Overall, my tummy was satisfied. Some things exceeded my expectations, while others left me disappointed. First, when you order water, they only have bottled and sell it for fifty cents -- not a huge deal, but weird for a sit-down place. Staff is friendly enough and very prompt. We ordered the Hamido plate for 3 but if could have easily fed 5, which is awesome because that means leftovers! The pickles were amazing. The salad, hummus, garlic sauce, falafel, grape leaves, and skewered meats were all very good too. The rice was surprisingly delicious -- lots of warm spices and meat bits in it. The big disappointment was the schwarma. Both the chicken and the lamb (or beef -- they don't specify) were very dry. When I heated them the next day, they were cardboard, which took some of the joy out of the whole "leftovers" thing. Finally, the bathroom was disgusting -- a single unisex stall with splatter on the walls, overflowing garbage, and sticky floors. Absolutely gross and completely unacceptable. So, while I did enjoy most of my food, I would not recommend this place because there are better options out there. read more

Glad I gave them a second chance after disappointing shawarma first time around. We got kafta plate, shawarma combo and rotisserie chicken. Kafta and beef shawarma were off the hook. Chicken shawarma did not have too much fat unlike my previous experience. Garlic sauce was perfectly tangy and complimented the meats very well. Rotisserie chicken wasn't bad but definitely not something you come here for. You go to golden chicken if all you want is rotisserie. read more

so so good! i loved eating here. the portions are huge (sometimes bad, sometimes good, but in this case very very good), the people are nice, and it's super cheap. i loved their soft pita bread in bags on the table. i loved the lemon juice, of which i used half the bottle. the baba ganouj stands out as some of the best i've ever had. it's so full and rich and you can taste the eggplant. one of the few times in my life i've eaten something cold and immediately thought umami. hummus seemed good too, though i don't love hummus so i'm not the best person to ask. kifta was nicely spiced without being overly salty. i never like chicken too much, but i had a bite of my date's and it was not as dry as chicken usually is. not a ringing endorsement, but kind of the nicest thing i'll say about chicken usually. the only thing that was kind of weird was that they only had bottled water, i think. if you're in the neighborhood, i highly recommend it. if i came here again, i would just gorge on baba ganouj. read more

The food here is delicious! Love their meat shrawma, its better than chicken. Big portions, very filling. 2 people meal can feed 3 people, unless the 2 people eat alot. I got the small shrawma salad and it was pretty filling. We enjoy the food here and would come back for more. So worth the drive. Delicious shrawma meat, so flavorful! This place was a pleasant surprise! I used the Yelp app on my phone to find a place in Dearborn, as we were in that area tonight, and we settled on Hamido. Upon first impression, I thought we were in for a lame experience. The place is small, really small, but it was bustling with carry-out orders and locals eating. There's a HUGE tv in the corner. The bottled water instead of glasses of water was a little surprising (and wasteful), but at least I could take my bottle to go! Between the carry-out people coming in and out and the TV, it's not exactly a quiet place to eat. But the food really became the center of our attention. We ordered the Hamido Special Platter for two, and it was divine! The fatoush salad was huge and really crisp & flavorful. Noticeable touches of parsley, dill and lemon. The platter came with three kinds of shish kabob, beef and chicken shwarma, and tons of seasoned rice. Everything was delicious, but the shwarmas and shish kafta really stood out. The meats were moist, flavorful and tender. No "scary" parts of meat or fat. The garlic sauce was uber flavorful, if you're into garlic (we are). The hummus was very creamy and smooth, and had a great hint of olive oil and tahini. Very nice. Also, the portions were enough for three hungry diners. I felt reluctant to give five stars because I'm really inexperienced when it comes to the other middle-eastern restaurants in the area, so I can't say I know how it stacks up. I'm going to be honest it's a four because of all the lil things that made this a good experience. I didn't go into this with the idea that it was going to be on par with my favorite uptown Middle Eastern restaurants, but exactly as someone mentioned in a previous review; someone's kitchen back home. yes, you definitely get more food for the $. I had plenty for a full dinner the next day. I ordered the stuffed lamb. Now, I thought "stuffed" implied something was stuffed, not in this case, but thats o.k. because the dish was YUMMY. Chunks of moist, tender, flavorful lamb on a HUMUNGOUS portion of rice. Very good. Personally, I would have loved more lamb (as I loooove it and don't get to eat it too often) and less rice. This was served with a nice bowl of fatoush salad. YUM and I liked that every thing was cut up into nice bite size pieces. The hubs had the chicken tawook which consisted of 4 nice sized chunks of moist, tender, flavorful chicken. Served with babaganoosh, heaping portion of pickles, a slice of pita bread and that sinfully delicious garlic sauce. The baba was very creamy and very good. We also ordered a med. size of hummus. CREAMY and perfect flavors. Just the right bit of tartness, with the creamy texture. YUM They serve you a huge helping of peppers and pickles. YUM! We were the minority and as often as I may feel a lil awkward walking into a place where you're given the once over and you stick out like a sore thumb, this wasn't so bad. BTW, truly gives you an insight as to what minority groups feel like when they walk into that situation; smile and be welcoming! Had lunch with a friend. The service kind of sucked, but my shish tawook sandwich was incredible. The hummus has way to much lemon in it for my taste, and they do plain pita. I guess I'm spoiled by the fresh warm bread I get at Beirut by Night. I should have ordered the chicken ghalaya I got last time and that would have made me forget all about the hummus and the service, cause I'd be floating in that warm happy place that good comfort food sends you. Lots of locals, great Toum (garlic sauce), really delicious hommus, flavorful meats, pickled cucumber and respectable fattoush. And that hommus (again!). I have had it all over the world, but something about theirs is memorable Got the entree for two. Didn't like their rice (too al dente), service was friendly, if slow, no freshly baked bread and only two fresh juice offerings, but solid meal with gigantic portions. I really want to give this place more. The prices are so reasonable and the food is awesome. You get bottled water free and they have some sweet old school bottled sodas in the cooler. The place is very loud and small. I've brought groups of friends here to share the generous Tabouleh bowl and it was as if we were in the middle of traffic in Manhattan. People gather at the door for their takeout and more at the front of the register to pay. It is the standard Middle Eastern staples. But they seem to get that hummus doesn't have to be $14.95 because you put a little meat with it. There seems to be a continuous turnover of the waitstaff. I stop in twice a week because I go to U of MD nearby. I usually come in between classes and service is more than prompt allowing me to come and have a good meal and be back in time for my next class. As a standalone take out spot it would probably get 5 stars from me. The problem lies in the fact that when I come and when I bring others the microscope never comes off. Inevitably the fish bowl effect affects the meal. The problem is that if you aren't Arabic or Middle Eastern (as my Chaldean relatives elbow me in the ribs) the stares never stop. I wouldn't go as far to say that they are outwardly rude but I have yet to have a feeling of welcome when coming here. The Kappa Alpha Phi young feller that runs the counter during the day makes me think twice about bringing any female friends with me to lunch. He's that aggressive. I had Meat & Chicken Shawarma Plate and Falafal. I must say that this place has the best meat shawarma that I've ever had. It was juicy, not dry like some other places. The rice had some ground beef (?) in it. It was fine, but I prefer plain rice since the dish already came with a lot of meat & chicken. The falafals were okay. I've had better ones. Nice staff. We really enjoyed the authentic flavor and it really felt like we were back in Lebanon at our local restaurant! Sure I'm a fan. What I like about Hamido is it's unassuming. The food, while simple has a complex flavor that I've come to enjoy about Mid Eastern food. I tried both the Chicken Shwarma and the Shish Tawook and was happy with both of them. I guess I should have tried the rotisserie chicken. I'm told that it's what people really go here for an it looked divine spinning on a rack at the back of the restaurant. The workers here went out of the way to be nice and one of the cool things is that the entire staff was really young and working their butts off. I'll definitely take a trip back here. Pretty good faruj with amazing garlic sauce and pickles. The management are nice so if you don't like something make sure to go back and fix it. They're famous for the faruj so I haven't really tried anything else. They also have reasonable prices. read more

I called and asked if the chicken shawarma was all white meat and the guy who answered said yes its all breast. So I placed a chicken shawarma entrée with hummus and he said 30 min. Chicken shawarma take 4 min to shave off the skewer and hummus takes a min to spoon in a carry out container. I showed up in 10 min and it was ready. I finally get home and open up the container to find a mix of white and dark meat. I had to pick through the meat and it was juicy and cooked perfect but I didn't get what I ordered. I would have went back but I live on the west side and this place is busy and I was starving. Better off going to Tuhamas next time or Golden Bakery where they use all white meat. I gave 2 stars because the hummus is delicious and the white meat I did get was juicy and cooked perfect. read more

Read the raves about this restaurant and checked out the menu on yelp. Went to pick up my phone order and bill was much higher than expected. Asked guy about it and he said "oh that's a 10 yr old menu on that website" and shrugged. Also didn't have menus for takeaway. SO BE CERTAIN TO ASK FOR CURRENT PRICES BEFORE YOU ORDER. As for the food, I got 3 meals. The chicken shawarma was kinda dry and had a good amount of skin or fat pieces in it. It wasn't terrible but I've had much better for a comparable price or less. The rice was ok and the only accompaniment was a few tomato slices with a bunch of pickle shavings. On a positive note the hummus was good and getting a bag of pita was a plus. read more

This place is the bomb. There are about a million middle eastern restaurants in Metro Detroit, but this is probably my favorite. The food is awesome and the portions are gigantic. This place is always crowded in my experience, but definitely worth the wait. Once you're seated, the service is fast and friendly. It looks like they do a mean carryout service, too. They could not have done anything better. Friendly service Full house at 9:00 p.m. on a Thursday evening, mostly locals. Very good value, as you get a *lot* of good food for the money. We ordered the special plate for two. Included starters, at no extra charge, was an ample plate of hummus, and a nice sized bowl of mixed greens with parsley and sumac, dressed lightly. They also served a small plate of peppers and pickled cucumbers. The plate for two could have easily served 4, with beef and chicken shawarma, kibbe, chicken kabob, rice cooked with ground beef and cinnamon, sliced tomatoes, onion slices, fresh romaine leaves, and a basket of pita. The restaurant is a small converted fast-food building that has a huge carry-out business with a small/busy parking lot. Almost all of its clientele are middle-eastern and some of the menu is only printed on arabic(?). Hamido serves the local community and if you don't know much about middle-eastern food you may have problems ordering. We probably ordered wrong. My wife won't go back, but I thought my lentil soup and Falafel sandwich were good. I expected the Tabbouli to have something other than parsley in it - so I wouldn't order that again. I was hoping to be floored, but was really not that impressed. The baba ganoush was tasty but not unforgettably so. I settled for shish kabob based on what the cashier recommended. I ordered carry out, and that was likely my mistake since I was driving back to Royal Oak with a pit stop on the way. Now that I look at the reviews, and everyone mentions the large portions they received. This was not the case with the kabob. Not only was it only a little bit of meat, but it was kind of chewy. (Does beef/lamb become chewy as it cools to room temperature?) While I was waiting for my food, I saw a platter of chicken shwarma meat and rice that looked divine. Mistake #2, I probably ordered the wrong thing. The bread was an afterthought - sandwich bags full of thin flatness. Booooooo . . . I would consider giving the place another go round, but this trip did not live up to the hype. read more

I enjoyed a quick lunch at Hamido, thanks to all of the positive reviews on Yelp. The falafel was some of the best you will find in the Metro area, and it was so tasty with the tahini. While I still think the best falafel is at Yossi's, I don't think you can customize your sandwich like you can at Hamido. Also, the fatoush salad was very tasty, in the realm of Pita Cafe and Al Ameer. I would definitely return for lunch. The service was fast, the place got to be jumping, and I enjoyed watching the Middle Eastern soap operas while I ate. read more
