Both were delicious, I always prefer leek over potato but that's my preference both were amazing. I also ordered the mantoo which was cooked to perfection and the afghan rice with lamb shank which is essentially khabuli pualo was also delicious. The lady who was running the spot was the sweetest lady ever she included an extra plate for us the Chapli kabob, which was exceptional! I was not expecting it to be this good!!! the meat was so so tender I thought it was lamb! Definitely going to be my regular spot! So happy to have found this gem! Also keep in mind this food is FRESH and made to order so factor in that it's not a drive through joint and the food isn't just sitting out, there is one lady running the store and cooking so be patient you won't be disappointed. Halal Kitchen Cafe is located in a small plaza, and parking is fairly easy to find. I ordered online, and the wait time estimate was off by 10 minutes, so I ended up waiting inside for 10 minutes. For food, I had the Chicken Afghani Plate, which was one of the more popular items here. The chicken was good, though a bit on the tougher end. The hummus-like dip (Shor Nakhod?) was more runny than hummus but easier to eat and scoop for the hummus. The side salad was tasty but on the more sour end. The service itself was pretty dismissive. When the food was read, it was bagged and dropped on the counter - not a single word. Immediately, the lady turned her back for a full minute while working on the tablet. The interior was also not my favorite to wait in. The door was wide open, which is fine, but the interior had a nest of bugs and flies. Had a really great experience at Halal Kitchen Cafe. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care--everything tasted authentic and comforting. What really stood out though was the service. There's an elderly Afghani lady there who is incredibly sweet and welcoming. She makes you feel right at home, like you're being taken care of by family. Delicious!! We brought our Afghan friends here and it was perfect because we needed halal food. Not only was it Halal, but it was so yummy!! I would give it 5 stars but it was so pricey, I just wish it was slightly cheaper. (They range about $19-22 per a plate) The lady was very friendly and did everything herself! We stumbled upon this amazingly tasty place today and just had dinner. It was so tasty. So so tasty. Great quality. The owner is a nice older lady who is the hostess and chef. The restaurant has a small dining area that can fit maybe around 20-25 people. The lamb shank plate with kaboli rice and the Mantu are top notch. She old enough to be your grandma, but still keeps going, so have some patience with her. This lady makes amazing food, it's home made and fresh, it's not Taco Bell where you get your food FAST. The owner was soo sweet! We walked in, asked what's good, and she made some recommendations. She brought us a Bolani on the house and damn; Impressive. This is a decent place to eat however they do not have any lunch specials and that put me off. They do have a nice drink variety and their menu has several options. I got the Gyro sandwich which came out to $7.64. It tasted good too. Parking was easy to find but the staff were not very helpful and dry. I asked what lunch deals they had and the worker looked at me and said "we don't have any", talk about personality! The female who was the cook was outside shouting on her phone and I thought she was homeless because she was by the dumpster. The food is their redeeming quality because when I go out to eat I expect a snails and some sort of customer service. She was pleasant and walked me through their menu, the ingredients and how each dish is prepared. I ended up ordering: Lamb Bukhari - the marinated lamb shank was tender, did not have a gamey taste, and came with hot chili sauce and raita yogurt on the side; it would be fantastic if there were some gravy or sauce from the lamb on the side :) Chicken Souvlaki - the NICE portion of skewered chicken was perfectly seasoned, tender and cooked perfectly; came with chopped salad, hummus, pita bread and house chutney. Mix Kobida Plate - a combo of charbroiled ground sirloin beef and charbroiled ground chicken prepared with onions and spices, both were a little bit on the dry side; came with chopped salad, hummus, pita bread and house chutney. All 3 dishes came with afghani rice which was fragrant and flavorful. LOVED it! The lady also shared that they will be serving buffet for the holiday Ramadan in May starting the 15th I believe? First time here and I got to say the food was amazing. I never had Afhgan food before so this was a treat, I got their chicken afhgani because I like chicken and the price was right. For some reason their chicken afhgani was $11.99 on Doordash but $13.99 in person, whatever the reason I'll take it. I made my way there to pick up my order and wasn't greeted by anyone, all I saw was two women talking then going to the back barely starting to prepare my food. A few more minutes of waiting she eventually came out and shoo me away, such customer service. As I said I never had earlier I never had Afhgan food before and came here without any reference. I don't know what kind of rice they use but it's one of the most flavorful rice I had in a while and add a hint of sweetness from the raisin this was a winner. The two sides accompanying this dish was fresh tabouli, hummus with some powder and half of a pita bread to dip. Now for that chicken! the sauce spread on the chicken was a flavor I never had before and I can't get enough of that green sauce. Sadly it's time to address the customer service, should I say lack of. Even though I placed my order through DD which limited my interaction with staff but I can tell they wanted me out asap. I had a very bad experience when ordering from this restaurant. I ordered take out through Door Dash, but when I arrived there was a single, elderly woman working at the restaurant. When I showed her that the restaurant confirmed the order, she nonchalantly said "Oh I didn't confirm! I didn't confirm, you're order is not here." Door Dash called her twice to try to resolve the issue, but she was unable to understand or just plain refused to fix it on her end. I ended up getting credits from Door Dash for a future order. My question is, what kind of owner allows an old woman to run a restaurant all by herself? If she is the owner, why is her family so incompetent that they don't relieve her of the burden?
