This is a Half Price Book Store located in Dublin , California. You can buy books in discounted prices and you can also sell your used books here . I love that they have old fashioned books ( out of prints ) and comics , CD , records in big disc format , marvel comics, toy figures collection, etc. I also love to see some pretty book marks and inexpensive prices . It lives up to the name " Half Price " book store . The store is clean and nicely organized. Good customer service at the front and in the back for buying your used books. Such a cool spot! Half Priced Books sells both new and used books (most used), as well as CDs, vinyl, video games, toys, etc. You can easily spend an hr+ here browsing the shelves and flipping through the assortment of materials. Yes, obviously their prices are most likely not going to beat Amazon (I bought a used book here that was about the same price on Amazon in new condition), but it is nice to support these local stores that will most likely be going away in the next 5-10 years. There is something charming and special about physical medium and especially supporting a community store that have and will become more niche. Support your local book stores! read more

5 stars all the way. I'm basically a regular in here. Always in here cuz ya never know what they're gonna get in stock. Saw a Nintendo gameboy color and regretted not grabbing it. Even saw this one Marvel omnibus pretty pricey but good. You can even find a complete set of Stephen Kings in multiple trips. I'll keep it at 5 stars to be nice since the staff is so friendly and I've been going here for so long. The buy back program is okay, it's hit or miss sometimes it all varies. Sometimes you get $5, other times 20 and some change. It all depends on what you have and what they need. Supply and demand. As bookstores are becoming less popular thanks to many of us converting to digital, I am still one of those that enjoys physically holding a book. This takes me on a journey to "Half Priced Books" that has been serving the Dublin area since 2011. Nestled in a busy retail strip mall, you will find this store located next to a Marshall's, Michaels, and Ross. What might come as a surprise to many is that Half Price Books has locations nationwide. As of 2024, they operate 120 stores in 17 states and since their corporate headquarters are located in Texas, that is where roughly half of their locations are placed at. The review I am writing for is the Dublin location as well as 3 other locations in the Bay Area; Berkeley, Concord, and Fremont. This particular store is relatively small but they utilize every square foot packing as much as possible. You will find everything from fiction, non-fiction, romance, sci-fi, mystery/suspense, biographies, reference, cooking, travel, children's, and much much more. Additionally, they have a nice selection of magazines as well as books on tape/CD/DVD. And what I enjoy is that they carry a very nice selection of CD's, DVD's (available in regular format & Blu-Ray), and video games. Now here's the main reason why I am deducting a star on this place. The name of their business IS called "Half Price Books". However, some of the prices of their used books are fairly steep and very close in price of what a new book what cost at Barnes & Noble or Amazon. Since they also buy, sell, and trade, they can be a bit on the selfish side giving you a very small amount of cash for your books. So my advice is to go to Goodwill or even a mom & pop bookstore which are far more generous for your used books. The store hours here is one of the primary reasons why I like this place. They are open 7 days a week from 10am-9pm. Overall, the selection here is quite impressive and the condition of many of their books is in near-mint to excellent. Customer service is above average as they were very helpful in pointing me to the right direction. And if there is a particular book you're looking for, they are able to special order it and have it sent to their store in just a few business days. We all know that bookstores are a dying breed (R.I.P. Borders, B. Dalton, Crown, to name a few) so finding this place is great for Dublin and surrounding communities (San Ramon, Livermore, and Pleasanton). read more

Came out this way to sell some books from my library. I didn't expect a huge return, I completely understand overhead cost as well as resell. I sold 21 pretty popular / well sought after novels. I was offered $23. That's about $1 and some cents a book, for them to then resell at 8.99 - 12.99 each. I'd waited SO long in the store, I went ahead and accepted. Next time I'll be sure to donate to a library; that won't feel like such a slap in the face. Just wanted to share the experience for others to know just how much you can expect to be lowballed here. They've been here a while. I mostly come for their vinyl selection. Although records are not their strong point it's nice to poke around and check out what they got. Prices are generally a shade higher for their vinyl, but that's ok they run a full and friendly staff so I don't mind if I have to pay a couple bucks more for their records. Although some of the ones in their locked display case can be overpriced. Speaking of their display case of more expensive vinyl, You can thumb through them with the opening to some through the cases too small and needs to be redone. It's pretty annoying, no really... Please put a new cover on top and make it so people don't have to shove their fingers in a little space just a flip through some records! I'll give you one more star if you fix this issue. Other than the vinyl the prices of their books are really good. I used to shop at the Berkeley store before this one opened and they have consistently been good and I'm glad they're around! I love coming to Half Price Books! They have such an amazing collection of manga, classic novels, CDs, pretty much anything you can think of they most likely have. My boyfriend and I have been frequent customers these last few months and rarely leave without purchasing anything. This location has glass cases that display old novels that are even signed occasionally, I love checking out the rare copies they have in rotation. The store is very clean and well organized, the only part that's somewhat cluttered is the donation desk, but that's to be expected. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable too! read more

Service is always good, very polite employees. Store is clean and always an available chair if one wants to sit and peruse a book before buying. If selling here do not expect to get very much. I recently brought 5 small moving boxes of all hardback non fiction books of which they bought all and only got $36.79. Visited this location for the very first time this past weekend, and love it! I usually go to the Concord location, but the Dublin location seems so much larger, maybe it's their wide aisles, or just the fact that this place is new to me. They have a great selection of books and a lot of the new popular novels you may constantly see being raved about on #booktok are available for purchase. The books are in pretty good condition, too. I'm sure this is the case for all Half Price Book stores, but I wish they would put the price sticker on the back so that it doesn't ruin the front of the paper covers. I bought 3 books in total and a super cute bookmark that was only 49 cents. My total came out to be only $29 , which is such a steal. In addition to books, they also sell toys, pop culture merchandise (Harry Potter, Hello Kitty, etc.), DVDs, CDs, and vinyl records. read more

The good old days of walking around browsing books with the musty old scent of books are still around. There's always something for everyone here with the store's layout neatly organized and everything clearly labeled (section wise). From children books to old car manuals, there's a bit of everything. The front counter can always assist with looking something up and they're pretty known for witty remarks (all too funny), very friendly and accommodating. When I was still a student, I would check here for used textbooks to see if I can find something for less than what I can get online or from the school's bookstore. Usually it's a miss, but there have been a few textbooks I've gotten here that saved me quite a bit. Granted yes, dvds and such are mostly phased out- but there's a good selection of vinyls, blurays and still dvds with a few vhs available. There's also a pretty decent selection of board games and puzzles available here, most are in like new/usable conditions with all the pieces. There's a desk for selling used books to the store. You don't really get much from selling, but it is available needed. For books that they won't purchase, they'll return it. I have just left the ones that weren't worth anything as they said they can donate them. Final Thoughts: There's quite a bit here that is just worth for you to check out yourself - book wise and such. Also there's an online option to purchase/pick up, makes it very convenient nowadays. read more

Other Half Price Books tend to have more collectibles and sought after stuff than this one, but it's good for common/everyday books. I ding it a star due to the service from the employees really lacking. Really awkward bunch that don't go out of their way to help you. They will make sure not too make eye contact and not ever go out of their own way to get a product or answer questions for customers. But hey, this is the perfect spot to put headphones on and ignore everyone as you check out if that's your thing. read more

WARNING! IF YOU BRING ITEMS TO SELL HERE, TAKE A PHOTO OF EVERYTHING FOR PROOF, OR THEY'LL RIP YOU OFF! I brought in a box of more than 100 DVDs to sell at the Dublin location last Friday. I made a checklist of all the discs I was selling beforehand, just in case (see photo). The box was completely full -- literally no room for any more -- and I remember thinking that it was amazing that the box was EXACTLY the right size for all of the discs. They ended up offering me just under $8 for the entire box, which I declined, so the employees put the DVDs back in the box, and I left the store. I noticed that there was now extra space in the box, but I was late for an appointment and stupidly didn't mention anything to the employees before I left. My mistake. However, when I got home, I checked the contents of the box against the checklist and discovered that an unopened 4-disc boxed set of Battlestar Galactica season 4.5 was missing. Since it was after the store had closed for the day, I got on the company's website and messaged their customer service department. Today, I received an email from the company's support team saying that they investigated and were "unable to locate this DVD set among the items evaluated during my visit." They also said that the store does not have that set in stock and has not sold any copies since my visit. I am 100% certain that the boxed set was there because I made the checklist as I was putting them in the box. So that tells me that either a) one of the employees swiped it before scanning it, b) they somehow managed to lose it, or c) they mistakenly put it in someone else's box. (The area where you sell books and the like was a mess.) In any case, I lose. Since the store is telling me that they didn't see it among the items evaluated during my visit, they're obviously telling me that I lost it, which I know is not the case. They did not offer me any sort of resolution, only an apology that I was "disappointed with your experience in our store" and that they "hope you will give us another opportunity to show you how much we value you and the items you would potentially sell to us." Well, I don't feel that they value me as a customer, or the items I brought to sell, at ALL. Although I guess someone DID value one of the items I brought enough to either steal it or lose it. No effing WAY will I ever set foot in any of this company's stores again. read more

Just want to write a review for the book buyer attendants -- you all are very patient, and professional and I always love the energy in the store. I was into helping my partner sell four or five boxes of materials and knew it was a hefty order. They mentioned a few people ahead, and about a 45 minute wait. I had no where to be. Of course I found myself a couple textbooks to help me study, and picked them up cheap at $10 a copy. Really, there's two parts of this. I was in the store for over two hours. I did get $168 dollars. Worth it! When I came up once and asked the status of the process, I mentioned my afternoon was free but my beloved dog was home alone and I hate leaving him crated for long (even though he's fine and really doesn't care if he's in there.) Mary at the buyback counter was exceptionally nice, complimented me/my partner's selection of items, and mentioned the store is pet friendly *to well behaved animals* and I was welcome to bring my boy with me next time I come in. I know that'll be soon, and Rinzlr is excited to meet you, Mary (and rest of staff!) All of your energies are infectious and amazing. You folks handled a major Karen who was hovering over you while you processed her order after it wasn't 30 minutes on the dot. She was quite rude, and you all handled it with grace. I came in here because I saw a big sign out front that said "we buy books and music." So I came here to sell some DVDs. I came in and sold half of the DVDs I brought. (I donated the other half of DVDs to Goodwill across the street.) The operation is smooth and the store is clean and well organized. All the staff is really passionate and knowledgeable about the books and music they sell. When you arrive you go to the back of the store and drop off your items you want to sell. They evaluate it within 20 minutes (depending of course on how busy they are). And offer you a price. And they pay you cash. While I was waiting i browsed their shelves of books, music, magazines, etc... I bought two books. ... I'll be back with more of my stuff. It's good for the environment and your wallet. Can't believe I have never reviewed this bookstore. It's my husband's favorite! Five stars? Sure~ first all the Covid-19 protocols are in place and made me feel safe. When you walk in they have hand sanitizers next to the door, markers on the floor directing traffic... they only allow so many people in at a time. While we were there maybe there was 8 customer's? Honestly I didn't count but I felt alone & safe. Limiting alcoves to 1 person at a time, they have removed the stools you use to be able to sit and linger... No lingering in this crazy 2020 pandemic. And since the USA is in a horrific surge of deaths and sickness. California is getting ready for another lockdown to save lives... We can all do our part... mask up people! This is a new and used bookstore as well as music store. They carry old vinyl albums CD's & DVD's if you still have a use for any of those... Wall to wall racks of all of that as well as novelty gifts. They have magazines at half off the cover price. They also have a pretty cool children's section and carry some toys too... Gender neutral restrooms. This store ticks so many of boxes for people like me... Cheapskates... Yes, I said it! They have so many real bargains here. This is the first time I've been to a location since there aren't any near my hometown. It was awesome to have so much media to look through, even 8mm film which is a rare sight nowadays. The selection and prices are good. Since things are mostly used, the price on movies and music is better than Barnes and Noble. You won't be paying $30 for a DVD unless it's some big box set. However, it's not thrift store prices either. DVDs tend to be around $5-10 and Blu Rays are commonly $8-20. Of course, a 4K disc, boxed set or boutique release might be more. Great place to find stuff, but don't expect to prices to be in the $5 thrift store range. read more
