Selection is like a 4.8. Would be a 5 but there are a couple of favorites of mine that Meijer or Kroger will carry that they don't (dragons milk white, death by coconut, Sam Adam's cold snap). Other than that, if you want an upscale bottle, they will probably have it. Pricey though. Staff I would seriously give a 1 Star. We joke about how everything they don't have they tell you is "seasonal" or doesn't exist [eye roll]. Their accuracy rating is about 20%. We just checked out with a $140 tab and the guy never said hello, how are you tonight or even thank you, have a good night. Very nice selection of Michigan wines, but since I'm only 22 it seemed as if I didn't belong there with the staff. (I even had a customer laugh that I looked too young to be in there which made me feel uncomfortable). In my past time I enjoy visiting wineries located up near Traverse City; therefore, I feel I'm a novice but I have some experience with wine. I recommend young customers to just go to Meijers. Next time I'm going to probably go somewhere else to find my Michigan wines (probably somewhere I feel my business is more welcome). read more

This is the best place to get obscure beer and wine. They have all sorts of good stuff, and some of the staff is very knowledgeable on what stuff is good. They also have just about every type of major liquor ever made. They have 1/5 (or is it 1/8?) barrels that are a perfect size for small parties. Plus you can get them in great flavors. read more

I feel like a kid in a candy store here! Of course they carry big brands but they also have many interesting spirits, ciders, and beers that are harder to find. All the staff that I've encountered have been helpful and at least polite if not friendly, and they've been able to find most of what I'm after. Because I don't live in Michigan I'm always curious about local and especially seasonal products, which are mostly stocked in the same section or else labeled. Stopped by here with the GF, her brother, and her dad to pick up some wine and liquor for Xmas Eve festivities. Met Jeff, the proprieter, who was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about his craft. Spoke with him a bit about the various whiskies and bourbons he had in stock. And for Saginaw, MI - I was frankly surprised at the variety! I imagine you would be hard pressed to find a better store in a few hundred mile radius. I picked up a 12 year Glenlivet Gift Set (2 whiskey snifters included) for the GF's dad as an introduction to an aged single malt scotch. And in turn, I received 12 year Yamazaki - score! We also picked up some Moscato and Ice Wine for the GF's mom. Be sure to stop on by for all your tipple needs - the staff is friendly and courteous - they're more than willing to help! I went to Oppermann's recently for the first and only time. A friend and I entered the store, walked up and down every aisle, and stopped at the whiskey and bourbon display near the cash register and browsed for a particular bottle of whiskey. We were never greeted by an employee and never asked if we needed help although we did see them interacting with the two other customers in the store. When we couldn't find what we needed and began to exit the store, one of the three employees at the registers asked if we were ok. She didn't ask if we needed help, just if we were ok. I told her what I was looking for and she said it was out of stock. She didn't say if more would be arriving soon or if she could order it for me. I felt like I was an unwelcome inconvenience. Stopped here while visiting family in the area. Staff was super friendly and helpful finding some local beers to bring back home. The owner was suggesting beers to put in a mix six from the singles cooler and when he realized a good local brew wasn't in there, he grabbed a six pack off the shelf and pulled one out so I could add it to my mix six. Ooh, this is a fun store! A great selection of wines, in all price ranges; if you're going to do an informal wine tasting with friends, this is the place to stock up. Oppermann's Cork 'N' Ale is a must stop before any party or special occassion! They have the best selection of fine wines and hard to find beers in Saginaw. If you're looking for a certain beer, they probably have it, if not the knowledgable staff will help you something very similar. They have a huge selection of beer and liquor they pretty much have any beer you could ever want as well as all the wine and liquor you could ever drink in your lifetime and if you're a cigar fan they have a huge walk-in humidor. OMG!! Am I glad this place exist, everytime I go to Cork-n-Ale and tell them my taste in wines they have never failed me since they opened. And I'm slightly open minded in trying different wines, but they have always come through every time. What's great is they can keep track of the wines you buy and love and enter them into the computer..that way your friends know what gifts to buy you around happy occasions. I stopped by on Friday night to pick up a bottle of wine. With such a huge selection of California cabernets, I asked the three people working if they had any suggestions. Sadly, they did not. They were rather disinterested and a little bothered that I would ask such a question. I was stunned that the level of customer service was no better than what I would receive at any local party store. Left to my own devices, I chose a bottle of wine. While waiting at the check out, a woman came in asking for something called "Twisted Tea" and the worker behind the counter knew exactly where that was and took her right to that part of the store. Maybe the workers are more familiar with pedestrian drinks than the wines that they tout in their advertising. Extremely poor customer service with smug, know it all employees.
