They then told us they would check the cameras and get back to us later in the day, as they suspected the driver may have taken the shrimp. WHAT. Overall, I like Hanco's. There are 3 in Brooklyn (7th Avenue, Montague Street and Smith Street) with my favorite being Smith Street, the newest and cleanest of them all. I like their teas, summer rolls and noodle dishes. I've been to the one in Park slope a couple times--in fact, just this evening. I ordered the Rice Vermicelli with Shredded Chicken (white meat) instead of the grilled chicken (dark meat) to go. I have a couple problems with this specific location: a distinct and unflattering odor as soon as you walk in, sloppy appearance/garbage in sight and long wait time. I'm glad I took my order to go. Obviously I've been here so many times I must love it so much. Yes I do love their food. They're awesome. I'm giving three stars for cleanliness and lack of ventilation. The bathroom is full of disgusting graffiti I'm wondering how the owners could tolerate such?? The tables and overall area are rickety and old. I mean can you please make the seating area pleasant? As for ventilation, it gets so smoky it's hard to breathe sometimes. When we get out, the smell of food clings to every pore of our skin and clothes. Yuck! This place is a last resort, for when there are literally no other restaurants and you're desperately craving Vietnamese food or a bubble tea. I had the grilled chicken vermicelli bowl. They give you a number and you have to pick up your food at the counter. You have to ask for water (served in a small paper cup) and bus your own tray, so why did I leave a tip? It's a red flag when an order comes out too quickly. I could tell that the food had been sitting around for a while: everything was dry, the chicken was full of gristle and cartilage (I was scared to bite into it), the lettuce was wilted, the meager cucumber slices were bitter. Perhaps if everything had been prepared fresh, it might have been a different story. This is no way to grow a fanbase. Service was disappointing, like the employees don't actually care about the customer at all. The table and seating area was also filthy, lots of bits of food, flies buzzing around. I love me some Hancos. When it's hot, I want a bubble tea... taro, with milk. And a Vietnamese sandwich. When it's cold out, all I want is their pho, with extra cilantro and lime. Those are my go-to's when I'm in the mood for Vietnamese food on the go. I've had other dishes and they're also good - their vermicelli is super tasty. There are a couple of locations in Brooklyn - this one in particular has a decent amount of seating and there are a couple of window seats if you're lucky enough to snag one of them. So yes, if you're looking for a quick, solid, on the go meal, I'd highly recommend Hancos... and this location in particular. Checked in for a quick lunch in Park Slope on a Tuesday afternoon. I noticed that many people stop in for their bubble teas and sandwiches, not so much for their pho noodles. They provide wifi at the counter where you make your payment so that's a plus for those who wish to stop in to get some work done while enjoying a meal. I ordered the classic bahn mi sandwich. They had the usual ingredients of meat, veggies, etc. Overall it was a pretty solid meal. A little pricey, especially compared to another restaurant I usually visit in Chinatown. I have been coming here since I was a kid at their first location on Bergen St. c. 2005 (which later relocated to Smith and Montague) which I think was the place that started the Vietnamese sandwich trend. Hanco's is probably my favorite place to eat in NYC, hands down and has always been a treat. The quality over the years has been consistently great! I have had their sandwiches, spring rolls, teas and a few times the vermicelli bowls. Of all the menu items, I really like the sandwiches. I have a friend who loves this place, but I just can't see it. On a whim I decided to get a watermelon juice on a hot day, but got something lukewarm and pulpy. Maybe the freezer was on the fritz? Ice seems like a bare minimum, if you're not going the route of pre-cooling your drinks... Their food is the main attraction, but don't expect decent service. They're not entirely authentic in terms of Vietnamese but that doesn't mean it's not a fantastic sandwich! I got a small Thai bubble tea and classic sandwich. Lots of bubbles for a small tea, maybe too many. Good texture though. The sandwich is great, though my only complaint is that the insides are stacked like a taco. On sandwiches the ingredients lay on top of each other on top of the bottom part of the bread. Here the meat is closest to the crease, the veggies are on the outside so some bites are only meat, some bites are only veggie. My family is from Vietnam and I remembered when I was a kid, in the 80's, my mom made me a sandwich to bring on a school trip. My sandwich consisted of pickled carrots and daikon radish with cilantro and pork. As I was eating my sandwich, one of the kids made fun of me and said, what kind of sandwich would have carrots in it and who in their right mind would use carrots instead of lettuce and tomatoes. They told me it was a poor man sandwich and I was embarrassed. Thank god, things have definitely changed. Vietnamese sandwiches are now the rave and I'm proud to say that Hanco's makes a pretty darn good sandwich. I highly recommend their grill pork sandwich ($6.50) because the pork is always warm and tender and the bread is toasted to perfection, especially if you drench it with plenty of sriracha hot sauce to enhance the taste of their pickled vegies. If you pair your meal with a small but very strong tasting Vietnamese ice coffee ($3.50) without tapioca it will surely turn into the perfect meal. read more

DELICIOUS!!! After a huge all day walk in the botanical garden we arrived starving and very thirsty. I was wondering if they could possibly live up to the hype of my family. They did and more! I was going on and on about having shrimp (I'm on a kick) but decided to try the vegetarian pork. I couldn't have been more thrilled with a sandwich. Crispy pickled vegetables and bread that is perfectly crispy and chewy. I went with medium spicy and it had a good level of heat. I'm intrigued with the vegan pork and it doesn't taste at all like artificial meat but rather a chewy spicy tofu. I loved it and now plan to try and make it. The coconut milk tea was fabulous. Perfectly refreshing and delightful with the sandwich. Highly recommend for a lovely vegetarian lunch. I can see why they get long lines! read more

I've been meaning to come here for ages after hearing great things about the summer rolls and finally got the chance to. The summer rolls were absolutely delicious, some of the best I've had! There was tons of shrimp and some in every bite of the roll. It was soft and very tasty. If you come here, I highly recommend starting out with the summer rolls! I also got the spicy banh mi. I have to say this is the only banh mi I've ever had that I would legitimately consider spicy, as a lover of spicy food and someone who always orders her banh mi this way. It wasn't as big and as stuffed with meat as in some places, and had more of the ground meat than anything else, but it was nonetheless delicious and basically just left more room to eat the summer rolls. The atmosphere is very casual as one would expect from a sit down Vietnamese place. My only complaint is that even on a cold day, they keep all the fans on and the place gets freezing. I have been going to Hanco's in Montague st. since 2014 , my sister a little longer since she attended city tech. We moved somewhere else so could not go as often. Yesterday we were in the area and decided to sop by for old time sake. Well the girl at the register was really standoffish and would respond tonall inquiries like we are stupid. I tried my best to let it go, but when her whole demeanor changed as soon as WHITE cistomers stepped in I was really pissed off. I could not confront her because we had children with us, but this difference of treatment is highly unfair considering that we are all PAYING customers. I will call to speak to the manager because there is no reason we still get treated like sh** in this day and age in NY of all places, just because we are BLACK. They still get 2 stars because their pho is good, and their Bánh mì is one of the best in my opinion. read more

Great place to grab their delicious and reasonably priced bahnmi or pho. It even tastes great after delivery (at least within the neighborhood). Lunch times get very busy so expect a wait. It's a shame that you can't eat inside anymore due to C-19, but it's a great casual, grab and go, authentic hole in wall. (There's another higher end Vietnamese restaurant sort of across the stress, and it's a different experience. Hanco's is more casual, less expensive, and grab and go!) read more

Good! Came here with my friend for lunch the other day and they were so busy for a weekday. I tried their rice vermicelli bowl with pork! Overall good. They give you a good amount of pork! The only thing is, I wish the noodles were the slightly thicker ones that I've had at other restaurants and I wish they were cooked a little longer or more moist? They were a littler hard, but once the noodles soaked up the sauce they tasted fine. Need to go back and try their banh mi. read more

These staff do not value their customers. Their food is good. The boba is just okay. But they have no right to treat customers who are just quiet and kind with some fake superiority or aloofness. If I lived in the area, this would be one of my guilty pleasures!! Their menu is comprehensive of everything you'd ever want from a Vietnamese restaurant. I had such a hard time deciding whether to go with the vermicelli bowl, the pho, or the banh mi! Everything sounded so good. I finally went with the classic banh mi, and although I didn't regret it, I do wish I had a big enough appetite to try other items though! Unfortunately, all of my friends also ordered banh mis. My iced vietnamese coffee and a Classic banh mi together cost me a $10 and change. Pretty reasonable for what turned out to be a very filling meal. The bahn mi was toasted perfectly - just enough to add a bit of a crunch, but not enough to leave my gums cut and bleeding. For what the Classic consisted of (pork floss, Vietnamese ham, etc), it was good, however thinking back, I really should have gone with the grilled pork. It just seems much less processes than what came in the Classic. The veggies were all super fresh, and they don't skimp on any of the fillings! The Vietnamese iced coffee was great as well - not as sweet as I thought it would be - but definitely kept me well caffeinated throughout the afternoon. They have a pretty good system worked out for orders, although it seems quite rudimentary. Be sure to keep an ear out for your number so you can pick up your order at the counter. It does get pretty packed around the ordering area because pick up/ordering takes place in the same small section of the counter. Also, seating is first come first serve, so while you are waiting for your food, you should keep your eyes peeled for a table that is wrapping up their meal! Finally, they do offer free wifi with the password posted on the counter. I don't know how many people really take advantage of this though, since most of the patrons we saw were there for a quick meal and not to study/do work. One star (or even just half star) off because although they do have an A health rating, everything appeared a little grimey on the inside. The waste disposal station and the tray return station was overflowing with uneaten food. Also, the bathroom I used didn't look particularly clean and was out of paper towel (it also was missing a lock on the door). I'm not sure if this would be a place I would want to hang out at all day, but I would definitely order off their menu for delivery if I lived in the area! read more

I used to love this place, but yesterday I received their grilled pork pho complete with a set of rotting veggies. The lime was brown and had mold growing on it. The basil / cilantro was brown, black and slimy and clearly bad in most spots, and I had a few bites before I noticed it tasted odd, saw the issue and tossed everything.
