I reached out to Juliana (Juli) to get a full balayage and she definitely understood what I wanted. This is my first time EVER getting my hair bleach + toned. I was nervous because I've never done nothing to my hair and I knew that Juliana was the right person to go to. I let her have full creativity as I knew she is very professional. I've seen her work for so many years I fully trusted her. We definitely connected right away and the conversations did not feel forced. It was a very chill vibe that I definitely enjoyed from a salon, she made me feel welcomed, was very opened and honest about the process. I love how she told me the steps that she was going to do as it was my first time and she knew i was nervous. I do highly recommend getting your hair done with her as is amazing quality; her way to communicate with clients is truly amazing. I will definitely go back to rebook with her. I am very happy of the work that she did on me. My confidence has gotten better even though she said I already had a good confidence that made me feel so good about myself. I truly truly love her work! thank you so much, Juliana.

Uneven dye lines leaving me with a cake layer effect of dyed hair.

Terrible experience. This review is for color with Devon. When my hair was wet, and pushed back from my face, it looked uniform, and good. I erroneously assumed my hair would be blended throughout. During the blow dry, she came over and chatted with the person who did my blow dry. Then she left before it was dry. She never checked back. I didn't realize how bad my color came out until after I'd left the salon, after I left tips. It was when looked in my car mirror. No blend between the darkened roots and rest of hair. Furthermore the color is literally spotty in some places. That evening, my SO said it looked like Devon was careless, and that it looks like when I was doing the roots myself during COVID (untrained and with heavy root lines). I'm utterly embarrassed by my hair. Even after washing, it still has this mix of spots and lines.

I would leave zero stars if i could. I made the mistake of scheduling my appointment the day before leaving for vacation. Now I have to go on vacation with patchy bright orange hair :( I came in for a consultation for a cut and color last week, and Erin told me the price of my full service. I confirmed with the front desk to schedule me for a color AND haircut. One week later I arrive for my service and I am informed they don't have time to cut my hair. The woman at the front desk tells me that there must have been some miscommunication instead of apologizing for the mistake. My hair colorist then assured me that she heard me book for a haircut as well. My flight leaves the following morning so I cannot book for another time. This was my first issue. Erin then asks me what exactly i want done again. I told her my (brown) roots (shown in the first photo) are grown out and I want them dyed to match the length of my (auburn) hair. I made it very clear that I don't want the top of my hair lightened at all because I am concerned about the integrity of my hair. She doesn't understand how to dye it this color, even after the consultation so I showed her a swatch of what i thought matched my hair. I am frustrated at this point because my request was simple: Pick a color that matches my current auburn color as close as possible. She ends up using 20 volume developer with a bright orange and uneven application to my roots and processes it until my roots are all lightened to a neon yellow and orange. I was in complete shock and told her I don't like it so she toned it darker and assures me it won't cost more. As you can see in the after photos (same bathroom lighting), the toner barely worked. My roots are still bright orange, yellow, blonde, and patchy. The bottom layer of my hair was previously dyed blonde, and she said she would tone that layer of my hair to a peach tone. I'm not sure what she did though because it looks the same, just more yellow I went to the front desk to pay and my total was $55 more than the initial amount I was told, and this is without receiving the haircut! There was an extra $40 for a conditioning treatment, that's fine. This leaves my total $15 higher than what I was told. This price would have been no problem at all had I been given an accurate price per service last week at the consultation. Firstly, I am denied a service that I booked; Second, I end up with a completely different color (or colors) than I had asked for, and I'm being charged not only for the full service that i did not receive, but extra?!? I could've used a $15 box dye and gotten more consistent and accurate color. I am at a loss for words about how unprofessionally this SHITuation was handled. I am a full time student in college and I work full time. It was saddening to spend even more of my hard-earned money than i initially agreed to for a hairstyle i feel ugly in . At the very least please learn to give your paying customers accurate price estimates.

Had a great transformation with Ally. Cut off around 8 inches and I'm thrilled with my hair. Thank you.

Ask the Community - D&O Salon

Can someone do hi and low lights on graying hair?

Hi Elizabeth! The answer is "yes," and I recommend that you book a consultation with Danny McCarthy so he can explain to you what to expect.

Fantastic salon! I've been going to Jess for waxing for a dozen years and to Caitlin for haircuts…read morefor about two years. Both do amazing work. Front desk staff is highly professional and friendly and the salon is always immaculate. I am almost always able to get the time slot I need for back-to-back appointments with them, and the best part is they never, ever run late. I don't live in Mill Valley and I'm very busy with work, and I cannot stand it when I drive for half an hour to get to an appointment and the stylist is running half an hour late. This never happens at Milvali. They have a wide variety of high-quality products for sale but they don't push product. They always offer coffee or water, and they have little treats in the rooms. It's a friendly, community- and customer-oriented professional salon with a positive energy and friendly staff. Which is why they're very busy.

Milvali salon feels more like a assembly line chop shop vs high end salon experience. I've had two…read moreservices here and both fell short. I had a haircut here, which I ended up waiting for the stylist for over an hour. When she finally saw me she said it was bc some scraggly haired woman with her extensions came in last minute demanding she fix her hair, and so she spent hours re bonding (or whatever the term is?) the hair. I'm not trying to be mean here, but the woman had very fine blonde hair that was bob length and got hair down to her waist. My aside here is ...ladies...can we just love what we have and maybe do any enhancements in moderation instead of totally going overboard with the extensions down to our tushies?! And, yes, I was rightfully upset bc I had an appt and this woman did not, yet I had to wait for my scheduled service?? Totally doesn't make sense. The kicker was when I told the stylist she should have rescheduled me if she was going to be so late, and her response was that she didn't want to lose another customer that day. Welp, she definitely lost me as a customer, because I'd never go back to her. The cut was okay but overall a mind boggling experience and a waste of my time. The other experience I had was getting a facial from an aesthetician. I specifically let her know I didn't want any animal tested or animal products on my skin. And yet, she slapped collagen on my face (and it wasn't marine collagen). She also didn't do any arm or neck massage, which is odd because with all the facials I've had at other places, I've always had a light massage while a mask is on my face. When I asked about the massage, the aesthetician said she leaves the room while my mask is on vs doing a massage. Additionally, she kept using the term "anti-aging", despite me sharing that I'm not against what natural process happens to us all, and I don't like language that makes us hate a natural process. I think (especially in a spa or salon setting) there are far more positive terms we can use to describe caring for our skin. Rejuvenating, refreshing, aging with grace, naturally enhancing...sounds far more from a place of love and acceptance for ourselves than "anti-aging". From both of these less than par experiences, my take away was that I was in a low caliber salon, and not a specialized, leveled up establishment. It's been a year and I haven't returned, nor would I recommend this place to others.
