This used to be my favorite burger joint with THE BEST homemade onion rings in the world, to bad it was sold to some Asian people . I used to get a bacon avocado cheeseburger, onion rings and soda for about $8, now its $9.80 almost 10 dollars , now for the amount if onion rings and burger size I USED to get that would still be a fair price. This time the order came in a smaller plate, smaller burger and it was cold, cheese not melted and the onion rings appeared to be from a frozen bag. Before when I was heavier I couldn't finish it, this time it was no problem finishing everything . I understand when a new owner takes over a place, the prices might go up, but they shouldn't drop the quality of the food. Now I have to look for a new burger and onion ring spot. This is going to sound terrible but... If you're attending a funeral at Rose Hills Memorial Park and you're fiending for a bite to eat, Hamburger Express gets the job done. I was early for a memorial service and I was looking for a place within a few miles of Rose Hills to have breakfast. Scouring the annals of Yelp for restaurants in Whittier, I realized any place worth eating was far away. However, while driving down Workman Mill Road, I came across Hamburger Express. The first thing I saw on Yelp was Marie O's review on the zucchini and grilled cheese... I LOVE DINER-STYLE FRIED ZUCCHINI. Ended up getting the zucchini and the grilled cheese; the grilled cheese is average but the zucchini is indeed quite tasty... tons of crunch with a burst of hot zucchini while you chomp away. Rose Hills is a solemn place... Usually when you go there, you're not exactly ecstatic. AMAZING zucchini! The chili dog is great, their tacos are awesome but maybe ask for the salsa on the side. Hamburgers are tasty. Grilled cheese is pretty yummy & you can get a plate & substitute fries for zucchini! For breakfast the ham steak plate is amazing & lots of food, make sure to ask for the toast wrapped separately because they throw it in the box & he hear softens them. Downfall: The soda sucks. I used to eat here very frequently back when I was attending Rio Hondo College right around the corner a few years back and now I actually have to go out of my way to eat here but it is well worth it! My regular is a cheeseburger special.. comes with Fries, Onion rings, and a VERY tasty burger. You will not be let down. I can't say much of the rest of the menu... This used to be our go to spot every Sunday for breakfast. A couple years ago they changed owners. They have been declining ever since. The quality has slipped tremendously the prices have went WAY UP. And the portions have become way smaller. What a shame. It was a great place. It was always packed. Well, where do I start? I have been coming here at least once a week for 20 years. (Sat or Sun breakfast) and during the week for there AWESOME chili cheese fries. But sometime last Summer I noticed a large increase on there prices. Also there food is not the same quality and the servings are not nearly what they were. Now they are also charging for extra dressing for your salad when what they give you is not nearly enough. I have also noticed that the people running the place have changed. So I asked one of the longtime workers what's going on did this place change ownership? The person said yes. I said I can tell. There response was so can we. What a shame. This place is nothing like it was. used to be packed all the time. Now the place is empty. The drive-through used to be like in in and out line. Now you can drive right up no one in line. This place has to be one of the worst food experiences ever for me. This all started about 2 years ago my first attempt at a breakfast burrito and orange bang. The burrito was horrible in taste and was treated rudely in the drive thru. A few years passes by and I think maybe that was a one off moment. My elementary school use to give us coupons for free burger combos to reward good behavior (can u say, feeding the problem) . Great juicy neighborhood burgers. My friend Eddie recommend this place for breakfast. This place is right under the 60 and 605 Fwy, it has a truck stop feel to it but isn't. It's more like a cheap fast food diner. Ed raved about the egg sandwiches. So I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese and avocado. American cheese of course because this is the United States of America, damn it! And none of that foo foo stinky European crap, all between two pieces of lightly toasted Wonder bread. What was delivered was a sandwich that was so stuffed it had to be held together with a paper wrapper. Without it, I am quite sure the sandwich would've exploded and death would have ensued. You have to litterally hold it with both hands but in the end it doesn't really matter because the mess that is created is inevitable, it's a lost cause. So don't even try.
