Hairmates is near our bank, so I walked in and made an appt. I had to wait 2 weeks. The facility looks a little rundown, but I don't take off much for that. My complaint was the haircut. I told the lady who cut my hair (forgot her name), that I wanted it to be essentially what I have already, just trimmed and shaped. I walked out feeling almost scalped. She cut it way too short. I could have put a bowl on my head and done a better job. Once she was done butchering my original style, she started thinning with a razor blade. I almost stopped her, but thought "she knows what she's doing"...NOT. It cost $45 and was literally the worst haircut I've ever gotten and I'm not a spring chicken. We had a trip to the mainland about 3 months later, so I let my hair grow and went to my old stylist. She fixed the mess and took pictures with my phone. Now on my next search, I'll show the stylist my phone and say, "I want that!"

After reading the not so nice review about the "old man in the back right corner" I was even more apprehensive when he came to get me outside in the line. What the heck it's just hair so in I went. What I learned was the old man is Nelson. He is 80 years old. He travels to Alaska to go fishing when he can and was a genuinely nice guy. He went to barber school in 1953 and has been cutting hair in that shop since 1971! My hair is a regular layered cut kind of a old style guys cut with a part on one side. Other barbers have left me with the left side flipping up or a cow lick on the back. Nelson did a great job and exactly what I asked for. No flip or cow lick. When I got home my wife said wow that's a great haircut. My hair did not feel dirty and I so far have not broken out in boils. So, if you are a young person wanting a trendy fade or letters cut into your hair you might give Nelson a pass. But, if your an older guy like me and just want a conservative well done haircut, Nelson is your guy. In any case, at 80 years old this old uncle probably doesn't need your business or your disrespect.
