I like this somewhat hidden Taiwanese place serving sizzling plates, rice plates, and noodles. Pretty basic place with basic service but the food is delicious. I had the land and sea combo with the filet mignon and the garlic prawns with spaghetti. It was really good! Had the mix pepper and mushroom sauce with it. The popcorn chicken gets a lot of reviews but I thought it was just okay. Not a big place so we had to wait about 15 minutes on a Sunday night.
Came here after running with some friends. Glad that we stopped by because it's very hard to find taiwanese food around the area especially since I moved to oc from 626. Not only everything's so good and I can't wait to come back, the staff, who's also the son of the owner, is so kind and attentive! Everything that we order is so good, love the Hakka vermicelli! I grew up with Hakka noodle, so it just reminds me of my childhood. Fried rice is awesome too, portion is big we had to take them home. Shaved ice also hits the spot, always love taiwanese shaved ice. It's definitely mom n pop shop that you can't miss out. It's truly hidden gem with homey and welcoming vibe. Parking is plenty in the plaza as well. They also sell frozen food from local community and I wanna get them next time!
I was so bummed when this restaurant had closed down for a while, but was even more excited to find out they were back! They had a different name before, but this was a constant childhood spot my friends & I would visit to get some nice comfort Taiwanese food. We would normally get their steak dinners whenever we'd visit, but whenever I'd get a craving for popcorn chicken, it had to be from them. So of course, I had to order this for my first time back, and it was just like I remember - the chicken is juicy, crispy, and perfectly seasoned while not being overly oily. The service is just as it was before, very quick and polite, and the restaurant is a decent size, it's a great spot to dine in or take out, it doesn't get too noisy in here. There's also plenty of parking in this plaza. Definitely going to come back for the steak some time!
Can I be honest? I ended up liking Hakka Brothers way more than I expected, and I'll definitely be coming back. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly clean the restaurant was. You can tell it's family-owned and operated, and even more importantly, that they take a lot of pride in what they've built. During our visit, we had the chance to meet the owner's son, and that only reinforced that feeling. He was genuinely proud of the restaurant and shared a little of its history with us, which made the experience feel even more personal. I ordered the filet mignon with the pepper sauce, and it was excellent. If you're looking for a high-end steakhouse experience without paying high-end steakhouse prices, this place is absolutely worth checking out. I'll definitely be back. It's always nice finding a great local business, especially one that's right here in Artesia. Highly recommend!
Looking for a sizzling steak plate that is a full meal that includes a corn soup, 2 pieces of garlic bread, and choice of spaghetti noodles or rice? Then no need to go to Pepper Lunch, go to the city of Artesia off of Norwalk Blvd. and enjoy a classic reinvention of what was once Formosan is now Hakka Brother! I love their mixed sauce which is their trademark of a black pepper and mushroom sauce combined. The steak entree also comes with an overeasy egg and the whole meal is both satisfying and filling, great steak escape for any steak lover that likes their steaks sizzling and hot. The dumplings with garlic chive and pork were a great addition to our meal, however I was so full that I had to take some leftovers home. So make Hakka Brother your brother from another mother and enjoy your meal!
Nice mom and son store with great Taiwanese food and even greater authentic Taiwanese restaurant experience! Came here for the first time and was immediately greeted and seated by Taiwan ma. Her Taiwanese hospitality is both straight forward and honest. She didn't want me sitting right next to the door to avoid the cold draft. I also returned my Taiwanese honesty mentioning not wanting to take up a bigger table for just 1 person. Looked through the menu and chose the filet mignon rare. She looked shocked for the rare request and we gently negotiated for a 5（分）out of 10 10 being well done. Meaning medium. The food came and it was great. Medium was perfect amount of rare as Taiwan ma knew it would be. Perhaps American scale and Taiwanese scale are different and I'm the fool for not knowing. With the tenderness of the meat and the flavors of the mushroom gravy working in symphony, I was in texture and flavor heaven. The corn chowder and 2 slices of French garlic bread before was also perfect in every way from simple presentation to the crispness of the toast to how well the chowder soaked into the bread with a dip. Amazing. Taiwan son talked to me about Pokémon cards and Taiwan ma talked about sleep disorders and some happenings in the community. You can tell she really cares about her customers and their wellbeing. She reminds me of who I try to be as a dentist playing doctor in my community and I called her a food doctor as a compliment! Earlier, I heard Taiwan son talk about dating woman of different nationalities and Taiwan ma told her son in passing that I have an Indian wife! As if I could be a source of wisdom in interracial relationships. I'm not. While this maybe a source of awkwardness for some, this Taiwanese banter warms my heart and makes me wish I live nearby to come see them every week! Maybe I can be her son's wing man and help him catch some foreign game? Haha sorry for bleeding that Taiwanese banter onto the virtual Yelp pages. Taiwan ma told me the history of her journey opening the original store in Rowland heights, then moving here. Sold the place in 2018 and just reclaimed the restaurant in November of 2025. The restaurant was previously known as Formosan Restaurant and has gone through few ownership changes, but the original founding owner of Formosan Restaurant returned and rebranded it as Hakka Brother. [Parking]: Small and free parking within the strip mall and I had no issue finding an available spot. [Atmosphere]: Casual dine-in restaurant with no outdoor patio area. [Menu]: Hakka Brother specializes in Taiwanese-style teppan sizzling steaks. Each teppan steak order comes with your choice of protein, cream corn soup, two slices of garlic bread, and your choice of sauce (black pepper, mushroom, or mixed). In addition, they also offer other classic Taiwanese dishes and some of the top Yelp highlights include A01 Popcorn Chicken and A07 Crispy Fried Tofu. They also have rice plates and noodle options. I have heard the menu is similar to Formosan Restaurant's menu. *** D03 Pork chop (teppanyaki - $19.99): I can't say I was overly obsessed with this dish, but I thought it tasted pretty decent. *** I am always happy to have another Taiwanese restaurant option in Los Angeles County and I can see myself coming back to try other items on the menu.
Drove out of my way to come try authentic Taiwanese food and this establishment did not disappoint. The restaurant is small but clean and the staff are very friendly. I got the staple dish of minced pork with rice. The pork is finely chopped and comes with a hard boiled egg. I love cutting the egg in half and soaking it with the pork broth to give it that nice salty taste to the yolk inside. It was nice to include a side of tomatoes and eggs, which I always enjoy as a dish on its own. This was a nice sized meal for the price. The place gets my recommendation.
A great overall Taiwanese restaurant. U live the braised beef noodle and Hakka style vermicelli, along with the minced pork over rice. The staff speaks both Chinese and English; she was very nice. The ambiance is casual and bright (not too many tables inside so get there early). Highly recommended!
It's been so hot the past few days that a shaved snow treat was very appealing. Got the pork chop rice plate, served with a crispy cucumber and daikon salad, bamboo shoots sautéed in pork and a soy sauce egg. The pork chop was crispy and tender. The salt and pepper mushrooms were better the last time I was here- I think the batter may have been a little heavy and the slices needing to be thinner? My companions got the rib eye on a hot sizzling platter and the boiled pork soup. The steak was tender but needed to be more seasoned, the pasta side dish had a sauce that seemed more like a ketchup flavor, maybe unnecessarily. Quick kitchen churned out food for everyone else who was having dinner this busy Thursday night. Good thing they are open late. We ended with a milk flavored shave ice with chopped mango and topped with mochi bits, we added caramel pudding. Though refreshing, I wanted the shaved ice to be more sweet! Quiet background music and minimal decor. No large screen TV. Affordable and filling meals.
Authentic and nostalgic Taiwanese food, we've been to many iterations of restaurants from the mom and son duo since I was in elementary school. There's a large variety of appetizers and main dishes, and the shaved ice machine is officially working now! Portion sizes are large and prices are reasonable. My favorite is the oyster pancake--chewy with crispy edges, and the sauce is exactly right (a little sour, savory, and sweet). You can build your own shaved ice will different options for the ice base (milk, mango, matcha, taro)--we opted for mango with boba, pudding, and taro balls. Highly recommend if you miss Taiwanese flavors and hospitality. Plenty of parking, space inside is bright and clean.
Food - fried pork shop perfectly cooked; not too salty or under seasoned, just right. Normally, I'm not big into veggies, but the cold celery and carrot was refreshing and balanced out the pork chop. Rice is always a good pallete clenser for the pork and chicke for me. They also had good condiments on the table such as soy sauce, salt, pepper and hot sauce. Service- quick and polite. Food was out in less than 15 minutes Ambiance - typical mom and pop shop. Simple and to the point. No frills. Restroom- did not use. Cleanliness- i was satisfied with what I saw. Tables are clean ans not sticky like some places Ive been to. Parking - was plenty on a Sunday afternoon.
Finally found a spot that serves teppan-style plates in this area and it totally exceeded our expectations! The menu has a great variety, and everything we ordered was honestly so good. Portions are generous, super filling, and definitely worth the price. We tried the teppan steak & fish combo, 香腸飯, popcorn chicken, fried mushrooms, every dish came out flavorful and well-cooked. No misses at all. Plus, parking is super convenient with plenty of space available.
A purely Taiwanese restaurant serving up some Taiwanese classics in Cerritos. From the moment you walk in, the staff, overall ambiance, decor, beverage options, and menu items all scream Taiwan. The staff was friendly, conversational, and personable, and honestly reminded me a lot of what I experience when I go home to Taiwan. The food was also solid. Authentic and satisfying, especially when I'm missing this style of food. True Taiwanese food isn't as commonly found here in the U.S., and this is definitely one of the places that delivers that authentic taste. Parking was easy, and there was only a short wait to get inside. It usually doesn't seem to be too busy, either. I ordered the tenderloin steak, which is similar to the Taiwanese-style steaks you'll find in Taiwan. It comes with a chowder, your choice of mushroom or black pepper sauce, and either rice or spaghetti. I also ordered a winter melon tea, which was cold, refreshing, and had that slightly nutty, caramelized flavor that I love. The chowder was a little too starchy for my taste, but it was still warm and hearty. The steak was cooked well for this style, and the sauce had solid flavor. The food wasn't mind-blowingly delicious, but it was definitely authentic and hit the spot when I was missing Taiwan. What really stood out to me was the warm and friendly energy from the staff. Overall, this is a great spot if you're craving nostalgic Taiwanese food and atmosphere. Would definitely come again soon! read more

Came here on Father's Day and there were plenty of seating available. Heard good things about this place and decided to drive 30+ mins to try out this restaurant. We ordered the popcorn chicken, tenderloin sizzling plate, chicken sizzling plate and honey green tea with less sugar. Popcorn chicken - 4/5 . It was nice and crispy but definitely on the bland side. Had to add more salt and pepper on my own. Tenderloin sizzling plate 2/5 - the meat was very chewy and also very bland. Their sauce didn't taste right :( and their noodles weren't that good. Chicken sizzling plate 3/5 - the skin wasn't crispy like it should be.. the sauce was bland for this as well! Honey green tea 5/5 - the drink was the highlight of my meal. Made me feel nostalgic and brought me back to my childhood :). Service was good and fast. Ambiance casual and clean. I probably wouldn't come back. read more

So yummy!! I love Taiwanese style sizzling steak and have been on the search for a solid place since my favorite one in Rowland closed down 10+ years ago. Tried Hakka Brother on a weekend and while the restaurant was almost full, we were thankfully was seated immediately! My group ordered the fried tofu appetizer, popcorn chicken rice, pork chop rice and i ordered the sizzling chicken steak. The sizzling chicken steak was so good, and it comes with garlic bread and corn soup. I love dipping the bread in the soup and it's a great way to tide you over while you wait for the steak. The steak comes with black pepper or mushroom sauce and I opted for a combo of both, with rice or spaghetti (i always get spaghetti). The popcorn chicken rice and pork chop rice tastes exactly how you would imagine a really good/solid Taiwanese place would make it. Food was great and service was so kind, I would totally come back again. TP tea is also right down the street! read more

I've been craving an authentic Taiwanese-style steak for what feels like forever, and after trying a handful of places in the area, none came close to the quality and flavor I remembered--until now. One afternoon, while wandering the plaza in search of lunch, I noticed the door of a long-closed restaurant slightly open with signs of renovation inside. Curiosity took over, and I stepped in--only to find the original owner preparing for a grand reopening. To my surprise and excitement, they turned out to be the original team behind 四季風 (Formosan Steakhouse). After many years away--and several different owners and name changes--the true founders have finally returned, now rebranded as Hakka Brother (客家5哥). I'm thrilled to say I'm the first to leave a review after their comeback. We visited for lunch as a party of three, and the new menu brings back all the beloved classics. Here's what we ordered: Dishes We Tried * Taiwanese Oyster Omelet Good--one of Taiwan's most iconic comfort foods, and they nailed it. Flavorful, well-cooked, and satisfying. * Popcorn Chicken Good--crispy, juicy, and full of that signature Taiwanese seasoning. * Crispy Fried Tofu Great--perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside. The sauce is delicious, but use sparingly! * Teppan Chicken Steak Great--this was the dish I'd been longing for. You can choose black pepper or mushroom sauce; I went with black pepper, and it was everything I remembered: tender, juicy, and incredibly flavorful. It comes with garlic bread and creamy corn soup. The teppan is served with rice or noodles--I picked noodles so it could soak up that mushroom sauce, topped with an over-easy egg. Just remember to eat quickly or move the meat to a cooler spot, because the teppan stays hot! The chicken plus the sauce was pure joy. * Teppan Sea-Land Combo A (Tenderloin Steak & Calamari Steak) I didn't try it personally, but the tenderloin was cooked to a beautiful medium rare, and the calamari steak looked impressively large and tender. * Teppan Sea-Land Combo B (Filet Mignon Steak & Garlic Shrimp) My friend cut into the filet after pouring the sauce over it--it looked incredibly juicy and perfectly cooked. * Milk Tea & Boba Milk Tea A classic pairing to round out the meal. It makes me genuinely happy to see one of our favorite Taiwanese restaurants return to the neighborhood. The flavors, the quality, and the warm familiarity are all back. This review will be for their shaved snow. We got the mango and strawberry shaved snow, and it was delicious. The fruit was fresh and the consistency of the shaved snow was great. It really reminded me of the desserts I've had in Taiwan. The restaurant is clean and cute. The staff is kind and friendly. read more
4.5 stars, I had this restaurant bookmarked when I noticed it was a Taiwanese restaurant, and now rebranded and opened as Hakka Brother we decided to try it. Parking was relatively easy to find in the lot. The interior is clean but not that big. We were seated immediately as it was a little later (1PM) on a Saturday. Service was very friendly and I was able to converse with the waitresses in Mandarin. The younger male waiter also spoke excellent English. The menu is extensive and fairly priced, with lots of authentic Taiwanese dishes. We opted for a Taiwanese oyster omelet, lamb noodle soup, and a sole fish teppan plate. The teppan plates come with corn soup and tasty garlic bread. I chose the mixed (mushroom AND black pepper) sauce, and rice instead of noodles for my fish. The portion was generous and food was tasty. The oyster omelet was authentic but the gooey part was a bit denser than I am used to. The lamb noodle soup had chewy noodles and a great rich broth, and even though I am not the biggest lamb fan it wasn't overly gamey. I originally wanted the beef noodle soup, but they were out of beef, and I tried to order the shaved snow as well, but I think the shaved snow is only sold during the warmer months (e.g. summer). I attempted to order a green (mung) bean slushie, but they did not have green bean cooked that day. We came by around 5:30pm Saturday for dinner and the place was packed. We waited about 5 mins for a table. We got the pork chops plate, chicken plate and beef noodle. The plates both came with soup, garlic bread and spaghetti or rice. The corn soup and garlic bread were delicious. The plates were 3/5. The noodle was 3/5. Food was descent for what you can get in Cerritos. It is definitely not as good as the cafes in San Gabriel. There were only 2 servers taking care of the customers. Plenty of parking. read more

I saw the other reviews that this business came back with a new name but with the OG owner. I had to confirm this myself, so I rushed to go try and it was so nostalgic. The same garlic bread and chowder soup as appetizers and the sizzling mushroom sauce fish fillet was the flavor from my memories. It was definitely the same owner when this place was called Formosan Restaurant or 四季風. Even the menu looked very similar to before. This was my childhood and I'm happy that Cerritos/Artesia has another Taiwanese spot again. This restaurant specializes in Taiwanese-style teppanyaki plates and also has other classic Taiwanese dishes. I'd highly recommend the fish fillet or chicken for the teppanyaki, though I know the steak is also popular. read more

No joke, I really like good chinese food and I'm so glad I tried this vs some other restaurants I felt were good and was going to go. beef was good, since we had beef stew think i should go for chicken or pork steak option that's classic for taiwanese even though beef is "better" was very curious to try the fish options since breaded crispy fish is always good in the hong kong style cafe restaurants my family eats at, this is taiwanese, want to see their version. lots of options on the menu!!! read more
They're back! Happy to see Hakka Brothers open and bring back the same menu I loved when it was still Formosan Restaurant. The original owners are back running the show. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and have fond childhood memories of eating their sizzling steak. I ordered the fried pork chop rice plate that comes with sides that change daily. The food is really delicious and definitely has an authentic Taiwanese flavor. For my drink I ordered their winter melon tea. The winter melon tea was cool and refreshing. The service was really friendly and the foods came out quickly. The restaurant is kept very clean. There some background music, but it not loud to the point of where you can't talk over it. There is a freezer where you can grab frozen food to go that you can make at home. The dumplings are all hand made. I grabbed a bag of jiucai hezi. I grew up on these and haven't found a place that makes them so when I saw it here I grabbed a bag. So happy to see Hakka Brothers open in the old Formosan Restaurant space. There really isn't anything like this restaurant in the area. If you look for great Taiwanese food with truly authentic Taiwanese flavor, you have to stop by. read more

I've been coming back here since the original owners came back. This is one of my favorite Taiwanese restaurants. The food is just delicious. Their plates are huge and the price is reasonable. My go to is the steak tenderloin on the hot plate with spaghetti and black pepper sauce or the spicy popcorn chicken plate. I really like this place because it's a complete meal. The taste is always consistent. I'm just waiting for them to get the shaved ice machine. The staff always gives great service and gives off that genuine friendly Taiwanese vibe. Great service, the server was able to speak English well. Food came out very quickly, and the food was excellent. We ordered the sole filets with the mix sauce. You can have it with rice or spaghetti. Sooo, good! The taste is what we remembered from when we use to come here with the previous owners. This is a very homey/comfort food type restaurant with unique Taiwanese food. This is my first time trying this type of Taiwanese food as I'm used to the very well known ones like beef noodle soup/popcorn chicken/etc. My husband, who is Taiwanese, absolutely loves this place and feels that it is very authentic and nostalgic so I believe you'll love this if you are Taiwanese! We ordered the vermicelli noodles which was a little on dry side but yummy. Also enjoyed the steak and noodles (reminded me of spaghetti) - it was very interesting to try this because it sees like such a western meal (apparently from post wwii American influence). read more

This place is tucked away in a small plaza by norwalk blvd. It has a good vibe and service was great. We ordered the Hakka Style Vermicelli which was really good and a must try; the popcorn chicken was very tasty and the mango mochi shaved ice was a bomb.. will definitely come back and try other stuff in the menu. read more

Second time at Hakka Brother in Artesia and it's still hitting. I got the sizzling chicken platter with spaghetti and egg. It comes with your choice of black pepper or mushroom sauce, and the black pepper sauce was a banger with the chicken. Everything comes out on a sizzling plate -- hot, fresh, and super satisfying. Before that we had a little corn chowder with garlic bread, which was simple but did the job holding us over while waiting. My friend ordered the sizzling lamb platter, and from what he shared it's definitely worth trying too. We also shared a few other items around the table -- braised beef noodle soup, chow mein, and the oyster omelette which is a great appetizer. Service was great too. Our waiter was hilarious, super down-to-earth, and checked in on us often. Food came out quickly even during Saturday lunch with a group. Our friends who go to Taiwan pretty often said this spot really gives them those homey Taiwanese vibes, which says a lot. Second visit and the quality and experience were just as solid as the first. Walked in and it was a good sign to see a bunch of families sharing meals. It definitely has a smaller family owned feel and the food reflects that. I asked for the lemon juice not to be overly sweet and they were kind to have us try it to see if it needed more or less sugar. The filet mignon was tender and the rice was cooked well. It felt like a meal cooked at home. The popcorn chicken was heavy on the pepper, which I loved but my daughter definitely didn't. read more
