The sequence of having been told 4, then 2, then no rooms left was especially frustrating and seemed to me retaliatory for my mild expression of dismay, consternation, and frustration. My daughters and I arrived late from Logan Airport due to Debby weather, delayed rental car, and rain on the turnpike. We were attending my parents' funeral on the 10th. I understand that all people aren't going to be best friends; however, this night manager showed zero empathy. And worse, with the cockamamie room "countdown," I felt the manager exhibited personal animus. We stayed at an alternative--a nearby Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott--which we booked ourselves. Even so, on August 12, I received from Homewood Suites by Hilton an invoice and a paid receipt for all nights of the stay, August 9, 10, and 11. The only time spent at Homewood Suites by Hilton was in the lobby at 4 a.m. with the vindictive night manager counting down "4 rooms left," then "2 rooms left," and finally "no rooms left."

We stayed here while our daughter attended a dance intensive, and in more than **550 nights at Marriott properties across the country**, this was hands down the most disgusting, mismanaged, and unacceptable hotel experience we have ever had. We found a **bed bug in our room**. We have photographs and video documenting it. We immediately notified the front desk and were told that housekeeping would enter the room while we were gone, clean it, inspect the situation, and determine whether the room needed to be sprayed or treated. We specifically told the staff that we would be away all day. When we returned that evening, the room had not been cleaned. It had not been inspected. It had not been treated. Nothing had been done. We later contacted Marriott Customer Care. As a Platinum Elite member, I explained the entire situation. The representative was appalled, documented everything, and told us that the hotel should never have attempted to place us back into a room where a bed bug had been reported. We were told the room should have been immediately blocked from use and professionally treated. Instead, this hotel apparently thought it was acceptable to leave the room untouched and send a family back into it. The hotel eventually offered us another room. When we entered that room, it was filthy. There was visible hair throughout the bedding, making it obvious that the room had either not been properly cleaned or had not been inspected before being assigned to us. So after discovering a bed bug, we were moved into another room that was also unsanitary. The staff repeatedly apologized to my wife and told her that: * Our Fairfield stay would be refunded. * The hotel would arrange and pay for another Marriott property down the road. * The hotel would cover reasonable cleaning costs for our clothing and luggage because of the bed bug exposure. * The general manager would personally contact me to resolve the situation. We were told the general manager would call Saturday night. He did not. I called again Sunday. The front desk confirmed that they had my correct phone number and assured me that the general manager would absolutely call. He did not. It is now Wednesday, and the general manager still has not contacted us. Even worse, the hotel's phone lines have reportedly been down for days, to the point that Marriott Customer Care has been unable to reach the property themselves. Despite every promise made by the staff, we have now been charged for the entire Fairfield stay **and** the replacement hotel. No refund. No reimbursement. No payment for cleaning our belongings. No explanation. No accountability. No phone call from the general manager. Nothing. This was not a minor inconvenience or a simple housekeeping mistake. This was a complete breakdown in sanitation, guest safety, communication, billing, and management. A bed bug was found and documented. The room was not handled appropriately. The replacement room was filthy. We were promised that the charges would be covered. We were then charged for both hotels. The general manager has repeatedly ignored the situation. The fact that a family can report a bed bug, be given a dirty replacement room, be promised a refund and alternative lodging, be charged for everything anyway, and then be completely ignored by management is beyond unacceptable. The general manager's refusal to contact us after multiple promises speaks volumes about how this property is operated. We expect an immediate refund for the Fairfield stay, reimbursement for the replacement hotel, reimbursement for the necessary cleaning of our clothing and luggage, and direct contact from the general manager. Until this is fully resolved, I strongly recommend that travelers avoid this hotel like the plague. There are far too many hotels in the area to risk your family, your belongings, and your money at a property that handled a serious bed bug complaint this irresponsibly.

Secondly, the wall paper was peeling off both in the room and in the bathroom. Third, the bathroom was not clean. The tub was disgusting. There was hair left around the room and we were a little nervous to sleep in the beds. Breakfast was included and standard continental offerings - make your own waffles, some form of scrambled egg, breakfast meats and usually a steamed packaged item, cereals, yogurts, granola and oatmeal with assorted juices and coffee that was so bad I spit it out. My husband and I triple checked with the waitress that if I ate the 'gluten free Riverton pizza' would I be safe? She assured me multiple times yes that I would be. When I asked "is it baked in a separate pizza oven?" She replied "do not worry about cross contamination". She basically dodged the answer 'no' it wouldn't be in separate gluten free oven. But I took her word for it because I am a server also at the Belden house and mews, in litchfield. We are trained to take allergies seriously. If the answer was that 'sorry it's in the same oven as regular pizza' I would have gotten a salad to be safe. But again, I trusted that there was no cross contamination. However, I immediately got sick after one slice, had to cut dinner short, went home and immediately went to bed cutting my visit short with my out of town relatives. I'm just very disappointed that she didn't take my allergy seriously resulting in my evening being ruined when a simple solution of me getting a salad instead would have been better. This happened last night (Friday 8/14 at 6p.m.) I just hope next time when someone has an allergy she takes it seriously. I live right in town half a mile from the inn and now I can't eat there ever again.
