filet, but it's actually a pair of tenders. They are tender and tasty, I just wish it was thicker. I got the drop biscuit with it and that was probably the best thing I had. Super flaky and melts in your mouth. The service was super friendly and very fast. Overall a solid 4 star review. Would I return? Yes, if I was already in the area. The only real downside was the parking. There is a lot next door, but the price is highway robbery. There are a few paid spots out front too, not sure if those prices are also robbery.
Hancock never misses with their food & drinks. Great food and fun drinks. Staff is always so kind and welcoming. My husband and I live in the neighborhood and it is easily our first choice for a quick, casual lunch. Atmosphere is great and the music choice is superior. Their outside area is also fun for couples, families, and anyone looking to grab a quick bite. Highly recommend!
I love Hancock for a quick bite for lunch, I can order at the counter and the staff will bring it out quickly! Their tenders and filets have a great crisp without too much breading. Careful on the spice level- things get hot quick! They have lots of space with lots of seating both inside, and on the patio. We opted for outside since it was such a nice day. Try this spot for your next work lunch break!
We had a good time checking out Hancock! This looks like a really fun hangout space during the warmer months--lots of outdoor seating, garage doors that open to the restaurant's interior, and lots of table games and yard games. Our favorite item we tried was the jalapeño cheddar cornbread, which was just the right balance of flavors. We'll have to come by and try some of the drinks sometime!
This place is incredibly aesthetic! Looks so good on the inside and out! The boozy slushies are so perfect in the summer along with their patio games and abundant seating outside. Love the chicken sandwiches here and the crinkly fries! The jalapeno cornbread is my favorite appetizer! Definitely check this place out! I frequently order takeout from here as well! Just soooo good! Yummy!
love Hancock! The service is always really quick and the food is yummy. Also am a big fan of the alcoholic slushie's and the outdoor seating/games in the summer. Great place for all ages
I started with a Bloody Mary, which came with a CHICKEN TENDER on top!!!! Honestly, you could serve me an empty glass with a chicken tender on top and I'd be thrilled (please don't though ). This bloody had lots of delicious seasoning, which led to great flavor, but also led to a last few gulps that were THICK with salt and seasoning. If you order this, stir CONSTANTLY (but it's worth it to do so!) Derek and I both ordered the fried chicken wraps. He got his the spiciest possible, and said it wasn't unbearable, but it was pretty much the hottest heat level you can get at a restaurant. (I got traditional because I'm a baby, and it was delicious ). The real star of the show, though, is the pimento mac and cheese. You may have seen it in my story, but this might have been the best mac and cheese I've ever had. I've since been told to try it without bread crumbs, and I'm definitely going to do this, but even with the crumbs, it was pretty bomb.
Hancock has such a fun setup -- the interior is super cool, and the outdoor space with games gives it a great hangout vibe. Definitely a fun place to meet friends or grab a drink outside. As for the food, it was pretty good but not amazing. I had the chicken tenders, which were juicy but not very flavorful on their own. The ranch and special sauce helped a lot and were both solid. The mashed potatoes and gravy were easily the best thing I had -- creamy, flavorful, and comforting. The biscuit was a little dry, but the honey butter was good. Overall, it's a nice place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, but the food didn't totally wow me. Definitely better to dine in than order delivery!
Take out review! As some others noted, the take out bag was a little bit greasy. Nothing that would create a mess. Starting with the appetizer, the jalapeño cornbread-it was good, but honestly, I would prefer without the jalapeño- the bites without tasted better. I do wish I had more corn as well. The entrées of the chicken tender with fries combo were both really good. My husband said the chicken was the most well cooked chicken he has ever had. He said it would fall off the bone (if it had one). The fries were also very well cooked and still crispy after it's journey to our house. You could definitely tell that they change their fryer oil consistently. The pimento mac & cheese was OK. I love pimento and I love cheese and I did not feel that it was cheesy enough. It was a little bit cold so maybe that impacted it. I'd be willing to try it again. The sauces were all pretty good. The ranch just tasted like hidden valley. The hot oil was good, but I didn't feel like oil was the best sauce for the tenders. The Hancock hot was really good. It tasted like a better version of buffalo sauce. The comeback sauce tasted like ranch with extra spices
Planned to order online and pick up but the wait time online said 45min. Decided to just drive in and order. Took exactely 5 min which was great. They have a pretty large outdoor seating area and enough indoor space for eating in but we took our food to go. Kept well and didn't get soggy. Got the jalapeno corn bread and a cocktail to go as well as our chicken meals. I gotta say, the chicken tenders slappppped. Loved the sweet style chicken.
Yum yum yum!!! You just can't go wrong with good fried chicken. Also, Hancock's jalapeño cheddar corn bread is incredible - I need to know how they got it so golden and perfectly crisp! The service was chill and friendly. Great lunch environment!

I needed some fried chicken in my life, so I decided on Hancock. The beautiful outside seating area was a plus, but I was disappointed to learn that ordering and paying require scanning a QR code. This means there's no traditional waitress service. The fried chicken wraps were good, but the pimento cheese wasn't warm, which was a letdown. Not sure if I'll be back. read more

First timer. Fabulous food out on the terrace. We ordered the fish dinner, chicken dinner, cornbread and Mac & cheese. Everything was amazing. I loved the seasoning on the fish and fries. I ordered the 'hot' spice and I really enjoyed everything. We'll be back, most certainly! Super service! Fun vibe! Highly recommended! Corn hole, ping pong, and other games available. We found ourselves in the neighborhood around lunch time, so we tried the traditional flavored chicken tenders with waffle fries as the side, and ordered the biscuit. The last time, we found the first level hot just a tad too spicy. The traditional would be perfect if just a little bit more of spices or black pepper was used in dipping flour/batter. I called and asked if you could order 1/2 the level of hot, and they explained that the heat/spiciness comes from the oil it is cooked in, so it wasn't possible. They recommended ordering a hotter/spicier dipping sauce next time. The actual chicken was just as great, as before, not dry and very tasty. But the real reason for another 5 star review is all about the biscuit. First, it is the most expensive biscuit I've ever had, $4 for one. It is also the largest biscuit I've ever had, can definitely be cut in half and shared. But it was the most lightest/fluffiest biscuit....aka the BEST biscuit I've ever had. WOW. There is some serious cooking going on at Hancock! I'm one who likes some heat so I decided to choose the "Hotter" option. This was perfect for me and I thought the balance of heat and taste was excellent. And while the chicken was fantastic, my favorite part of my meal was the sides. I had the Mac and cheese, baked beans, and corn bread. All 3 were exemplary but the beans and corn bread were head and shoulders above the Mac and cheese. The corn bread is paired with a house butter... Oh my was that good. The bread also had cheddar and jalapeno but it was not spicy. The baked beans were amazing. I thought this was actually the most impressive part of the whole dish. I'm not quite sure what it is, but there is something in the beans that just take it over the top. I highly recommend the baked beans. Because of covid all of the seating was outside, but the weather was great so there was no issue. As a tip: 1/2 bird is enough for two people. Next time I'm here I'm just going to split a half bird with my wife instead of getting one for myself. read more
I finally made my way to Hancock to enjoy an outdoor lunch on their patio. The staff was very friendly but we had to ask if we take any table or wait to be seated. It seems that all the signs are for third party delivery companies. We noticed a lot of guests awkwardly standing at the entrance wondering what to do. Similar to other places, they ask you to use your phone for their menu. The menu isn't large but my wife and I each ordered a chicken sandwich and we shared side orders of mac/cheese, mashed potatoes, waffle fries and coleslaw. The sandwiches were tasty but some of the sides were just average. We didn't love the coleslaw but the fries were great. The mac/cheese and potatoes weren't bad. I think it compares to authentic Nashville Hot Chicken pretty well. The chicken could have had a hotter temperature but the spice level was fine. The slice of cheese wasn't even melted when it came out, which is why I think it could be warmer. Overall, great design and outdoor patio and friendly staff. The food is what you expect and it hits the spot if you're craving fried chicken. read more

I've been here a few times and am always impressed. The staff is always super warm and welcoming and ready to help. They are attentive, but also don't mind giving you time to chat, enjoy the restaurant, and peruse the menu. Level 10 perfect attentiveness. The food is always very good as well. This has become my favorite place for Nashville Hot Chicken in Grand Rapids. I've tried the "hot" and "hotter" but haven't ventured all the way to the "hottest" yet. While I think that fried chicken is best served on the bone, I wish Hancock had an option for chicken tenders. Bone-in can be a bit messy, especially if you're dining with co-workers or someone you'd prefer not see you with sauce on your face. Oh well, small issue. The last time I was here, I had the hot chicken poutine and it was super tasty! I am no poutine expert, but I've had it enough to start to form a solid opinion. This poutine could have had more gravy added, but what it lacked in gravy, it made up for in the tangy zestiness of the perfectly seasoned chicken. If you're craving some great chicken, give this place a try. Also, in the warmer months, the outdoor seating area is incredible. read more

I just love what Hancock has done with this little building on the corner. The string lights and grass covered area where the umbrella covered tables are outside is just adorable. They've totally transformed that whole corner. The whole vibe is fun. There are corn hole boards and all. Dress is casual. We finally had a chance to try out the food today and it was delicious... tons of flavor! If you're not up for some hot food make sure you don't order the spicy chicken (or even the MILDLY spicy). It's all super hot and wonderful! I got the medium spicy and I can still feel it on my lips 4 hours later lol. The Mac and Cheese is like Heaven! My favorite part was the Carrot Cake. It's so fresh it melted in my mouth. read more

After reading the revue I decided I wanted to try one of Grand Rapids best chicken sandwiches. The chicken was fabulous. The cheese was cold, and not melted l, which I don't, personally, like. The lettuce was chopped which I also don't like. The sandwich is still delicious and very spicy. I recommend starting with the lowest heat and working your way up to avoid burning yourself. The restaurant doesn't contain a lot of decor and isn't much to look at on in the inside. It reminded me of an old 50s diner with no 50s decor. They are known for their largest list of sparkling wines which you would never know by walking in. They should consider putting in a display rack behind the bar to show it off. Just my opinion though. I'm very intrigued by their Sunday menu, and I'm really looking forward to going back on Sunday for their Korean style sandwich. The kimchi sounds delicious. My overall experience was great and i look forward to eating their delicious chicken again. I think I also want to eat those gravy fries. I hear good things. read more

Such a great place! Love the vibe and the area. Outdoor seating and music make your meal feel like a party, an occasion, a place where it is always carefree summer and the chicken is fresh from the kitchen! I ordered a hot chicken sandwich and it was flavorful with a bite (my lips were burning and I needed Hancock's delicious Ranch dressing to temper the heat). I am a person who likes heat, so if you don't, definitely order the traditional coating. If you like heat, they offer hot, hotter, and hottest. Our table was happy with hot. And everyone wanted to borrow my Carmex to soothe their ignited lips! My daughter had eaten here before and told me, "Their Ranch is good. You know what I mean." We are Ranch snobs, and she was spot on. People around us had the alcoholic slushes and seemed very happy with them. The iced tea was just as good! We also had the waffle fries and mashed potatoes and gravy--all delicious and perfectly shareable. My husband and daughter had the chicken tenders (hot) and both raved about their meals. You honestly can't lose here. We can't wait to come again. read more

I'm in disbelief how horrible this food and experience was. I had to wait 17 minutes for fresh chicken wich was fine because I like fresh food. I suggested that they cook my fish a few minutes before the chicken was done so everything would be hot. I got my meal (38 dollars) and tried my fries and they had to be made over an hour before ( its a slow Monday the place is EMPTY) and for 38 dollars they could've atleast had everything fresh along with the chicken. Ofcourse I was heated and returned the fries to a sarcastic rude supervisor only to find out later the fish was old too but at this point I didn't even trust to send more food back in fear of tampering. I get home and opened the box to this disgusting looking chicken read more
This is a pick up order review. Their patio is so cute I want to come back and eat here to get the amazing outdoor experience! I got the chicken sandwich and half chicken then a couple of biscuits.. The sandwich is one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had comparable to the fat shallot in downtown Chicago. The half chicken was dripping in great friend goodness I had to blink and it was gone I liked it so much The honey butter jelly and biscuits were a perfect side to counter act the amount of spice! We went on a weekday when it was not very busy. Our service was impeccable! She gave us the run down on their food and offered suggestions. We tried the tenders and a sandwich with fries along with the slushy flight and a beer. At 1st I thought the slushy flight wasn't going to be great since they came in small shot glasses HOWEVER they all were so delicious and you could truly taste the alcohol! I would 100% return just for a slushy but the food was also very good and filling! And it was so well priced which is rare these days. We will make this a stable for us when we want good chicken! read more
Hancock is the place to go for good tasting spicy chicken. If you're not a fan of spice, I'd recommend other places. I tried the 4 piece "hot" flavor ($10) which is the first level of spice. The waitress informed me that this was made with a Jalapeno base and is quite a jump from "no spice". This definitely hits the spot when you're looking for that slight burn! Any higher and I would've needed lots of ice cream but this was just right. The chicken itself was OK. The dark meat pieces were very juicy while the white meat peaces were a little too dry. Also ordered a side of mashed potatoes and chicken gravy along with waffle fries ($4 each). Fries were crispy and we'll seasoned but the mashed potatoes were a little bland. Very expensive sides for the amount you receive. Service and atmosphere were great. You are greeted immediately upon entering the premises (outdoor and indoor seating) and they were informative of all the options. Very attentive throughout the trip here. I'm always down for places that serve good fried chicken. Hancock exceeded my expectations. Not only did the Hot Chicken have a good flavor and crispy, it was actually spicy. I can't imagine how spicy the next two level would be. I enjoyed all the sides that we ordered, especially the Jalapeno Cheddar Corn Bread. Whenever I go to BBQ restaurants or other places that serve greens, I usually order greens just to get some veggies in me. When I tasted the greens at Hancock, I was surprised how good it was. Greens that I've had at other places tend to be bland and just okay. Hancock has a great atmosphere and I would definitely return. The staff, however, could use a bit more training. There were some individuals who were very pleasant but a couple were a bit rude. The restaurant is still new though so I'm sure this will improve. read more

This is the best fried chicken in Grand Rapids. The service is friendly, pricing is reasonable, menu items are well executed and imaginative, and the interior vibe is clean/modern/hip. Their deep fried biscuits are ridiculously good. Extra star for cooking the fries crispy upon request. read more

Hancock's takeout is excellent! Their online ordering through toast tab is easy. We picked up dinner the night before Thanksgiving and enjoyed it as always! They brought back their seitan vegan chicken sandwich, too-- which is SO delicious. Best waffle fries in town. read more

On Doordash's website for this restaurant it says "Most loved restaurants. This is one of our top-rated, most reliable restaurants." I would not agree with that statement at all. The Good: The Jalapeño Cheddar Corn Bread and sorghum butter was excellent or I'd have rated them 2 stars. The Bad: $14 for six small chicken tenders that weighed in at 5.4 ounces, and I've had much better tenders, even from national chains like Chick-fil-A. I paid $1.25 for some what turned out to lackluster ranch dressing. The tiny container wasn't even half full. This establishment is one of the places on Doordash where there's a note stating that any review you make is private and shared only with the restaurant. Evidently they have no confidence in their ability to consistently put out good food at a good price. read more

Hancock GUYS. I Heart GR favorite alert! There's no arguing that Hancock is one of the most popular spots in Grand Rapids. They have the MOST BEAUTIFUL patio with umbrellas for lots of shade, strung patio lights, and they are always playing the best music. They were voted best fried chicken by REVUE West Michigan and they have AMAZING sides you can add on. Seriously the best chicken sandwich we've ever had. (Chick-fil-A lovers....ya'll need to try this place!! ) Not to mention that they have the most incredible liquor slushees with flavors that could not be more PERFECT for summer. read more

Tried this place out due to some friends highly recommending it. The spicy chicken sandwich was juicy and perfectly cooked. I am not a huge fan of bread and butter pickles but they worked with the flavors of the chicken. I do love that they allow a choice on the spiciness of the chicken. Sometimes you just don't want that extra! We tried the grits, waffle fries, and the greens. In my opinion, the grits were good but needed some cheese or some other flavor to make it pop. These were just cooked grits and only grits. The greens were served in a large amount of liquid which kind of drowned out some flavors but I would say these along with the grits, were just your basics. The service here was amazing! We had a new lady and the day we went was her first solo day. She was sweet and respectful of our space and was able to answer any questions we had. There was no rush. You could sense she had our best interest at heart. I wanted to love this place more. I wanted to be blown away by the chicken sandwich and fixin's because of the reviews Hancock was getting. I was a little disappointed but, I can't give a bad review because for what they offer for the type of menu they have, it's still worth it! read more
Hancock has quite the cool atmosphere, especially when it's warm outside. They have outdoor seating and can open up the inside as well! We ordered take out food and it was just as good as if we were sitting down to eat it! Ordered right online and picked up from their outside window without contact, so safe and great packaging. We ordered the traditional sauce on both the chicken tender basket and the chicken sandwich, and it wasn't too spicy for either of us! The tender basket came with 5 chicken tenders soft on the inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside. It comes with 1 side, and the Mac n cheese is amazing! But.... I have to say.... the chicken sandwich was BY FAR the best thing we had!! Thick juicy and crunchy fried chicken breast topped with lettuce, mayo, cheese and their pickles made the sandwich perfect! Highly recommend eating here! Also, I heard they have very Spicy options for all you spicy lover out there! read more
