After reading a few of these low score posts I almost gave this place a pass but I needed a haircut. After reading the not so nice review about the "old man in the back right corner" I was even more apprehensive when he came to get me outside in the line. What the heck it's just hair so in I went. What I learned was the old man is Nelson. He is 80 years old. He travels to Alaska to go fishing when he can and was a genuinely nice guy. He went to barber school in 1953 and has been cutting hair in that shop since 1971! My hair is a regular layered cut kind of a old style guys cut with a part on one side. Other barbers have left me with the left side flipping up or a cow lick on the back. Nelson did a great job and exactly what I asked for. No flip or cow lick. When I got home my wife said wow that's a great haircut. My hair did not feel dirty and I so far have not broken out in boils. So, if you are a young person wanting a trendy fade or letters cut into your hair you might give Nelson a pass. But, if your an older guy like me and just want a conservative well done haircut, Nelson is your guy. In any case, at 80 years old this old uncle probably doesn't need your business or your disrespect. read more

In 2020 I visited this barber several times. However, it got progressively worse. I liked the first barber. I forget his name, but he is a tall, older, Asian man and cuts hair in the far corner. He was ok. However, the next barber was bad and the last barber was horrendous. I don't think the second barber used clean clippers because my skin broke out afterwards. It had never broken out like that before too. This time a shorter, old, Asian man cut my hair in the right corner. I got the same haircut every time just so you know. It's shaved around the sides and long on top. It's very simple. The last barber was the worst and why I won't return. In the chair on the right, a younger, chubby kid actually trimmed some of my long hairs on both sides of my head. Now they are growing out and a few inches long. However, he screwed up big time and it has not looked right. I don't know if he tried to do a bad job or if he is horrible at his job. Nonetheless, I would stay away from this barber shop because they do a terrible job and cannot be trusted. read more

What a terrible joke of a barber shop. I call about a beard shave, and they say to come in. I drive out of my way and I come in. Now they say no shaves because I need to keep my mask on.... As a guy is sitting in a chair with a mask below his chin. I point out that I'm vaccinated and that I've been tested to come on the island. No exaggeration, the barber now starts yelling. I say "why are you yelling at me?" and I walk out. A true mess and my one bad experience in three weeks on the islands. PS. The shop is a dump. And PPS. Per usual, I enlisted my fellow Yelpers to help me find a good barber in the area, and you guys did not disappoint! I went about 9:30 a.m. on a Wednesday, and it wasn't too busy. A little boy was getting his hair cut, and another teenager was getting his hair cut by Randy. A very nice older gentleman cut my hair, and he and I were able to decide on a good cut straight away. The lady in the front that cut the her for my boyfriend wasn't the most welcoming, he felt that she wasn't the most experienced. He asked her for a fade and it wasn't the best one. She was quick which is good but I'm used to a 30 mins haircut. Overall I didn't like it. Only go here if you need a haircut critically. I live locally and go here often and always get a great haircut, but I always go to the younger guy in the back left corner. I've also got a haircut from the female at the front left corner. This day the younger guy wasn't working and I got a haircut from the old guy at the very back right corner. Unlike before, I had to keep my mask on during the haircut. I'm guessing due to the recent confirmed positive cases on Kauai. I understand, but the old guy completely ignored me when I told him how to cut my hair. I said, "low fade." He ran the clippers up high on the sides. I told him a little off the top. He took a lot off the top with the clippers. My hair on top is long enough to use scissors which were used by the younger guy and anyone that cut my hair before. The really irritating issue is he wouldn't move my mask around to clean up my hairline around the ears. So, I had to do the best I could when I got home. Also, I've been getting haircuts with clippers for a number of years. Prior military too. As I'm sure most can relate, when the haircut is finished you can tell when the clippers weren't sanitized after the last person. Your head just feels dirty. When not sanitized the clippers will cause infected hairs from the bacteria on them. I had to clean my head with rubbing alcohol. Plus, he didn't even bother brushing off the loose hair on my face and neck. When I paid him I gave him $20 cash. He took it and didn't ask if I wanted change. He said, "thank you", turned around, and put the $20 in the cash box. Basically, would highly recommend this place. Just go to the young guy at the back left and the female at the front left. They're really great and give awesome service and haircuts. DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT go to the old guy at the back right. He doesn't listen and simply doesn't care, or at least gives that impression. I think he would rather be sitting on the couch at home. Solution, retire. Probably better for business. read more

On the island for holidays and I needed my overgrown mop looked after. I dropped in and after a 15 min wait in this old school shop I was sat down with a lovely Asian lady. I had been watching the other customers get shorn pretty close so when she asked what I wanted I just said "lose about half". At any rate a short time later I was done and my cut was fantastic! Very good shaping and length... just perfect! I wish I could go back and visit whenever I need an update but as I live in Canada that would be tough. If you need a little more attention to detail, book some time with Randy for $18... You won't regret it!!! It's first come, first served (unless you book with Randy). THIS SHOP IS FOR BASIC/EASY HAIRCUTS. I have been going to this place ever since I was a kid and they have done great every time. I've asked for the same cut, 2-1 fade with short trim. I don't know them personally so take that out. They aren't the most enthusiastic when you enter but they get it done right.
