Picked up another bone bag from the Asian Spot and it was a significantly smaller size. I was told it's because beef prices have risen. At first I was a little downhearted by the size, but honestly the amount of bones I received is still a hearty amount, I have some of the bones simmering in the crock pot now making some bone broth. I never really looked around the store before today, and actually there's allot of things in the store that I want to purchase, I saw that they sell bags of Samosas, and lots of other delicious looking foods that I plan to try on my next visit. read more

Asian Spot is a Pakistani grocery, meat market and hot food store (with hardly any in-dining seating), located at the junction of Tampa and Roscoe. Their hot menu is limited, but covers all the hallmarks of well known Pakistani favorites. Carry out is the way to go. They also have a hot case with samosas (prepared like they really should, with a crisp but thin outer dough wrap). Intoxicating aroma. No thick dough. The accent is on the filling. Here the ground beef, the ground chicken are very mild, but there are no fillers, you can absorb the freshness. Goat samosas are unique, hard to find. Yet my first experience was a surprise. The goat meat is ground, that is okay. But the filling was cold, even had ice particles, exuded cold water. Clearly made from a frozen batch of meat. Another first. These appetizers lack clout in spices, hence miss the mark. Somehow, the potato samosas are the best. The chicken empanada, in my opinion, overtakes the chicken samosa in texture, flavor and overall taste. Chicken Biriyani is good, but needs consistency in flavor, color, fragrance and intensity. The green chutney and raita that accompany these dishes are different and unremarkable. Seekh Kabob (two of them to an order), while well priced, were dry and bland. In spite of this, food here is prepared fresh daily (not the goat samosa), halal and diverse. There is no fish. Service is exceptional. read more

I come here for the veggie samosas. The meat ones are good as well, also the other goodies. Tons of different spices. Always polite kind and fast service. Not really a dine in spot. Friendly customer service, every time! We love getting the beef bone for soups, hotpot, pho, and broth. I always get some beef bone marrow as well. It's perfectly cut and great quality. My husband and son also tried their different empanadas. The chicken and curry were a little spicy but packed with flavor that you don't really need that green dipping sauce. Someone bought samosas to a party at our house and the best samosas ever (vegetarian, chicken, beef) about $1.50 each (?). So, we made sure when we were in the area to find this spot. It is in a mini mall area, found parking quickly and they have other dishes aside from samosas and it is actually a mini-grocery store with East Asian items (pana puri, tamarind sauce, etc.). Unhygienic and Uncomfortable Experience We were looking for a new halal place and were excited to find the wide array of dishes, but were quickly disappointed by the behavior of the owners. We found a short hair on top of our goat biryani when we opened the box. Quietly bringing this to the owner's attention, he initially denied seeing it. His wife then used a bent, questionable fork from behind the register to stir the food, insisting it was just an onion. It was such an uncomfortable and uninviting situation, leaving us unsure how to respond. We ate the other dish we ordered and left. Despite this, we paid the full bill and will not be returning. Technically a small ethnic grocery store with halal meat counter and kitchen. Their meat samosas are to-die for. They have goat, beef, chicken, or potato. They also have what we would call baked empanadas and stuffed puff pastry as well, but our family craves the fried samosas. Yes, they are oily; no, I have never had heartburn or any other signs of fried-in-the-old-oil and I have sensitive stomach. Kitchen is on-site and also offers typical Northern-India / Pakistani fare that is mostly ordered "to go" and by the "from there" people, so it must be authentic and region-specific. Chutney for sure is - very different from Anarbagh and very spicy hot-and-sour for the average American taste, so be warned. Small little grocery/butcher shop. Came for a Too Good To Go pickup and the young man at the front threw in some free samosas for us. Those samosas ... soooooooo good and flavorful. The dipping sauces had a kick too, I will definitely come back to try more of the prepared food. read more

Sexual harassment experience I was so excited after just recently moving in right around the corner from this store. My wife and I have gone in there a bunch of times together and I even made some food for them to try (I'm a chef and previous restaurant owner) My wife just went in the other day without me for the first time. The owner's son who has helped my wife and I on previous occasions was inappropriate, disrespectful and even asked her for her phone number which obviously made her very uncomfortable especially since he knows she's married. When I went in to talk to him about what happened and how he made her feel he just tried to justify, took no responsibility for his behavior and even told me if I didn't like it then don't shop there anymore. The owner, his father, said nothing and just stood there in silence. So unprofessional!! Being a family owned and operated business I'm very disappointed and in complete disbelief! I had placed an order over the phone for some meat from the butcher, and long story short, I had missed 4 pieces of chicken leg quarter when I went to go pick it up. When I came home and noticed, I called Asian Spot and let them know that I didn't have items from my order. Immediately, Owais offered to refund it or DROP IT OFF TO OUR HOME (which he was genuinely happy to do)! How nice is that?! He asked me to give him a courtesy call later on in the evening so that he would remember to bring it with him as he left for the day. There food isn't good plus mostly full of bones. But what makes it so bad is that they cheap out if you do take out or catering. It does NOT look presentable. So be prepared to have to make the food look like someone actually cared what they were making instead of just throwing everything together. And they seem to not mind mixing beef, lamb and mutton together so you can get out the door. Better inspect before you leave the store. Best to pick a few hours before so just in case they try and swindle you into taking what they have, you have a back up. Now onto the food - Superb grilled chicken tikka boneless that was succulent and tasty. The nans and samosas are great as well. I tried the beef kheema which was alright and the paya masala was not so great. Yet to try to chicken tikka masala gravy. It isn't too expensive a place.
