After a long day of shopping at Birch Run and Frankenmuth, stopping at A&W was exactly what my family needed. The lobby was impressively clean, which instantly made the experience feel welcoming. The employees were so kind and patient -- a huge plus when you're tired and hungry! The food really hit the spot. I loved the chicken strips with honey mustard, and the chicken sandwich was just as good. And of course, you can't beat the classic A&W root beer served in a frosted mug! Such a perfect touch. A five for the pleasant service. These ladies will laugh and chat with you as long as time permits. True on all four of my visits. The hot dogs taste as great as when I was a kid. A&W has made some questionable changes over the years, but too few to really matter. Root beer and I don't get along, when I come here I throw caution to the wind and savor a large, frosty one and pay the price later. It's easily accessible on the campus of the Birch Run Outlet Mall. A&W is a staple of the Birch Run area! I have always had a good visit here and have never run into any issues. I visit this A&W about 3-6 times a year, as I travel for work and this is my typical lunch spot. I have ate both inside and drive-thru. The service is always spot on with being friendly and efficient. You cannot beat those root beer floats! I attempt to cut some calories and get the diet root beer and still tastes great - sounds logical, right? Food is always hot and my orders are always correct. Fries are salty and hot. Corn dog nuggets have a yummy breading. My complaint is the bathrooms - they are dingy and need a desperate update. The whole restaurant overall is in need of a face life. If I could I would give a negative star. I was very un happy with how my food was not good at all, my cheese curds were very rubber like and a little bit cold, my daughters chicken was like rubber she said and we didn't even finish our food we left. The bathroom was so gross and there was stuff on the toilet seat and the overall look was just very unpleasing to be at. Got there right when they opened. which was great, you would think service would be wonderful for the first people through the door, however hair found in onion rings in the bag deep inside as well as cold hamburgers slice of cheese was stuck on cold as well. I get its fast food, but for $20 I expect a little better. Very disappointed. read more

On a road trip home, I saw the sign for A&W and had an immediate craving for a Root Beer Freeze (I swear it was called something different back in the day, but it tasted the same) so we hopped off the highway. The sign had said the restaurant was "at the mall entrance" but it honestly wasn't at what *I* would call the mall entrance...it is actually inside the entrance down the main drag, through a light (our GPS knew where it was!). I waited in the car with the baby while hubby ran in to use the restroom and get our meal. Before I knew it, he was back with the food! It took MUCH less time than I thought it would, considering all the cars in the parking lot. I asked, and hubby said the lines inside weren't bad at all. The food was delicious (yes, we ended up getting a meal in addition to my Freeze) and I would highly recommend the fries, the onion rings, the bacon cheeseburger...and the Freeze. Yummo. My burger came out mildly warm but my son's chicken sandwich came out piping hot. Plus, now I'm not one to go into too much detail but I noticed that my bun seemed to be excessively dry. I say this because the outer crust was cracking and falling apart. We also ordered a Coney Island footlong and the pic is very different from what we received, The hot dog looked 2/3 the size in diameter. I haven't had A&W for years. I don't usually check-in to fast food places or review them (except when I'm excruciatingly bored... that's why I'm here. Ahem.), but here goes. For about $21 my girlfriend and I had an embarrassingly chubbying lunch: double bacon cheeseburger with papa sauce, small fries, and a medium float for me, and 3-piece chicken tenders, small fries, and a medium float for her -- we also split cheese curds. The price wasn't exactly cheap... for that cost, we could have easily gone to a sit-down restaurant. I liked it. I've mostly graduated from eating fast food hamburgers because I'm a snobby little bitch, but I was impressed with A&W's -- it tasted to me like a Wendy's burger mixed with a Burger King patty before Burger King's burgers went to burger hell. The papa sauce I had added to my burger didn't do much for me... I saw it, but I didn't taste it much. The fries were good, and the A&W float was an A&W float. I didn't have any of the chicken, but the strips were "hella" big, as they say. The small cheese curds are enough for two people to share, and you probably should share them unless you want to have a stroke and heart attack simultaneously. They were surprisingly good for fast food cheese curds. Mm, mm. Semi-sorta-maybe-a-little pricey, but well worth it. It hit the spot. read more

The two stars isn't for the food. I've always been partial to A&W's burgers, and I love me some cheese curds. My two stars is for the last experience I had with the front desk staff. My family and I always eat lunch here when we make our yearly trip up north in the summer. It's a tradition. This past summer, we did the same. Put in our orders, which includes root beer, because, hey, you're in A&W. YOU DRINK ROOT BEER HERE. We get our frosted mugs filled with delicious fresh-out-of-the-tap root beer ... and it was all flat. Literally no carbonation whatsoever. I go back to the desk and let them know it's flat. I'm told "that's how it's served". When I dispute that, the 17 year old behind the desk tells me "it's always been served like that, that's how we make it". I tell her I've been coming here for fifteen years, and this is the first time the root beer has been served flat. She just shrugs and tells use that's how it is. Eventually the manager came over and said the lines needed some kind of work, and gave us a new round, but that was just as flat. I do not need to be told by some snotty kid whose lifespan is only slightly longer than my patronage there that she knows how it's "always" been done. I do not like being patronized to by some teenager who doesn't know what she's talking about. If this is what I can expect next time we come up there, we'll find somewhere else to eat on the way up to the lake. Very nice, clean store with courteous staff. I got a foot-long Coney dog with onions and a mug of root beer. The dog was excellent, but the root beer was a little sweeter than usual (fresh made on premises, I'm sure from a pre-mixed syrup, but sweeter nonetheless). I ordered a chicken combination and the cashier was able to substitute the drink for a frozen coke. The sandwich itself was very good, and the frozen coke was excellent. However, the french fries were a very small portion and I wish the drink was larger. Other than that, the restaurant was good and it was a mid-point stop for our camping trip up north and I would definitely try this place in the future. read more

I have been to several A&W restaurants through out Michigan. I love A&W, however this location is disgusting. My Family and I ordered $30.00 worth of food and we barely ate any of it. The Chicken Tenders were slimy. Coney sauce reminded me more of Ol' Roy Canned Dog food and the Fries were cold. I will NEVER purchase any food from this location again. read more

The filthiest fast food restaurant I've ever been in. The floors were covered in dropped fries and onion rings. The woman's handicapped toilet was covered in s***t. The floors throughout the place looked like they hadn't been washed in weeks. I had to hand sanitize my hands after washing them in the bathroom because it was that filthy. read more
