When you walk in, you'll get that feeling of 'where do I start?' Don't worry, it will be ok. I took my first left, skipped the RSD section (pretty big, FYI) and went to the Xmas section. It too was also big, and where it was after the holiday, I thought maybe I might be able to find some cool titles. I walked away with one record I had been looking for and another I didn't know I was looking for but surely needed. After that, I continued onto a 90s/2000s section that, from what I could tell, was a mix of multiple mainstream genres like rock, pop, hip/hop, r&b, etc. Again, we're talking about a lot of records so I made the strategic choice to only look for items on my want list. I did this for the subsequent sections (a 80s/70s combo and 60s/50s combo) and still spent most of my 2 hours in the store in this manner. It was after going through these sections that I looked to the ground with more attention, where I suspected other genres laid their claim. I ended up finding way too many records to choose from for my partner, and some other sections that again were so big that I wasn't even prepared to dive in and dig. When I was finally ready to checkout, my sister (who was also shopping with me) mentioned she had got a punch card, which gives you some money off as you spend a certain amount on used records. She offered hers up to me for my purchase. I didn't pay much attention to the exact parameters, but I got $40 off which was much appreciated (especially considering pricing, which I will get to at the end.) As I was checking out, I noticed the collector's room and took a look at that before I left the store. While there was some interesting stuff in there, none of it was anything I was really looking for (especially not at the higher range.) Back on pricing, I did have a little bit of a shock when I saw that basically every record I picked up was $30 or $35. That's definitely what I'm used to paying back home for new records but not so much for regular used vinyl. This wasn't completely surprising, as I had bought some stuff from them online before, and was certainly softened by the discounts I got at the register but something to keep in mind before you go. Also, I think the pricing is also a function of the store being a bit of one-stop shop with its size. Finally, there is stuff other than vinyl (in fact, A LOT of CDs, as well as tapes, 8-track, etc.) but I wasn't looking for any of that so I didn't shop it. However, if you're into multiple media formats it should be all the more appealing. Happy record shopping!

The staff there are super chill and very knowledgeable on what they have, don't hesitate to ask! Also, the value of most records are great, I have seen a few that may be over priced but every place is not going to be super cheap. BUYER BEWARE: Unlike every other record store in DFW they make it nearly impossible to use the…read morediscount card once earned. I've spent hundreds of dollars here but have never once been able to use my cards. 1) Card can't be used the same day you spend $100, have to come back 2) If you comeback and have an older card, they won't accept, 3) If you have more than one card you have to come back to use them individually, 4) Actual discount is only 15% off ONE item (under $100) while every other store gives a set dollar amount off from points earned, so cheap! Both employees got mad at me for trying to use my cards, owner refused to reply. No respect for regular customers.

I didn't have nearly the time I wanted to browse through their stacks of comics or their vintage vinyl. But just talking to Dale briefly he zeroed in on my likes and went to the back room to pull out a trilogy of collectible Spider-man comics and cut me a deal on the three. They seem to like people who share their passion for comics. And if you're just learning or looking to learn more these are your guys -- just give yourself some time to browse and explore.

I had a little artsy collage project to put together and needed random magazines to peruse... well Half Price is the perfect place to get them. They had an amazing assortment of all kinds of magazines, too many to choose from! The staff is always sweet and I love to look at whatever random vintage and collector's books they have. It always feels good to shop secondhand and I'll forever be a patron of Half Price Books, my favorite chain bookstore.

As someone into vinyl for the past 10 years I'd like to give all shops 5-stars, but this spot…read moredoesn't quite hit for a few reasons. Biggest issue is price, most titles under $30 are about 20-40% more expensive than shops close by (Doc's, Josey, CD Trader) and the common, lower priced stuff can be found at just about every Half Price books for, well, half the price. Collectible record prices are quite high also, often at the top range of Discogs. I've seen the same records in this section for over a year so it looks like I'm not the only one not buying at these prices. Also, if I can get it shipped to my door for the same price, why am I coming here? I've also noticed that condition on used records is not as high as elsewhere, and records noted with "condition" issues here are ones that are questionable to even sell (warped/thrashed records). With so many other stores close by in DFW with more selection and better prices, I don't find this shop to be high on my list, mainly because I just never leave with anything. Really friendly staff though and a surprisingly deep selection given the size. Price and standards have got to be improved here.
