Groove Records!
John M.

Although originally born in Oakland and from the Bay, this is the first time I've ever stepped into Groove Yard. This is a jazz record collector's heaven. Wonderful selection of titles. Mainly older stuff, but you'll find new pressings mixed in. You'll flip from a $5 record, to a $500, back down to a $30 in a row. It's organized chaos and I love it. A true OG record digging experience. Rick is a great guy, easy to talk to and more knowledgeable than you. I can't give his spot enough praise. Kid in a candy store!

So nice! :) I bookmarked this spot to visit since it was my boyfriend's 1st visit in Berkeley, and I thought this was a cool store to check out. We did have to check in his backpack at the entrance of the store, which is no issue. They have lots of selection of music, and my bf found a vinyl that he has been looking for a long time - The Big Lebowski one. He was so happy! This is definitely a good spot to check out if you're into music and especially if you want to get vinyls and cds. They also have some cool lunch boxes and posters as well plus other interesting items. Parking in Berkeley can be tough though. We drive around for about 18 minutes before we finally found a spot to park.

Vintage things can be quite cheap depending on format and popularity. Picked up Damian Marley's stony hill (7) for a cd that's a good price, will be more rare through the years. Also picked up Nelson Ned for the same price but in vinyl. Now ask people about famous Brazilian singers in Spanish he's top of that list, good price for refined ears. 5/5 great store

I came here a while back. Personally I found this place to be a little gem…read more Rasputin in Berkeley has a bigger selection in genres; at the same time DHM carries items that are very rare to find in the area (both new and used). I actually found rare copies of two different jazz albums on CD that I love (still sealed even though I didn't need to buy them) so that says a lot to me. Also, I noticed that they're products are overall pretty reasonably priced. I don't care for Vinyl, but I noticed they have a big section for that that in there too. They even sell live music performances DVD's that might interest you even if you're into Rock mostly (which is not the highlight of this store). I walked out with a brand-new copy of Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue for a friend, and I am grateful for the owners allowing me to browse in peace. Would definitely come back again.

Stores like this are an absolute treasure so make sure you help out by shopping with them in a physical "brick & mortar" store instead of online. Smell the vinyl records and experience a magical journey by digging through their collection! If you have any old albums, take them in and monetize it for some fresh new stuff. Remember, one man's junk is another man's treasure. These folks have my loyalty and future business, now get down there and score some amazing vinyl records!!!!!

I'm a non-fiction bookworm and this place is a heaven. The value for most books is reasonable and lower than a regular book store. I loved how organized it was on each floor and there were posted guides if you wanted to see more what floor to find them. They have a top floor with staff by appointment for special books. Other than that there's no staff interaction except at payment. I also loved they had table and chair seatings in random places be use you will get tired of checking out everything. Yes, I left with 7 books, no regrets and wish I could've taken more. I will def be back! They have straits and elevators but I recommend taking the stairs as they have interesting frames on the way and shop on lower level by stairwell.

Super friendly and welcoming, extremely willing to help upon your visit. You can also sell books here. They are picky with what you bring in, must be in pristine condition, no writing in books, and all hard covered books must have sleeves. They sell for a great trade-in but their cash isn't great. Definitely check them out!
