We really enjoyed our first meal at Hanami. we were greeted by a friendly server and she brought us menus and chopsticks. We ordered seafood ramen, katsu ramen and a veggie roll. my fiance enjoyed his first time having abalone! We really liked how they prepared the squid as well. My katsu was lightly fried and perfectly crunchy. The veggie roll was fresh and delicious. The ambiance was our favorite part! So many pretty things to look at! And we really enjoyed the music as well. thank you for the yummy meal!
Hanami immediately caught my attention because they do traditional Japanese bentos. Think jewel box-style presentation, the kind you might remember if you've traveled in Japan. I went with their poke bowl, which was surprisingly affordable, and loved the option to serve over soba noodles instead of rice. Such a fun switch. The protein was hokkigai (Arctic surf clam), which you don't see everywhere, and it was fresh, clean-tasting, and nicely balanced with the rest of the bowl. Overall, Hanami feels like a quiet gem. If you're into traditional Japanese flavors, careful presentation, and a menu that does something a little different without being fussy, this place is absolutely worth checking out.
Ramen was A1 here Small, cute cozy spot in San Leandro! Street parking only, but wasn't too hard to find. Ramen was packed with ingredients and lots of flavor, especially garlic. Pork was meaty and plentiful!
Our friends wanted to come here so we did. Luckily, I got a parking space right in front again! We walked in and were greeted. There were three other guests sitting at two separate tables. We were directed to the six-top at the back of the restaurant. Glasses of water, a carafe of water and menus were presented. A tray containing napkins and individual set-ups was also put down. The set-ups were probably convenient for the restaurant but also created unnecessary waste as each set was plastic wrapped with a small napkin, wood chopsticks, plastic spork, and paper wrapped toothpick. Service was adequate but lacked personality as if the server was simply not engaged in her tasks. Five guests at our table, five entrees ordered and served one at a time. Seems simple enough, yet when the last entree was delivered, instead of putting it in front of me (the only person without food), she still announced what it was to see where it went. We ordered: Crispy Fried Oysters - 5 - This plate of 5 Oysters and a ramekin of Tartar Sauce was placed on the table as our appetizer. While we each had our set-up with chopsticks and spork, none of us had a plate to eat off of. Salmon Sashimi Teishoku - 3 - The Miso Soup was excellent. Served hot with plenty of tofu and flavor. The Salmon Sashimi consisted of decent sized pieces of fish that were good. The Gyoza were okay but I've always preferred panfried and steamed over deep fried. The Wakame Salad tasted like most Wakame Salads, nothing special. The Mashed Potato was more like a Smashed Potato, chunky, not creamy. The Rice Ball, while tasty was rice that had been smashed into a mold. The Tamago was non-existent. Finally, the Crab Salad was not Crab Salad but Krab Salad. The fresh mango on top was a nice touch, but Krab is made from Surimi (a highly process fish paste), not Crab. Combo F - 2 - Without having looked at our review from last year, my wife ordered exactly the same dish that she ordered last time. She also enjoyed the Miso Soup. The Unagi Roll was okay but not generous with Unagi. There also did not appear to be any Unagi Sauce. Her Salmon was the same as mine. The Shrimp Tempura were crunchy but did not come with a dipping sauce. The Croquettes were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Tonkatsu Sauce would have been nice. The Edamame was fine. Our friends seemed to have enjoyed their dishes, but I did not ask them to rate their food.
TLDR: great menu with LOTS to offer. The food is delicious, just be patient with service as they don't have enough staff on hand. We had a party of 9 arrived just before 6pm but with only 6 four tops and 4 two tops, we had to wait a bit before they would give us 2 four tops together. Luckily, the family sitting at one of the four tops were finishing up their dinner. The waitstaff was obvious trying to do too much waiting on all the tables as well as managing the order pick ups. She forgot to give us water as well as chopsticks/napkins. My son ended up walking up to the cabinet to help fetch the missing chopsticks. When the food arrived, it was heavenly. Everything was delicious and perfectly made. The chef almost timed it so everyone was served at the same time.
This place is cozy, fresh, and really comforting. They offer unique teishoku set meals and combos that you generally won't find at other Japanese restaurants, which makes this place much more casual and homey. The employees are always very kind and accommodating, and the price is very fair for what you get. If you're a lover of sashimi, this is a good place to go to get your sashimi itch scratched. Parking is a bit challenging as there's no designated lot, but there's usually plenty of residential parking you can find in the surrounding blocks. I've only gotten the poke here (it's such bang for your buck!) but I'll definitely have to come back to try the ramen.
Our absolutely favorite healthy local restaurant in the neighborhood. We enjoy customizing our lunch with the multitude of options to make your bowl your very own. Here's our latest creations that are colorful, delicious and appealing. Enjoy, we look forward to next adventures in the culinary journey. Service was very attentive. Ambiance is Asian themed.
This restaurant is super cute with adorable decor. My friend ordered the 6pc salmon sashimi teishoku and I ordered the Tonkatsu ramen with pork flavor. The plating of the teishoku was appealing. The salmon was very buttery and everything in the box was tasty. The tonkatsu ramen had great flavoring and the noodle had a nice texture. I recommend this cute little shop if you're looking for good vibe and comforting food.
First timer here after looking for a local random spot to have lunch. Popped up with great reviews and it did not disappoint. Cozy with such a cute vibe, even with one worker, she got to us quick and efficiently. Great service and food came out fairly quick. We got here and most tables were full but we were able to snag one of the small side tables to grab a bite. Wish it was a bit wider because I got the soba which came in a big tray it barely fit the table with all the extra stuff we got but would def stop by again:)
The tonkatsu ramen here is top tier. Comfy, cozy, and just enough seating. It's one of the hidden gems in the city. Service is good, the food is quality, I'd definitely be back on a rainy day.
In a nutshell; such a cozy place to dine in , with good Japanese food. Parking is a bit tough since there really isn't a dedicated parking spot but once you're pass that, this place gives you a really cozy atmosphere as you are sat. The server's very well mannered and accommodating. The menu has a good variety of choices and wasn't too long on the wait either. The food is great and prepared really well and presented nicely. Overall very pleasant experience and a place you should try if you dont mind kind of walking a bit off where you park if you can't find a parking nearby.
Black garlic tonkotsu ramen was delicious. Seems to be right on and been having this every single time we're at Hanami. The rich broth, and the springy ramen noodles. And the tonkotsu was flavorful, tender and just the right balance of meat to fat portion. Tonkatsu was alright, though some pieces were dry and didn't seem to be consistent to the rest of the portion served. Causes me to wonder if some pieces came from another tonkatsu. The miso soup that came with it tasted very watered down and so it wasn't appetizing, and even my kids rejected it. Chicken karaage was by far the greatest let down, not only was the chicken tasteless which should t be the case with true chicken karaage, but seems to be pieces of meat form together with some dough in between giving it a weird texture. It was very off-putting.
I had heard about this place awhile ago but this is not an area I frequent. The shop is a tiny mom and pop shop, seems like it is run by the family. There are lots of seating available and the food came pretty fast - it was not busy. I am not sure how they would do with a large group or if it is full. As mentioned since this is family type restaurant, the food is average. It does not mean it is not good, but do not expect Michelin or fancy Japanese food. The price is excellent for what they provide and the portion. Good place to come if you want family dinner. I saw quite a bit of take outs coming through when I was there.

I'm half Japanese and love me Japanese food. Grew up on the stuff and been to the homeland several times. Hana I ranks right up with the best Japanese food I've ever had. We went on a Sunday around 7:30pm. Located in a mostly residential neighborhood, we found easy parking right in front. Only 1 other couple eating, so we had our choice of tables. Bright and airy inside with some really nice Japanese decorations. Their menu is great. In addition to the Japanese staples (sushi, tempura, teriyaki) they also have poke. Ordered 2 poke bowl, a chicken teriyaki bento and a chicken Katsu bento. The poke was served in a huge bowl. The bentos came a musubi, seaweed salad, crab salad, miso soup. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted great. Service was excellent, menu and food fantastic, prices are reasonable. Highly recommend. read more

I've only tried the bento boxes, but sadly they discontinued it to replace it with these smaller sets. I've doordashed from them a few times, and food was always prepared quickly. So far I've tried the teriyaki beef and chicken and the meat is cooked properly! Wish the chicken was grilled instead of pan fried(?). I can taste the oil that it was fried in, which can overpower the teriyaki sauce. Salmon slices are thick! When you stack em together you can see that they give a good amount for the set and don't skimp out. The sides are okay...imitation crab salad is whatever, seaweed salad and the gyoza are good. My gf likes the potato salad. Dine in service, got seated quickly but waitress didn't bring us menus so we had to grab it ourselves after waiting 5 minutes. read more
Love the concept and menu of this place, honestly surprised I haven't been more. This is in the place that Noodles Pho Me used to be, and while I loved that place, I am more than happy with its replacement. I would come 2x a month if I still lived down the street. read more

As you walk into their restaurant it feels like you took a portal to Japan because everything is so cute and kawaii. The staff was super friendly and attentive! I had their Teishoku Mix Sashimi box and it was super fresh. Probably one of the best sashimi spots in the East Bay. You get a bang for your buck with the sides that come with it, as well. We ordered their hot sake and didn't realize it was BOGO! Everything was fresh and comforting. I would definitely go back again. read more

A Solid 3.5!!!! Hanami is located in the now Defunct Noodles Pho Me Location !!!! It is Sparsely decorated and Brightly lit. I rolled in and was Greeted and Seated!!! I was presented a Menu and a Glass of Water. I perused the Menu and ordered a Bento Box with Grilled Salmon and Teriyaki Steak. I also ordered Takoyaki Balls for an Appetizer !!! Service is Friendly and Efficient!!!! I was brought a Miso Soup first . It was tasty. My Bento and Takoyaki Balls came out 15 minutes later. The Steak and Salmon were Delicious and Cooked just right. Portions are on the Small side. Bigger portions would be better. Other than portion size. This is a Baller On a Budget Approved Establishment!!!! Good Luck and Welcome to San Leandro!!!! read more
Hanami opened in the space that was Noodle Pho Me. Hanami means "flower viewing"/cherry blossom watching. unknown relation to food served. unrelated mix of curio decor: geometric lights on ceiling, cute figurines on shelves. menu imitating bamboo leaves, Scandinavian table sets, food/ ? pics on wall. interesting...overall meaning illusive offerings: poke, ramen, udon, tempera, sushi rolls, bento boxes, (sushi) burritos, sides: an eclectic mix, some items not traditionally Japanese...think fusion. eats: bento box (2 items, 14.99) + item (4.99) -miso soup: interesting taste with a robust sprinkling of green onions, tofu bits and seaweed. .. usual sodium aftertaste. -mixed tempera: 2 pieces bland shrimp with carrot, broccoli, cucumber. mushroom veggie. dipping sauce vinegary. -pork kotsu: dry grilled sliced pork cutlets with soy sauce infused dipping sauce -chicken karaage: bland dried chicken meat with thick breading. bland orange sauce. -small dish of corn, beans, tomato veggie. ok.. 3.5 stars. great value. dress warmly, it's cold inside. front door left open... *decor was more impressive than the food...service was great... read more
We kinda missed the old Pho 4 Me at this location even if we thought their prices were a bit too high. So when we saw Hanami opened up, we knew we had to give it a try. Stopped by late on a weekday for lunch. Easy parking on the street right in front, and the place was almost empty so lots of seating. Surprisingly lovely decor too -- a truly Japanese feel. All Japanese fare -- choose your poke mix, ramen/udon bowls, and some standard sushi. We decided to have a poke and a ramen since that seemed more their specialty. Wow the bowls were very large, so well plated and tasted great! Quite a nice surprise. We were so full and so satisfied afterwards. This is such great value and a welcome addition to SL. I'm already planning my next come back in a couple of days! read more

This restaurant only opened a couple of weeks ago, so my wife & I tried it out for Friday dinner. There is no parking lot available, but we were able to find street parking without any issues. We walked in and were able to find a seat easily. A waiter brought us menus and glasses of water right away. My wife decided on a large poke bowl, while I got a 2-item bento box. We also ordered a Hamachi Kama to share, along with 2 glasses of hot tea. After about 20 minutes (the waiter warned us that the Hamachi Kama would take longer to cook than the other dishes), he came back with all of our food. First, the Hamachi Kama was a good size, with 2 slices of lemon and a small dish of dipping sauce. The meat was tender and flaky, just as it should be. (Pro tip: if you enjoy cooked fish, this is a must have whenever you see it on the menu.) My bento box came with teriyaki beef and mixed tempura (my choices), along with steamed white rice, a small salad and a bowl of miso soup. The beef portion was fairly generous, with thicker slices than I was anticipating. The meat tasted very flavorful, and I appreciated that the chef did not drown it in teriyaki sauce. The mixed tempura had 2 large shrimp along with an assortment of vegetables. I wish the tempura dipping sauce was served in a deeper bowl rather than in a shallow saucer, as it made dipping a little harder than necessary. My wife was impressed by the size of her large poke bowl, which came with 3 scoops of protein (vs 2 scoops in the regular-sized portion). Along with her choices of scallop, crab and tuna, there was a separate scoop of egg yolk, along with the other fixings. It was so large, she took half of the bowl home for lunch the next day (and was given a really cute to-go bag with it). After the meal was over, the waiter handed us our bill, showing us a 10% discount as an opening special. And when I paid, he gave me a coupon for 20% off our next meal as a thank you. These were very nice gestures, which we will use very soon. Next time, we will order the ramen and udon. read more

I was pretty bummed that Noodles Pho Me left this location, but after visiting its replacement here, my boyfriend and I left pleasantly surprised. When you walk in, you notice the restaurant is pretty minimalistic with nice tables and seating - everything looks very clean in comparison to what it once was. The remodeling is minimal, but it does look slightly modern, and cute. The host/server put down some very nicely printed menus and asked if we'd like hot tea or water. Not exactly sure what the tea was, but it wasn't green. The menus were very high quality. For the poke bowls, they gave you the hard menu that could be written on with dry erase marker to customize your order. And the portions for this was huuugeee! Super worth it, stacked with the ingredients, and good tasting. I don't like scallops at all because of the fishy taste, but their scallops were soft, tiny, and didn't taste like anything. Something unique was the Clam Chowder Croquettes... I'm not a huge fan of clams, but I can tolerate it in clam chowder. This was basically clam chowder mixed with the mashed potato and deep fried. It was very creamy. For clam chowder lovers, I'd say this is probably a must-try item. I ordered the special pork broth tonkotsu ramen which was very flavorful. All of the "special broth" options just mean that it contains a healthy amount of garlic in the broth, sooo.. if you plan on kissing anyone after, be forewarned, lol. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the broth was flavorful, the pork belly were thick and meaty, but also pretty fatty. The noodles were ok, but nothing to boast about. The overall experience was nice and I hope they do well with running their business. They opened on Feb. 22nd a couple weeks ago, so they're currently running a 10% off promotion maybe through the end of the month? Not sure till when for sure, but now would be the time to check them out! Enjoy! read more
Hanami took over what used to be Noodles Pho Me. I'm a little sad that Noodles Pho Me closed down, but happy to see another Asian spot took over. The interior looks a lot cleaner and more spaced out than what it was before. I like the simple clean design. It really gives of a Japanese Cafe vibe to me. Their menus is unexpectedly nice. The poke menu is basically a white board you can use a dry erase marker to customize your poke. The regular menu is very thick. It's a durable menu lol Because I love noodles, I decided to try their seafood ramen with a side of clam chowder croquette. Yes, clam chowder. It was very unique and actually tasted pretty good. It's a normal croquette with a creamery filling and some clams. Quick reference for the ramen ordering. You pick the protein first: tonkotsu (pork belly), chicken, beef, seafood, salmon, veggie, or lobster. Then you decide what broth to put in it: miso, shoyu, pork, or Hanami Special miso, shoyu, or pork. What makes the broth "special" is that they add more garlic into the broth. My seafood ramen in Hanami Special Miso tasted decent. I like the broth, it's very rich. The ramen noodles were good, what I didn't like was the shrimp. The shrimp still had the shrimp heads and exoskeleton. It's more effort and harder to eat than a regular peeled shrimp. Other than that, I enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to try the pork belly ramen next time have another order of the clam chowder croquette. The croquette was definite the highlight for me because of its uniqueness. read more

The food here was absolutely delicious. The soft shell crab was so tasty and was not Over battered which usually happens with soft shell crab. You could still really taste the crab. If you look on my page, my partner and I LOVE ramen. This place was really close to my house and I'm so happy i found it. The black garlic tonkotsu was absolutely delicious. The only thing about this place is the egg is super regular like it's just a regular hard boiled egg with no extra flavor. The service was awesome too! The young women who helped us was really nice. The ambiance is regular, it gives hole in the wall. Like you know the foods gonna be fire. read more

No 3.5 option, so give 4 for the great atmosphere and the side dishes. This is a cute little Japanese restaurant. The chowder croquettes were delicious. Crispy outside and has creamy clam chowder inside. Definitely will order it next time. I really like their side dishes. Good small portions for each one. Cute, special and tasty. Nothing special on the main dishes (little bit better than average). The foods overall were light and decent. read more
Glad we stumbled upon this place! Such cute interior! The portion sizes were very generous for a good price. Chowder croquettes were yummy with actual pieces of clam in them. Garlic ramen was good as well, I liked it more than the poke bowl. Our server was really attentive and very nice. Overall great experience I'd come back here when I'm in the area. read more

This is definitely a hole in the wall looking place. The outside is very unassuming. But the inside is the definition of cute. I went Wednesday night and got seated right away. There was a good amount of people in the small place for a weeknight. The ramen here is fantastic, which is surprising because they also serve poke. And places that do both usually only excel either or, not both. But I saw a lot of to-go orders of poke, so they're doing well. I got the tonkatsu with the spicy garlic miso soup and the pork was thicc and fatty perfection. Whole egg is included as well. They don't skimp here. The bowl is pretty big. For the price, I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

What a lovely little gem! We were looking for a place to have an early dinner before heading to the zoo and Hanami was the perfect place. Everything about it took me back to Japan. The ambiance, the tableware, the service and food was so reminiscent of restaurants in Japan. We wanted to order everything. Their teishoku sets were amazing and a great way to have a little bit of everything. We also had the tonkatsu udon and bento. The agedashi tofu was the best I've had by far. So Crispy and airy on the outside and silky on the inside. There's only 1 server on a Friday night but she was efficient and friendly. Be patient as they cook the food. Honestly we waited almost 30 mins for our dinner to come out but it was well worth the wait. Highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for authentic Japanese. read more

I love the design of the restaurant. The seating is comfy and the lighting isn't harsh on the eyes. The utensils and bowls were adorable, I wanted to take them home. Service was great as well, she was quick to pick up our orders, refilled our tea, and was kind. As for the food, the ramen was tasty! Ordered a pork katsu ramen with miso broth. Even my picky little brother liked it . The chicken karage was great as well, definitely up on my top favorite chicken karage picks. The only thing that wasn't so good was the sashimi. The slices were big but didn't taste or look as fresh. It could've been because they put slices of lime and lemon in between, but my point still stands. Overall, I wished they opened down in San Jose since it's about an hour drive (for me) to get here. But I'll definitely come back to try their other appetizers! read more
