Great atmosphere! I liked the way it was decorated and very clean. I was excited to try this place as it had a variety of food on the menu! So I can have Poke while my fiancè can get the ramen! The poke serving was very large with generous amount of fresh fish! They even serve the utensils in a cute box. We really liked the shoyu broth. Fantastic hole in the wall. Decor is beautiful, the service was excellent - however our party was the only one present at that time. Their menu is a bit confusing as their rolls are called burritos on some pages. I had the teriyaki chicken + salmon, the salad was very fresh and different to other sushi bar salads. We ordered a variety of food because we were starving. The portion sizes were generous. The sushi rice was too wet and moist-- all mushed together. The fried tempura breading was thick. We had a superb dinner at Hanami on a Saturday night. Showed up early to a partially filled restaurant and were immediately greeted and seated. We were allowed ample time to order drinks and browse the menu. We settled on the "Combo A" and "Mixed Sashimi Set". Prices were excellent considering the serving sizes and our waitress was excellent. So was the food. As locals, we'll definitely be checking out the Poke Bowl lunch offerings! I want to give this restaurant a 1.5 stars. Hanami is a Chinese-run establishment masquerading as a Japanese restaurant like so many other restaurants in the area. I have no problem with who is running the joint as long as the food is half-way decent and authentic but unfortunately, this was not the case for Hanami. I should have heeded the red flag of "Hanamie burritos" being on the menu that this place would disappoint. I honestly never had an agedashi tofu that I didn't like but the one here was, by far, the worst I have ever tasted. I don't even think it was agedashi tofu. The chef doesn't even know what agedashi tofu is supposed to taste like. The tofu was hard and slightly sour and the outside didn't have the fluffy/gelatinous texture expected in this dish. There was no broth and it was instead sitting in a slightly thick sauce. It was bad. My wife's "Chicken Karaage" was some breaded chicken that looked exactly like pork katsu. We were so confused that we had to ask the waitress if they had messed up the order. Apparently the cook doesn't know what karaage is supposed to look like and taste like either. The bento had one redeeming quality: the teriyaki beef was alright and tender. The california rolls were oversized (NOT a good thing) and the sushi rice used to make them was too soggy. I picked CA rolls as it is usually a safe pick and no one can screw them up, right? Wrong. Bottom line: unless you have never had Japanese food before at an authentic place, do not go here The restaurant itself is not so clean at the entrance but ok at the tables. The plates they brought out for the tofu were not clean at all and I had to scrub them down with my napkin. Overall, the ambiance is suitable for a quick lunch break but nothing more. read more

I'm aware it's located where Noodles Pho Me originally was (RIP I miss you NPM) and parking actually isn't terrible from what I remember. I usually just park on one of the side streets and walk over. Anyway, I ordered the Regular Fresh Poke (white rice, salmon, spicy crab, corn, green onion, spicy mayo, Hawaiian sauce, and seaweed) and California Roll. I really liked the poke, the spicy crab and mayo were the perfect amount of spice for me. The only negative thing I have to say about the poke is that the seaweed had a sake/alcoholic taste to it that I wasn't fond of. Other than that, a 9.5/10! Time of day: ordered for pickup at 20:30 on a Wednesday night. Matcha cheesecake was not available so I got the mango substitute-- not bad. Store: Went into the small restaurant and the dining room was kind of full. The cashier was really nice and polite. Looks clean. Parked near the bakery because there was no spot available in front or near the store. Food: ordered salmon ramen, miso soup, karage chicken (omg, the best!!!), cheesecake, calamari (squid was overcooked so it was tough). All tasted good! Having been a fan of Noodles Pho Me I was glad to hear a new place opened up to satisfy my soup fix. The staff were wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The seating area was bright and clean. The poke bowl here was great, along with the combos that my friends got! We felt like it was worth what we paid for, which isn't always the case when it comes to Japanese cuisine. Although it's not very large, the store is charming and homey with cute decorations all around. This place serves simple Japanese food from ramen to bento and poke. It's clean and spacious with really cute bowls and cutleries. I came here on a Friday night and there wasn't too many people. There was only one server so it's understandable that service took some time. We tried the bento and the poke. The bento was just alright. The rice was very mushy, probably it was cooked with too much water or overcooked. The tempera has a nice crispy batter that's not too thick. It included 2 shrimps, egg plant, carrot, sweet potato, pumpkin and broccoli. The unagi was a bit tough and the portion is small. On the other hand, i was amazed at how the poke had a great presentation. All the ingredients are neatly placed and the portion is very generous. The fish in the poke doesn't have the best quality though compared to other poke spots but it's decent. This is a good place for a quick lunch or dinner. I tried Hanami with my boyfriend he got the seafood ramen with the tumyum base: they don't skimp at all on the seafood & it was truly some of the best ramen we've had in the east bay!! We stopped in for a quick dinner tonight and ordered a bowl of tonkatsu ramen, and a large poke bowl. The ramen had great flavor with big pieces of pork belly. It was great, but next time I think I'll branch out and go with the Hanami special broth, which has some garlic in it, so we were told. Garlic on a date night is usually contraindicated. The poke bowl was also good. Just the right amount of sauce over a lot of different things (you get to pick). Decor is similar to the old Noodles Pho Me, which used to occupy the space, but upgraded and has a less utilitarian look than before (e.g. better lighting). My Wife and I went to Hanami tonight for the first time. We live close by and heard many great reviews. The first thing you'll notice is the charm and detailed ornaments of the clean restaurant. The detailed goes into their dishes and the appearance of the food. Even the wooden chopsticks are nice. My wife had their famous ramen noodles with a rich broth. The broth is not salty but nicely favor. I had sushi combo which included edema beans, soup, shrimp tempura, ginger, sushi rolls, raw salmon and potato cakes. The food is hot, fresh and delicious. The food and appearance reminds many people of a place in Japan. There's plenty of food for both of us. The single server is efficient - she must be tired at the end of her shift. Perhaps we got take-out on a bad day because our experience was very different from other reviews. Appreciated the decent portion for the poke bowl but the fish was not fresh and the round "scallops" were especially bad with a strong odor and taste. The cooked salmon meal was even worse, overcooked and the salmon must have been old because it had poor flavor. How can you mess up teriyaki salmon? The small salads that came with this set (artificial crab, potato) were of poor quality and taste, gimmicky because in an authentic Japanese restaurant these items would be so tasty! We discarded much of the meal after a few bites. Their ramen was ok, no complaints given the other items were so bad. As mentioned, this is not a Japanese-run restaurant (which is not a big deal since many or most "Japanese" restaurants in the bay area are equally gimmicky, note their "Japanese" decorations/decor). As long as the food tastes good, authentic may not be important. Sadly, this was such a waste of money. read more

The ramen here is not the best but if you're looking for a quick ramen take out I guess it'll do. The broth is somewhat different than traditional tonkatsu broths that I've had. I'm not sure what they do differently but I do not like it. I'm a big broth lover so if the flavor in the broth is not great the whole bowl of ramen is not great for me.
