I have blue hair, half my head shaved, and very thick/long Indian hair. I walked in to see Alicia to see if there was "anything she could do" because my hair was heavy and I had not had it styled in a year. What I didn't mentioned to Alicia is that I am on camera a lot--more than I enjoy. It's a necessary part of what I do but not something I enjoy very much. I am very self-conscious, which is another reason why I dislike getting my hair done. I teach courses, am in promo videos, and even do modeling shoots. I have a lot of camera stuff going on, so push came to shove, and I made an appointment. Alicia had never met me before. I explained my needs haircut laziness, wanting to make my hair look like less of a blob, and attempting to keep it long even though my ends were severely damaged from a color bleaching that was no longer holding pigment. The end result was the best haircut I've ever had. Here are some before/after photos. I actually have a film shoot today and tested looks with/without glasses and with different styling. Alicia is brilliant, and I am so happy to have found a down to earth, chill place to get my hair done. I have been to "swanky" salons and I don't like the pretension. Alicia did not try to upsell me any products and simply cared that I would be happy with her work. I was more than happy. Lisa is an amazing genius with color. So, a little backstory on how I found this color wizard....I'd been going to a salon in the city for my highlights for nearly a year. The hassle of parking (and cost) was annoying not to mention I just wasn't totally in love with the color I got: I would like it for a day or two and then feel just meh. Blah. Over it. But it was ok (even though very expensive) so I stayed with it because I was getting married and was afraid to make a mistake. Then we moved to Marin and I looked around at all the pretty people with buttery blonde hair and figured, there must be a great place right here. So I did some Yelp research and ended up at Dagaz. I can't tell you how happy I am with my new color. My brother in law said I was glowing the other day, others have just randomly complimented me on my hair, asking if I did something different, told me I look 'gorgeous.' Here's the thing: what Lisa did was subtle, yet studied, perfection. She took what was good about my blonde and enriched it. It looks so natural yet it's still bright. The cut is great too. Oh and this was two weeks ago. I still feel fresh and great about it. Cannot recommend Lisa more highly. Also, the customer service here is phenomenal. Quinn worked hard to get me in and make schedule changes, called me several times to do so and was so professional and polite both on the phone and in person. I had called asking for an ombré/balayage and a haircut. The receptionist asked for me to send over photos in advance of what I was asking for, again discussed this n person. Mentioned I had bad experience with stylists bleaching my hair in the past and that it's taken me two years and a lot of research trying to find someone capable of doing a good job. Tony proceeds to highlight my hair super blonde above my chin, and I had specifically said below the chin if you're doing any blonde and dark at the roots. He didn't even use a toner to try and blend the color so I now have blocks of bleached hair that's VERY apparent, even more so if I put my hair up. I didn't realize until I left and my mom really inspected it. He didn't balayage at all, but charged me $250 for a cut and essentially a hack highlight job. I had to go somewhere else to get toner to fix my hair and even the stylist there said he did a crap job because she had to double the time the toner was in my hair because it wasn't covering the bad highlights. I'm sure this place is good for haircuts and for folks with lighter hair and simple requests, but I had quite a terrible experience. read more

I'm probably the only person in Marin who just arrives and let's the stylist do their job. I mean, she does this everyday and trains with professional beauty teams to do this. I stopped going here after being a loyal customer for at least a couple years. I even recommended it to friends. I came in on a day when the salon was ordinarily closed because that was my stylist's schedule. I walked in the door and a yappy little dog immediately lunged towards me barking aggressively. I was wearing a brand new pair of suede shoes. I neither wanted to get nipped nor did I want dog goo on my new shoes. And frankly I was startled and i recoiled, and muttered something unhappy. I love dogs by the way, just didn't like being startled. What happened next shocked me and saddened me. I was told by my stylist that this was a dog friendly salon, and in the course of a conversation she made it clear to me that if I didn't like the dog I could leave. So I did and will never return. It was more because I didn't like how she handled my concerns; I could have dealt with the dog. What especially hurt is that in the previous visit I had brought a nice baby gift for my stylist (for which I never got any kind of thanks). Oh well. Fortunately I've found a stylist who's better than the one at Dagaz. But being treated so shabbily over a dog was disappointing. I even wonder how the health department feels about dogs in salons. Does not seem sanitary. I have thought very hard about whether I should write this review. The incident happened many months ago. But I'm clear that something was amiss and I want to do the favor of informing other potential customers that the priorities at Dagaz may be somewhat askew. read more

She is a great listener, she always make great suggestions and she is very professional. The salon is light clean and friendly and all the staff make me feel at home. This is the only place I go! I was going to a very high end salon in SF and got a pixie cut and lightened my hair. I ended up with a super weird cut and orange peach hair. Tony fixed me up and has taken me into an edgy pixie with beautiful ash tones. I always walk out of there happy and relaxed!! The salon is always clean and everyone is friendly! His dog keeps me occupied when my hair is processing and our conversation always leaves me laughing. After explaining what I wanted and showing the woman what I specifically wanted, she didn't do any of it. I told her I wanted it rounded in the back, with long layers and that I was concerned about frizz with my straightened waves. She razor bladed my hair, which made it frizzy, very thin and really unattractive. She then flat ironed it and used various products in it. After word she ran her fingers through it and said "see you don't have any issues with frizz." I looked at her in disbelief that she was serious. She just flat ironed my hair and put major product in it?! Yeah there wouldn't be a frizz issue at that point. When she showed me the blunt cut in the back I reminded her that I wanted it rounded. She said "we don't use those kind of words to describe hair cuts." What? Please provide me with the manual of descriptive words you use to describe hair then because clearly you only understand a few words. She tried to fix it but it was awful at that point with no room to do anything but cut it short, and that wasn't happening that day. When I left the salon I ran into a close friend who looked at me weird and then said she thought I need a haircut because my hair looked like it was over due for a cut. I had just. Left. The. Salon. Lisa is my stylist/colorist at Dagaz and I LOVE HER!!! I was attracted to this tucked away salon in Mill Valley because it looked hip yet unpretentious. My hunches were correct and I've been a regular for over two years now. That's saying a lot, since I never went back to a stylist more than twice in the nine years I've lived in the bay area. While I went to the "top" salons in San Francisco, I never truly felt welcomed or cared for in the way I do at Dagaz. Lisa consistently gives my fine hair beautiful cuts and keeps my blonde looking healthy and "natural." What's better - she's as kind and sweet as they come! read more

It's a nail-biting experience to entrust your looks and your head to someone with very sharp scissors. You hope that 1) they like you and 2) they're skilled enough to make something good out of what nature bestowed upon you. I won't mention the names of the previous places I've tried in Mill Valley, but the too-cool-for-you attitude runs rampant in this little town. I was dismayed by how bad I felt after my previous visits, not to mention the money I forked out for that privilege. Fast forward to today. I visited Dagaz on the hopes that the previous Yelp reviews were true: that there are highly talented and caring hair stylists out there. Yuli did not disappoint at all on both counts. She regarded me as a worthwhile person. She treated my head with kindness and respect. She didn't push my head around (I hate that) while cutting, but asked politely if I could turn my head for her. She was genuinely friendly, and I came out of the salon with a becoming haircut that I feel good to wear. Kudos to Dagaz salon for being a friendly, expert, and warm place of business in Mill Valley. I am in love with Rachel! (In a totally professional way, of course.) I've been coming to Dagaz for about two years now, ever since I moved to the Bay Area. My first appointment was with Rachel, and I've been hooked ever since. We've been through a lot together; my ill-fated attempt to go blonde (husband's request), which she expertly counseled me on the best blonde for my coloring, the easiest way to maintain it, and of course, performed the coloring flawlessly. I stuck with the blonde, going progressively lighter and lighter for about six months, of course at which point I decided I wanted to try a reddish brown instead. No problem, Rachel handled that, too. She also gave me bangs when I wanted them put in, then helped me grow them out when I tired of those. Now I'm back to natural color, no bangs, and I still can't get enough of her expert haircuts. She's a master of the scissors, knowing exactly what to do and how to do it, all while being just a delightful person. In the past, I've always felt awkward in hair salons, not really able to make adequate small talk with my stylists, or just really not knowing what to do with myself. Rachel is such a sweetheart, the conversation is actually one of the best parts of the visit. It's just an added bonus that she knows exactly what to do with my too-long, poorly maintained, frizzy wavy hair. On a side note, when my mom came to visit and wanted a haircut, Rachel worked with her as well, so I can vouch fer her abilities with straight hair as well as frizzy curls. My mom's hair is visibly thinning, and by the time she was out of the chair, my mom was positively glowing with the delight of what Rachel had been able to do for her. It's been a long time since my mom has felt any sort of confidence about her hair, and I love Rachel for being able to restore that to my mom. Long story short, five stars! My first appointment with Dagaz was scary on my end - I had just taken out hair extensions that I had in for over a year and my hair was an absolute disaster. But Dagaz was the perfect place for my troubled hair, embarrassed by the amount of damage the extensions had caused they treated me with sincere care and consideration and made sure I was completely comfortable. Alicia cut my hair while Tony colored it to a stunning platinum, and by the time I left I was beyond pleased with the results. They made me love my hair when I thought it wasn't possible! I have thick, fluffy, wavy/curly hair that isn't afraid to frizz or fluff up. Understandably, I was nervous when I moved to the area to have to find a new hairdresser. Fortunately, Yelp steered me to the right place and I ended up with Alicia as my hairdresser. The first time I went in, I decided I wanted to go with a short cut (chin length) and I brought in pics to show Alicia. She did a great job replicating the cut (better than another upscale salon I went to) and she styled my hair curly so that I'd know how to do it when I was on my own. The second time I went in after my hair had grown out. I wanted to keep the overall length, but this time I decided to try bangs (for the first time since elementary school!) and relieve some of the heaviness of the rest of my hair. I brought in a few different pictures for inspiration of the vibe I was going for and Alicia did a great job listening to me and talking me through different possibilities. Sooo nice to have someone who listens! She told me that with my hair I'd have to straighten it to have bangs, and ended up styling it straight this time. Totally felt like a model walking out of there, and the best part is that once I washed it and it went back to being curly, the cut is still wonderful. I have so much more lift -- and it's something a little edgier than just "long layers" (which I had done forever before the short cut). Bottom line: If you have hair like mine and are worried about going somewhere, Dagaz is a great place. FYI - I only get cuts, and both times it has been around $80 + tip. Alicia at Dagaz has been giving me consistently great haircuts for over 5 years now. I get compliments frequently on my hair. The setting is nice, as are the people there. Not stuffy at all, dog and kid friendly. As long as I live in Marin I'll be getting my cuts there. You can grab a beer or glass of wine from next door to enjoy during your cut as well. I don't want to tell you where I've been getting my haircut...it was out of financial necessity and while it was a good cut, I knew the time had come to splurge on a professional cut. Tony was awesome! He was on time and professional and friendly. He didn't mind too much that I colored my hair at home and really seemed to know I wanted a new style but wanted to keep the length. OK, I'm becoming a Lisa Fiedler addict. My last fix was a Brazilian blowout, which is a keratin therapy treatment that straightens and smooths hair. Lisa recommended this for me because I am the ultimate no-maintenance hair girl - I'm lucky if I remember to spritz a little de-frizz spray, and I use a blowdryer maybe twice a month. Also, I should admit that I have screwed up my hair at home with various attempts at color and bleaching (when will I ever learn!?), so I've got a lot of damage and frizzies. Cotton candy hair. So this Brazilian blowout left me with hair so soft, straight and frizz-free that I can let it air-dry, and IT LOOKS GOOD. No product. No blowdryer. Just silky, straight hair that looks as though it never saw a drop of bleach. And the SHINE. I haven't seen my hair this shiny in a loooong time. Next time I get my Lisa fix, I'll have her do my color too - deep tawny auburn is calling my name. read more

The whole staff of Dagaz is warm and friendly. The salon is filled with natural light and seems to be designed for client and stylist's comfort, alike. I've been to Lisa twice and both times I've walked out thinking "that was the best haircut experience." When I told Lisa that I was growing my hair out she responded enthusiastically and was quite careful to cut off the least amount of hair as possible.
