I've used HQ Oil for years and they've always been reliable, priced right, with great customer service. I should have taken the time to give them a positive review years ago but I'm doing it now because they just AMAZED ME!! I realized my oil supply was very low, something HQ warned me to not happen. It was completely my fault, as they offered months ago to come deliver oil but I thought it could wait. In a panic I emailed them at 10:00pm that I needed a delivery, I got a reply from Paul at 5:00 a.m. the very next morning and my tank was filled by 8:00 a.m. that day!!! I have never been more thrilled with customer service and highly recommend them!!! THANKS HQ!!! read more

Do not walk away - run!! Non-responsive, and rude snd disrespectful when you do finally get them. Took a 2-week project and forced it to 2 months with their attitude and do-nothing ethos. Will never try to engage them again. Not sure if it got worse as a result of being purchased but they will absolutely waste your time. Find an alternative for their services. read more

At the end of the year and on a tight budget coming out of the holidays I opted not to renew my contract due to the drastic price increase. Of course two months later I had an issue with my boiler. I contacted HQ to inquire about a service call and the rep stated I would be charged an hourly rate because I did not have a contract, which I understood. She then asked where I was receiving my oil from now which I did not disclose because I was inquiring about a service call, not oil pricing/ delivery. She then told me to go somewhere else for service before promptly ending the call. I was going to gladly pay for the service tech to come fix my boiler but instead I was told to go somewhere else. Poor business practice. Poor customer service. Poor customer relations. I ultimately would have signed a new contract and opted for automatic oil delivery because I need it but I will take the reps advise and go somewhere else. We have lived in Armonk for 8 years and always have used HQ for our propane ever since the builder used them to fill the tank when he was done building our house. The main reason why I'm writing a review now is due to their service. Even though our boiler is just 8 years old we've had issues with it almost every year. Last year a local HVAC repairman came out and changed the pilot light and coil feeding it, took him 30 min tops and charged me $480!! I was pretty annoyed. The pilot wouldn't start again this year, I tried it myself but no propane was flowing. I called HQ and asked if they did service, they said yes and promptly sent a technician out. He arrived early and even though I messed up scheduling and wasn't home, he waited outside for 20 min. He fixed the issue within an hour and the cost was 1/4 of the local repairman!! Use these guys for your service needs, highly recommend it. read more

Last year they raised our rates without telling us. The balance due on our balanced billing (which they have had us as a customer for several years, so they know how much we consume) was outrageous. The only thing they did was allow us time to pay it off. After lengthy discussion they took no responsibility for raising the rates without telling us nor that they icalculated our balanced billing. No explanation for how the balance due was so high while they set the balanced billing budget. Recently we fell behind two months in our payment and called for an oil fill when the tank was below 1/4 and was told no, not while the account is in arrears. We asked if we paid one of the two months would they deliver oil. The customer service rep said no AFTER PUTTING MY WIFE ON HOLD AND SPEAKING WITH SOMEONE. Ok. Fine. Then I proceed to find someone who will do a COD oil delivery so my tank doesn't run dry. About an hour later Frank the manager calls me back and says "we can take a one month payment to be able to deliver!" I informed him his customer service rep already said no and I had to get oil elsewhere. He leaves me a voicemail 10 minutes later that if I get oil elsewhere they will void my service contract. I call back for clarification and get Nicole on the phone (the owner). She proceeds to tell me I should have gone over the customer service reps head and spoken to her or Frank, I had done it before why not now? That's what she said, like it's my friggin job! Who did the rep talk to that told him no? The same person I was expected to call? She said they would have sold me a COD delivery... WHY DIDNT THE REP TELL ME THAT!! I'll tell you why, because their customer service is an awful pile of steaming crap. Oil is the same everywhere buy from someone else. read more

In working with Halstead Quinn for less than 18 months, we've had three terrible experiences. We had contracts with HQ for both oil and propane delivery, and we had a service contract for our boiler. The first issue we had come up was that our steam radiators starting spitting large amounts of water onto our hardwood floors. We called HQ, explained the problem, and they said that they would send out a technician. A technician showed up two days later, and as soon as he heard what the issue was, he responded that he doesn't work on steam radiators, and no one else in the company does either. The person who made the appointment had heard the same exact description of the issue. If they don't work with steam radiators, they shouldn't have implied they do and made an appointment. The second poor experience was that they allowed our oil tank to run out just prior to a weekend where we were planning to travel. They were supposed to be refilling the tank when appropriate, and we had been out of the house a good bit during the period in question. So we had been using less oil than normal, and they still let the tank run dry. They re-filled the tank just before we left, but because the burner had run dry, they needed to send out a technician while we were traveling to fix something on the burner. Thankfully, they did have someone come out. But given our other experiences, we assumed we were returning from the trip to a house without heat. The third experience was by far the most frustrating and expensive (for us) mistake on their part. We have propane heat for a cottage that wasn't being used. They allowed the propane tank to run empty, which meant that the pilot lights went out, and when they re-filled the tank, with no pilot light, the furnace wasn't functioning. The temperature dropped, which froze and burst a pipe in the crawl space. We then needed to have extensive and expensive mold remediation work done in the crawl space. read more

I would not recommend you do business with Halstead Quinn under ANY circumstances. I purchased a house where HQ provided propane service - there was one 60-gallon tank rented from the company and three 120-gallon tanks that I OWN that they fill. After researching prices and reviews, I decided to switch companies (to Hoffman Energy, who I highly recommend). After the new company came to install their own 60-gallon tank, they contacted Halstead to come remove their rental tank, which was moved (for their convenience) to the front yard of my house from its original location in the woods and down a hill. After three weeks (and as many phone calls), Halstead finally made an appointment to remove their tank. Unbeknownst to me, they also removed the three (full) 120-gallon tanks from my property without my permission. When my generator initiated its automatic weekly test, it failed and indicated a fault. I called a generator company, only to find out that there was no propane supply to the generator. It quickly became clear what had happened and when I contacted Halstead, the woman in the service department became flustered and transferred me to a manager, Jerry. Jerry was very friendly and helped to the greatest extent he could. He arranged for my tanks to be returned the following Saturday morning. When they arrived, two were full, one was empty and the driver refused to install the tanks unless I clear-cut the shrubs in my yard so he could have easy access. They had no issues taking the tanks out with a crane but didn't want to spend the money to send the same truck back. When I refused, he took the tanks back to Halstead to be emptied so they were more manageable (keep in mind that they managed to remove the tanks when they were full). The empty tanks were returned the following Monday and filled on Tuesday. They had to drag them around the yard because they still didn't send the lift. I thought this nightmare was finally over - the only thing I was waiting for was a check for the propane that was rightfully taken in the 60-gal tank and the reimbursement for the bill from the generator company (which Jerry assured me would not be a problem). Unfortunately, after over a week of non-response, Jerry had to escalate the matter to someone named Glenn who is one of the rudest, most condescending people I've had the displeasure of speaking with. When Glenn finally called, he told me he was calculating the amount I owed Halstead for additional propane his driver accidentally delivered to my house when he filled the tanks because "he thinks I would want to pay for a service I received." He also told me that I would be charged over $80 for the pick up of the 60-gal tank. When I made it clear that I did not intend to pay him for anything, that he did not provide a "service" to me but in fact stole my property, his next ploy was to demand closing documents from the sale of my house to prove I was the owner of the propane that he had no problem removing in the first place. This nonsense started June 7 2013 when Halstead took my property and finished in mid-August when I finally received my payment in full. But based on their underhanded business practices, rude management and overall incompetence, I cannot recommend anyone allow Halstead Quinn to work on their property. read more

I've been with Halstead Quinn [ Almeida Oil ] for the last 15 years or so, and without question have to say they have stood the test of time for overall reliability, dependability, and fair pricing. Besides buying oil, which has always been faithfully delivered within days of my calls, I've also have my oil burner serviced annually and recently installed a new indirect hot water heater system. The service team is punctual, professional, cordial, and always responds promptly for the occasional call backs. All work is completely explained and there are never any nasty surprises. I'd especially like to thank Lori in the office who always does such an amazing job handling any issue or question, no matter how small, that comes her way. read more

I switched to Halstead last summer from another company that was overcharging me for oil and propane. They've been very professional and courteous. What I was most impressed by was their help last week. I am in the process of moving. They called confirming a scheduled delivery for oil. I turned it down as I thought I would have enough oil until I moved and let them know that. Of course, I ran out of oil early Thursday am. I called to see if they could deliver oil and the gentlemen told me they would try to fit me in for that day. After I hung up, I was concerned about my pipes freezing and called back for advice on what to do. The gentleman answered and said no need to worry. They would make the delivery today. They also sent out a service tech to get any air out of the system. I got home from work to a nice warm house. Even though they knew I would not be a customer for much longer, they made sure I got what I needed. Thank you! read more

The absolute worst utility company I have EVER DEALT WITH. I do NOT have an account with this company, and I recommend locals use Suburban or Paracco as I do use them.. This company left a note on my door saying that I missed an appointment. I called to let them know they probably had the wrong house and wanted to speak to the neighbors who just moved in across the street. I did this as a helpful neighbor. They informed me they delivered gas to me and since then created an account for me and continually send me invoices for the gas I did not ask for and for which they only would have known about if I had been so kind as to inform them on my neighbors behalf. I spoke several times to agents I said I would not pay. The final manager not sure her name called me and was harassing me on the phone because she said it was my fault I did not return a phone call of hers. I was trying to watch my 1 and 4 yr old at the time as I told her and she kept me on the phone despite me asking her to just tell me was this resolved with a zero $ balance or would they keep sending bills. She wouldn't answer me but kept asking if I used the product and demanding the names of who I had spoken with- I said I don't know who I spoke with at a company I don't even have an account with. She told me I was yelling which I was not, but at the end after shaking on the phone with this rude nasty woman blaming ME for their error I did say send me the bill with an two word expletive. HQ has been supplying propane to our house for 16 years, and oil for the last five. they also service our A/C, oil furnace and water heater. their service has been uniformly excellent: on time, reliable, competent, and friendly. after hurricane sandy they were unusually helpful in delivering propane to fuel our generators. when blizzard conditions shut down traffic on our ridiculously difficult driveway, they hand-delivered canisters of propane to our property. jerry -- the service manager -- is fantastic. another plus: their phone menu is short and to the point. you don't spend 10 minutes navigating a nested series of questions, and you're almost never placed on hold. just to note: we haven't experienced any of the problems reported by other reviewers. read more

In the aftermath of hurricane Sandy we were running off of our neighbor's generator. He was running out of propane for his generator. We have been customers of HQ for years, we called them, told them the situation. At first, they said, sorry, nothing they can do right now, as everyone is in need of propane. We explained that our infant son had just been released from the hospital, had asthma and needed his nebulizer treatments, which run on electric which we were borrowing from our neighbor. They delivered right to our neighbor's generator! They were awesome! That was my MAJOR experience, however all other small service calls, they were just wonderful as well-- they were there when I got a new stove, they replaced my old ugly tank w/ one phone call, just great easy customer service! read more
