a plate of food on a table
    Twee D.

We came here around 1:45 PM on a Saturday. The place was empty, but that was no biggie since I assume the lunch crowd was gone. Waiter was seated us and took our order promptly. We ordered the ground beef kabobs and chicken breast kabobs. Two beef skewers were inside the gigantic bread with a grilled tomato. The price is around $15. The chicken breast kabob was one lonely skewer. I was expecting two. Haha! Orders come with the bread, but if you want basmati rice then it's $1 extra. We ordered one of each. The quality of the meat is really good and the rice was cooked nicely. The bread was really good! It has sesame seeds in it and there is a pleasant nuttiness and chewiness. Food came out in a reasonable time and we really enjoyed our meal. If we are ever in the neighborhood again, we would give this place a second go.

omg, if you like Persian food or you like Kabobs in general you absolutely must eat in this place. The place is a little far from ventura blvd but that makes it a hidden GEM! I rate this place 5 Golden Stars , the BEST and I mean the BEST Koobideh I have ever tasted anywhere in the world. They catered a party for me last week, 200 people all loved the food and couldn't get enough of it.

Not sure how to review the place its a mixture of good and bad . The restaurant seem to be run by a family , a mom a daughter ( maybe ) and a gentleman who can maybe the husband or the owner or the waiter I can't tell . I love family run restaurants and I wish I could give a better review but here is my observation : Gentleman taking the order was a bit confused about what we ordered , came back a few times to repeat it and had a hard time understanding that we wanted BOTH the humus and the eggplant as appetizer ( could've been a language thing ) . I asked if they had a special drink he offered the yogurt- mint drink that we often see in middle eastern markets and restaurants . I didn't really understand when he said " yoghurt" first so I asked if it had milk in it to make sure we are talking about the same thing? He insisted it doesn't have milk so I asked him to bring out a one bottle and the first ingredient was listed as milk on the back of the bottle . So I stuck to water . So we ordered : appetizer humus and eggplant and a cucumber salad and a mixed plate of food that listed the usual minced beef and minced chicken and chicken chicken kabob and fish kabob on the menu . Food came out wrong , instead the eggplant we got some mixed pickled vegetables . The lady who may be the owner ... quickly took it back ( the gentleman from before walked out at this point and never came back ) and 5 min later brought out the eggplant . Which was very good by the way I have to give it 4.4-5 stars . Humus 3.5- 4 stars cucumber salad 4 stars . The main meal came and when I looked at it I could not identify the fish and I pointed to something that I hoped was the fish and so I asked the lady ....she answered : " that's beef we don't have fish ". Dear waiter , please tell the customer up front if you don't have an item that day . Dear owner tell the waiter what is missing from the menu . I don't eat red meat and the whole reason we ordered the mixed place is because of the fish . There was no apology or nothing simply " we don't have it ". Part of the rice was under cooked and hard. Part was good. Also the dead animal skins on the wall should come down its unappetizing .

My favorites are their kabobs and different modifications (think sour berries) of generous amounts of basmati rice that accompany their entrees. The Mast O' Mooseer (yoghurt with shallots) is another of my must haves. Generally, I always get the koobideh kabob to go, but this time, I was in the mood to sit down and have some chunks of meat. I chose the Shish Kabob, which is advertised as grilled filet mignon pieces. The restaurant prepares it medium well and past experience revealed it to be dry and tough. So I asked for it medium rare, for the first time. The dish that came to my table had marvelous optics. The beef was well charred, had an intoxicating aroma and well distributed coloring amongst the seven generous pieces. But there were a few problems. For one, I could not comfortably cut into the beef without using excess force, and shredding it. I asked for a sharper (steak) knife and was told that was all they had. While the meat was juicy, it was extremely chewy. I even questioned whether it was filet mignon, because it did not look and behave like it. I was told it was. If that was the case, could it have been a bad cut? This substantiates why I am leery about ordering meat pieces. Amongst the other items, the thick creamy yoghurt did not disappoint. Same with the grilled onion and tomato. The saffron rice is always fluffy and abundant. The green salad was crisp and refreshing. Take home message? Looks like I will have to skip the Shish Kabob and stick only with the koobideh, if I am ever in the mood for skewered grilled beef.

I prefer pita sandwiches that are cut open and stuffed, rather than rolled up like a burrito the way they do here; the latter compresses everything together into a mush and can drip the contents out the back end, which is exactly what happened when I tried eating this one. This would matter less if the felafel were really good, but these were almost completely tasteless and mushy, no nice crisp exterior. In fact, they were falling apart as I was eating. The hummus was okay. Not bad, but nothing special. And the pita bread they included with it was cold, not warm and fresh. Maybe there are other items on the menu that justify the five star reviews. But the felafel and hummus certainly do not, and I'm not sure I'd want to experiment further.
