I was born and raised in North New Jersey and I now live in Columbus, OH so I have tried pretty much every Arabic restaurant you can try. I bragged about how great their food is to my family in New Jersey and I finally got them to come out and try it for themselves and they were blown away! Their chicken shawarma and Farouj is the best in the world and this includes places I have tried overseas! The food is great however the owner abu Kassem was extremely rude to me over the phone and when I addressed him in person he denied speaking to me. I asked him what his name was when he was taking my order over the phone... I asked for the six sandwiches to be placed in a tray rather than the bags. This order was going to the hospital to be given to physicians to enjoy on Christmas. I wanted it to look a little presentable ‍ not sure what the big deal was. When I asked for this, he replied "oh that's funny". I wasn't sure what was funny? I tried addressing this over the phone and he ignored my question. I'm super confused as to what the big deal of me asking this? Lmao if you want to change extra for a tray by all means go ahead, just don't be rude to your customers. AMAZINGG. Literally one of the best middle-eastern restaurants I have ever been. Our family decided to order the Hamido Special Plate for $37.99 since it had most of the food items on the plate + it fit for 4 people's stomachs haha. I kid you not, it was soo good. The rice had a rich seasoned-buttery taste to; the chicken and meat shawarma were so tender and smokey; the falafel was absolutely fluffy and soft but crispy on the outside; and the sauce which is my favorite part was two types (some kind of garlic, whipped buttery sauce ; tahini, salty, creamy sauce) were just so tasty. I would drown everything with it, especially the fresh pita bread they would make theirselves that would be served with everything. Staff were friendly. This place will go down in (our) history as the location of one of our most awkward meals ever. And it has nothing to do with the food. Or not even the fact that the night before a marathon, I was gorging on protein instead of carb loading. (but see, I had done my carb loading diligently all week long, and meat was eaten with fair amounts of pita bread and rice, so please, rest assured). It's just that being totally oblivious to time and space, I was pretty inappropriate the whole time and didn't realize until my dining companion pointed it to me back in the car. Then I felt ashamed and stupid, but since I was also full and happy - this feeling of discomfort didn't last too long before I fell asleep to oblivion. Hamido is located in the heart of Dearborn, and caters to the large Middle Eastern community who lives there. The food is fairly authentic, cheap, abundant and I can tell you that the two of us destroyed the Hamido special plate for two featuring a giant bowl of Lebanese salad, a heaping serving of hummus, meat and chicken shawarma, shish kebab, shish tawook, kafta and rice. Yes. All that. And pitaS. Plural. Oh, and an exquisite garlic sauce that I used generously everywhere. My favorite was the chiken shawarma, moist and delicious - my least favorite, the kebab (my baby makes a mean one). But here what made our dinner all the more special: being the only two Europeans in the the dining room, me wearing an extremely low-cut shirt, crying out loud at some point (that happens) and talking about sex (for some reason). OMG this food is amaaaaaaaaaaazing!! We split the combo platter for 2, which came with hummus, salad, meats (chicken, beef, lamb), rice, and veggies. Everything was cooked to perfection--all the eat had a delicious slightly charred crust that only comes from the rotisserie style cooking. The salad was also really fresh. This food is so good that my mother cried when she ate it. I do not kid you. Tears in her eyes, shwarma in her hand she looked at me and said, "It hasn't been this good since Kuwait" (from whence she immigrated as a young teen). The falafel is the best I have had ANYWHERE, including Jordan, Syria and Egypt. My mouth is literally watering as I write this. The tabbouli is spectacular, served on romaine lettuce as it should be, and the hummus and baba ghannouj are very good. The only thing lacking was the wara' dawali (grape leaves). Sort of boring, especially compared to the flavor explosion that is the rest of the food here. The minute we sat down, we were brought a plate of mukhallal (pickles). For anybody who knows Arabic food, this is the definition of a proper meal. Bread is in baskets on the table, as is some very tasty olive oil. We were told this joint was the best Persian food in Dearborn. Five of us went to the restaurant and ordered the "special plate for 5 people." It was more like a meal for 10 lumberjacks after a hard days work. We ate about a third of it and bagged the rest. We were stuffed to the gills - I wasn't hungry for breakfast or lunch the next day. My dining companion was a virgin, with eyes bigger than his stomach. 1 bag of leftover chicken, lamb, and beef + fattoush and hummus later, we left full and happy. The problem with Dearborn/Middle Eastern food is that there are too many places to choose from. There's a middle eastern restaurant on every corner and on every block in between. It's pretty hard to separate yourself from the rest. Hamidos does a pretty good job at separating themselves from other places who provide the same style of food. One thing Hamidos has going for themselves is that they are BUSY. Busy meaning they are always dishing out fresh food. There's always people dining in and picking up food from here. People are in and out constantly. My go-to meal here in their boneless chicken. You can get this anywhere in the dearborn area but as mentioned earlier, they do things right here and separate themselves from the bunch. Also, stop in on Saturday and get yourself some lamb and rice. It's only available on Saturday. You know it's fresh when it's only made on one day of the week. read more

Hamido..you make me so happy. Whenever I eat something non-American, my favorite places are the ones where the 'natives' of that country or culture dine. It is a sure fire way to know you are about to be served the real deal, and that you are in for a treat. Middle Eastern cuisine is one I feel very comfortable within. Being well-traveled to several Muslim countries, and hailing from a country which has a large cultural diversity I have been exposed to this wonderful culture, its friendly people and delicious food for nearly 24 years. This place is the real deal. We ordered a plate for two with a little bit of everything, as well as a falafel appetizer. We were not big fans of the falafel, our portion was 'overcooked' (to put it mildly) which affected the flavor negatively. In all honesty, we will need to reorder to be able to make a better judgement. When our actual dinner arrived though, all was forgiven and forgotten. A large, delectable fattoush salad is included in this feast for two. I could eat the fattoush on its own, it was that good. The veggies were fresh and crunchy, and the dressing was not overly heavy which means it did not overpower and did not weigh the salad down (reducing soggyness). We had beef and chicken shoarma, kafta and shish tawook, complimented by almond rice and vampire-fighting toum. This stuff was so strong and garlicky, it sent me straight to heaven. All meats were juicy and well seasoned, though my favorites were the chicken items. Their rice is seasoned with a light sprinkling of cinnamon (I think), which makes the side a bit more interesting than most. We were stuffed beyond belief, and still had plenty to take home. It is an insane value for your money, and absolutely a great place to check out. Be careful you don't pass up the restaurant, it kinda looks like an old Taco Bell type of building. Also make sure to save some room for dessert. There is items available here, but we like to visit Shatila afterwards to conclude our 'ethnic' evening. read more

The Uber driver told us that he eats there weekly. After having gone there, I wonder why he doesn't go daily. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon at 4pm. We must have missed the memo letting us know that every Middle Eastern family in Dearborn would be at the restaurant, but it was packed already. And for an out of towner, a great sight is seeing the place filled with people who are of the same ethnic background as the restaurant purports to make food from. After all, would you really want to eat at a Chinese restaurant where only non-Chinese people go? We ordered the Hamido plate for 2, and their Saturday special (stuffed lamb over rice). Their portions are so amazingly generous that this was more than enough for 4 hungry adults, and we had leftovers too. Their dishes were insanely delicious, and their hummus was the best that I have ever had. My family said that the lamb was so tender, it melted in their mouths. Make sure that you get this if it is not sold out on a Saturday. In fact, I'd drive back to Hamido on a Saturday just for that dish. As a point of comparison, we went to Al-Ameer the day before and there was no comparison in terms of both value and food quality. Hamido wins flat out. Now, I can make a fair dent in my share of buffets and have seriously given some thought to MvF challenges. But I had to say no more halfway through. Extremely bad & horrible service and experience. Went there with my family and ordered food. Even though the restaurant was almost empty it took them 30 mins to get the food. Once it arrived our server never came back and checked with us to see if we needed anything or if food was ok. My wife and I even tried to wave and catch attention of the waiter with absolutely no effect. And check this out when our check came the server just stood right at my head and said I need 15% tip. I mean holy #@!#$@!. After the great NO service she expects me to pay her tip!!! I went straight to the manager, told him that I drive 40 mins to come out of my way to come to Hamido for their food and I get harassed and hounded by server for tip even though she never once checked back and served us?! Holy crap. Hamido is definitely zero frills, but all delicious. We ordered the Hamido platter for 2 and a side of fried kibbeh. I'd have been full from just the kibbeh, because they do not play with the portion sizes at all. The salad was crispy and tangy with delicious little pita chip croutons. A plate of pepperoncini and (I believe) pickled turnips came out with the meal. The hummus was, hands down, the best I have ever eaten. So smooth, creamy, garlicky and full of flavor. Now, that platter of delicious? I don't even know that I can articulate it. So freaking good. The most tender chicken I've ever eaten, the most flavorful rice, the biggest punch from the tuom. We had a flight back to Texas and definitely took three to-go boxes through security. Didn't even care. It was worth every side eye that we got. Their shawarmas are only $3.25 and their lentil soup is only $2.50 with unlimited pita and creamy garlic dip. Need a side of beet pickle? They bring out a plateful! They are definitely not stingy when it comes to portions. I had just finished my workout at a Crossfit box in the area and decided to pick up some dinner on the way home. It was a Friday night and this place was BUMPING. And, for good reason. Their food was amazing, and I got a lot of it for the price. I did the dinner for two along with a large side of garlic. The $4 side of garlic came in a 16 or 20 oz takeout styrofoam cup. SO MUCH GARLIC! :) Their hummous was unlike any kind I've had before- it was so fluffy, like it had been whipped! The food was absolutely AMAZING. Their chicken shawarma especially is one of the best that I ever had. The hummus wasn't that great ( it was a little runny and not as thick as it should be) but other wise the food is splendid. So I loved my experience here up until the end. This place was packed, and I say this because I don't understand why they have to do a couple of things that made me leave a little pissed and I think other people probably share my opinion. First, they bring you bottled water as soon as you sit down without you ordering it and charge you for it (each bottle is 50cents) so not a huge deal but the other thing is they enforce a 15% tip that you won't find about until you are paying your bill. When I argued that I decide the tip the waitress brought me a little laminated paper saying the restaurant owners enforce this tip. These small things maybe made a couple of bucks difference but made me leave upset. Husband immediately knows that he wants the lamb chops again - and I opt for the Shish Combo with Kabob, Tawook, Kafta, & Fattoush. Again, it's amazing! Our waitress was attentive and courteous - she was willing to explain things on the menu until she saw that we knew what was what. Bonus points for trying to help and the smile on her face when she saw that we knew the food. Excellent blue-collar Arabic eatery with probably a bit of a consistency issue from dish to dish. I've eaten there four times now. First three times, the chicken shawarma was good. This past time, it was incredible. Varying amounts of toum every time, though the toum itself is consistency velvety and garlicky. I can't really say I've had better middle eastern food. Hummus was silky and tabbouleh flavorful and fresh tasting. I am (currently) vegetarian so there weren't many options for me for lunch. The meat offerings looked so good I almost allowed an exception for the day but in the end I ended up ordering the vegetarian plate to go. It took a good 10 minutes to prepare so that is a good sign, they made everything fresh to order.. The rice wrapped with grape leave things were actually good, and I'm usually not a big fan. While Hamido may not be the most impressive place when you first walk in, it certainly serves food that is deserving of a 5 star restaurant. From the free pickled veggies to the endless bags of fresh pita bread, Hamido really has it all. Every time I come here, I always end up ordering Hamido's Special Plate which is a heaping plate of grilled meat and chicken shawarma, shish kabab, shish tawook, kafta, fresh hommos, delicious middle eastern rice with bits of almond, and a tangy salad. It's more than enough food for two people, and there's always a whole meal of food for two left over. Plus, you can always take a bag (or two) of pita bread with you to enjoy at home.
