We came better prepared this time. I was in love with the pretzel bites so I got those again and we all shared. My son went a little crazy with the sides and ordered the amazing mac and cheese, cheese stick with marinara and garlic cheese curds with ranch. We all agreed the pretzel bites were the best. Still super hot, salty, light and fluffy. It's served with a side of cheese that I haven't tried yet. My son assured me it is lovely. He got the chicken burrito and it was about 3 solid breasts worth of chicken in there. It also had rice in it. There wasn't any beans or cheese in it, which was odd to me. He really liked it though. He was able to eat half and is taking home the rest. He used my pretzel cheese with it. I thought it came with tortilla chips, so we asked for some and our server obliged. I had the turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and stuffing. Next time I'll get the gravy on the side. The potatoes really are perfect on their own. They came cold though, so I asked if they could throw it in the microwave for me for a couple of minutes. She did and they came back perfect. I ate everything but the sandwich. I tried the turkey. It was amazing. I just didn't have room after all the pretzels. My son happily took it home. His dad had the bacon cheeseburger with a side of bacon cheese fries. Same for him. This is the place to go if you want truly giant portions of food, particularly if there's bacon involved. I'd heard rave reviews about the BLTs at this place, and they live up to the hype. These towering sandwiches are made with a whole pound of bacon. Thier side order of bacon is also a pound. Thier side of chili cheese fries was a platter. The dirtiest restaurant I've ever been to. We were told to sit anywhere on the left side ...all the tables were dirty, like they were cleared of dirty dishes but never wiped. The mirror wall was filthy from top to bottom and all of the light fixtures were missing the globes so it was just bulbs hanging down. The loaded fries were completely over done and the bread in the French onion soup was greenish on top. The grilled cheese sounded great with all the different cheeses, but was mostly bread. This place is a classic throw-back dinner that has been here since probably before I was a teenager, not sure how long, but it is a literal institution for cheap food- big portions. This is really only my second time here, even though one would think this would be the place I come to often. I went once many years ago as a young adult, this time, with one child. I love the old timey feel of a classic dinner, with 80's music, almost like being on a movie set or a theme park. There are so many items on the menu, it is very hard to choose. We went with the club sandwich ( I love a club, so it is something I often order everywhere), some fries, side of ranch, a Pepsi Zero (wish they had coke), some sort of berry tea drink, torpedo shrimp with mashed potatoes, and clam chowder, the peanut butter pie with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle, and the red velvet cake. The server was extremely nice and efficient. She went out of her way the entire visit to get us our drinks just right, checked in on us countless times, and asked what else she could get or bring to make the meal great. I wish I remembered her name, but she was amazing. The meal was good. The food here is not the best ever, but it was tasty. The chowder was nice, and it was pretty cool that they had both New England and Manhattan chowder. Most places only have New England. But since my child has never had chowder before, we ordered New England. She liked it overall, but does not necessarily want to order it again, but I liked it. (Maybe she is not a chowder person). The shrimp and potatoes were great. They also had a nice gravy for the potatoes, the potato portion was huge. But what really was huge was the club. It really looked like a pound of turkey and a pound of bacon (especially since they are known for their bacon). I got a side of mayo since it was such a large sandwich. It was so huge, it took a few people and several days to actually finish it. One sandwich is like three or four big sandwiches. The fries were good and so was the ranch. We also enjoyed their desserts. While they did not look as big as the sandwiches, each piece took several days and three people to finish. So, if you come here, I would not skip out on dessert if you have a means to transport it home. If you come here, come with a freezer bag and ice packs, or come ready to share. That being said there were 4 of us 2 adults and 2 little children that only eat maybe a handful of fries. 1.50 charge so my children could have a plate of 5 fries in front of them. The server was just as meh as the food. Ambiance is greasy as if sitting in the kitchen. If you move the condiments I'm sure you will a dead fly and trash like we did. How disappointing. We went here and we have been dying to go here .There were flys in there .IT WAS WINTER! There were weird stains on the ceiling there were even greasy wash rag streaks on the decor. The bath room smelled disgusting and it was unsanitary . My son's spaghetti looked more like hog slap than a meal .I would not even feed this food to my dog. We had like 3 pounds of leftovers and did not take any of them. The subs inedible because it was so sloppily assembled and I could barely pick it up. In case you haven't been here before, the portions are massive for everything, but the bacon is probably what they are known best for. I'm boring so I just got my egg whites and toast. It was probably about the equivalent of 5 eggs and the toast is very large. My friend got eggs, bacon and hash browns and he had about 3 eggs buried under a pound of bacon and about 3 servings of hash browns with the large pieces of toast. On our way to northern Michigan we stopped here for lunch. Had been recommended by friends. They'd said to not expect a fancy place, but the BLT (bacon lettuce and tomato) sandwiches were not to be missed. They were right! The place is very close off an I-75 exit in a low long and older building. We were seated immediately and our order taken within two minutes. Very pleasant server. When we heard the BLTs had ONE POUND of bacon each, we decided to split one. Sandwich was made with a very fresh and flavorful Italian bread. Bacon was perfect and veggies well complimented the whole. Accompanying fries were very good. More than enough food for the two of us. They actually bring out a togo box when they bring it out. The bacon was very good. Does anyone need that much bacon, maybe no. However we want it. The sandwich is pretty and worth the visit. The fries were classic dinner fries and were yummy. I was only able to eat half of it and took the rest home. It reheated perfectly, even the fries reheated well. Over 13 years later and I'm back for a second time. Still meh.... The garlic bread is a piece of bread with no butter and only toasted on one side. Fries were still underwhelming and not hot. The Good: My Rueben was fantastic. Huge, filling, and tasted great leftover. My husband got the French Dip, and it was huge and delicious that we all sampled some of his. The Cheese Curds (which should be called cheese cubes) were yummy and had great cheese pull. Our cashier (I wish I would have gotten his name) was warm and friendly. I wish every worker in the restaurant was like him. The Bad: Becky, our waitress. She had such a sour personality. When we ordered a kid drink (which is stated on the menu) she looked at me like I had 2 heads before saying "oh, a small drink." Kid drinks are literally listed on the menu. When the food was brought out, my husband tried to help by grabbing the plate, instead she moaned at him to move his phone (our daughter doesn't talk and communicates through text, which is why it was out). Becky would drop off refills without saying a word. She never bothered to offer us dessert, which we were going to get. My husband and I have 30 years combined experience working in the tourism/hospitality industry, and this is just uncool. I've stopped in to Tony's several times over the years and the experience has been pretty consistent. Tonys is usually very busy and when you see the food being brought to the tables it is easy to see why. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. The portion sizes are definitely not as large as in the past but inflation is affecting everything. The omelettes are now 9 egg instead of the 12 egg a few years ago. The BLT still has a pound of bacon although mine today seemed didn't seem to have as much as prior orders. They do have a lot of parking and the bathrooms are very clean. The restaurant dining area could use a refresh but they keep it pretty clean as well. read more

Good and bad about Tony's. The check is not itemized. And I find some surprise extra charges on it. French Dip Sandwich very disappointing at $15.49 + cheese $1.89. Server ask what kind of cheese. I thought perhaps it came with the sandwich found out that I was billed $1.89 and that would be ok if it had a decent amount of cheese on it, but it is so little cheese you couldn't even taste it. To make it even worse is the bread on the bottom was wet to the point it could not be picked up to eat as a sandwich. I and my wife both had to eat it with a knife and fork. The beef was like pot roasted beef cut along the gain being long stringy chunks. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Extra plate charge is .75 Small milk $3.09 AND THEY CHARGE A CREDIT CARD FEE. So it is easy to see why they do not bring an itemized slip to the table. Comments below by Joshua C. elaborates on billing at Tony's. It would be hard to say the place is not good when it has so many customers and is very busy. The bacon turkey sandwich is really good. The 1 pound bacon sandwich is phenomenal. I actually was recommended this restaurant by a family member but it wasn't anything I would recommend. The only good thing I can say is the portions were huge! But the food was very bland. My toast was burnt, bacon (I guess they deep fry), that's the first time I've heard that one-tasted like grease and the eggs were just ok. Our waitress served our food and never returned until my husband flagged her down to get our bill. The restaurant itself or diner I would call it had a large dirty mirror across one wall.
