So disappointed. My hubs stopped by for two caramel, chocolate apples. $14 and $15 each. Good thing we live nearby because both were old and stale plus the chocolate tastes low quality. I called and they were happy to replace with 2 'fresh' ones. Unfortunately we were again disappointed. The flavor is not of quality and they have a stale, refrigerated taste. Difficult to explain. Very poor customer service to say the least. My husband picked up some chocolate covered strawberries and the girl at the front was rude and was rushing him. The strawberries were poorly packaged and smashed in the tiny container. My husband wanted to purchase other products, but the girl was so rude that he just walked out....there was only 1 other customer in there. It's not the same as before. Super gross store. After driving by this place for years, I'd grown curious about trying their candies. From the parking lot, you'll observe what appears to be an auto repair in the back and many hungry cats at their porch. The inside contained dusty old stuffed animals and a virtually empty display case with questionably old-looking chocolates. I spent roughly $30 on an assortment of candies and chocolates to include some of the old stuff in the display case. Upon biting into my first one, a worm emerged. After inspecting the other chocolates, another actually had what appeared to be a cocooned worm in it (still wiggling). This crusty old feline-overrun chocolatier is nearly tucked under the 10 freeway on Grove and has apparently been "serving" the community for decades. Thank you Halgren's...but I think I'll stick to the professionals when it comes to chocolates from now on. But thanks for the disgusting nightmare. read more

DO NOT GO HERE SO RUDE , I went in today to get my mom some strawberries & I asked over the phone to drizzle both chocolates on top of the strawberries when I got there I only seen mostly white drizzle & not so much milk drizzle , I asked Teressa to drizzle it & she said she wasn't about to take the strawberries out the package to do it , than sat there & said she didn't like my attitude, I never once gave her attitude. So sad because she's the owners daughter no point in calling back because the owner obviously won't fix the situation since that's her daughter . I know if my mom owned a small business I would be professional & kind as possible to my customers , my family & I will not be returning here because of the customer service but I wish nothing but the best for them. read more

I've had chocolate covered strawberries from here before but yesterday was my first time visiting their locaiton. They're located off Grove between 4th & 6th street and right against the 10 fwy. (exit 4th st. and got west). Right now, it's a bit of a challenge to get in their driveway because of all the construction going on, but it's worth doing a u-turn to get in. You can't miss the house, it stands out and is behind a shopping center and across from Brick Pizza Shack. Like everyone else, we came here for chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's day. These were made fresh the same day and when we ate them they tasted amazing. The chocolate is a little thicker than say, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory or Sherrie's Berries. Chocolate covered strawberries are always a great idea to bring to any sort of function, but these are even more special. If you're in Ontario or passing through the city, I would recommend stopping here for their chocolate covered strawberries. read more

This place is a hidden gem. From the outside it is kind of hard to tell that it is there because the signs look a little old and faded, but when you get there they are so nice and friendly. Looks like a house turned candy factory. We got the 4pc chocolate covered strawberries. We picked the chocolate flavors and they dipped it right there for you. A few hours later the strawberries were still juicy and sweet and the chocolate portion was perfect. Try this place out. You won't be disappointed. read more

Definitely one of the best places for chocolate covered strawberries. Not only do they make them fresh in milk, white and dark chocolate, the strawberries are fresh from the strawberry field behind their shop. I have had the famous ones from the membership and mail order stores, but these are the best by far and that says a lot. They take 10 minutes to make, but you can call ahead and order them in advance. Definitely worth trying out. read more

OMG! I just bit into one of the large mint truffles and it was FILLED with fuzzy mold! When I called and told them about it, they said the owner was "out of the country" and that it was just grease. If it looks like mold, smells like mold, and tastes like mold...it's MOLD! I will NEVER come here again. Hopefully I even survive the night... 10/18 Update: When I brought back the truffle to get my money back, the workers confirmed it was mold. The Health Department will be conducting an audit on Monday. read more

This one is in the cutest old Craftsman home, with painted white candy display cases that are probably original to the store, lots of dark wood, and simply oozing with charm. A trip down nostalgia lane, x2. Enter slowly, dear friend, then pause. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. You have been transported back to 1957, of old fashioned, handmade chocolates, frozen chocolate dipped bananas, chocolate dipped strawberries and pretzels, and familiar but hard to find candies I remember from wayyyyy back when. Then open your eyes, and there they are, those vintage display cases filled with trays of hand formed candies, fudge, those beautiful chocolate dipped strawberries everyone raves about, and bags of caramel corn. The remainder of the lobby is wall to wall shelves of teddy bears of many colors (all rather creepy in my opinion). My guess is, this place hasn't changed a thing in almost 60 years. A great place to bring the kids and grandkids. Just make sure you have brought some straight jackets for the ride home. For them, silly, not you! My mother loves pecan turtles and I have trouble finding them. I called and they said they have them. When I got there they had them made with every nut you could imagine. They were huge and very good. I bought four and they weighed over a pound. Lot's of gift ideas prepared in the store. A bit dusty but it's literally in a construction zone with the road work out front and above. Sad to see all the stray cats out front but I was pleased with my experience and will return read more

First time here and I was super excited since I've been eyeing this place for years. Unfortunately parking is a bit hard but I did it!!! Upon waking in I was a bit disappointed as it was dark and it smelled a bit stale. I didn't let that keep me from what I was there for, to check out the treats. There were tons to choose from unfortunately I'm doing a low carb diet so I just let me kids pick. We got some chocolate covered rice Krispies. I had to have a tiny bite just to check it out... This place is the cutest. Chocolate everywhere! Chocolate covered nuts, chocolate covered fruit, even pineapples, milk chocolate, white chocolate and dark chocolate. I wanted a chocolate covered strawberry. The owner pointed to the boxes of them. I told him I could only eat one because of high blood sugar. He said he would go in the back and make me one. I was impressed. That was good customer service. I also purchased chocolate with almonds. I forget what it is called, but it was delicious and it is large. I couldn't eat it in one sitting. This is such a cute shop with a variety of candied treats. There are many white and milk choco options and even covered potato chips and pineapple. They also carry old school candies as well. This is actually quite near another chocolate shop that I think I like slightly better. This is tucked into a cute little house (the Ontario tourist materials call it a "historic house" almost right under the 10. They're best known for their chocolate covered strawberries, which are made fresh. As in you order them and they go back and dip them. Yes, the ones in the glass case look rather old - take a closer look; they're plastic strawberries dipped in chocolate for display. Though some of the sugar-free chocolate did look as if it had been there for a while. The creams are square - not rounded-off square which I've seen before, but SQUARE with sharp corners. The woman I bought mine from said it helps them make them faster. The chocolate is all Barry Callebaut, so I expected a slightly higher grade of chocolate. The chocolate coating itself doesn't impress. This place has been in business since 1957, and the centers do feature some pretty intense artificial colors. Centers are a little pasty, not unpleasantly so, but if you like runny fondants (I don't) you might not like them. They make their own peanut brittle, which is nice, and sell it dipped in chocolate, which is brilliant. They also sell chocolate covered nougat, which is very nice indeed. The strawberries were all right but nothing particularly exciting; nice, and likely a good gift. They also feature a selection of old-timey candies (Cherry Mash, Valomilk, etc. - including in dark), many of which you can find at Ontario's other chocolate store, though they carry the Idaho Spud Bar, which I've never seen for sale anywhere. Worth a trip. And if you need to impress someone, a box of chocolate-dipped strawberries makes a nice hostess gift. 3 stars overall but I'm bumping it to 4 stars for the chocolate-covered nougat and the chocolate covered peanut brittle. read more
