Atmosphere was great. The potato cakes were the best! The burger pretzel bun was not crispy or warm, bummer. Berries was ice cold, excellent. See our YouTube channel Coolest Life.

Awesomeness and wonderful bar restaurant with no wait, fully staffed and fun Trivia night activities unlike the Famous Bavarian Inn Restaurant, which sits inside with only German Foods. This fun little bar restaurant faces the busy Main Street in this beautiful, famously decorated downtown with German heritage! It's gorgeous just to sit here and enjoy their fine dining experience as well as the spirited staffs running around the thirty some tables with mixed American Hamburgers and German Bratwurst Sausage Dishes and German beer in 14 oz. dainty glasses. What a wonderful find. Nothing touristy about this Jewel of Frankenmuth, MI.

9/27/2025 we spent most of the day here in Frankenmuth with our out of state guest. Lots of quaint gift shops, coffee bars and restaurants for you to pick from. We browsed pretty much every shop in downtown thru uptown districts. We decided on Michigan on Main for lunch because they had outdoor seating and we had our small mini schnauzer with us. Last year we had lunch here and they welcomed our dog to the outdoor seating but this year we were told service dogs only. Next year we won't come here for lunch or dinner as we discovered many other areas that were pet friendly w/outdoor seating. My husband tried the Main Street chicken quarter white with a cherry salad. He loved the salad and did not like the flavorless white chicken. Our guest both loved the 12" brat w/pretzel and I liked my smash burger w/fries. We had to order carry out due to the no pet policy so we ate lunch under a shade tree across the street. Our waiter was friendly and brought our lunches to go out to us, the outdoor area was nice and inviting with a handful of guest. Too bad we couldn't have joined them but it all turned out ok.

Perfect for brews and appetizers to take a break from the frigid weather. We loved the totchos!! The blueberry pulled pork is a change up from the usual taste. Great local beer selection. All the other amenities of the Bavarian Inn. Seat yourself!

This was such a great lunch option! We liked it better than any other casual options here. It's a good menu with great prices and casual vibe.

Another adventure we had over the summer was through Michigan. The first stop of our trip was to Frankenmuth to allow the kids time to play at a water park, which was a hit. We didn't spend a lot of time in the downtown Frankenmuth area, as it sort of reminded me of a German Gatlinburg. With that said we did spend some time seeing the historic Bavarian Inn and having lunch there at their Michigan on Main bar & grill. The entire area of Frankenmuth was very busy when we arrived on Sunday, but it was pretty quiet and enjoyable the next day. We tried to get a table on the small patio of Michigan on Main, but it was one of few crowded things we ran into that day. So instead we sat at a booth in the mostly empty inside dining room. If you didn't already know, Frankenmuth is famous for its chicken dinners. I wanted to get a sample of this fried chicken and went with their chicken club sandwich ($13.50). This sandwich is topped with gouda, mixed greens, tomato, and a creamy basil pesto dressing served on a ciabatta bun. Overall a solid sandwich, though I'm not sure there was anything special about the chicken. Perhaps you have to order the family-style chicken dinner to get the full experience. My wife enjoyed the Michigan southwestern style black bean burger topped with mixed greens, guacamole, corn & black bean salsa, and smoked gouda cheese on a pretzel bun ($13). This was a very good homemade burger. Both sandwiches are served with Michigan potato chips, or fries can be added for an upcharge. Michigan on Main was a very pleasant dining experience. Also of note are the 18 beers on tap, something for everyone!

Our server, Tanner, was genuinely kind and welcoming, which made a big difference. The table was set nicely when we arrived -- wine glass and water glass, silverware wrapped with cloth napkins on a side plate, and a candle lit off to the side. It felt thoughtful and perfect for a date night. We split the French Onion Soup to start, and it was delicious. Maybe a little pricey at $12, but it came with lots of cheese and bread (plus bread on the side), so it felt worth it as a starter. My boyfriend ordered a Long Island Iced Tea -- strong, but no complaints there -- and I got cranberry juice. Both drinks came out in the same glassware as the water, styled like cocktails, which I actually appreciated. No weird "different treatment" if you're not drinking alcohol, which is always a plus to me. We also did the Build-Your-Own Board, which was really fun, and Tanner was super helpful in guiding us through the choices. We picked Summer Sausage, Garlic & Herb Soft Cheese, Smoked Gouda, Fire Roasted Tomatoes, and Balsamic Onion Jam. The Fire Roasted Tomatoes were SO GOOD, and I usually don't even like tomatoes. They were soaking in olive oil (I think?), which had great flavor and paired perfectly with the bread and Garlic & Herb Cheese. I also really enjoyed the Balsamic Onion Jam, savory, slightly sweet, and a little goes a long way. Overall, everything tasted great. I was a little disappointed in the portion of Smoked Gouda compared to the soft cheese, especially considering some soft cheeses can retail around $30 per pound. If you're looking for the best value, you might consider a different cheese option. That said, extra bread was only $1, which felt like a great deal for the amount we received. We were honestly getting pretty full and almost couldn't finish it all. We were seated in the cellar area, which was okay, just a little small, and the music was pretty loud. Not ideal for a Valentine's date when you're trying to have a conversation. Random but important: the bathrooms were spectacular. Individual, spacious, very clean, nice sink setup, pump soap, automatic paper towel dispenser, and even a candle lit. Honestly, 10/10 bathroom experience. Overall, it's a really solid date night spot with great service and good food. Just a couple small tweaks (music volume and cheese portions!) would make it even better. We'd definitely come back.

After leaving Oma's, I realized I wasn't in the downtown area but at the Bavarian Inn Zehnder. (Google maps gave directions to this inn although I input downtown Frankenmuth, MI.) As I was finding a parking space, numerous tour buses pulled up and dropped passengers off. I can see why my wait time was twenty minutes (shortest wait time at any of the restaurants). While waiting, I walked around the building and realized that that all the restaurants - different décor - had almost identical menus but prices seem to vary for the same dishes (maybe quantity is different). The gift store was stuffed with all kinds of souvenir items. Although I was seated in Lorelei Lounge, I was given a Oma's menu. As I looked around the room and by the bar, there was a doorway leading to Oma restaurant. This Inn is known for its fried chicken. The chicken was fried crispy and well seasoned but the insides were not moist nor tender. For its notoriety, it did not meet my expectations. The pork schnitzel was so so - not as good as other German restaurants I tried. The Franconian Combination Plate of sausage and chicken was nothing special. I thought it needed more flavoring and not so overcooked. Food presentation was poor. If it was better, I might have finished my plate. The Apfel Strudel could use more filling. You are eating more crust than the apfel. The New York Style Cheesecake tastes like it was frozen. It's drizzle tastes like any strawberry sauce. Neither dessert was impressive.

I owned restaurants for many years and am very tolerant and understanding that stuff can happen. The way it is handled makes a big difference. The food tonight was subpar with the steak being full of gristle to the point of being inedible. The other sides were so salty that they were not enjoyable. On top of the food quality, the service was also an issue. It was seat yourself and we had to track down a server, then go hunt down menus. Once food arrived there was no follow up on our food or needs until we again found someone to assist us. A manager came out to speak to us and was only willing to discount our bill by $3 on a $30 meal that could not be eaten. We will not be back and will recommend that others avoid eating here.

The bar was quiet, calm, dark and cold but seemed like a chill vibe. Our waitress was okay, service was quick and she did her job well but didn't smile and wasn't very talkative or seemingly friendly. We asked what her favorite appetizers were and we ordered the Loaded Potato Balls based on her recommendation - they were great! 10/10! Loaded with flavor, very moist and served with 3 sauces - ranch, spicy ranch and sour cream. The ranch and spicy ranch were not great - tastes like they're bottled not homemade. The sour cream though, that was a good compliment. We both ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich - 10/10! They're hand breaded, juicy and tender chicken breasts topped with lettuce, tomato and mayo on a perfectly warm brioche bun. Our meal was served so hot, it was perfect. I would absolutely go back just for this sandwich! The homemade chips for the side were great, crispy and lightly seasoned. I had the tater tots with mine and they tasted freezer burnt, wouldn't get them again. We also had a side of their house made coleslaw and it was perfect, ice cold and a great balance of flavor. Draft beer wasn't super cold - it would be better served in a frosted glass. Overall- it's good, we'd come again! Next time we'd sit at the bar top as the bartenders seemed to enjoy more casual conversation and friendly vibes with their customers.
