I went to hair cuttery. I went to the one near H Mart in Burke. First time I went the cost of my hair color was $74. I thought it was reasonable as the salon I went to also in Burke ( xpression) was decent until my hair dresser retired and recommended Rose She was okay, but when I asked for layers, she nearly made me bald. So I went to hair cutters this time Vida charged me $100 for hair color and put color I didn't ask. It already looks fade. She charged me $30 for styling, with very short hair cut. when I confronted her about the price she gave some flaky excuses that prices and she was a specialis. I don't want to ever set foot there. You've been warned. I previously went to this place due to location for mediocre service but it was just me. When my child started going we had three instances where they either couldn't find the online appointment or just overbooked. For those with children you can imagine your child asking you why did someone else go first while we had an appointment. I did notice that those who were getting more expensive appointments got preferential treatment. So if your going for overpriced hair appointments I guess it's fine but for anything no less you've been warned. But before you judge my comment the last time I went I had a lady ask me when was your appointment because she had been waiting past her time and also a young man who told both of use he had been told to just sit and wait. In closing my child and I went to a near by barber who even though busy seated us and cut their hair as soon as we got in. I will not be going to this establishment ever again and wanted to pass along my experience so that you are aware. read more

The five stars are mainly for one particular stylist. ROXANNE is one of the best stylists in the area and it doesn't send you to the poor house to visit! She has a real eye for current styles and will do what you ask. I love her because I really don't know what I want but i implicitly trust her to do something I will love. Not one time in many years have I been in pleased at the results. She is a great conversationalist and remembers her clients. She has watched my kids grow and loves it that they still go to her as adults. My kids love her! She also speaks Spanish, which is a real benefit for many. Now for the rest of the place... it isn't the most tidy salon in the world. It really should be swept and polished more often. The inside, despite several facelifts, is still pretty drab. Some bright vibrant colors would really give it a boost. I do like that you can make an appointment on line but you don't need one as they do walk ins. Well that's another thing you should know. Some of the stylists have been here upwards of 20 years and don't have a loyal customer base. I have seen people leave in tears because they got butchered. The older ladies are not as current with the styles they can do and that is a real problem. There is one stylist that just sits in her chair watching movies on her phone all day until someone comes in and there is nobody else to do the cut. I would definitely not want someone who is a go getter. So I would stay clear of the other stylists and stick with Roxanne!!! read more

I found my lady NI here, and been going to her since I moved to Burke. I went to different hair salons but always end up go back to NI. Her cut always not to short and just perfect. Just received the worst cut of my life. Told her to take off an inch or so, and layer it (same haircut and instructions I always get) instead she took off almost ALL of my hair. If you value your hair, find another place... theres a good chance they just buzz off 8 inches of hair when you asked them to take off 1 inch. I should've walked out 30 seconds into the cut. I decided to try someone new since my regular hairstylist wasn't in, yeah worst mistake I probably got the worst haircut I've ever gotten in my life. I asked for just a trim at the ends. First I get charged for a long haircut even though my hair was at my shoulders I argue with her telling her how I shouldn't be charged for long hair but she ignores me. She finishes my haircut and blow dry and my hair wasn't burnt first of all then the haircut came out no where near from what I wanted. How do you mess up a haircut that's just my question especially if you've been doing this for "years". read more

I just tried this salon on a whim, being in drastic need of an affordable haircut. When I saw the prices listed for coloring, I decided to splurge for a balyage highlight (partial). My stylist was VAN, and boy did I hit the jackpot with her. She is a perfectionist and meticulous in her craft. She made me feel so comfortable and calm, and asked plenty of questions before during and after the procedures. The coloring she suggested came out perfect, natural, and sun-kissed. The cut was just what I asked for as well. In addition, she must have spent a good 15 minutes or more conditioning my hair at no additional charge (it was really dry from lack of care). It feels so much healthier, light, and swingy. Please go see Van! Especially you fellow fine-haired ladies... really, her balyage and coloring skills are those that rival a senior stylist in any major city. Thank you VAN! I will see you again soon. PS - the salon itself is clean, but don't expect anything fancy/frilly. There were a lot of walk-ins, especially by men. I took a risk and scheduled an appointment at Haircuttery in Burke commons because of their high reviews. Booking online you get to pick the stylist you want and since we have never tried them I picked "any stylist" and we got lucky and got Van! She is a senior stylist and my daughter came out loving her hair! This is now our favorite go to for haircut! read more

Due to too many bad cuts at this location prior to the lockdowns, I started going to the Fairfax Station location. Unfortunately, the Fairfax Station location has been permanently closed. I've now been back to this location twice and both times was sorely disappointed that the stylist didn't cut my hair the way I'd requested. Unless you want to pay $35+ to get your hair cut the way the stylist wants instead of how you want it cut, then I'd go somewhere else. I know I'm going to be finding a new hair salon so I can get my hair cut the way I want. read more

Honestly the WORST place to go to. At the hair washing station, she took a very long time because she was talking to the other employees (which I have no problem with, but it shouldn't take 30 min to wash hair). I told the lady to do light layers... she made my hair look like a three tier cake. She also took 10 min to cut my hair, but 30 to wash it. I told her that I wanted my hair to be up to my shoulders, but she said that it wouldn't look good...She cut it to an awkward length (just below my shoulders) and told me that it would be shorter once it's dry...She never dried my hair and she bolted out the door to go to Sally's to get hair dye for another customer. Also their card machine takes so long and I just wanted to get out of there. I tipped the lady $5 because the other employees were standing over me to add pressure to tip. I guess I went to the wrong Hair Cuttery in Burke, I read reviews online last night about how great it was not realizing there were two different locations! I can see now that this one is the worse of the two based off the other reviews here. About my experience - I went in hoping to get a shampoo, cut, and blow dry which is advertised as $25 on the sign they have hanging up above the register. When I spoke to my hairdresser I told her that was what I wanted and that I wanted 4 inches cut off. She told me it would be $35 because my hair was too long and if I wanted to pay $25 I would need to get it cut shorter. I said it's 10 extra dollars to get a few extra inches dried??? She said yes. (I'm pretty sure she just didn't want to actually blow dry my hair since this was not advertised anywhere in the store). I said that's fine then, I don't want my hair blowdried I'll just do it at home. So we agreed she wouldn't dry it but then instead of cutting off 4 inches she cut off about 6-7 inches! She could have dried it anyways now that it was "short enough" to be in the $25 length!! I'm pretty upset about it because I did not want my hair THAT short. Another thing was that she did not ask where my natural part was and just kept parting it in the middle and cutting based off that, I've never had my hair cut like this before, and now it will probably be uneven when I wear it down. Lastly, the customer service in general in this place is extremely poor. The woman who greeted me who I am assuming may me the manager was not very friendly, and my hairdresser didn't talk to me at all. One other thing that happened when I was paying was some lady waiting for a haircut just whipped out her boob right in front of me and started breast feeding her infant child. I'm not from this area originally so I'm not sure if this is considered "normal" but I've lived here for about 2 years and have never seen anything like this. The people who worked there didn't say anything, even though I was clearly completely disgusted by it not to mention it was very awkward!!! My husband and I have been going to this Hair Cuttery for 12+ years. Vu always does my hair exactly right -- never too short, which is my greatest fear. She's also a very skilled colorist and does highlights that look totally natural, barely noticeable. I have a short, very layered cut with a wedge in the back; I can just run a wet comb through it, fluff it, and I'm ready to go. My husband goes to several people including Jenny, and his basic man cut is just fine. Every few years I go to a pricey place, thinking I must be missing something, and even if I give them free reign to advice and/or alter my style, I don't end up looking any better or different. At most, they use mousse and fluff my bangs up so that I look like a terrified squirrel in a high wind -- not "the real me." So I'm sticking with my dependable Hair Cuttery and laughing all the way to the bank! read more

Please stay away from Jenny. I asked for a trim of just half inch and cuts like an inch off and can't even comb my hair to the side. Also she is rough with the razor by pushing the razor hard against my head and gave me razor burn and told me it was normal. She acts she did nothing wrong until I had to confront her and make a scene and then she apologized that's when I knew she was a fake. Just please stay away from Jenny she wear glasses. I didn't mess with my color was was told my hair was damaged due to the harsh chemicals they used to color my hair. CAN cut my hair precisely how I asked. I am so happy! Worst Hair Cuttery ever!!! I did not know the name of the woman who shampoo and blow dry my hair, but please stay away from this hair salon branch. She shampoo me only once which she took less than 3 minutes and condition my hair with also less than 3 minutes. Plus, all the water splash on my face. She did not even control the pressure of the water. Before she blow dry my hair, she uses some kind of spray and spray it all over my hair down to my face. Even I used my hands to cover my face for signaling her that I don't want the spray to get on my face, she still kept doing that. The only one star I would give is because she still knows how to blow dry. This shampoo+blow dry process took me about 15 minutes and cost $28. Disappointed!!! read more

Years ago I needed my hair set in curlers for a special event and thought to myself that I could save money by having it done at Hair Cuttery..after all, how can they screw this up? Well, let me just say that I should have known what I had in store when I first walked in and kept trying to explain I wanted my head set in curlers and the Asian woman kept saying "Color? Color"?". After we were able to get on the same page as one another and she began setting my hair in the curlers, I still remember to this day somehow having my head snapped repeatedly by the devices used to affix the curlers onto my head. After enduring this torture I ended up with an awful curly mess on top of my head. Luck would have it that the curls fell out by the time I drove around the corner to my house! I will never go to a Hair Cuttery again as long as I may live, however, for some reason my husband had decided on several occasions to go there to get a cheap haircut. Being that he is former military I think that anything other than a "high & tight" is an improvement in his eyes. It is sad, but he doesn't even have to tell me he went there for his haircut, because I just look at the end result and say "You went to Hair Cuttery, didn't you?", and I have always been right. read more
