Love oyster. I got the sampler for my birthday last year and the oysters were cold but had a good flavor. Plan to go back soon.

We took a out of town business guest for our first venture to Half Shell. We were seated quickly and liked the ambiance. We started with the Royal Red appetizer - $12 for 8 large peel on shrimp. These were delicious dipped in the small ramekin of butter. Our guest and I ordered the redfish Orleans, while my husband had the grilled seafood sampler platter. I chose the Half Shell salad and sweet potato side. The salad was nice with goat cheese. The sweet potato as delicious - but very, very sweet and loaded with butter. We used it as a sub for dessert, but couldn't finish. As for the main course, the redfish had a couple of grilled shrimp, a sprinkling of crabmeat, and an orangey-sauce. The taste was good (salty for us) but overall good. Unfortunately, the fish was very overcooked and dry. I left over half the $26 entree on the plate, as did our guest. My husband enjoyed his platter and it was not overcooked. I didn't complain to the waitress when she finally returned, as I think complaining about the food at a business dinner is distracting and can spoil the evening. Apparently our guest felt the same as he left a good bit of fish, also. I emailed Kevin the manager the next day and let him know. He said he, too, hated overcooked fish and would mention it to his staff. No real apology, just a thanks for the feedback. So... given than 2 of 3 entrees were overcooked to the point of being left on the plate, service was just ok, and the fact they seemed minimally concerned about it, I think 3 is a fair, actually generous, rating. The shrimp were great - we might go back for them, but I'm not sure I'll risk spending $26 on an entree that may be a disappointment again. We have too many local places that get it right, especially at this price point. read more

The redifsh Orleans 26 was overlooked and not an enjoyable meal. I didn't care for the flavor but that may my taste. Aside from that the fish was overlooked and tough. My wife's pasta dinner was served with breaded fried shrimp that was comparable to something you'd by from fast food restaurant or the frozen food section at your grocery store. Our meals in past have always been excellent but these two choices were a such quality to shy us away from any near term re visit read more

We were excited to try the Half Shell, some of our group had eaten at other locations and loved it. Sadly we didn't have the same experience in Flowood. Three of us ordered the Royal Reds and they were gritty and not very sweet. One ordered a oyster poboy and it came without any mayo or tarter on it so he ordered tarter and was brought cocktail sauce. One ordered oysters on the half shell and he said they were ok but not great (as in Felix's in NOLA) and ordered the Crab Orleans and would not order again. The bloody mary's took about 30 minutes to get. Our waitress was on the slow side but we chalked that up to it being new. And the biggest problem is the ladies restroom was out of TP. Hopefully this will all improve and we'll try it again. read more

I went in here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. 2 girls at the hostess stand just ignored me. So I strolled to the bar. A tall dark hair woman introduced herself & offered to get me something to drink. Very nice an it was her birthday. I ordered the combo poboy an was very disappointed. The bread ,lettuce,and tomato were great. But the popcorn shrimp & oysters sucked. THe oysters were the size of a nickel. For the price charged you could at least use some bigger shrimp. Service was great I didn't complain. The FF were fantastic. Will give it another shot. read more

Love this place. I live in the area and can tell you, if you love New Orleans style seafood, this is your spot. I'm not a big oyster fan but the char grilled here are divine. All the fish dishes and the surf and turf are bona fide. Nice bar and craft beer selection as well. Get there early, always a wait. read more

One word: seafood pot pie! Awesomeness! We visited a little early to avoid the crowd. It gets busy as the evening goes on. Food is wonderful and service is great. read more

This is my second time dining here. Love it! Kevin, my waiter was very attentive and constantly checking to see if there was anything that I needed. A true gentleman. The food was delicious, especially the Chargrilled Oysters. If you like a little kick in your salad dressing, try the Wasabi salad dressing. Great! read more

My wife and I have been twice in the last couple of weeks just for the char-grilled oysters. We sat at the bar both times so no comment on waitstaff but the bartenders were great. Now the bad news, I don't know where they source their oysters but they are really, really small. I would say that by weight they are about a third to a quarter the size of the ones I've had in NOLA, Mobile and even Jackson (Drago's). At almost $20 a dozen this is a deal breaker especially since taste-wise they were just average. So, unfortunately, Half Shell isn't going to make it to the regular rotation. read more

We got in about 5:55 and our waiter made sure we got happy hour prices. The food was delicious (grouper, gumbo, oysters, seafood pasta, snapper) and atmosphere entertaining. Much better than Georgia Blue across the street read more

After a couple of attempts to partake of this establishment, we finally figured out it pays to be early! A 6:00 pm sitting worked out to about 20 minutes in the bar before getting our table. The staff was perfectly attentive, and helpful with the menu selections. We chose the Pecan-crusted Redfish with broccoli, Redfish Orleans with cheese grits, and the seafood pasta. The fish dishes were well prepared and tasty; the pasta lacked any flavor - basically just a regular Alfredo with seafood. The last was a bit disappointing. We finished up with the Key Lime pie and the Chocolate Decadence - both were superb. The only downer on the evening was the absence of fresh French bread. Any other seafood restaurant this close to NOLA would have served it up front, and kept it coming. We had to ask for it, and it arrived in the form of two crostini on a bare plate. Thus cost the place a star in our rating. Still overall, it was an enjoyable meal in a nice atmosphere. We'll be back. read more

Would like to tell you about the food but never made it to the table. Arrived one evening not long ago (party of three including infant) and was told by the hostess that the wait would be about twenty minutes. After an hour wait, watching other parties which arrived far later than us being set and with several visits to the hostess, I asked for the manager. The manager said that he was sorry and didn't know what happened. He didn't try to help us at all. He never said "let me see what I can do" or "I'll get you a table" or "the next table for three will be your table" nothing. He didn't even try to stop us from leaving. I will say that we weren't special. During our hour wait I noticed three other parties leave also. No one likes to feel as if they don't matter. read more

The first few experiences with this restaurant were very good. Lunch today, however, was disappointing. We ordered seafood portabella. The mushroom was good but we couldnt find evidence of the seafood...certainly not as described on the menu. Our plates were not warmed. In fact, they were ice cold which meant that our warm meal quickly became unappetizingly cool. The service is good; the facility is nice, but the quality of the food seems to be slipping. Would be nice to have bread before or with the meal. We were told that bread was not available. read more

Was very excited about trying the food but never got the chance. We were there on a Friday at noon and were told it was restaurant policy to not seat more that 8 people to a table... We had 10 and would have also needed a high chair. I didn't see how adding 2 chairs would have been that difficult and the hostesses acted very uninterested in helping us. They never offered any suggestions to solve the problem and didn't seemed concerned at all that we left. read more

Food is absolutely great, and the dim lighting is perfect for date nights. Very kid friendly, as they provide your child with crayons and a low priced kids' menu ($5). The staff is very friendly, and are always around to service you. If you are tight with your pockets, then this isn't the place for you. A dinner for two can easily run you into the $60+ range (as we often do).They have the best seafood pasta that i've had in a long while. Go there NOW! read more

Great new business in Flowed! When you walk in, you feel like you are in a New Orleans restaurant. It is usually pretty crowded, so I recommend making reservations at least an hour ahead of time. They usually have great specials. For an appetizer, they have great crab claws. They are fresh and some of the best you can get north of the coast. For the entree, the shrimp & grits are always good. Be sure to save room for the bananas foster! This is a great, new, authentic New Orleans restaurant! read more

I've attempted to try this place on two different occasions. The first time was on a Friday about 6:30 PM. The parking lot was full and the entrance crowded, but I decided to ask about the wait. While I was waiting to speak to the hostess, she took three calls and added them to the call ahead seating list (or whatever it's called). When I finally got to speak to her, she said it would be an hour to an hour and a half wait for a party of two. We chose to go elsewhere. We decided to try again three weeks later. This time, I called back on Thursday night and asked about the call ahead seating list. The person I spoke with suggested calling back the next morning and putting my name on the list. I called at 10:30 AM and was told they don't offer that on Friday and Saturday. We still planned to go, so I figured I might as well try callilng ahead again. I called about 4:00 PM re the call ahead wait list. This person said they don't do that after 3:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. We arrived at 6:00 PM this time, and there were numerous people standing outside (in the rain) waiting to be seated. Again, we decided to go somewhere else. I suppose the crowd and wait is a good sign, hopefully it means the place is very good. That being said, not sure I will return unless it is at an off-time. If you plan to go for dinner (at least on the weekend) be prepared for the possibility of a lengthy wait. read more
