This was my first time ever trying Halo burger. My boyfriend and I sat in and ate for a little over half an hour. The food was amazing, the cashier kind, but the manager with long grey hair completely ruined the vibe. All I could hear was her managing the girls in a demeaning and demanding way. She was loud, obnoxious, and rude to her workers. I was going to let her know kindly she can be heard and should think of how she treats people but then a family came in and I decided to leave it be. In my work experience, a nice and motivating manager willing to teach goes a LONG way in returning work ethic/effort. Be nicer to your crew! You couldn't do it without them. read more

The dining area was clean, however, I'm not a fan of the available seating, not too comfortable. The counter person was friendly as she took our order. After ordering you pick up your food at a second counter. The burgers were cooked fresh and were tasty but I would tell them to hold the tomato, it was really anemic and tasteless. Hello Halo! Great place - wish they were in Ohio. Menu had so many cool things. Even sell shirts & hats. Double burger was great & actually looked like the menu. Cheese curds were a nice surprise. The tots were perfect & they got the ole fashion fried apple pies like McDs used to have in the 90s before switching to baked. Nice staff on both ends. Got to sit outside & eat too. I am writing this review because I had the worse experience a few mins ago at this establishment. The food is fresh which a really good. The ambiance could use a touch up outdated. Now to the service if I could I would fire Andrew who was working the drive thru window. He was so rude. I said I wanted a cheeseburger with just the condiments.. and when I proceeded to tell him which ones.. he said.. I know what condiments are. Then proceeded to get more nasty with me.. All hits, NO MISSES! It's been some years since I've had l Halo Burger but it was well worth the wait. I ordered the new Spicy crispy chicken sandwich and it did NOT disappoint. I added onions because that's just what I do. The crispy chicken filet was not just a regular chicken breast tossed in sauce. It was more of a spicy seasoned dry rub. Not too much heat for me. I was able to snag a few of my son's cheese curds which were a hit. They didn't need the marinara sauce, however, I indulged. I also ordered a Hef (beer) since we dined in. Speaking of dining in, the ambiance gave an old mid-Michigan feel and with a time capsule type character. For those who grew up in the area, you'll truly appreciate the vintage aesthetics. For those new to the area, the history can be absorbed during your time there. Halo Burger is a can't miss for great food and nostalgic environment. Fed four people for under $45. read more

I haven't been to Halo Burger (any location) in years, but when I found out me and my gf were going to Frankenmuth I knew I HAD to plan my stay around a visit to Halo. We decided to order and eat inside (I NEVER do that at fast food joints), and even though we immediately took note of a sign stating wait times are long, please be patient, the wait for our food was a bit too much, especially when they were not busy and we only ordered two burgers, two fries and an onion ring. The gentleman at the counter was nice enough though, so that was cool. While we waited I wanted to get some souvenir t-shirts, but alas, they were out of the size I require. That really sucked, bc I really wanted one of their tees (and hat). The double QP I ordered was good, but if I'm being honest with myself (and all of you), it was not as good as I remember a Halo burger being at the location in Troy, MI (before it closed). It was a let down, but I still smashed it with reckless abandon for my arteries. I will likely come again when I'm in the area, but in the future I wouldn't make it part of my agenda; but rather, if I have time and I'm hungry I'll go, but I won't make it a priority. read more

I love Halo Burger, and the chain is a proud Flint (and Genessee county) legacy and tradition. Let this review not be confused with a review of the chain, just this franchise. It's not good. It's never good. It's the north-most QP, so we often stop through when heading North/South, as it's conveniently located off I-75. That's all that's convenient about it. Waits are often in excess of half an hour, sometimes even just to order. I've consistently had longer waits, more erred orders, and lousy customer service here than any other restaurant worldwide. I would only stop here out of convenience and pending I wasn't in a rush. It does not do credit to the Halo Burger name. read more

Great fast food joint that I don't feel guilty about splurging on. I always try to make a stop when I am heading north, or coming back home. I've always ordered chicken (love those Dino nuggies!) but recently tried the olive burger. It was fantastic and the olives give it a little bit of an extra savory/salty edge. The staff is always pleasant, even when they have to deal with rude customers, which I saw during my last stop here. I wish there were locations closer to my home, so it's always a special treat getting a chance to indulge on yummy halo burger items. QP burger was juicy, toppings seemed fresh, and drive through line was actually moving quickly. I tried the onion "petals" (basically deep fried onion strips) and they were fantastic. They're a limited time item and probably won't be here when I come this way again, but I'll certainly try the onion rings. One disappointment was not being able to get coffee--the machine was down, I was told. Chalk that up to unlucky timing, I guess. No napkins came in the bag with my food (and since the dining room was closed due to COVID) I couldn't run in and grab a few. I have been going to Halo Burger for decades. But I am done. Ever since they sold the franchise the quality has been going downhill. Even though the new owners said they wouldn't change anything. I tried some of their Halopenos, which thought were poppers. They weren't, they were deep fried batter with piece of jalapenos in them. They were so salty and gross I through them away. Also ever since the new owners took over it's like they forgot their number one seller the "supreme deluxe with olives" when you order it, it's like they have never heard of it. Yay, Halo Burger! All of the locations by me had closed, so I was pleased to see one up in Birch Run on Friday when we were making our way up to Traverse City. I have Crohn's and we still had like 3 hours in our drive, so I tried to get what would least upset my stomach ... I got a root beer, regular burger, and their fries. Everything was tasty, and they were ready quickly. Friends got some of the same things, I think another one did their bacon burger that was the $5 special this month ($5 combo, which is a great deal). I've had their Boston Coolers and onion rings in the past and those were fantastic, too. They also had cheese curds which surprised me (are they trying to be like Culvers now?) as well as a beer menu. Bathrooms were clean, as well. Well, I was going to give this place 4 stars, but the manager just treated someone whose order was missing something, quite curtly. The young man at the register has been nothing but courteous and patient. So, anyway.... I right off love the logo--I adore cows! Our food was good. Reminded me of Five Guys. Hubby got the Halopeño and was happy that it was actually spicy when most "spicy" fast food simply isn't very. Food was disgusting and meat was dry as a bone. The service was fair, but hope that you don't need a fork or ketchup or anything else that may have run out from the self service bar. The staff will "be right with you", someday. The store floor was sticky and the mat in front of the self service station for soda pop was sopping wet with "I don't know what". My feet sunk into the mat and afterwards they stuck to the sticky floor and even more. Then to top things off, I was bit by a spider in my leg. I am a lifelong Halo Burger customer, but will not be returning to the Birch Run location again. Went through the drive thru for an olive burger and a cream ale, two of my favorites at Halo Burger. My "olive burger" was served with no olives, only the cheese, mayo and lettuce I requested. The cream ale I was given was actually a Vernors with no cream. I noticed the drink didn't look right when it was handed out the window, and actually asked the lady if it was a cream ale, which she rudely assured me it was. Sadly, the problems weren't discovered until I was a couple of miles down the road. This is the second or third time my order has been fouled up at this Halo Burger, and it will be the last. read more

It is a rare occurrence for fast-food to achieve greatness. However, the local chain of Halo-Burger, a Flint tradition originating back in 1923, has continued this tradition for years. Originally called Kewpee, the company served its first hamburger out of a "boxcar" style wagon on Harrison Street in Downtown Flint. Now with a handful of locations throughout the area, they are a must whenever I find myself in the area. You cannot go wrong with any menu options, but if in doubt, try a simple burger with the works and you will not be disappointed. My daughter loves the Koegel hot dogs they serve. And sides (including cheese curds, fresh cut fries, and more) are always great. And for dessert, if your meal has not already left you completely stuffed, they offer a great Boston Cooler (made, of course, with Detroit's own Vernor's Ginger Ale) and a tasty selection of milkshakes. My only regret is that there is not a location closer to my home in west Michigan... Do yourself a favor and check it out. read more

Went thru the drive thru in a good mood and politely asked if I could get a receipt. She snapped, "It's in the bag" and turned around to talk to someone. I looked in the bag and it wasn't in there. My wife said, "she'll be back, she's missing your milkshake." The girl came back, puzzled. "What's your problem?" "I'm missing my milkshake." She went to her computer. "Did you pay for it? She returned soon and shoved it out the window but wouldn't look at me. I thanked her (because my wife told me to remain pleasant.). Maybe she was having a bad day. I took three sips (no straw) and my chocolate shake was only that on top. The bottom 80% or more was straight vanilla. No attempt to mix it, just cover the top, I guess. This used to be the "go-to" burger chain in the mid Michigan area for about 90 years. Everything is locally sourced and usually made fresh as it's ordered. That changed when the Thomas family sold the chain a few years ago. The service today was excellent, which I expected as I was the only customer. Little ol' me in a dining room with seating for 148 people that was last updated in the 1990's and last cleaned??? The dining room had yellow "Wet Floor" signs next to food laying on the floor that had been there awhile. The highlight of the meal is the hand made burger patty piled high with olives. A Haloburger hamburger patty tastes better than what you'll get from any other burger chain, that's why we come here. The lowlights of the meal was a slice of cheese as thick as a sheet of paper (with about as much taste), and a toasted bun top that was cold and WET down the middle on the top of the bun. Always one to have to try out a chain I have not heard of and being in Birch Run for some Outlet Shopping, this was the only dining option I had never seen before. The menu is limited to Burger, Chicken Sandwhich or Fish, Fries or rings. Simple enough but in my opinion expensive. The decor and food Original since 1920's, the prices clearly not. We paid almost $5 for a tiny kickin chicken sandwhich, same for the deep fried chicken and $7 for a burger with bacon. All not large in size, fine since we were not too hungry and really just wanted to give Halo a try, but $20 for 3 burgers (no drinks or sides) from a run down fast food chain is steep. The burger patty reminded me of McDonalds, the kickin chicken had a nice spicy flavor to it but the "meat" on both chicken ones very artificial and processed. Halo Burger's branding really isn't doing them any favors. With their low prices, made-fresh-to-order burgers, and slightly hipster options like tater tots, black-bean burgers, and dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, they could easily attract a foaming-at-the-mouth hipster cult following a la In-and-Out or Dick's. But when my husband and I stopped in this afternoon for our first time, the few other patrons appeared to be tired, grouchy retirees. Not exactly the kind of crowd likely to buy up dozens of their retro-ish branded t-shirts. I have to admit, I was reluctant to pull in here. From the outside, this location looks like a run-down Hardee's, and from the inside, it reminds me of Dairy Queen circa 1999. Not my preferred fast food stops then or now. But when our food came out (I stopped into the bathroom while my husband ordered, so I didn't notice the cooks frying fresh burgers just behind the counter.), I was pleasantly surprised! My husband got the half-pound double QP burger with fries and a strawberry shake. If you made a scale of quality fast food burgers where Burger King was 0 and Five Guy's was 10, Wendy's would be like an 7 and the double QP burger would be like an 8. The tots were standard deep-fried goodness, and the bonus fry that got accidentally included in their container was actually a lot better than the menu pictures. The milkshake was good. My black bean burger was flavorful, but the only toppings it came with were lettuce, a sad tomato slice, and a smear of mayonnaise. They get points for including a vegetarian sandwich option that isn't just grilled cheese, but if I'm looking for a veggie burger on the go, I still prefer the Morning Starr patties at Burger King. The "Halopenios" were easily the low part of our meal. I liked them in theory, and I appreciated that they had some heat, but the breading was less crispy than a chicken McNugget on the outside and sad, soggy mush on the inside. If they came standard with a side of quality ranch, that could cover a wide range of sins, but honestly the tots are a better choice. Put your ranch on those instead. read more

Service is HORRIBLE. How can you wait 40 minutes in a "fast" food drive thru!! It's insane. If you are not able to provide better service, shut the store down and get it figured out. Just terrible. Stopped here on the way to go to nature center and I will say I wasn't impressed at all. Tell me what it was was just a below average fast food chain and nothing stood out to me. The food quality to me was even less below McDonald's. I went with just a grilled chicken sandwich and it felt like rubber in my mouth. The tater tot's were OK but nothing special.
