I can't say enough good things about Showroom Salon, particularly Sloan's magic way with hair. I have shoulder length curly hair. The curls grow tighter on top and are much looser on the bottom. Until I met Sloan no one had been able to give me a cut that looked good for more than a week. I had bounced around from stylist to stylist for years, looking for someone who knew what to do with my unruly curls. Sloan is IT!!! Fantastic and fabulous. I had done a bad home hair dye job on my hair. Went in to Showroom383 and had a consultation with Carly Phillippie, she has a great suggestion. Came in the next week, She did a tint on my hair and Kelly gave me a great shampoo, condition and a relaxing scalp and neck massage. The Salon is airy a beautiful atmosphere. After years of dying and bleaching my hair from drug store boxes my hair was so damaged it was falling out. My last self done dye job was a bleach blond with teal tips. Fun for awhile but it grew out horribly and due to damage I was afraid to dye it again myself. A friend recommended showroom 383 Salon and I went and saw Carly Phillippie, a color specialist. I told her I wanted to get back to something close to natural and most importantly healthy. I could not be happier to have gone!! Carly was so kind and didn't judge the horror that was my hair. She was friendly and super easy to talk to. The salon itself was a great escape for a bit. They have an elegant but relaxed and happy salon with coffee and other beverages for guests. My hair looks amazing!!! I love it and it feels healthy now! I almost didn't want to leave but I will definitely go back! Carly was so great and after the amazing job she did on my hair, no one, including me, dyes my hair again. Love this place- had my hair cut and colored on different days and was very pleased. Location is perfect and easy with parking (they have their own lot) The salon is clean and not very loud which is great because you can relax as you sip on the latte or cappuccino they offer you. Katie cut my hair - and fully understood my needs. I didn't feel any pressure like you can when the hair dresser suggests something you really don't want to do -- which was very nice. I hate the guilt you receive from high pressure salons to buy their products or try different techniques. Didn't feel that here! Brittany did an amazing job on my color and really interviewed me beforehand to ensure our visions were inline with each others! I love that she took into account my personal feeling on my hair color and gave suggestions on how/what would look best, without forcing a particular look on me. I am way overdue on reviewing Showroom 383! I have been going here since it opened its doors and I'll never go anywhere else! I drive here from SF every 6 weeks like clockwork and spend the day relaxing, getting pampered, and laughing. This is a beautiful (living wall, bamboo furniture, lots of sunlight) high-end salon without the stuffiness you feel at other salons of the same caliber. The staff and services are consistently top notch. I get my hair cut by the owner, Sloan, and she can do magic with short hair. Even when I decide to let it grow a little, it grows out beautifully due to the cuts she gives me. I get full bleach and tone done as well and have always been happy with my color. I am so happy with the color, that now I just tell Carly to do whatever she wants! I know it will be beautiful no matter what shades of blonde she goes with! I can't really praise this salon enough. It is worth every penny and you really won't get services like this at a lot of other places with any consistency. If you haven't been, call and make an appointment today! read more

I had the most outstanding highlight experience with George Parker this week at Showroom 383!! Clearly the talented run in packs! I'm a natural brunette with unfortunately, more than a few gray highlights and have gone blond to disguise the defined growth line. You know, the kind that says "you must be due for an appointment soon".... He was really receptive to hearing my thoughts, what my concerns were and I valued his technique and expertise. His attention to detail was very well received and he was a pleasure to spend time with. I appreciated that he came to check on me more than a few times. While I was under the dryer, at the shampoo bowl with a gloss on and after his assistant (who gives an out-of-this-world head/neck massage) had blown my hair dry to make sure I was happy with the results. Nicky Bangles cut my hair for the first time about 6 weeks ago and as late as last night I have had people tell me my hair looks amazing and or better then it ever has unsolicited. I just returned home after what is now my second haircut from Nicky Bangles, he is quite simply amazing. His barber skills and his charm are unparalleled from my perspective. Nicky B's haircuts are more than basic haircuts, no wonder he's predominantly reviewed at the studio. I have never been complimented so many times on my hair cut that week in my entire life! NO SURPRISE THEY HAVE ALL 5 STAR REVIEWS! GAELAN ALSO GETS MY 5 STARS!! I think that says it all, not only do they house some of the best colorists and stylists, they also run a great business. Gaelan is the only person I have found in a 23 year search whose haircuts are phenomenal. I mean that sincerely, 10 out of 10 times myself, kids, and friends have all agreed and won't see anyone else. I made the mistake of giving my teenage girl and boy (naturally curly, thick, and weird cowlick) gifts of haircuts with Gaelan and they won't see anyone else. They will literally wait 6 months without a cut than see anyone else. I can't exactly tell you why, because others have had similar training, worked in more prestigious salons, but Gaelan had the vision and can execute the vision. My mom does hair for films and had long been touted in her own right as the best hair cutter but she pales in comparison to Gaelan. We trust him fully and look forward to how we look and feel after haircuts with him. Oddly enough, he's good friends with my ex boyfriend and it wasn't until a year after that break up I tried him. One haircut was all it took. He didn't take off a lot of length, he listened but shaped the cut in a way that made me look like I had twice the hair, it was so healthy, and he saw what I couldn't. He's very gifted. My children just won't get their haircut because they won't get a bad cut, typically waiting for a visit from my mom, that is until Gaelan. They will only let him cut their hair. WHATS SUPER AWESOME IS THAT HE OFFERS A FOLLOW UP HALF HOUR CUT AT A LOWER PRICE FOR IN BETWEEN CUTS!! How Brilliant! That's customer service. Most of this crew I knew from my old days trying everyone at Cooper Alley. The good ones all moved over with Sloane to 383. They aren't only all talented, they're actually good people who love the artistic side of their professions and are people driven who enjoy service. Emery one is friendly, desk staff is articulate, knowledgeable, and efficient. I've never, really never, been able to say that I've never had a small issue with any business I've patronized and this is the first. Not once have I had an issue of call returned or needs met. It's been smooth when I've gotten a cut or not been present and paid for my kids via phone. Every product they sell and recommend has delivered and been exactly what they said. Given their apparent formula for good business, I wish Sloan would open a DMV or Post Office and change our lives in all aspects. Oh! All the employees/people seem to genuinely like each other and spend time outside of work! Unlike the personal drama that spilled over into the clients experience at Cooper Alley, making it uncomfortable to go there, especially when you're spending a lot of your money on services. read more

I have been coming to Showroom 383 for several years. Erin or George are my go-tos for color. Jessica has been cutting my hair (and my son's hair) forever. Fantastic jobs all. And I feel and look fabulous when I walk out the door. As far as the rest of the staff - those who bring us tea/water, wash our hair, massage our scalps and necks, blow-out our hair - those people are also superstars and should be recognized as such. They work just as hard as the colorist/cutter. I have absolutely no problem with getting a tip envelope for their work when I check out. I am surprised anyone would have a problem with that. Is it really that hard to figure out how much you would like to leave them as a thank you? Most of these men/women are just starting out in the business, and a thank you tip is very much appreciated. In the other salons I have been to prior to Showroom, I was also asked if I wanted to tip the assistants. I don't think it is odd or out of place at all. Sarah is an amazing colorist! I have been seeing her for about 7 years now and there has never been a time where I walked away and didn't absolutely love what she did. Sarah takes the time to truly listen to what you want and now I simply say to her do what you like because she is THAT good. After searching for awhile for a great salon in Marin, I finally found the place with the best cuts and color. Having moved here from NYC--and a great salon (which I would happily still gets cuts/color at on trips East), I struggled to find a salon that could match my NYC stylist and colorist. I finally found it at Showroom 383. In particular, I cannot recommend Katie enough as a stylist. She super nice, genuine and easily one of the best stylists in Marin--if not SF. She can also hold a candle to my NYC stylist. I've been going to her for a little over year and always get a great cut! I only hope she doesn't get poached by another salon or move away as she's super talented, close to where I live, and I love spending time in her chair talking about everything from travel to events in SF/Marin. George is also amazing! He's a great colorist who listens to his clients and is hilarious. Colorist are hard to come by and without him, I'd still be searching through SF. Love my colorist, but bad experience with a stylist here. Changing to a different salon.

I have seen three different people over the course of 5 appointments. I won't return. I am sick of asking for haircuts and being given various reason as to why the stylist is going to cut it their way. But please note, Sarah, the colorist is awesome and did what I asked for. Both stylists have given me very pretty cuts- but VERY bland, very conventional and not at all what I asked for and/or showed pictures of. Very Stepford. read more

I have been to this salon twice. The first time was for a a haircut with Gaelan who is amazing. Normally I completely zone out during hair appointments but he had me laughing the entire time and I left with a healthy awesome cut. I asked him if there was anyone he would recommend for color and he referred me to Sarah. She was equally awesome and helped me feel better on a horrible day. I told her I wanted to go darker after bleaching my hair with highlights for so long. She gave me an awesome new color that fits my complexion with subtle highlights. She did an amazing job. I'm a natural dark blonde and have been dying my hair lighter (bleach and tone) for the past 3 years. I'm also on a tight budget, but it had hit the 3-4 month and knew I had to do something. I booked an appointment with Brittany Stone and braced for the worst since I knew nothing about the salon or the stylist, but I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. Brittany suggested a highlight/lowlight combo to eliminate the harsh line when my roots grow out and to add some dimension back in. Honestly, I was hesitant about the lowlights, but I'm glad I listened since the result was fantastic. I walked out with a light, NATURAL blonde color and a sensible maintenance plan. Brittany and the other staff were delightful and welcoming and the space itself is phenomenally decorated with lots of windows and open space. The only negative is that the price tag is on the higher end, but in this case you really do get what you pay for. read more

I was hesitant, but after she really took the time to hear me out and refer to a photo I brought in, I was more comfortable. This new salon location just before the heart of downtown Mill Valley is a real treat. I had been seeing another stylist in Sonoma County where I live, who had made a dreadful mess of my hair. Since I grew up in Mill Valley and travel out to SF for school, this was a logical pace to stop. First off, this review is long overdue. I have been going to see Nicky for 2-3 years now. During this time I have had long beautiful long hair. Each and every time I went to see Nicky, he always made me and my hair feel majestic. I really have no idea what would look good on me, but when I turnover full creative control, he always delivers a look that is better than I could imagine. He truly understands how my face and hair work together. Anybody can cut hair, but Nicky is undoubtedly a master of his craft. I have never found someone that I felt comfortable seeing on a consistent basis. Getting my hair cut is no longer a "chore", as I look forward to each appointment I have with him. We always carry great conversations and I have trusted him from the start with my hair. On 7/25/14, I had my most recent appointment. With no intention of cutting off my long hair going in, I sat down in the chair and I was ready to make a big change. With Nicky fully on board with my decision, I turned over all creative control to him, and the results were astounding. He did a FANTASTIC job. It being a big decision (having long hair for 4+ years), Nicky was the only one I would trust to cut my hair. I don't think I have ever looked this good in my entire life. To put it simply, my girlfriend is attracted to me again, my parents are so happy with my decision/look you would think that I just graduated from Harvard Law School, and most importantly I feel and look great. Go see Nicky for your next haircut. He is a master of his craft, and when someone like him is behind the shears, it's a beautiful art form.
