Caren is a great hairstylist who listens to what her customers have to say. This seems to be unusual. I never have to worry that if I ask for an inch cut off that I'll leave with 4 because the stylist thought it would be better. This is a cute shop that usually has a low key relaxed atmosphere. Caren is also an expert in dealing with hair loss and helped me rebound from such a problem. I walked in there today with wet hair from my shower and an hour to kill before the event I was to attend across the street. I had driven from the Berkeley area and left early to avoid the aggravation of commute traffic and spotted this shop. Thought I would treat myself to having my hair blow-dried. Had just gotten a great cut the week before and you know how hard it is to get it to look the way it does when you walk out of the salon right after the cut. Anyway, asked for a blow dry and, standing there with wet hair, was asked if I wanted to come in the next day. I explained my situation but it was no use. Got the feeling they didn't like my looks - t-shirt and jeans. It was a San Francisco Bay Trail t-shirt and I was going to an event for the 25th anniversary of the Bay Trail. While I won't go so far as to say that they were rude, they were definitely kind of snooty. If I was 17 and in high school instead of 54 and retired, I would have to say that they were the cheerleaders and I was the nerd and was treated accordingly. There were two stylists present and one receptionist. One customer was just finished and getting up to pay. There were no other customers in the shop. Had they wanted to charge me $30, I probably would have gone for it just to sit and relax. It probably would have taken no more than 10-15 minutes to do my hair. That's $120+ per hour. Guess they are really successful if they are turning that kind of business down. I note that they take walk-ins. Just not those of my type, I guess, whatever that is. People that can afford them? People not dressed to a certain standard? But, it is their right to refuse service to anyone. read more

Not only does Anna have years of experience doing cut and color; she is highly skilled at fitting, coloring and styling hair pieces and wigs. Wow, I just love Hair Solutions. The new owner Anna is so sweet and does the most amazing blow outs on my hair - they last for up to 2 weeks! And she takes the time to blow dry my very long and thick hair and curls each section tightly so I end up looking like I have ringlets, but the blow dry lasts such a long time and well worth the price. My balayage highlights have never looked better! And such a convenient location with parking and relaxed atmosphere inside the salon. She also specializes in helping customers dealing with hair loss due to alopecia, chemotherapy and general thinning of the hair. I was referred by a friend who actually works at the sister salon in Mill Valley, At the Top. I was in desperate need of a color touch-up and my friend gave me the salon service as a birthday present. I was greated with a warm "Hello!" and seated right away. Raquel, my stylist was great! I brought a magazine photo with the color I wanted her to get as close to as possible on my hair - she did it! My experience with this salon is that it is clean, very well managed and the people are very friendly. The salon is a small boutique-like studio that offers a very unique service here in Marin that I hadn't heard of but now understand how valuable Laser Hair Rejuvination is to many men and women. My hair dresser of 25 years moved away from the area, and the search was on! After multiple strike outs in Marin, I lucked onto Hair Solutions a couple years ago. I currenlty use the stylist options at present, they are reasonable and work to please. The environment is very satifying, and relaxing. No need for laser hair loss treatments at present, however if I ever did this would be the place. With no pressure to buy, Caren and Gayle have recommended some vitamins and shampoo treatments for my hair which have added body and thickness I didn't know I was missing. Try the MD line. Caren is the best hair stylist I have ever had. She listens to what you want and tries to give it to you if possible. She knows hair and can tell you what your hair can and cannot do, and what you can expect with any cut or styling. If you have thinning problems, she is an expert at styling and has equipment that deals with hair loss. I have been at the salon when people walked in and needed an immediate appointment, and Caren and her staff always try to accommodate them. In addition, Caren is constantly learning new techniques, so she is up to date on anything you may want. I cannot recommend her more highly. read more
