I wouldn't have tried this salon if it weren't for Candace! I found her over a year ago at another salon but followed her here because she is awesome! She is matched my hair color perfectly, gave it a touch of personality with a slight tint/highlight (don't know if that's the technical term or not), and cleaned up my ends perfectly. After our first appointment years ago, I was sold. I found my girl! I always ask her a lot of questions about hair care too but she doesn't mind at all. I came in to Studio 4 from San Francisco to see Kwandee. I have been seeing him for a few years now. My hair is in regrowth after chemo. It is super thick and curly and I hadn't cut it at all hoping that one day I would wake up and it would be 10 inches long and I could ponytail it again. That hasn't happened (aside from in my dreams) so I needed it shaped because it wouldn't even fit under a baseball cap anymore. I looked like grandpa from the Munsters :(. Kwandee tamed that mess and gave me a cute style I could wash and go, without fussing over it. Naomi has been cutting my hair for almost 7 years!! I have super thin, fine hang straight hair. I wear it usually cut in a "bob" of sorts. My hair has turned silver (naturally) and I really love the color. BUT: a good cut for this type of hair is crucial and Naomi nails it! She'll ask me "what would you like to do with your hair today?", and my answer is: "do whatever you think you need to do". I am always 100% satisfied and feel an extra layer of perky when I walk out of the door. Based on my sister's recommendation I booked an appointment with Naomi at Studio 4 in Larkspur. After a polite text exchange, in which she asked me several questions about who my sister was, what I wanted done with my hair, etc, she booked my appointment. I replied quickly and letting her know I was thankful and excited about the appointment because it was for my son's fast approaching wedding. I also happily complied with her request to bring a mask, and I let her know I was vaccinated and double boosted. A day later she canceled my appointment and any possible future appointments with me, saying she was sorry to disappoint me but she decided to not take on new clients because of an old injury or something.. what?! This implies she is still working and seeing other clients.. She couldn't honor this one appointment after committing to it? I was not "disappointed" but totally annoyed at her unprofessional, off-handed treatment, and put in a really tight and stressful position that close to the wedding. Also, I was not necessarily planning on becoming an ongoing client of hers and never indicated this - also unprofessional and self-centered of her to assume this. The right thing to do would have been to honor my appointment, at which Naomi could have let me know that she is scaling back on work and not taking new clients. Although she does not seem to mind, Naomi lost my sister as a client as well. Also, when I originally called Studio 4 to book an appointment the front reception was really rushed and rude. I know that sounds exaggerated, but I mean it), Julie Runco, is one of the best stylists I've ever worked with... and I lived/worked in the "biz" in LA for over 20 years! She is open, completely devoid of ego, listens, and makes it happen. Always sunny and positive. I LOVE the salon. Everyone is friendly, it's immaculate. I had the pleasure of working with Simone (when Julie was away on vacay), and loved that too. If I can figure out how to post the pics, you'll see how they helped me transition from my more stern, aspirational look (my brand is upscale, but my agent said I need to look more "approachable") to a much more "real person" look. You know how hard it is to switch stylists! I was growing weary with the same look and was on the hunt for a new style and color scheme for the top of my head. I waltzed into Studio 4 after being recommended to Melina by a pro make-up artist. This is the first time in years that I'm getting comments and compliments on my color and cut. The studio is cozy and clean and since my hair needs attention every 6 weeks or so, I'm pleased as punch with the results and I'm able to afford the upkeep. Melina is an artist when it comes to color and worked with me to achieve the notice I was after. I steered a friend to Studio 4 who recently spent hundreds of dollars on her hair color. I selected this salon based on reviews here. I don't think this is a cohesive salon with a particular style - but chairs rented to individual hairdressers (since the check is made payable to the individual stylist). Perhaps I just ended up with a stylist who does not do precision cuts - but I was very unhappy. several of my friends mentioned that the back of my hair looked like I had trusted my hair to SuperCuts! I suggest you interview each stylist and see pictures of their work before you let them near your hair. When it grows out a little - I will go back to the really expensive salon in SF. read more

I am visiting from out of town and decided on a whim that I wanted to have my hair cut and colored. I searched yelp and found Salon 4 and decided to give them a call to see if they could fit me in. I was able to come right in to see Melle. Yay! Melle is a sweet, kind lady that I immediately liked. We discussed what I wanted done to my hair and she did it exactly right. Usually when I leave a salon, I go right home and restyle my hair because they never do it how I like it. But I felt so good and pretty after Melle was done with me, I went out to lunch and shopping to show off my new hair. The salon itself is very comfortable and welcoming. Not stuffy or fussy as other salons can be. I just wish I lived here so Melle could be my regular stylist - but I will definitely come back to Studio 4 whenever I am in town! read more
