Most record shops, the person who works there will chat, but you wish they would stop. Chris is incredibly friendly, honest, and knowledgeable. He is a joy to talk to. And no I'm not his nephew or ex roommate.

It lives up to the name " Half Price " book store . The store is clean and nicely organized. Good customer service at the front and in the back for buying your used books. A gem hidden inside Dublin blvd with all the Marshalls, Target , restaurants and shoes stores . You must take time to explore this bookstore .

I ended up buying a couple of new records as they got some stock on Record Store Day here as well in addition to their usual huge inventory of used (and new) records. I even got to replace an old Rolling Stones live record that I loved (and at some point lost in my own collection). There's a big parking lot and it's fairly easy to find parking. I immediately took the record back to the store thinking it would be an easy replace or refund, think again. The customer service gentleman was rude, confrontational, and accusatory from the start, looking over the record telling me it looks brand new. "Yes I bought it less than 7 days ago, here's the receipt, it is brand new and is skipping. I told him exactly what song it was skipping on and he told they have no way to listen to records and all he could do was a partial refund... An enormous record store with no record player, ha ha ha. Then the condescending gentleman decided to accuse me of possibly having a cheap record player and that was the cause of the skipping... I gladly showed him the receipt of my recent purchased turntable, I guess it passed the Rasputin turntable tier that is acceptable... So basically if you don't have a certain tier turntable Rasputin will blame you and your record, not a manufacturer defect. Lastly, the gentlemen called me "dude" multiple times, while his coworker was smirking and laughing duing the exchange at the register. Overall a very disappointing experience from a place that I spend hours in, but never again. There are tons more record stores in the Bay Area to support rather than Rasputin... Keep spinning

But I digress as this has been an independent record store since 1997, an offshoot of the Berkeley store on Telegraph. Digital downloads be damned, this shop is focused on physical media...CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, Blu-rays, and of course, vinyl. Even before picking up spares at Park Bowl, I recall that moment in my youth when I made the monumental decision to switch my record purchases from vinyl to CDs. Nowadays, vinyl is making a comeback among a younger generation looking for a higher quality, more realistic sound quality. I saw these Gen Z audiophiles flipping through the long LP bins in search of the elusive underground classic their stereophonic friends could appreciate and envy. Personally I could find nuggets of my own. Albums like The Very Best of Spike Jones (Photo 10) and The Complete 2,000 Year Old Man (Photo 5) resonated with me. I was happy to see individual LPs consolidated into boxed sets like the Linda Ronstadt retrospective. Beyond the music is the expansive DVD collection of movie titles both classic and obscure. There's also books and collectible merchandise like pop-culture lunch boxes and celebrity prayer candles. First off, Renee absolutely is THE person to own and run this place. She feels like a warm lovable character from your favorite book, the kind you reach for every now and then to read over and over again. I called recently because I really wanted to get my hands on a copy of Nikita Gill's new book "Hekate" and yes, I know I could just order it online from big box stores but I knew I wanted to support my local bookstore. Renee was quick and prompt and while she didn't have it in stock, she ordered it as quick as she could and I was able to go pick it up in the next day or so!
