I had a little artsy collage project to put together and needed random magazines to peruse... well Half Price is the perfect place to get them. They had an amazing assortment of all kinds of magazines, too many to choose from! The staff is always sweet and I love to look at whatever random vintage and collector's books they have. It always feels good to shop secondhand and I'll forever be a patron of Half Price Books, my favorite chain bookstore.

There's a kids' section, a café, chairs and benches for reading, all sorts of books, magazines, decorative bookmarks, and fun seasonal displays with games, interactive toys, etc. Employee at the register was super friendly, even when I was being an indecisive pain in the butt. She helped me enroll in the reward program, which thankfully had none of the red tape or extensive mining of personal info most places try and squeeze out of you. Prices here are straight up average, which is a good thing. You're not getting clearance bin junk, and you're also not getting shrinkflation. The prices for books and magazines are also already attached to the books and magazines themselves, printed on the front or back cover, so you'd be able to tell if they were marking up like so many other places love to do. As depressing as this mall is now, this bookstore and the downstairs arcade are the two stand-out gems.

And they have quite the collection, ranging from the classics, to local authors, to kids books, to trending best-sellers, to books celebrating the differently abled. The store even had the old school Atari game console with the fake wood trim. I don't know what it is called but I know I had one and it was about as advanced as I ever needed. They also have vinyl from the most amazing game soundtracks, local traditional art, stickers and decals as well as plush and accessories from your favorite games. They even have a console museum in the rear of the store that displays all the old gaming systems. Even if you purchase NOTHING it's a fun place to go and explore but you'd be a fool to not get anything. Priced to sell and pretty fair. PRO TIP: Also if you are having issues with a disc game playing, they charge a very small fee to resurface discs!

BUYER BEWARE: Unlike every other record store in DFW they make it nearly impossible to use the…read morediscount card once earned. I've spent hundreds of dollars here but have never once been able to use my cards. 1) Card can't be used the same day you spend $100, have to come back 2) If you comeback and have an older card, they won't accept, 3) If you have more than one card you have to come back to use them individually, 4) Actual discount is only 15% off ONE item (under $100) while every other store gives a set dollar amount off from points earned, so cheap! Both employees got mad at me for trying to use my cards, owner refused to reply. No respect for regular customers.

Not sure how I feel about that other than mislead. Even if this isn't the purpose of adding another price tag, it sure feels like it to the customer. You can't check the sticker before buying unfortunately since it's under the shrink wrap. This isn't the first time this has happened to me.

I have spent a lot of money in this store over the years even when they were in Irving. I purchased…read moresomething 2 days ago and decided it wouldn't work for me so I tried to return it. It was still in the box with the factory seal and they wouldn't refund my money. They have a lot of cool stuff there but their customer service sucks and I won't be going back. They aren't the only hobby shop around and lost my business and I won't recommend them to anyone anymore.
