Been a customer OVER 20 yrs in Newtown. I have 1 tank for dryer and stovetop, another underground tank for heated pool. We ran out of gas and when I returned home on Saturday am wife explained the problem. Determined out. Puzzled me because I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ON AUTO DELIVERY FOR HOUSE BUT ON WILL CALL ON POOL TANK. Called answering service and explained TANK EMPTY. DAMN driver calls and gets into with me saying HIS paperwork says I am a will call customer so basically I'M SCREWED and they won't come out if it's only stove dryer appliances on weekend. Once again, I am on the phone with Leahys to get the fire logs that I bought from them operating. It's been approximately two months,, they have tried twice and the repairman was here yesterday and they don't work again. Upon calling, I'm told that they can get back to me on New Year's Eve. So much for having the fire during Christmas. Like another person said, this is why people switch companies. If you can't service your own products, don't sell them. read more

I have been using them for years and it's time to find a new company. I can't remember a single year going by that I did not have an issue. 3 our of 4 years they let my tank run empty. Then they take there time to call you back and refill. They over charge for everything and honestly act like they are doing you a favor to fill your tank: I do want to say that they techs and the delivery guys are nice and try to help. Horrible. They shut our propane tank off during the covid19 crisis and didn't even bother to knock on our door to warn us. We recently moved to this property I called customer service to transfer the account over and they ran my credit which is unheard of. Their saving grace is that they sent a mechanic over to turn us back on. Unfortunately the mechanic tried to be intimidating since he saw the opportunity to do so since I'm a younger woman home alone. All I can say is that if the propane wasn't turned back on today I would've reported them to the public service commission. read more

These people have been great! They are always super fast to respond to an unexpected delivery, but I became a loyal customer during our last long power outage. I have a backup generator, but the outage was so long that we ran out of propane. I called the company that I had used for over 20 years and the answer they gave me was "2 weeks". Leahy's had a rep out to our place the next morning. They did run our credit, as I would expect any sane business would do to be sure they will get paid! The truck was in my driveway by 8 am the next morning and my generator was humming away. They also handled a change over of some old tanks quickly and for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend them for reliability. Did I mention this all happened on a weekend, when most businesses don't even answer their calls? read more

I am beyond disappointed with how they treat their customers. At first I thought they were a nice trustworthy company turns out all they wanted was my money. Customer beware they will tell you one thing and do another right behind your back where when you call to resolve the issue. They think because they've been in business a hundred years I can treat people however they want and it won't affect their business but seeing how poorly they are reviewed on Yelp and and other sites paint a different picture we'll see how they react when I file a Better Business Bureau complaint. read more

They have provided excellent service. Always get a pleasant and helpful person that answers the phone. Been using Leahy's for several years now without complaint. Had an issue with our tank, when we had extremely cold temps for days. They sent a tech out quickly; He was knowledgeable and reasonable. Fixed the problem quickly and was extremely pleasant. I'm not sure this company understands how doorbell cameras work. They can catch you when you're spewing offense nonsense about reliable customers, like me who always pays the bills on time. That's the problem with Leahy's. There was a time when this company was one of the gold standard ones in the area. Not so much anymore. And that is why when they screwed up maintenance of my furnace during the Covid crisis, I switched over to Reliant. Not only were they able to help me built a beautiful new furnace from scratch, and discard the faulty relic from Leahy's, but they worked14 hours in one day to get it done and undo all of the damage caused by Leahy's. Theirs caused massive flooding and pipe damage in my basement after three cleaning and maintenance calls in less than 18 months. When Leahy's was making an oil delivery, I heard one delivery guys bad mouthing me as a customer to the other for my no trespassing signs past a certain point. Call me crazy but I don't like to disturb my neighbors with my dogs barking. Had the guy just respected the sign, it would not have caused such a commotion. Plus, and most importantly, had absolutely nothing to do with him delivering my oil or interfering with his responsibilities. My neighbor ended up texting me at work and I looked at my doorbell cam. Sure enough, this guy's loud running commentary, running his mouth, was unbelievable and purposeless. I don't think they understand that doorbell cameras not only pick up sights but sounds. I guess I'm going to be in the market for looking for more appreciative oil company. They may think they're a big-time player in Danbury, but the truth is there's so much competition now. So I guess they will not only be the company that formerly serviced my furnace but the company that equally sucks at any kind of professionalism or customer service. Add to that, they also bent my fence when delivering to my propane tank. Do they not understand how fence handles work either? Simply lift them up and they slide to the side. It's not rocket science but consider the source. Also, during a propane leak, an after hours emergency they say they cover, not only did they take over six hours to get there, they tried to convince me that I didn't know what I was talking about. Turns out there were two, count them- TWO, propane leaks and the guy says it was a good thing I called or the house could've blown up along with half the neighborhood. Two stars is generous. It should be one but their prices aren't terrible! Plus, save additional money by not paying for their mistakes. read more

My husband and I decided to use Leahy's because there was a propane tank already installed in our home when we purchased. I immediately set up an account with them when we closed on our house. About a month later. I received a knock on the door and a serviceman telling me they were disconnecting our tank because I didn't have an account. I called the office and they said I did not have an account but I hadn't authorized direct debit payment and that I hadn't paid our first bill. The first bill was for the full tank when we moved in, which had been filled when the old owners still owned the house. I assumed it was a miscommunication and set up direct debit. Now two months later, they came to the house and disconnected the tank saying I didn't have an account. When I called the office, there were no issues with my account, it was paid in full, and I was told it was an office error. I was then told that no one would be able to come and turn back on my tank leaving me with no propane and no way to cook dinner for 18 hours. I now realIze the first time wasn't a miscommunication, but incompetence. I'm disgusted that they left me with no stove for 18 hours and barely an apology for the inconvenience. I only stayed with Leahy's because it seemed more convenient, but this is unacceptable. read more

Yesterday, our tankless water heater, installed by Leahy's in 2011, stopped providing hot water. We called Leahy's, only to have them refuse to service it because we don't get our propane from them. The reason for this is that when we went to changeover our stove & generator to propane, the sales rep they sent out wanted to punch a hole in the downstairs ceiling to get to the stove above, proposed a convoluted piping system, and told us we had to buy 3 tanks at $3,000 a pop, plus installation costs, which did not include repairing the bathroom ceiling. Also, the sales person was a insufferably rude, refusing to acknowledge me when I came out to join my husband in the discussion, forcing me to stick my hand out & advise him that I was the other homeowner. He continued to refuse to acknowledge me throughout the conversation. I was, needless to say, livid. When he left, I turned to my husband & told him, "Those people don't get any of our money." read more

Lots of problems dealing with customer service over the phone. They kept billing me twice every month, then issuing me a credit. Went on for three months, no one seemed to be able to solve this earth shattering problem. Could not get proper billing in order until i physically went to their office. Very poor Customer Service. As a potential new customer who just purchased a house previously provided by Leahy's propane, nothing was ever explained to me about transferring service from the old owner. I had assumed we paid for the propane when we closed on the house. That's fine if we didn't, just kindly explain how it works in CT. The last call I received when I still hadn't established an account, was if I don't do it by 5pm they will lock my tank. We were going to keep them because it was easier, but after being bullied into setting up a new account or no gas for you, I told them to take their tank away. When I was asked to call back to confirm my message I gave to their pleasant driver who locked our tank, the woman on the phone never even cared to ask why I wanted the tank removed. Apparently they can care less about losing customers. At the highest price per gallon at $5.99, I'd rather do business with another company with prices are much lower and with better Customer Service. Grilled cheese in the oven for lunch never tasted so good. read more

I want to commend Leahy's for their excellent customer service. Recently purchased a standby generator that I want to run on propane. We already had an account with Leahy's for our fireplace so I called them to fuel the generator. They were very helpful in helping me figure out where to put the tanks (1 large 100 gallon tanks). Purchased two refurbished tanks and had them place them and hook the up to the generator. They took care of the permit process and did an excellent job on the installation. When I tried to run the generator it ran for a few seconds and shut down. Seemed like it wasn't getting enough gas. Called them back and they were out the same day to check pressure and adjust. Turns out there was also a loose wire on the controller which they fixed. Above and beyond for sure. Highly recommend them for all your fuel needs. read more

I purchased my home in New Fairfield, CT just over a year ago. I am currently in the process of becoming a licensed foster parent for the State and an inspection of my gas fireplace is required. The town of New Fairfield, understandably will not complete an inspection unless a permit was previously completed. The fireplace in this home was installed in 2016. While I was not involved in that installation project, I knew the previous owners had completed all the required steps regarding town permits. Unfortunately, no permit could be found for the fireplace. After several phone calls with different places, in an attempt to track down this permit, I was lucky enough to get connected to Dan, who is a salesman at Leahey's. Dan discovered there had been a permit pulled back in 2016, but unfortunately, the town somehow lost it. I am not a current customer of Leahy's, but Dan went out of his way, above and beyond anything I could/would expect to resolve the issue. Dan was able to show that a permit had been obtained and quickly resolved it with the town inspectors office. Everything worked out great, but without the assistance of this kind and helpful individual, I'm really not sure what the outcome would've been. People like Dan, are the reason that people like me will never forget. This type of customer service and commitment speaks volumes of a company. We've used them for oil in the past. Good group of guys. friendly and usually on time.

These guys are jerks. They invoiced us for 92 pounds of propane which I do not believe was actually delivered. Paid the bill and less than 3 weeks later the propane ran out. I only use propane for a cooktop and a firebox. No way could 92 pounds of propane have been consumed that quickly. Called them on Sunday because nothing works and Mike advised me that the thieves would charge me $230 for a non-essential delivery of the propane I had paid for but which may not have been delivered. Why should we have to pay them for not doing their job (either not delivering or, at the very least, checking our tank to see if we needed propane). Running out of propane twice in a month? Never happened in 25 years with our prior supplier. Either they are inept or lying. read more

Leahy's installed propane in my new (to me) condo. They installed an instant hot water heater and a direct vent wall furnace. They also installed my cooking range and fireplace log set. The initial installation included two tanks and the piping for all the fixtures. The installers were very knowledgable, professional and efficient. They were very polite and cleaned up the work area when they were done. They returned to do the final installation of the appliances when the renovation was ready. Everyone from the installers, salesman, delivery driver and customer support were a pleasure to deal with. All my other contractors (electrician, plumber, inspector) were also impressed with how good a job they did on every aspect of the job. They did the job right and I am now living comfortably without fear of the cost of electricity. read more
