Recommendation from a friend. Went late on a Saturday, 9:20 or so and they close at 9. Lights were on, and they took my order. Moments later, lights went off! Quickly I pull out my trusty yelp to check their hours and immediately feel terrible to keep these young folks working on a Saturday night. I apologized to the girl when I payed, they were kind and gracious. In light of this alone they should get 5 stars... but unfortunately I must dock some points regarding the sandwich. It's basically a chicken fried steak patty with a small amount of burger fixin's (lettuce, pickles, sauce, and allegedly onions). Patty is approximately 80% breading. Asked for sauce on side and did not get it so I can't attest to its quality. Again I hold that against them zero, as they were trying to close and so nice. However I did not enjoy the sandwich. This is one of our favorite places in Caldwell. Hamburger Connection is a hidden gem that not many know about unless they live in the area. The prices are cheap, the food is yummy, and their ice cream cones are AMAZING!!!! My family loves visiting when they come to visit me here in Caldwell and I love taking my son here to get ice cream. My only complaint is the wait time for food. We have sat in a line up of 8 cars that took easily 35-40 minutes before we got to the window. With a young child sitting in a car parked that long it tough and he gets impatient. I hope in the future Hamburger Connections can come up with a quicker way to serve their customers. Got a single and a double. The single burger meat tasted of actual nothingness and was drenched in the sauces but tasted extremely different than the double. The double had an off or extreme gaminess to it that even disturbed my husband and he eats red meat every day. It was really not good. My assumption is for the price of a meal, the meat is really poor quality. We also had horrible acid reflux after and my husband said his stomach was increasingly hurting. We both used digestive enzymes but that couldn't sway whatever it was they were using in the food. The fry's were good but mostly hard so half of the frys weren't eaten. It was actually such cheap quality and portion size that I'd rather spend more. The patties were also the SMALLEST, THINNEST patties I've ever had. We're from out of town and found this place on Yelp. It's solid place to get a quick eat. We had a burger, hot dog, fries and chocolate malts. The grilled and butterflied hot dog was quite good. This joint is not that far from my home. I've managed to get "hooked" on their banana shakes, which include a real banana. I treat myself about once a month. As someone else noted, the shakes are soooo thick that they are served with a spoon. A straw simply would not work. The last time there, I was hungry for more than a shake. I ordered fries. Just a damn good burger shack on a corner in Caldwell. Not much more to say than that. A co-worker recommended this place, saying he can never drive by without stopping in. Work takes me out here every once in a while, so I gave it a shot. The couple of times I've been here I only had the burgers and fries. Both are really good. This small hamburger joint is one you shouldn't miss when in Caldwell. My favorite things here in order of most fav to least. 1. Mile High milkshakes. -The banana one is excellent! 2. The Fry sauce. Yes this comes before the fries it is just that good! I must know your recipe!!! 3. The tots. Don't mess with the fries just go straight for the tots and make sure to add extra fry sauce (see #2) 4. Little home town drive thru! This is a must if your in the area. Little mom and pop place that is not the fastest in fast food. But all food is cooked to order. This place is quite good, but I'm just passing through there are a few things I wish I'd known: 1. You can't eat in. There are a couple picnic tables outside, but I don't know what people do in the winter. 2. They don't put ketchup and mustard on the burger by default, and it's not sitting out to add yourself. Ask for it when you order. 3. Regular "fry sauce" is weird enough (sorry, locals), but this isn't that and it's not even in the same family. I have no idea what's in there (mustard?). But that's what they give you with your fries. Along with salt, because they're unsalted, but no ketchup. 4. The mile high comes are not named for the elevation of the locale, but how freaking high they pile ice cream on. I watched someone eat a small cone, which was a feat of dexterity and speed; I can't even imagine the large cone. (I had a shake, which was excellent and not too big. Been going to the Hamburger Connection for over 20 years. And I had to drive over 900 miles from Phoenix to visit them this time. The only thing that changed was that the fry sauce now comes in little packets. Love their mile high shakes, hot dogs, burgers, tater tots and more. This burger joint is like a diamond in the rough. A little dumpy as far as appearance but I promise it's all business on the inside. The unique fry sauce is something you'd better try before you die! I believe it's a combo of reg. fry sauce with a smoked bbq flavor and a hint of mustard? You can't go wrong with the connection special! All American cheeseburger with the special fry sauce.
