This boardgame store probably has EVERY HOT GAME on BGG.com and accessories if you are a boardgame head. I used to buy at Barnes & Noble and Amazon, but this place has a much better price and promotions. Although not my thing, this store has a section for Warhammers, D&D, and living card games. It also hosts tournaments and game demos, of which schedule can be found on the store website or social. The only minus point is there is no shipping if you're from out of town. My husband and I have been coming to CGG since its tiny location a couple doors down. In fact, we bought our first major board game from them when we found the hobby. Now, we walk in and are greeted by name and feel like family. They always have the best selection of "cult of the new" as well as old favorites and the prices are great! The place is cool. They have a lot of board games to choose from. The prices are about the same on Amazon. I can't say for everything, but only for a few items I checked when I was there. You can spend hours looking around, testing out various games. They have a good selection of trading cards, but trading with them is complicated. They have some weird rules. They consider every card as lightly played, even though it could look brand new. They said because for legal reasons, but it's a loophole they use to give you less for your cards. Before you give them the card, they have to be unsleeved. They will have the card unsleeved. Again, they said for legal reasons, but while they have the card unsleeved. Aren't they more likely to damage the card? Which contradicts their own rule? Then, if they damage the card, they will be at fault. Then, they will only look at a certain number of cards at a time. Then, to see a card you like, you have to go to their kiosk or website and find the card. Then order it and mark it under pay in store. Then you can look at the card. The staff was friendly, but the lady manager with the short blue hair was mean. When I talking to the guy who was comping my cards( He was a great guy, I forgot his name. I apologize), she came up rude and pointed out how many cards they would look at. I told her, " I think I should be ok, but I might be over like 2 or 3 maybe. Then she said rudely," You need to find out fast". I told her nicely that if I get close to that count, then I will figure something out. Then she said again, rudely, You need to know now. But overall, she is not a nice Lady. Do I recommend this place? For board games. Yes. Back in the day, this was the place for Magic. For trading cards for store credit or cash, they have a cool selection. They do buy from a wide range of different card games, but it's complicated to trade with them. If they make it easy, just plain and simple then yes, otherwise I would go somewhere else. read more

Staff were super friendly and had a good mix of answering questions/leaving you alone. Store also had a large area for people to bring in games and play and a couple of tables were occupied when we were shopping. Also large selection of games...but I was there for the dice. This place has the most extensive selection of dice I've seen in a gaming store. They have special dice in a counter and the usual set of Chessex/other common brands in aisles. I'm from Houston and we stopped in on St. Patrick's Day while we were visiting Dallas for the weekend to check out the games. This place has one of the largest game selections I've seen; I could have stayed in the store for hours. Alas, the restrooms were out of order, so staying for hours wasn't an option that day, but I'm not knocking any stars off for that: things happen. Now, here's the best back (at least for me)... They had a NEW version of Clank! called Clank! Catacombs and, even more importantly, it was less expensive than Amazon or another popular game website! And not just a little less expensive, but between $9 and $20 respectively. So, of course, I bought it. Did I mention that I love Clank!? It's a great deck-building game and I'm stoked to try this new version. Oh, and they have a rewards program! So I'll definitely be back. read more

unpleasant surrounding (2 garbage vending machines, usually in poor operative status, warm, diffident if not straight-up rude staff of CGG that seem to take their customers for granted) and seem resentful when asked for help. They generally seem resentful whenever they interact with customers The obnoxious owner has banned me from his store for speaking the truth. As if thats supposed to hurt me. The only reason I continued to go at all was a friday game where I could maintain connection with a small group of good friends and people. Now I have way stronger connections with all them far outside of CGG. I always hated the uncomfortable, miserable customer-unfriendly environment. Jameson Sacks is the reason his staff are jerks. He sets and always has set the tone of greed , opportunism in squeezing the lgbtq community as a cash cow for him, and putting the customer last. I am ashamed to say he is part of the lgbtq community. I expect better from us. I look forward to enjoying my gaming at the numerous far better (and frankly for me, way closer) gaming venues and stores with better selection and friendlier people If you are ever into gaming do yourselves a favor and avoid Common Ground Games like the plague. This is my favorite game store. They have a selection of games, and many games are set up around the store for customers to interact with. They are open late, so customers can play games at the tables provided in the store. The employees are very helpful and always offer assistance. They have a rewards program that gives $5 off for every $100 spent. This store is suitable for all ages and has kid's games and stuffed animals. OMG I LOVE THIS PLACE. I love this place so much that I'd be willing buy a board game here even if Amazon (or other online stores) had the same game cheaper, just so I can help support this store. I purchased a necropotence anime borderless and bought a pack and some cool dice. I opened the pack and didn't pay much attention to my single bc usually they are right and even though ive had them give me the wrong card or print twice and charge me for what I tried to buy it wasn't a huge deal bc it was less than 5-10. so I get home and go to put the necro into my deck I'm blinging out and take it out of the extra glossy sleeve to see it's not foil. i call up there and get someone who's really friendly but basically says I have to come up there to get a refund and or the difference. I tell him I have to go far out of my way (30 miles/ 50 minutes) to get there so could I send a picture or just get store credit since I go there very often and have spent thousands there and he said no I'd have to come up then notates the clerk who grabbed my card says it was foil. I'm annoyed at being called a liar now and just politely get off the phone and go to check prices and then I realize I got charged 25 more than what a non foil should've been but now I have to drive 50 minutes and basically lose my money to get it foil considering it would be two trips to and two trips home after. otherwise a great store and def worth shopping and checking out but I heavily recommend individually checking cards as I'm going to do so now when purchasing singles considering I've been overcharged about $40-$50 now... POST REVIEW: owner refunded me within 20 minutes upon review and now I feel like a gigachad. As I said before it's a great store and only issues I've had is with singles and I should've checked it but just didn't bc they're almost always right. Recently visited and boy was I impressed! The dice selection was excellent, especially the ones made of semi-precious stones! The miniature collection for D&D, pathfinder, and Star Wars was pretty good as well. I checked out this game store while on a business trip and was pleased with their space and selection. I was able to find a few games not stocked at my local game store which was fun and unexpected as I am pretty jaded about this stuff. The staff I interacted with was amiable and funny. Not pushy but present and engaged when I had any questions or concerns. They also informed me that they offer demos and some open board gaming on certain days (Thursday's when I was there in 2017) in a large playing area partitioned from the merchandise section of the store. This had the added benefit of reducing the noise level in the shopping area. I recommend dropping in if you are around. Also, there is a nice comic and toy shop right next door to them if you'd like to scratch two need itches for the price of one trip :) read more

CGG is one of my favorite local hangouts - and not just because I adore Jamison and DR! It's conveniently located right off of I-35 (and next door to Zeus Comics). The patrons are so friendly and I have so much fun there, that I've been indulging in a long-forgotten, guilty pleasure - Magic the Gathering. I used to play casually, long, long ago with a handful of pals. I've become a semi-regular at FNM and drafts. They've also started a Tuesday night Commander league with great prize support. The people that play there are so helpful and they don't get bent out of shape when I make the inevitable play mistake. If Magic isn't your thing, they have a huge demo wall full of games for people to try. Jamison is really great at teaching people new games. There's also a demo night on Wednesdays where the über patient and knowledgeable Professor Michael demos and plays new games. He's taught me almost every game I know! They also run tournaments for Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Heroclix, and other games that I can't remember off the top of my head. You get the idea...there's always fun stuff going on! If you subscribe to the newsletter, or follow the store on Facebook, they keep you updated on all the upcoming events, sales, and new merchandise. I've gotten some great deals, like MTG starter packs for $10 and Shadowhunters for 30% off on Halloween. I always earn $5 off rewards too, with their free loyalty program. Oh, and the MTG singles are competitively priced as well. I scored some great gifts around the holidays and Jamison even got them wrapped for me. He's such a peach! Even though the store is small, the selection is great because the owners are gamers themselves. Additionally, they have tons of games available to play in a large open gaming area. Woo! I've been searching for a place like this in Dallas for a while. After frequenting Emerald Tavern in Austin, I was eager to find another board game venue. Common Ground Games offers a wide variety of board games (from your serious D&D to your silly Sushi Go). Half of the store is for selling board games and the other half is devoted to playing board games. There is ample seating, and their games library is extensive! You can come here to try out one of their demo games on the shelf, and if you enjoy it you can purchase a new one in store. I've never felt pressure to purchase, and the staff is friendly. I do encourage purchasing from them so you're not just freeloading heh. Their rewards program sounds pretty cool too: I think it was $10 off every $100 you spend, a discount on your birthday, and it's free to join! They also host Magic and Pokemon tournaments so keep your eyes out on their website. Common Ground Games is a great place to spend time with friends and try new games.
