A bummer to have to write this review I was really hoping for a better outcome. I paid just about $1k to get my hair highlighted and cut. For the highlights my only ask to the stylist was to do it in a way that would look good when my hair grew out. I'm currently pregnant and knew I wouldn't be able to go back for a touch up for some time. Two months after I got the highlights I had noticed it was growing in very blocky. A few coworkers pointed it out and encouraged me to reach back out to the salon to touch it up. They reminded me that it was not worth what I paid and I should get it fixed. I emailed the salon and their response was they could book me a touch up appointment with no discount. That because we were out of the one week window they were not willing to do anything. They are Master Stylist jewels, with a rare eye, knowledge and hair wisdom they impart to their clients, and which has been reflected in every single one of my cuts and colors. Let me start by saying I've never been a loyal customer when it comes to my hair. As a frequent commuter and avid sampler, I used to bounce around salons all over the Bay Area. So it's a big deal that I've been getting my hair colored exclusively at AP Luxe for 3 years now! COLOR: I trust Alexa implicitly - I'm naturally dark brunette with fine, curly hair (read: delicate), and she's taken me seamlessly through different levels of blonde, copper, and auburn over the last few years. It looks amazing every time, and I love how efficient and genuine she is. I've only had my hair colored one time by another stylist, Shayna, and I left with the most-complimented copper I've ever had. I can't recommend Alexa enough, and I don't think you can go wrong with anyone on their team! CUT: For a hair cut, I've booked Amanda (co-owner) and it was definitely one of my favorite curly bobs that I've gotten. Like I said, I've tried going to many salons - it's hard to find a place that does a truly great curly cut at a reasonable price point, and Amanda just had fun with it and did the best job. TLDR; I've only booked their hair services and just with Master Stylists, so I can't really speak on anything else. But in my experience, they always deliver - my appointments are speedy and my hair color always feels modern and dimensional. That said, I know everyone on the Junior Stylist team are there because they're backed by the best. So I would consider that along with your specific hair goals when you're booking! If you are looking for a fabulous colorist, look no further than Rebecca at AP Luxe! She was fantastic, talking me through lots of options for color, including highlights, low lights, full color, roots, gloss, different blends etc. She very respectfully directed me away from the color I originally thought I wanted, explaining to me why it wouldn't actually look good with my skin tone and would be difficult to maintain. She mixed a custom color just for me and I have gotten non-stop compliments since!! Then I got my makeup done with Shayna since I was going to get new headshots taken. Shayna did an outstanding job with my makeup, asking to see photos and info about the photographer before starting to make sure the end result would be perfect. She really listened to my preferences, including being extra careful with my eyes since I wear contacts and choosing only the best products for sensitive skin. Kayla (color) and Kimmy (cut) are amazing. Trust me. I came in after not having anyone touch my hair for a year- had major gray and dead ends. Kayla was immediately so professional, and got right to it on time, without small talk (which I hate). She produced the best color I have ever had. She is so knowledgeable and knew exactly what to do without wasting any time. Then Kimmy swooped in and gave me a beautiful cut (6 inches) and made my hair healthy and gorgeous. I moved to Marin last November and found Kayla at AP Luxe. I am extremely happy with my decision to get my hair done here. Kayla is easy going and it's always relaxing to have her do my hair. She is amazing with color and cut. Honestly, my hair hasn't been this healthy in years. The brand of color they use lasts and doesn't damage my hair nearly as much as colors used in me at past salons. The color I use is auburn and it'll last 3-4 weeks. It's impressive. I've never had to wait to be seated. Kayla is always running on time. They don't double book her so it's nice to have her full attention from start to finish. I highly recommend Kayla! read more

DON'T TRUST YOUR HAIR TO THEM!!! THEY BROKE MY HAIR OFF! Nick (a junior stylist - I couldn't get in to see a senior stylist) performed my partial foil and haircut. Nick seemed like he had absolutely no idea what he was doing. (I've had a number of foils and I could tell). His experience level was comparable to stylists I used in college who worked at Adeva Training Salon - which cost me $60 and were appropriately supervised. However, unlike training stylists, this cost me $426 (I gave a 20% tip at the time since I'm a nice person - he didn't deserve it.) and he completely broke off the sides of my hair by overprocessing it. Other context, my hair is fine (especially on the sides), but going into it, it was probably the healthiest my hair has been in the past 15 years. I noticed the damage 1-2 weeks later (when I actually put makeup on to go somewhere), and I contacted AP Luxe Salon to let them know (granted, it was a week after that - hey, I'm busy). AP Luxe response? (1) you didn't contact us within 7 days to let us know, (2) the hair didn't break off during the appointment, and (3) we don't know how you cared for your hair afterward, so this is probably your fault. My response? (1) I let them know I'm in a senior position at work and I have 2 children under 3 (so I'm frickin busy), plus I work completely remote. I don't have the capacity or reason to inspect my hair or appearance frequently. It took me 2 weeks to even notice it. No idea when it happened. (2) I let them know I've had salons break off my hair before (and I admitted that honestly, those times, it was mostly my fault because my hair was already very damaged), and it typically happens the next couple of times you wash your hair after the appointment. So that is a lie. (3) I also let them know that I air dry, wash my hair 2-3 times a week and I only use K18 shampoo and conditioner. I used K18 deep conditioning 4-5 times after the appointment and I used Olaplex weekly. As in - I don't think there is ANYTHING ADDITIONAL I could have reasonably done to properly care for my hair. Update: They did finally offer a refund on the partial foil after I reiterated the above, so I'm bumping this review up to 2/5. But, due to my "aggressive" nature, they've asked me to not return to their salon. (I guess me stating the above directly while multi-tasking during a meeting and getting progressively stressed by their lack of empathy was "aggressive") Go figure. read more

If you are looking for a warm greeting, non-existence pretentiousness, extensive knowledge and massive talent in your hair stylist, then I recommend WINTER as your hair colorist at AP Luxe. Mill Valley can feel a bit intimidating because everyone is often elevated in their style there, but Winter made me feel immediately comfortable when I walked in the door. She was incredible patient with me as I tried to convey what I hoped to get in a color change. In fact, she collaborated with photos of her own to try to narrow down my desire to darken my base and get a caramel melt balayage. She considered the texture of my hair and what process would give me the desired look. She took her time with me and we had such great conversations that I immediately relaxed and knew I was in good hands. She is a hair stylist that truly cares about her clients experience and wants them to walk out of the door happy and feeling confident. I honestly have never had such an enjoyable experience at a salon before. WINTER took her time with me and ended up spending 4 hours to get my color exactly as I hoped. I LOVED the results. She had moved up to Mill Valley , and I happened to be in that area so I took advantage and made an appointment. Her name is Rebecca. She's a great stylist.. my hair is straight and she does a great job when I walk out it's perfect and stays that way until the next time I get it cut . If you are looking for someone for hair or makeup, book Shayna and the team at AP Luxe. 1000%. I was looking for bridal hair and makeup for months, and I had gone through five different trials with five other independent wedding artists (not at AP Luxe). Even though I asked for a minimal and natural look every time, I always walked away from trials feeling "not myself" from these other experiences, and it made me feel like that's how it had to be. Thankfully, I was referred by a friend to Shayna, and I instantly felt at ease with her. Shayna has a super calming presence and she just knows what she's doing - she's extremely talented and knows how to get you looking your best. She is so skilled at creating a look that was "me, just enhanced" for my wedding. She knows how to highlight the features that make you YOU! I've never felt more beautiful in my life than after spending time with Shayna. Shayna did my hair cut, my highlights, and extensions to add "oomph" to my final look (best decision ever! can't imagine life without my extensions now). Shayna did it all. They had us all together in the salon so we could chat and relax, have mimosas, fully feeling taken care of and pampered all morning before the big day. They coordinated schedules to get everyone in and out on time and looking STUNNING. Nick did all the sisters' and moms' makeup. Alanna and Kennedy did everyone's hair. Because we did it at the salon, everyone was able to get a wash and blowdry, which enhanced every look and made the experience even more seamless. It was all so perfect, and the whole team crushed it - keeping the vibes high while also making us feel so relaxed. Every woman walked out of the salon that morning feeling so gorgeous. I could not recommend AP Luxe more highly if you're considering them for any service, but especially for if you're planning a big event or wedding. I had a horrible, stress-inducing, painful, UNCLEAN experience with my hair and makeup with Nick before my engagement party. Before I sat down, there was another woman in the chair and he didn't wash his hands before starting on my make up. I told him about my event and he did not prep my skin AT ALL and just went straight for eyeshadow. I had to ask for primer! I asked for a glowy look and showed him pictures of natural, sun-kissed and champagne toned. I left with gold glittered eye shadow! He only had one color of blush that was rosy pink and none that were even close to my pictures, so I had to use what I had at home. I asked for lashes and they were extremely droopy, I don't think he had applied them ever before. Everything on my face looked droopy, I had to direct him to highlight and conceal upward on my cheekbones. He did not set any of my make up with setting spray or translucent powder. I live maybe 50 feel from the salon and the lashes came off by the time I got home. The blowout was nice and then he curled it for the bend I was looking for, which ruined it. I have had countless services and makeup experiences for my job in the Bay Area, east coast, New York and London. This was by far the worst experience I have had. It is insane that I paid for these services - I immediately went home and washed everything off. I have never had any experience like this. This was the most unprofessional makeup I have ever had done in my life. DO NOT GET YOUR GLAM DONE HERE. read more

Not a nice experience at all! The hairdresser was totally disinterested in blowing my hair out. Sneezed and didn't cover his mouth and continued to wipe his noise with his hand. Finished in 35 minutes for an hour long appointment. Didn't ask me if I liked the styling. The receptionist was totally disengaged. Quoted me a difference price than what I was told was the price. I don't mind paying a fair price for a styling, but the level of disengagement of the staff was unacceptable. I would say they were bored to death. Nice way to be pampered. read more

All I have to say is Ashley charged me over $400 for the first picture, (barely any difference from my hair before it was treated) and told me to achieve the blonde I want, I'd have to come back for more than one session. Went to a different stylist, who actually knew what she was doing, and got to this in one sitting. Can't even say Ashley helped with this beforehand because the stylist had a really tough time lightening the pieces Ashley had previously lightened. Don't pay for expensive marin salons. I have always loved AP Luxe but my last few visits with Alexa and her assistant Alanna have really been spectacular! They are both incredibly beautiful and kind individuals who are fun to talk and kill it at doing hair!!! They also work together so well it's amazing and fun to watch. I've had the best hair cuts of my life and have been in and out in record time. My friend raved about the stylists, vibe and products here, so I checked it out. Front desk staff are always so sweet and professional. You walk into a gorgeous well-lit space feeling like a freaking rock start before anyone even touches your hair. Bubbly? Tea? Yes! iPad for some light reading? Yes, thank you. I recently tried a partial balayage by Paige, who I adore btw. She is so lovely. And her dog Luxe is the most adorable ever. The balayage came out lovely but I think my hard water made them get a lil tinney and orange looking. She gave me an ultra cute cut too. Later I realized the light balayage was a bit too light for my taste- what can I say... I'm exploring... And also I realized I needed more length cut off. I went back and couldn't get in with Paige so I got Lex (the stylist, not the dog) and she was also so sweet and focused and awesome. She gave me a nice tint and darkened me up for the winter and cut a bit more off. Bottom line: these women know hair. And they are willing to go above and beyond to make you happy. And they are super accommodating with experimenting and keeping you updated on what kind of maintenance the new style or color will require. I have learned so much about my hair. Okay, yes, the prices are not cheap. But neither is the service. And you get what you pay for! This is a boutique experience that is worth every penny. I'm so happy with my hair! I am so lucky to have discovered the amazing, Nick. He is my go-to stylist. I have stopped getting my hair blown out by anyone else-Nick is that good. I have difficult hair and I always get up from his chair looking glam. Whatever style I choose (straight, beach curls, etc.) he gets it perfect. AND it lasts for almost a week. Plus he has advised me successfully on how to treat my hair so my old damage is now repaired. Plus, he is the nicest guy and very accommodating...he finds a way to squeeze me in if I need a last-minute blow out. Do not support this business! The owner turned a bad hair color around on me and she is DISHONEST!!!!! This place completely ruined my hair and gave me nearly black tips. Let me start by saying I don't think I have ever written a bad review for a salon in my entire life. I have decided to attach photos to show the before and after math of what was done to my hair. You can see the two photos where the hair is lighter (was within the week prior to getting my hair colored at AP luxe salon, the two photos where my tips are substantially darker after AFTER the treatment at apluxe. Yea.... Keep in mind, I am extremely detached from my hair in general and usually very, very easy to please. However, after my recent $250+ experience turning out to be the worse color treatment I have ever received - I had to come on here and share. I came in to get my eyebrows done and then asked if the hair dresser had time to put something on my hair. . She kindly said yes, but I am shocked and disappointed at my how bad the result was. The roots of my hair ended up super suuuper orange/brassy and lighter than the tips. Half my hair is red and the other half (ends) are almost black (see photos). I called and was told that it would wash out over the next few weeks. Over a month later and still my ends are significantly darker than my roots, almost black. I have never paid so much for such a poor outcome in all my years of going to salons. She could have easily put a nice brown over my hair. This was a mistake on their end and they don't want to admit. She should have noticed that my roots were red/orange and substantially lighter than the rest of my hair when she was blow drying me and fixed it then and there. And to correct the owner, I never said it looked great. I noticed that the roots were lighter the second it was drying but had faith the ends would fade - the hair stylist would have had to be blind to not see the same thing. Respectfully, I would not recommend this place. The after math was one of the worst hair treatments I have ever received. Your money is much much better spent elsewhere. I have had many other hair dressers to color on my hair, never had this issue before. I also asked for a refund due to the fact that my hair looked horrible, and they didn't even respond. read more

I am so grateful that I got to have Brittany for my first hair color ever!! I came in for a consultation, wanting a change. Something different, some contrast but not too startling, light but not too bright, some pieces noticeable but not all over, and not requiring too much maintenance. I did show her a few photos I liked, but I was not exactly clear on what I wanted. Somehow she knew!!! I love it!
