After I moved to Marin I searched high and low to find a great stylist to do my highlights and cuts. It's a scary prospect finding someone new but honestly, the outcome could not have been better. Denise Carvajal is hands down the best stylist I've ever had and I've been coloring my hair for decades. She specializes in blondes and is everything I was looking for: highly skilled, a great listener, empathetic and experienced. She really gets how important the outcome of your visit is for you! She's got a great problem solving approach. A previous stylist was having difficulty getting my hair to a nice bright blonde but somehow Denise figured it out also without damaging it. I have genetic alopecia so to say I'm touchy about my hair is an understatement. I feel 100% in the best hands. read more

I just scheduled my 3rd appointment with Ariana because of how wonderful she has made my hair look and feel. I have never in my life received so many compliments! I have had dark hair my entire life and beginning last year I started getting my hair highlighted by Ariana. She also cut beautiful layers using an inspo pic I found online. I have zero damage from the bleach and the placement of the highlights are perfect. I have so much fun styling my hair because of the work I've had done here. The vibes of the salon are also very comfortable, I really love how every stylist is friendly and engaged with their customers. Give them a try, I'm sure you'll be pleased :) read more

From the moment you arrive, Fox + Stone feels welcoming and perfectly situated in a lively, vibrant, walkable area. Kristina Tringali is the kind of stylist who never stops learning. She invests in classes and it shows in the results. Couldn't recommend her more! read more

Overpriced and completely out of date. Tried 2 different stylists for cuts - barely a step above supercuts for almost $200 per visit. Do not trust this place with your hair. read more

Arianna did a great job giving me a fun summer Bob! She was kind and skilled. The salon was clean and beautiful. The prices were very reasonable. read more

DANI IS THE BEST SKIN CARE SPECIALIST AROUND!! I just had the most rejuvenating enzyme facial from Dani at the new FAIRFAX LOCATION of Fox + Stone. She had such vast knowledge and recommendations for my sensitive and extremely particular aging skin ( mid 40's ). I highly recommend getting in with her ASAP!! read more

I did not love my experience with this salon, unfortunately. My first impression was not a good one - I arrived early for my appointment and as time grew closer I could see that my stylist was behind, I asked the woman at the front desk if she was running on time and she said, "no, the client before you arrived 20 minutes late so she's running behind by at least that amount of time." I was visibly not happy and explained I have a hard stop at the 1.5 hour time after the scheduled start to my appointment as I have to get to work. I could not believe the total lack of respect for peoples time by this place. If the previous client is running late you either tell that client that they will have to reschedule or you call the client behind her to apologize and inform them. I waited 2.5 weeks for this appointment and your first impression is running late with no communication. Also definitely didn't love the cut, and there was no communication of how I like my hair styled, she just went to work using heat on my hair without asking. Once I checked the cut the next morning after a wash you could see all of the uneven chops and as a result it grew out terribly. $150 + tip for my time to be disrespected, to be late back to work, with an uneven cut. I've had to let it grow out so long now to try to even things out for the next cut. I don't recommend this shop for POC or anyone with natural curly hair. First impressions are everything and that was pretty awful, not even an acknowledgment or apology for running so late. read more

I have been searching long and hard for a good stylist. My problem was I could never find someone that listened and showed me change. I would fall in love with the cut and color and then see the stylist again and again and when I asked for something different it would be the same. Amy was my saving grace. She listens and understands what I want. I never get the same cut and color because that's what I want. She's great to work with, just the right amount of chattiness... ladies you know what I'm talking about. She is an expert at color and style and while she is expensive (atleast for me ) she is worth every penny. I highly recommend her. She truly cares about her clients needs and is a great artist. read more

Holly is amazing. So happy with my color. Great location, beautiful salon. Highly recommended

I just had my hair cut and highlighted for the first time by Arbor who was highly recommended by my friend who's hair always looks amazing (months after her cut). Arbor has a great eye and is obviously very knowledgable. I love that she took the time to look at my overall proportions and explain how different lengths would balance with my height and stature. She put my hair up to balance how my face framing bits would fall when I want to do this. The salon now has 2 locations (new one in Fairfax which I love) and is nice and airy with a fun boho decor. Will definitely recommend Arbor to friends! read more

I wanted to jump up and down. Found our place. Why yes we did. Yay. Well...almost. The hairdresser, Sonya, was lovely and did an excellent job. It was only a trim with a few layers to frame the face and take some weight off. She made my Sadie with her full luscious locks look terrific. I was happy and so was my sweet Goose. So why not 5 stars? I'll tell ya. It was very expensive. Very. Like very. Upper salon price range. Nothing shocking but that was an expensive trim. Add a 20% tip and wow. So if it's that much then not only should the stylist be superb but so too should the space; it should be uber plush and relaxing. Nope, this was not that. I would have liked to have felt that we were in a luxurious place and, well, that's not Fox and Stone space. But that being said, we paid for an amazing cut and got just that. Would you rather have a super elegant waiting room and a crappy surgeon or an average, meh, waiting room and a great surgeon. No question, the latter. But how about both? Why can't we have both? Not a deal breaker but being in a swanky space, sipping a latte while waiting would have been nice. Just sayin' :) read more

I saw that Jacqueline was offering free haircuts as an apprentice in this salon and made an appointment with her via text ($15 I think for product costs but no charge for the apprentice/stylist). Communicating with Jacqueline and scheduling the haircut was easy breezy. The salon is very cute, and I like that the space gets lots of happy sunlight. Jacqueline is very friendly with a gentle touch. I'm really sensitive and don't like it when stylists brush my hair harshly (like the mother in Like Water for Chocolate), which sometimes happens. As she is an apprentice, if you book during one of these apprentice slots, you will need to be a little more patient and a little more understanding, but I really loved my experience and cut. read more

Sonja, the colorist I went to see is lovely, respectful, intellectually curious and a gifted artisan and colorist. I would reccomend her work which offered me the warm melifluous colors I asked for with polished and subtle effect. Unfortunately, I cannot reccomend the salon the way I can recommend the stylist. When I arrived and went to bathroom the barn door literally fell off. When I later complained to the owner, who was called Holly, saying that it ought to be fastened securely so as to avoid potential injury, she said that she didn't address me when the door fell down because I was cursing and that she "doesn't engage with that kind of energy". I'm not sure which health and safety standard apply to salons, but I'm pretty sure that unsecured doors that are not properly hinged are not considered maintaing safe premises to the reasonable person. I hope no one is hurt as a result of this willfull negligence. read more

Ariana is fantastic! She has helped me update my hair innumerable times over the years from long to short to a beachy mid-length bob. She executes my vision with an incredible eye to detail and my hair always comes out better than I had anticipated. She's helped me go from my standard dark blonde to deep red and back to blonde again with natural-looking highlights. Go to her! You won't be disappointed. read more

Nice, cute, small salon in a quaint neighborhood. Always busy. Parking was easy. I came here twice and Hillary was my stylist. First time visit was great. I won a voucher for a cut and style through a Gala boys & girls club event. I was able to redeem it. Anna was awesome at styling. Not sure if she still works there. Hillary was very detailed and paid attention to my hair cut. She took her time. Her work seemed like art. She gave me lovely long layers with Zoe bangs. My husband loved it. Family and friends complimented on my hair. I gave a 5 star review on their FB. It was an awesome experience. On my second visit and will be my last. When I saw Hillary and greeted, I stuck out my hand for a handshake. She saw my hand but didn't stick out her hand for a shake. That was odd & rude. I quickly drew my hand back like nothing happened. I asked for the same look as before. Hillary wasn't too detailed this time around. It was rushed and the layers/style wasn't that great as before. We had a good chat but she seemed snooty and nonchalant. At the end of service, the cashier said, that'll be $120. I was surprised. Hillary didn't quote me what my price will be in the beginning. I felt robbed. On their website, it stated $80 and up. It was ridiculous. Yes, my hair is thick and long. I thought I was going to pay $100. An extra $20 would be reasonable. I didn't think she'll charge me an extra $40 (that's basically another half service added on). It was the most expensive haircut ever in my whole life. Plus I had to tip. I left home and felt not satisfied. I told everyone of my not so-good experience. I won't be coming back. I found another hair salon that charges $35 for my hair. The haircut and style was just as good. I sure gave them a really good tip at that place. read more

I had a haircut at Fox and Stone because it was the only option available. Boy do I wish that I had waited. After showing the stylist , who is also the owner, a photo of the style I wanted and explaining also how I wanted it cut I got a VERY bad cut. It did not resemble the photo that she barely glanced at and was cut way too short in the back which I explicitly said I wanted longer than the sides. WTF lady! First I got my hair scalped and then my wallet!! I have never paid such a high price even in Santa Barbara's premier salons. Now I will be suffering for three months until it grows out. Well maybe a better salon will be open by then let's all hope. This place is a travesty. Beware! read more

Okay...why oh why do I wait so long to see Wendy when I know she makes me look and feel so good. Yesterday after a 1.5 year hiatus I went back and asked for a "Do Over", "Restart", whatever. She just shook her head and started in with her magic. That's just what it is Magic. My hair looks, feels and curls PERFECTLY. I made my next appointment for 9 weeks from now....VOW not to go another 1.5 years without feeling this good again. Whats good for the hair is good for the psyche. ;) I almost regret writing this because if I do it's going to be even harder to get in to see her....that's the only problem - nearly a 2 month wait. Damn! read more

Don't hate me because I have fabulous hair, because I don't. Left to its own devices my hair has the attitude of a thirteen-year-old girl. Enter Melanie Marie... Melanie is a highly skilled, extremely professional stylist and colorist. She truly understands hair and really listens to her customers. She keeps my look fresh, stylish, and manageable without being too dramatic. SF girls, don't get in a tizzy because it's in Corte Madera. A simple hop over the bridge, followed by a quick exit off 101 will get you there. There's plenty of free parking with lots of cute shops along the way. read more

Janette and I have a long-term relationship. Longer than any man I've ever been with. We are marching towards eight happy hairdresser-client relationship years. She's made me a redhead, a brunette, given me funky blonde highlights, gone long, short and diligently covers those pesky grays. She's a magician taming my curly hair into a layered pin straight do that makes me feel like a movie star. I can honestly say she's never given me a bad haircut. And believe me, I've had a lifetime of those. If she ever retires, I may just have to shave my head. read more

Alis is the best! I went to her for the first time and am never looking back! She did superb all over highlights with several colors...very natural looking. The cut is swingy and just what I wanted. Never dull and always fabulous! I have been seeing Lizette for years now. I always wanted a hair colorist/stylist who would be willing to give their opinion on what I wanted done. Every time I leave the salon I feel confident and excited for a fresh new me. Highly recommended! read more

I stopped by to book my Saturday appointment with Amy on a Thursday. When Saturday rolled around the receptionist remembered me by name which really impressed me. Maybe this is a Corte Madera thing, and if so I love it. She also brought me a huge cup of coffee (hmmm maybe she could tell I had woken up only 15 minutes earlier). I was completely ready to chop off all my hair thinking it was dead but Amy took the time to look at the damage and think about what style frames my face best. She recommended leaving length and to my surprise a lot of my hair was actually healthy and just needs to be more moisturized. I was also not sure whether to cut my bangs or let them grow - the ongoing struggle that everyone with bangs goes through. We commiserated about it for a bit and Amy suggested not cutting them just yet. She cleaned them up a bit, and said I could come any time before my next haircut and I could just get them cut if I changed my mind. It felt good not having to make the rush decision then and there. I think this place is worth the try and could potentially be updated to a 5 in the future. I wish prices were cheaper but I do value the time and energy that they put into my hair and of course I value leaving the salon happy. read more

Wahoo! is right! Alis at A Line and I have been together for many years now and I see her at least once a month to take care of my color, she is my saviour! The entire salon rocks! Love Sasha. She's been cutting my hair for years and I've never been disappointed. Normally, I don't ever go to chic salons such as this one, as I'm far too much of a "just-a-trim" girl who takes issue with spending more $30 per cut. Plus, I have super thick and curly yet fine hair, which makes me all the more hesitant to trust anyone with my hair. However, with my upcoming wedding date, I knew I was going to have to invest in a show-stopping cut and color, especially since the ends of my hair are still recovering from the days when I used to dye it black. Enter Lizette. She didn't try to enforce a particular style upon me (as many do) and consulted my pinterest board before meeting for our initial appointment. She successfully gave me a shoulder-length bob and bangs that look great -- no matter if naturally curly or straightened. I'll be returning in a few weekends to get highlights done - so excited! read more

I love the atmosphere and vibe as much as I love the attentive and awesome staff at Fox and Stone Salon. The music is always just right, and a cup of tea makes me feel comfortable and welcomed. I appreciate the professionalism as much as the conversation and good humor of the ladies of F & S. They listen to what I want and can take the hair I have and give me the look and feel I'm wanting every time. I always leave the salon wishing I had big plans to showcase my fab hair. Alicia is the absolute best! I am a super picky blonde and had been going to the same hair dresser for 7 years in Arizona, and then when I moved back home to the bay area 3 years ago I didn't know of a good person. When I called into the salon I asked to be with someone who was really good at blonde highlights. They put me with Alicia and it has been gorgeous locks since then. She listens to exactly what you want while giving you realistic expectations. The color and the cut are always exactly what I want. I introduced two of my friends to her and they are hooked. I feel like a new woman. Kelli did a great job! I love going to A line salon and I think the place looks so cute with it's new facelift. I am so excited about my haircut that I have to share! ... After 4 years of living in Marin County I have finally found my hair stylist!! I saw Melanie for the first time on Saturday and she is amazing at what she does! She really takes the time to listen to your needs and works magic with your hair to achieve them! My hair is SO thick, coarse & frizzy that I was beginning to think I'd never really "love" it. But I was SO impressed by my haircut, it truly is the best cut I've had since leaving my favorite hair stylist in L.A, 7 years ago! She also gave me some great styling tips and recommended some products that really work wonders with my hair... I've got nothing but compliments since :) I've been to many high end salons in Marin County and San Francisco and they don't compare - I will definitely be sticking with Melanie from now on! Plus A-Line Salon is super cute, in a great location with plenty of parking & everyone is very friendly... I am SO happy! :) read more

I love A Line. I have been going to different stylists there for about 8 years and have never been disappointed. Mandie is awesome! I always love my hair cut. She's also given me some very useful tips for my seriously unruly wavy hair that are easy to use. When Mandie was unavailable to do an up-do for a wedding I was in, she recommended Hillary and now I want Hillary to do my hair for my wedding! She listened to exactly what I wanted and did it perfectly. The up-do lasted for over 12 hours and the only reason it came out was because I took it out. She is wonderful! read more

Janette is the greatest!! She was meant to be my hair stylist. I've been with her now for several years. She knows my life story, my secrets, oh and most importantly my HAIR!! She has given me the best hair styles and color! My hair has been black with bright red, multi-colored locks, a-line, long layers, rockin' whatever...she never lets me down. Came in for a haircut some time ago and it was good enough - the stylist knew what she was doing, but the check in process and check out experience could use some work. Receptionist was far from friendly, seemed to get lost in the closet behind the desk and when she finally came out she forgot who I was seeing. Check out was awkward - there was really no good bye or thank you, just pay for it and see you later. Lastly, it says on Yelp "good for kids" but when I inquired about kids haircuts, they said they didn't do children nor could they refer me anywhere. read more

I had a horrible experience at this salon for my bridal hair/makeup consultation. The stylist, Hilary, kept me waiting for over 20 minutes with no explanation. When I showed her the pictures of hairstyles I liked and explained what I wanted, she said it didn't make "sense." I tried to explain to her a little more about what I wanted and she went to work on teasing my hair. Five minutes into this, she talks to another client and then walks to the reception desk. She walks back to me and asks if we can reschedule as another client is waiting. I had driven over 40 minutes to get to the salon! When I protest, she says she's not sure we'll be able to work together. At this point I tell her to forget the whole thing and walk out. This was probably the WORST customer service experience I have ever had. read more

I had a bad experience at this shop. Parking was difficult to start with. The stylist , I don't remember her name as she wasn't very friendly and acted like she was doing me a favor. I booked for a full highlight and cut but once I was there she said she didn't have time to do what I booked for. She only did a partial highlight instead. She took another client while she waited for my hair color to take but kept me waiting so long she over processed it and destroyed my hair. It has taken two months and three hair appointments at another place to correct the damage she did to my hair. Stay away! read more

Walking in the staff was friendly-ish though no one told me to change into a robe. The haircut was not good. Very uninspiring and she did not listen when I said to take more off and give me layers. Just trimmed bottom. It's fine, just something you could get at a much cheaper salon. read more
