I travel to get sushi from Hanabis. The restaurant has a good ambience and I feel at home here.

I work nearby, and I used to frequent this place for lunch. It was always really good, but not stellar. Good for the price. In recent years, ever since Covid, their quality has dropped quite a bit. Service is good, but every freaking time I get California rolls lately, the avocado is brown. I order sushi rolls and obento boxes for dinner for my family, and they've rejected the california rolls every time. I pick up my order, 5 minute drive home, and they're brown. I think they make up the california rolls ahead of time, and they just sit around too long. I've complained about this to them at least three times, but they never fix the issue. read more

You can't deny the food here is good. This is my second time coming here and the wait has always been long. Today We came in and was next in like to order. We stood there for a few minutes and they took in 5 phone orders before they acknowledged us (I tried getting their attention a few times). We wanted to eat outside so after ordering our food We went out and took a seat. When one of the workers came out I asked for water and I was told that I had ordered to go so I couldn't get water. And the lady walked away. The tables are dirty, one of the workers came to clean the tables and they didn't clean ours. And they are simply assuming orders are to go. I've been waiting longer than an hour for my food and they said it would be 25 minutes. If you want good service don't come here. read more

Very disappointed. This is the 3rd time I've been over the years. Went in after commuting from Berkeley and was craving salmon teriyaki and tempura bento box. (I should have got my craving from Berkeley). I ordered to go and live around the corner so the food couldn't have gone bad that fast. The Yam tempura was moldy tasting, the rest were not crispy at all. (I ate one while driving, lol) The salmon was NOT fresh at ALL. Who wants old fish? Yuck. It wasn't even warm. They threw an egg roll on top and that was soggy and gross. The salad was fresh but that should be a no-brainer. The rice wasn't fresh either. The food came our WAY too fast which leads me to believe it's old. I also ordered a simple spicy tuna roll and it was soggy and disgusting. We ordered a wide variety of food on a Sunday night for takeout. There were customers eating inside and outside the restaurant when we arrived and our wait was only 20 min for our order. Our meals included shrimp/ veggie tempura, California roll,Dragon Roll, Spider Roll, Tekka Donburi &, Unagi Donburi dinners. Everything was fair but definitely do not expect high quality. Hubby's bento was enough to share between two..wish we had just done that instead of ordering my roll & his. Needless to say we had too much food and had to get two take home boxes. Wish they had a small bento for the kid or just a teriyaki bowl. My 7yr old had to order their kid bento box. I had to help her finished it cause it was way too much for her. Combo came with a salad and miso soup which we found way to heavy on the salt. Price is average for sushi..cost for a family was about $50. That included the monster edamamon ($5) & two drinks ($3 each). Next time I would not order another (8pcs) roll and maybe just order a smaller roll ($5-6) & just share the bento boxes with the hubby and kid. Hanabi Sushi offers consistent food that's above par, they might not be gourmet Japanese, but they're definitely good. There's a interesting variety of special rolls, but the real secret is the bento box lunch (Top Tip: you're 2nd choice should be the tempura). Walking in here is like walking in your friend's kitchen, I wouldn't call it the best, but I would definitely miss it if I couldn't have it. read more

Got their sushi lunch combo A: 6 piece nigiri & 6 piece California roll for $10.95. $11.90 total with tax. It does come with miso soup and salad. Pretty good deal for what the amount your getting and the quality was as expected. The nigiri rice was pretty stale and the portion to the fish was 75% rice, 25% fish. The fish quality was so so, I wasn't expecting much and I got just that. The most notable is that the salmon tastes like it was from a regular market.. not sushi grade. The California roll was lacking avocado all the way through and some of the avocado was brownish, the rice it was wrapped with was also stale, and the imitation crab mix was good - nothing special though. Miso soup was decent, you get seaweed and tofu bits in it. Salad was typical green salad with an interesting tangy ranch dressing. Overall, the price is what you're getting. I'll properly come back for a quick California roll fix but unsure if I'll venture into their other rolls. Maybe try their own entrees - large menu. What I like about this restaurant is that the serving sizes are decent and the food tasted reasonably fresh. My service was fine but I arrived relatively early for lunch. Another who arrived later when the restaurant was busy did not have as good of an experience. Thus for the best service, I recommend arriving early and for slower service, I recommend arriving later. What I think could be improved about the restaurant is the billing accuracy. For example, I ate there once yet was billed three times. I called the restaurant to resolve this issue but was told to come back later. Thus I recommend paying in cash instead of credit card because you cannot be sure how you will be billed after you sign. read more

Cute little spot for sushi. Everyone is really nice here. Its usually packed for lunch. I like the boarder in-between the tables so strangers can share a table while still feeling like they have their own space. Other than that, the food is good! I love their Miso Soup and I'm pretty picky when it comes to Miso Soup! I stick with the CA roll and chicken teriyaki with rice. Good portion sizes for the price. I felt a little rushed especially went the menu has so many choices! We picked quickly and the sushi was fantastic and was served very quickly! We were done eating by 9 pm. We frequent this sushi place since we work around the corner, we've never had any issues today however I found this bug in my soup and when we told the waitress she grabbed it with a napkin didn't say one word and continued to be absolutely rude the entire rest of our meal as if it was our fault. They didn't offer to comp or give any discounts. As we were paying I asked if they could give us a discount n we received 2$ off a 40$ meal. Won't be coming back. Well, it was a spur of the moment choice to stop here at Hanabi Sushi. I can say that the Simba roll, Toro nigiri, and monster roll were nice. The only thing that kind of sucked is that even tho they weren't that busy it took to long to receive of food. Even sitting at the sushi bar seemed awkward. It was a very quiet experience. Other places we have been have had more inviting chefs and a warmer atmosphere. I don't know if I would return anytime soon simply because there are much better options in the Bay Area. After we had ate we asked for our check. The waiting time to pay our bill was just shy of twenty minutes. If you just want a bland customer service experience and don't mind sitting for unnecessary amounts of time then pop right in. I hope you have a better experience then us. read more

Had a really bad experience today. We are weekly customers. For some reason every time we come we get the same exact order and the price is always different. We have always over looked it because we have always been happy with the food. The customer service we had was absolutely horrible and you can tell they all hated their jobs and didn't really care what they were doing. We always get the flying shrimp appetizer and it was cold and the shrimp were pale and not cooked. I let the waitress know and she brought back 3 shrimp out of a 5 shrimp order. I hate complaining but what are we paying for? I mentioned our dissatisfaction and the waitress tried to prove us wrong with the price change by writing us a breakdown? Tried this place out on Friday, and I am not a fan. I ordered a bento box that included grilled veggies, two small pieces of tempura shrimp, unagi don, California rolls and beef bbq. While the bbq was pretty flavorful, my unagi don seemed under cooked. Couldn't eat it. The rolls we ordered were a fair size, and the fish seemed pretty fresh. I think there is so much on the menu, it's hard to order. It seems like they have everything, and some entrees are better than others. Another thing that was disgusting was that we kept hearing coughing from the kitchen. And like not-covering-your-mouth, loud coughing. I'm not the biggest fan of sushi, but this place had a big enough menu to satiate everyone. The oyako don is quite good as is the bul go gi. The staff is always friendly and helpful. However it does get warm in there on hot days. If you need to use the toilet, it's a little disconcerting having to walk through the kitchen to find the tiny lavatory.
