This is a very large vintage Half Price Books. It's time for a new remodel and new floors. Tables and Chairs are available to sit and read book. There's a variety of books. Half Price offers a large Clearance Section as well. Restrooms are easy to find. Employees are on the floor shelving books and getting a lot business. Employees had to be shuffled around to keep up with the Customers .One of the Employee Duos were chatting each other up regarding their Thanksgiving plans. Glad they get along. What can you say about a place where you're surrounded by book and more books especially if you're a lover of reading and book? That's how I feel about Half Price Books. My wife and I love browsing the shelves of books in all the different categories. You never know what "jewels" you'll end of finding. The day we were there the store was in remodeling mode replacing the shelving units and rearranging the store's layout in a more logical way. This is a pretty busy store and conveniently located next to Ross and DD's. I was on the hunt for a book that my local library no longer has in circulation. They didn't have it here but the kind gentleman was able to find it at the Cedar location. Too lazy to drive to Cedar Hill so I just looked around and was able to find a very inexpensive ($7 brand new) book by Nicholas Sparks. The store has a big selection of music. They also have a locked case with rare books, these are more on the pricey side. read more

This is one of the best places to find unusual gifts. If you like any kind of media you can find it here. Books, DVDs, VHS tapes, magazines. ECT.... they got it. There's usually a fair amount of books in the clearance section. There are also clearance DVDs of television shows movies, anything you can think of! Sigh. This ain't no library, it's better. You can sell your books and DVDs here. However, did not expect to be retiring from your transaction here. The staff is always very friendly. You can even call up and have books put on hold for you for a couple of days till you make it in the store. read more

I recently was in half Price books to buy some books and some puzzles for a friend. I've been going there for at least seven years and it's kind of gone downhill and I'm sure there Covid impacted it. I used to take books in there to sell so that I could buy other books but I don't even bother with that anymore because they don't give you anything for used books. It's better to just donate them if you can to a library or someplace else. I've taken in some brand new books that sell on Amazon for 30 and $40 and they want to give me less than a dollar for him so it's not worth my effort. I did go into the one on Cooper and pioneer this past week and I wanted to find an author based on a recommendation. This was a very famous author and they only had a couple old are used books by the author the specific book I was looking for They didn't have and the selection was pretty disappointing. But the clerk that looked for me was very helpful and very kind and I appreciated that they stopped what they were doing to try to find the books for me. I picked up a couple other small items that they always have in there and a puzzle which was very reasonable. So for the pros I'd say limited selection and I would go to a regular bookstore if I was looking for something specific but to just browse and see what they had might be worth a trip. They often have little knickknacks and things that you can buy to give to other people but those vary. Some of the staff are very nice and that's a definite plus. Cons: used books are priced high. Prices paid for selling books are next to nothing. They used to be big on donating extra books to charities but I would say if you've got books that you've thought about selling their just donate them yourself and take the deduction instead of giving them to half-price books or getting a fraction of what you could probably sell them for if you wanted to go through that hassle. This Half Price Books location would have a higher rating if it weren't for one employee who was incredibly rude to other customers and to us for no reason. We came here to sell a small box of books and do some browsing. We ended up leaving without selling our books because one employee was so unbelievably rude. I went to a different HPB location in the metroplex to sell my books and the experience was much better. If you have the option, I would recommend going to a different location for your book selling and purchases. When we arrived, we went to the selling desk and waited while the employee at the desk spoke with a customer. The customer, who was also selling books, was simply politely asking how many books they had to go through (it seemed like he was just making small talk). The employee was very rude to him, and said some heated words in response. The customer tried to something along the lines of "I was just asking out of curiosity, I am not bothered by the wait" but the employee continued to be incredibly rude and snappy with him. Eventually the customer walked away, and my brother and I felt very uncomfortable having witnessed the employee being so rude. Then, the employee turned to us and snapped something along the lines of "don't just stand there waiting around for us to notice you, come up to the desk and drop your books off", reprimanding us for waiting patiently by the book selling desk while he was speaking with the other customer. It was appalling. He said a few other things to us along the same lines in a very rude and patronizing tone of voice. We did leave the books on the cart, and began browsing in the store, but overheard him loudly complaining to another employee about the customers/book selling process. At that point, the entire experience was so negative that we decided to purchase the one book we had found, grab the books we were planning to sell, and leave. I ended up taking the books to a different HPB location to sell them. I was very hesitant to even make a purchase at that store and give them our business, but the other employees had been polite and I wasn't confident I would find the same book at another store. I will not plan to go to this location again because of the way we and other customers were treated by this particular employee. read more

I love this place and hope it stays around forever. I hate how book stores are fading away due to technology. I don't see why I would ever pay full price for a book when half price books exists! I love taking all my used books here, so they can resell/reuse them. You also usually get a buck or two to use toward a new book! They have a great selection of books and are pretty organized. The employees have always been very helpful looking up books and finding them on the shelf. This location feels much smaller than the one that used to be in Lincoln square, but it still has a ton of good product to keep me coming back! read more

I come here often, there is a great fiction section that someone could really be lost in for hours. They seem to have high traffic and so the books are always fresh, there is lots to discover. The staff was friendly, always helpful in searching for books with you, or while checking out. Parking is usually ample, watch out for entrances on Cooper, Pioneer, and Matlock as you're leaving, it's a strange intersection but what a gem to be found in the middle. There is a mailing list coupon. They are also able to hold books for you if called in advanced, usually for one day, or to the end of the day. I have found several copies of Haruki Murakami here, which is rare and always a treat. I'm holding out for a vintage cover copy of Norweigan Wood. read more

I love going to Half Price books and looking around for books and music CD's. This location on Cooper Street in Arlington is a nice store not real big but they still have a large selection of books, music and other items. The parking lot is a little hard to get into and out of a lot of cars going in and out. So pay attention that your car does not get hit. The used books are reduced to a low price that is pretty good. The trade-in is not any good you may get 25 cents or a dollar for a book you trade in. I guess that little bit of money is better than nothing. I like to look at the music CD's you can get used CD's for 1 dollar. They are located on the bottom shelves so you have to look down real low from the grown. I get a gift card for my birthday to use at Half Price Books which is a wonderful gift. It takes me a year to use all the money on the card. This is a great gift in my opinion to give someone that reads. read more

I used to go to half price books all the time until I went through and decluttered my house. I brought in 12 boxes of books and got a whole $32 for the lot of them. 5 cents on a dollar if that. Now I have a Barnes & Noble Nook. Tons of free books available. If I want to buy a book I do. They have daily deals where I can buy a book for $1.99 which even at Half Price Books it would have cost $5. Talk about saving the trees! Plus I carry all my books with me. Easy for travel too. So before you keep buying books that you'll never get any money back for, do a one time investment of $79 in Nook and save your money going forward. read more

I went in and tried to sell 15 books 6 textbooks from college (which I spent over $350 on) and they tried offering me $11.72. NEVER AGAIN. So crazy how they rip your head off when you buy college books, then you go in and try to sell them and they offer you .78c per book. I DON'T THINK SO. I think that is so bogus! I found 7/15 of the books I was selling on the shelf and they were selling them for 17.99 and up. It's ridiculous. read more

While the greatest book store remains their main one on Northwest Highway, this Arlington location that I stumbled upon after a night of Pho is a reminder of what "the quaint local neighborhood bookstore" should aspire to be. For a small store in the burbs this Half Price has a fantastic selection. There's far more here than just the "_____ for dummies" and other pop culture books. This place was good before the remodel, but now it's even better afterwards. This HFB location looks small on the outside, but it's loaded with a lot of good selections and everything's organized. I usually go to HFB for CD's, and sometimes look around to see if they have any of my favorite books. The prices for the CD's are really reasonable (I found the same CD I got at another Arlington HFB location, except the CD found at this location was $2 cheaper). I sold some books and CD's here, but didn't get much in return. Although, it's partly my fault because I'm not really good at bargaining. There's a lot of people on their staff, so it won't be hard getting some help. read more

There is a leak. Walked in and was overwhelmed by the strong, acrid smell of mildew/ammonia. It's been this way for well over one year, worse the day we came because it had rained recently. Parking lot is a nightmare. Poor visibility for pedestrians, overfull and crowded. Pavement is in terrible shape. HPB Corporate seems to have sent a signal to their stores to cut their buy price in half. Had a terrible shock at the buy counter. I couldn't hide the shock on my face and employee took it personally. Most everyone else is very nice. Cashier's are COOL. Best selection, but worst building/parking conditions of all, and I've been to nearly all. Well stocked and well priced. It's a shame. Needs some love from corporate! Most awesome thing about this bookstore is its close to the University and the selection is killer. read more

This place is ... ok. They have a wide selection of new and used books, but are still quite a bit smaller than the other Half Priced Books we have visited. They're comic selection is poop. They have a few collector comics in a case, but they are in horrible condition and in my 5+ visits to the store I haven't seen much change in the comic inventory. I love Half Priced Books as a chain and the employees at this particular store are awesome, but it was not a big win for what I was looking for. Before you buy anything, do a quick scan through the clearance section. I have found the books I had in hand from the full price in the clearance more than once. That made my day :) read more

Employees here are nice, book selection is also quite good. I am sad that they shrunk their occult section though, a few years back it was rather large. Records were easy and cheap several years ago before they became a fad/hipster thing. I was pleasantly surprised to find a latest edition university calculus text here for really cheap. Still come here to browse when I get a chance, as I can usually always get something good and it's always a nice experience. read more

I've been to quite a few Half Price Books locations, and I must say that this one impressed me. At first I was all kinds of bewildered because the store was doing some remodeling, so the fiction sections were scattered and of course reduced in size. However, despite that the selection was AMAZING. I have never, ever been in any kind of bookstore that had several books by Neil Gaiman or even a hardback edition of Dune. And a good chunk of the Discworld series? Really?! I've never seen one used before. What really took the cake, however, was two signed and numbered fancy first editions of A Feast For Crows by George R.R. Martin. Long story short my husband had to rush be out of there before we spent our savings. I can't wait to see what this location will offer when the remodeling is done (which is the main reason there are four instead of five stars for the time being). read more

This is my Half Price location. I love how small it is yet it always seem to have everything I need from old textbooks to the latest thriller novel. I once was able to find an old economics textbook for $5! It was like $40 at the UTA bookstore. The staff are really nice and sweet. I once brought in about 200 old books from the 80s and early 90s and they were more than helpful with sorting it out and were willing to donate the books that weren't worth anything to sell. I've been going here for as long as I can remember. The most recent purchase was a hardback book I bought for $7 (The Girl Who Played With Fire- Stieg Larsson), at B&N it's still on sale for $25. For something that I'll finish reading in 3 days.. $7 is a steal. Mmmm old musty book smell. I simply love this place. read more

There is better selection on various entertainment than other deep Dallas divisions of the company. Parking is rather generic and awkwardly positioned. The trade-back is always impossible to negotiate with. The music that plays in the store is also rather annoying half the time to where it distracts you from buying. read more

Do you like used stuff? Do you live on planet Earth? Then go to Half Price Books and be sure to get on the mailing list because the coupons are bananas. This store is one of the best reasons to live in the metroplex. I love both Arlington locations equally, but this one is less pretentious. The staff are happy to help you and you never know what you'll find. My favorite section is the dirty art case and you have to have an employee open it for you. Just so you're warned, you can sell your books CDs vinyl and DVDs here, but don't expect too much of a return. read more

I love this place! We are on vacation and have never seen a half price books before. I wish we had one closer to us because this is one of the most amazing stores ever!
