Small record store with an interesting collection of records. Took home Tina Turner's "Private Dancer", a Sonny & Cher record, and a used "Midnights" album. The person working the front desk even took the time to check the back to see if they had any more Cher or Sonny & Cher records. Would absolutely go back next time I'm in Hayward. read more

we came in on a Sunday Afternoon stroll, nearing closing time. After browsing through a few crates the guy informed us that they'd be closing in 5 minutes so if we wanted to buy some records we should check out now. it was the impolite way of saying "hey guys! let me know if you're looking for anything in particular... I don't mean to rush you but we close in a little while so if I can be of any assistance I'd be glad to help" anyway, from what I gathered before leaving out discouraged and empty-handed was that the prices on new records were about average ($35) and they had a pretty small selection of vintage vinyl. This is by far my most favorite Record store in the Bay Area and maybe the entire universe. I've been a DJ for nearly 30 years and I feel like my ideal record store finally exists! Not only do they have a great selection of Hip Hop, Soul and Funk but they have a a great selection of DJ edits on 7" 45's. I can't express enough how much I appreciate that they have 2 listening stations. The Stacks is a great establishment run by Gabe who definitely has his pulse on the local community. The store itself is nicely decorated with a wide variety of records from old to new along with listening posts to listen to the records. The owner Gabe is a great guy who knows a great deal about records and has spent years as a DJ so from music selection to just general maintenance and care he can address your needs or point you in the right direction. Along with that he overall is a man of the community. During my time at the shop I've seen him have warm interactions with everyone who came in from the post office worker making deliveries, to people browsing through, to a young student selling some records to which Gabe reminded to remember to use some of that money for his school supplies. 100% this is a business people should visit and support. read more

This place brought back a lot of lost memories that reminded me of my childhood and teenage years. Seeing a lot of the old records were nostalgic and even seeing soundwave from transformers instantly bright back the happiness of when I was a kid. This place is dope and walking in here is like stepping back in time and revisiting some of your happiest memories. They have art and records you won't find anywhere else. When you see the old records of the time before tape Decks, CD players, and MP3 players, it makes you appreciate music so much more. The owner Gabe gives off a friendly aura that make you want to converse with him. I had so much fun talking and flipping through the new and old records, from hip-hop to Funk and Soul. I'm 13 and I love Funk and classic Soul. I called in ahead and placed an order of Kool & The Gang and he set it aside for me as well as helping me pick out Sly & The Family Stone. Favorite record store in the Bay Area! Aaaaand it's owned by a person of color, I don't think there are local record stores that are POC owned so it's dope that this one is. Right when you walk in there's definitely a vibe that promotes culture, community and the love of music. We just moved to Hayward 2 months ago so we decided to walk around downtown to explore the neighborhood. We came across this little record shop and decided check it out. At the time we didn't have turntables or records but walked in just for fun. So glad that we did because we discovered a hidden gem! We were greeted warmly by Gabe, the owner of the store. He was standing behind the counter with 2 turn tables playing music. We asked him for his thoughts on record players and found that he is very knowledgeable and well versed about types of record players, needles, records, music & life. The store is very cozy. The listening stations, plants and art work to admire add charm to the the ambiance which makes you want to chill & stay awhile. There's a wide selection of new, previously owned records and collectibles for very decent prices. If you're looking for R&B, HipHop, Jazz, 80s, Rock, you name it, he's got it or can get it for you. Talking to Gabe that day inspired us to get our own record player that same night. The very next day, we visited Gabe again, purchased our first album and we've been going there almost every weekend since. The store is more than just a regular record shop, it's a special place where you can hang out, listen to music the way it was meant to be heard & it brings people together. Easily my favorite record store in the East Bay... Stacks has the best curated vinyl selection that I've seen to date! Dude really knows his stuff and has some hard to find GEMS. The pricing is fair - Some of the harder to find vinyl is slightly on the pricey side but he also has some steals. Either way, it's well worth it if you know what you want. The store is super well laid out and he also carries posters, comic books, t-shirts, local CD's and some odds and ends for sale. He has a wide selection of RSD releases as well that can be hard to find (De La 7" box set, Beatnuts, etc). You can see the care and attention to detail he puts into his products and store - Everything is super polished, presented and packaged extremely well and is well taken care of. Really high quality presentation and offerings. The staff is super cool as well and it looks like he hosts events and has rotating DJ's come through. While I'm at the store it feels as if a thousand tiny kittens and puppies are marching across my brain and just kicking it in the pleasure center. Word. If you love music, art, culture, and good vibes then this is the place to be. During pandemic I got mad records from Stacks and now that it's a brick and mortar there is no other place I'd rather spend a day digging in. I don't even get dusty fingers; the records get cleaned! Plus I ALWAYS find the jams here as the bins get updated so regularly. I usually walk in and there's that record that I didn't realize was always meant to be with me. I stand there just immersed in a long but not awkward eye contact with that record like "Oh you want to go home with me? ....but of course." Then it's just me and that record, and all it's dope friends, until the wheels fall off. In closing, The Stacks has made me a much cooler person. I look at my record collection and I'm like damn this dude has incredible music taste. If I wasn't me I'd want to be me or at least hang out with me on occasion. Been living in Hayward for a while now and this record shop is a really cool addition to the B Street neighborhood. The store owner was very very helpful and friendly, he is also knowledgeable with his music and he loves to make sure you leave the store satisfied.
