The first time I came here, I went with my family. It's absolutely gorgeous, the atmosphere, the food, the service, everything is delicious. I personally recommend the Sesame Chicken and their Scallion Pancakes. The chicken is crisp, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The Scallion Pancakes are crisp, piping hot and comforting. Honestly, this food could heal wounds. Even when you order take out or pick up, it's done quickly and efficiently. The staff is always so friendly and courteous. I love this restaurant! It's a shame it's not close to where I live, but for the quality of food, I don't mind making the trip. Sushi is absolutely fresh and delicious. Almost everything I've had at this restaurant turned out to be amazing. We went to Hanami during the holidays, excuse the delay of this review. I can't express how much I enjoy dining at this place. Excellent Chinese and Japanese cuisines! This time I want to highly recommend the Crispy Orange Beef, made with refresh orange peel. The price is a bit high for this dish but it's made perfectly! After having the first plate, the price was beyond an issue. The four of us had THREE dinner size plates of this with white rice!!! Right amount of sauce; some places flood the plate with it and makes it distasteful. The sauce is very nicely balanced; not too sweet and filled with orange aroma. The beef is so tender and cut to the right size. You must try this at your next visit! To comment the other Yelpers regarding the service staff here, I've never had an issue. They always bring us what we ask for. I never ordered take out here. Why take home if you can dine at a quiet elegant atmosphere and enjoy hot off the plate food?! My friend, my dog and I had a lovely lunch at Hanami today. We sat at the pretty outdoor tables, which despite being on the Main Street in Cresskill were nice and quiet and well-shaded. The waiter kindly offered to bring my dog water on this hot day. My friend had the Crispy Tofu teriyaki and I had the Shrimp teriyaki. We both loved our dishes. They came with fresh broccoli, carrot, sprouts and a little bit (but not too much!) of onion. Sometimes teriyaki can be overly sweet and sticky but this teriyaki had a nice consistency and was not too sweet. I really appreciated that! You get your choice of white or brown rice with the dish. We also had delicious jasmine iced tea - my friend had the mango flavor and I had passionfruit. They came in a nice tall class with fresh mint and lime. Beautiful presentation and so yummy! I will definitely return to Hanami and recommend it to my friends and family. read more

This place is shit! Go to the Westwood one it is so much better. They made me pay for a small spicy mayo on the side and wouldn't let us pay normally. Rip Off......This place really let me down with the food and prices. The fried rice and meat portions are really small and are priced above 15 dollars. The taste not that great either. The fried rice was supposed to have eggs and i could barely find any. The kung pao chicken had a large base of broccoli and had too many peanuts almost no chicken. The egg rolls were fried in old oil and had that rancid oil taste. Most disappointing dish was the sushi i ordered a 16 dollar roll(small with a tiny amount of fish.. It looked more like a lunch special 7 dollar roll. Check out the picture and see there is barely any fish inside. I go to a place down the street in dumont and for the same price i get super fresh gigantic rolls( like i eat one and I'm down). What a rip off. Absolutely awful experience. I went to Hanami with my mom one night because I had been there a few times and it wasn't that bad. When it came to ordering, my mom just wanted to order sesame chicken with fried rice on the side. The waiter was extremely rude to us and not friendly at all. She asked for the fried rice on the side and he flat out said no you can't do that. Then she obviously looked disappointed and asked why they weren't able to do that, and all he said was no. Nothing else to say! He was not nice about it either. So then we proceeded to order and continue on. The manager walked by and my mom asked for her to come here and she asked why she wasn't able to get fried rice on the side and the manager was extremely unfriendly as well. All she told her was no we do not do that. Then proceeded to say she would need to order both entrees for the fried rice. Crazy! They want $40 for sesame chicken and fried rice?! Ridiculous. We were extremely disappointed in the customer service here. On top of it, they didn't once come back around to ask if we need anything or refills on water. I am never going back here again. This is a small restaurant near the library that is often overlooked but has quality sushi and other entrees. This is a restaurant that my work orders from quite frequently, so it is a pleasing spot if the administration prefers their food over other restaurants in town. In an effort to branch out beyond all the burgers and dogs I've reviewed on here, I'm trying to show that I am fully capable of eating and enjoying other cuisines. I have to agree w/the other reviewer, this is the best Chinese/Japanese food in the area. The dining experience is always pleasant, as Johnny (the owner/host) is always very engaging and gracious. There are a great many things to recommend but the Grand Marnier Shrimp and the Filet Mignon do stand out. The apps are all really good, edamame is a given to start but the different salads are always fresh and tastey. Portions are generous and the pricing is reasonable. The sushi is all very delicious, by now I think I've eaten everything off that menu, and the Fuji Mountain is a favorite of mine. Interior atmosphere is nice and Hanami can be a great night out for a parties of 2 or 20. Word to the wise, save room for dessert, you will not be disappointed! read more

I have only ordered food from this location and had it delivered but I frequently go to the location in West Wood all the time. I love Hanami because it is the best and freshest Chinese food I have ever had. When I order I am usually with a bunch of my friends and we tend to order a bunch of things to share like sesame chicken with broccoli and white rice, chicken and broccoli, sizzling duck crepe, edamame, sushi rolls (California roll, spider roll, & Weinberg roll). The spicy mayo here is really tasty and I put it on all of my sushi rolls. The sesame chicken in so crispy and sweet from here I absolutely love it. The chicken and broccoli is pretty good but nothing to write home about, its just your average chicken and broccoli. The sizzling duck crepe was interesting this time.. instead of white bread they served it with these really soft/marshmallow like rolls that I LOVED. The texture was soft and pillowy and really added a nice touch to my usual duck crepe. Edamame is always good and never over cooked, they could salt it a little more but I end up doing it myself in the end. The sushi rolls are always so fresh and tasty and travel really well. I love ordering from here because its consistently great Chinese food that I can depend on. I will agree on the prices being a little steep but the food is worth it. read more

My family has been coming to Hanami every weekend for the past 8 years. Granted it has come under new management at least once over the 8 years, Hanami is always consistently delicious and has some of the yummiest sushi I have ever had (and I have had a lot). It's always fresh and never funky. I highly recommend the Spicy Chicken Wontons, I get them every time I go. The sauce is to die for, and is also amazing to dip sushi into. The kung pao chicken is also almost always perfect. Sometimes it will come out (as it did this past Sunday) VERY garlicky but still always good. Hanami is the only place I would even think of LOOKING at kung pao chicken because it's beyond nasty at most other chinese food places. Best California roll ever. Hanami has a great business model. I love sushi, my gf won't touch it, but she loves Chinese. Hamani offers the best of both worlds with an extensive sushi menu and the standard Chinese offerings (but at a much higher quality). The decor leaves much to be desired (I think the shell of the place is based on a 1980s Wendy's. However, the food is the main attraction here. (The service is also attentive). The lunch specials are one of the better deals in Bergen County, offering sushi and a Chinese main for under $13. The dinner menu is extensive and covers just about every genre of sushi (Bonus points for having really really fresh octopus). The only pitfall may be the absence of a good bar; their food is made for Sake! read more

Above average japanese and chinese food. It usually pretty good but once in a while I get food a little over cooked. It's a little pricey but you pay for what you get. I never really dine as I always order. 4 out of 5 times it's very good. Just a little annoying I get over cooked food once in a while. The sesame chicken is top notch (most of the time)... and they know it because it's about $1 dollar more than most entrees. Really like the spicy tuna as well. Certainly worth a try. If it were not for the over cooked food once in a while I would have gone the 5 stars. What a disgrace. One of the male waiters, not sure if he's the owner, seems to have a bad reputation for being absurdly rude and today I witnessed it myself. My father is from New York City where BYOB isn't very common, so he asks for a beer. -The waiter, without explanation or any eye contact, aggressively says "no." When my father proceeded to ask why, the waiter insisted with his vague "no" yet again with no explanation. Eventually he tells my father to "pay for the liquor license" in a very condescending way (still without eye contact). In any other case, this would seem like a humorous response but this waiter was definitely not trying to be humorous in any way. In fact he seemed miserable and irritated. I asked him why he had such a bitter attitude if we are paying customers and my father was only curious. (No direct response). Never at any point did he change his demeanor which made us very uncomfortable so we asked for a different server. Definitely not coming back if I have to deal with this guy again. read more

Food is good, not great. Prices are expensive, but would be worth it if food was as good as it was 5 years ago. Take out service is fast, but orders are always wrong. Missing items, missing condiments, ect. The mgr Michael, is very polite but told me two years ago its the drivers fault (17 yr old high school kids) . Today my wife's roll was wrong, and my request for extra mustard resulted in one small mustard. When I called back they were very gracious, offered to replace the wrong roll (after first blaming my wife) . Unfortunately, they sent more DUCK SAUCE. When I called back Michael said that he was frustrated and upset because they TRY, but wasn't going to fire his cashier. He also said that he knows that orders are always wrong, and that he told my wife in the past not to order from them. They had my credit card on file and we ordered 3 times a week on average He said that I could not talk to the owner. I'm done. Average expensive food, fast wrong take out, and a manager that doesn't get it.
