I moved away a few months ago, but I still make the trip to see Olivia for my haircuts--and she's absolutely worth the drive. She's incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and one of the most talented stylists I've found in the area. What really sets her apart is her expertise with curly hair and a wide range of hair textures, which is hard to find and makes all the difference. The salon itself is always spotless, welcoming, and has such a great atmosphere. Everyone on the team is warm, friendly, and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. Every appointment is a wonderful experience thanks to Olivia's professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for her clients. I'm so grateful I found her and can't recommend her or the salon highly enough! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The experience started off good with a lovely receptionist who helped me get booked and checked in with ease, but the stylist Allison was horrible. From the beginning she dismissed my details about the texture of my hair (pin straight). Furthermore she was horribly uninformed about details such as pricing and scolded me for asking questions about other services. The haircut, was horrible as she failed to take into account the texture of my hair. When she realized the haircut was bad instead of offering solutions like a professional stylist would she just asked me to "jump in and fix it whenever". Wrapping this nightmare up she then pressured me for a tip before I paid for my haircut which I didn't know the cost off because Allison could not "recall". Needless to say this stylist was unprofessional, rude, and clueless, I did have good experiences with the other staff but the haircut and styling was so bad even the other staff were asking if I was "really" satisfied with the results. read more

Great service. Color and styling is always on point. Gave 4 stars only due to high costs, but the quality of work has always been great

I went in on the recommendation of a friend and scheduled an appointment. Scheduling by e-mail was smooth and they were able to accommodate the time range and stylist I requested. There was no wait, and I was brought back to get my hair washed. The attendant was very nice, and all-in-all it took less than 10 minutes. Then I went to get my hair cut. I have long thin hair. The stylist was a bit curt... she barely asked what I wanted, mentioned how she was 'very busy,' and that was the extent of the conversation. The entire cut took 5 minutes, and the blow dry another 5. No adjustments were made after the blow dry. I was not shown the back, barely shown the front (my seat was too short to see it well), and when I got home I discovered one side was about half an inch longer than the other side. I know I don't have much hair to work with, but it felt like a rush job...something I could have gotten at a barber shop for a lot cheaper. When I went to pay, I was surprised that the bill was much higher than the $63 quoted online. The receptionist said, 'You have long hair. That price is for short hair and then it goes up.' If you pay by credit card, there's also an extra charge. My cut was literally 5 minutes long, and not even in the end. Beware the up charges. For a 20 minute experience that came to over $80 (with tip), I will not be going back again. read more

I love the cleanliness. I really enjoy my stylist! Her name is Paulina, she's super sweet and takes my opinions into consideration. I hope to become a regular from now on. The service is quick and really easy to reach over online. read more

I've loved getting my hair done by Saliha, but it's been over 2 1/2 years of being rescheduled after booking MONTHS in advance. The past 3 appointments I booked 3-4 months ahead were ALL rescheduled 2 weeks-a week in with every excuse possible. First, her schedule changed to Monday's and Wednesday's, so they asked to reschedule. Next appointment, I was told she was busy and cancelled all her services that day. Now this week they call me to say she's canceling AGAIN because she only works Saturday's and the Saturday I booked MONTHS ago, she's busy. This upcoming appointment was for my birthday, and I lost patience with constantly changing MY schedule to accommodate my stylist. I really loved coming here, but I can't recommend this place to anyone that actually wants their appointment to follow through. read more

I have no complaints with the Fair Lakes salon. I've seen Olivia for several years and she and the staff are always wonderful. I was rather disappointed in my visit today, however. When I went to pay, I was charged a fee for using a credit card. I understand many businesses are doing this. The company I work for is doing it. But there was no warning to clients and there was nothing to tell me until it was a done deal that I would be charged this extra fee. A good business practice would've been to put a sign up a month or two before this change was made to let clients know that the next time they came in they would be subject to this fee. There should also be a sign at the desk now, letting us know about this before we choose our payment method. At the very least, perhaps the receptionist should say something. The only notification is in the bottom right corner next to the front door 2 inches above the ground. Seriously, who looks at a sign on the floor? I hope this business will be considerate enough going forward to invite other kinds of payment such as Venmo. It's not very good customer service to be hit with this fee without warning and when it's too late to do anything about it. read more

Vibe is off. So many stylists standing around doing nothing... N O T H I N G... meanwhile my stylist is unprofessionally late and not sorry for it. Don't bother with this place, it's a hair cuttery with better lighting. read more

UPDATE I came in last year some time around April-May to get my hair dyed red. Recently I've been wanting to go back to blonde (slowly of course - I am aware red dye is extremely hard to remove from your hair and bleaching it will be a challenge) so I've gone to several hair stylists who have done a bleach test strand on my hair. After doing a test strand every one of them (3) has told me that it's red box dye in my hair; the test strands came out blotchy which indicated box dye. I've never once dyed my hair at home let alone dye it red any else where. I was left completely clueless up until now. I can't believe I paid ~$260 for a hair dye and cut at a professional salon just to now find out that they used red box dye on me. read more

I think that there is probably nobody in NOVA that I trust to color my hair as much as David. I usually go to his flagship Springfield location, but will happily drive 40 minutes to Fairfax if I can get an appointment with him there faster than in Springfield. I have gotten full color, highlight, highlights with lowlights, and streaks. He advises me based on what the shape of my hair is at the time, and always gets it perfectly. On top of that, his cuts are superb, framing and flattering the shape of my face. I know that it is a lot pricier than a Hair Cuttery... but you do get what you pay for. read more

I've been coming to Sam for 3 or 4 years now for my regular hair cut and she's always done an amazing job. She's also been begging to color my hair. Well for the first time in my life, I let her do a sombre on me a few weeks ago and it turned out amazing. I've gotten so many compliments from my friends. I love the way it flows and doesn't look unnatural. Sam is amazing and really listens to what I wanted. Thank you Sam! read more

I randomly walked in to this salon about a year ago to make a appt and haven't looked back since!! I had the pleasure of having Shaphali as my stylist and not enough words can describe how wonderful she is. Shaphali instantly made me feel welcome and by the time my haircut was done I felt like we had known each other for a long time. She does an amazing job with my haircuts, styling and coloring and always has a great ideas and suggestions. I highly recommend Shaphali and you will never be disappointed she is a consummate professional. I promise you once she does your hair you will be a repeat customer for life. read more

I have been going to see Sasha R. for years (since about 2017 I think, I have lost track!) and cannot recommend both her and the salon enough. Everyone is incredibly polite, the salon is always sparkling clean, and Sasha always makes sure my hair is absolutely perfect. I have gone from natural blonde, to platinum blonde, to reddish brown, to blue, and back to platinum, and Sasha gets it spot on every time. I am currently pregnant, so did not want to do the standard full bleach, so she took the time on my most recent visit to do a million babylights all over and I have already gotten multiple compliments in just a few days. If you are looking for a stylist and a salon, go see Sasha R. ASAP! read more

I can not express how grateful I am to have found Sal at Jon David Salon in Fairfax. When you find a good hairdresser it's like you have won the lottery!! I had my first haircut at Jon David Salon with Saliha. She is fantastic. She took the time to talk to me about my options and gave excellent recommendations. I went in for a cut and color and she did an amazing job. I loved that she took her time and I didn't feel rushed at all. It's been a while since I've gotten a haircut I've really liked and I will definitely be making this my regular salon from now onwards. read more

Olivia is amazing. I always have anxiety when trying a new hair stylist because I've had so many bad experiences before. I asked for a simple haircut, trim, and added layers. I love how quick she cut my hair with such precision. I really like my feathery layers and how it blends. I like her energy a lot. Although I was anxious at first, her calm energy really help put me at ease. The price for my haircut was a plus especially for her level of expertise. I highly recommend Olivia to all who are hesitant to try a new stylist. I will definitely be coming back to see Olivia for future hair needs! read more

I have been going to Jon David salon for 15 years! Starting in Springfield, and now that they are open closer to home.. Clifton. My original stylist moved out of the area and I was looking fora new one. Been to a few other than Jon David salon but I never felt comfortable and happy with anyone. I decided to just call the Clifton location and see who is recommended and that is how I met Mary. Talk about 1. Feeling like I'm back at home 2. That I wasn't just a mother customer to put on the books for money 3. Amazingly sweet and caring hair stylist, who wants to make me happy!!! She is one of the sweetest and most wonderful stylist I've ever met. Very personable, cares about making her client feel happy about whatever the end result is. My hair was a mess, with bad days, earring color, grays every where ... it wasn't pretty. First time I walked out, it was gorgeous... best part I wasn't charged insane amount of money to fix my hair color ( hair is only a little past my chin) some places were quoting me a STARTING rate of $300!!!! And wanted to bleach out my entire head first! Are you kidding me.. I have deep dark hair, super thick, and would simply break off if that was done. I have been back to Mary again for root touch up and she always styles my hair before I walk out the door. Even if I don't have an event. I have officially found my new colored and stylist! read more

I sent my daughter down for a Balayage which turned out great, Olivia did her hair. I was quoted $220-$250 for the service but when we paid it was $307 not including tip. They charge for blow dry and toner which to me should have been discussed prior to the service. Although her hair did look amazing, we won't be back just out of principle. read more

So frustrating - been going to the same stylist at Jon David Fairfax for almost 7 months, so 6 cuts but every time it's like the 1st - she doesn't remember a thing, and ignores what I ask for, cuts it to some other style. Every cut is a different issue - she just doesn't care enough to listen I guess. And the cut is awful - one side is shorter than the other, she "can't" blend it so that there's no "shelf" of hair. I've been saying this is the last time - but this is it. I'm done. They have gone down in quality so much over the past 2 years. read more

Let me start by saying I haven't had a hair cut in two years, I had been trying forever to find a stylist that I loved and just never seemed to be able to find someone, so I kind of gave up. My hair was long - below my shoulder blades - and my split ends went on for days. We just moved to Centreville and I was at that point where if I didn't find someone, I was going to chop off my hair myself. I did some research online and Jon David had great reviews. I requested an appt. in the morning and was able to get one for that same afternoon with Steve. Steve was awesome. I told him how long it had been and clearly, my hair was very damaged. I told him what I wanted and how much I wanted cut off. He listened to me and after making the first cut (about 5.5 inches), I told him that I wanted to go even shorter. He said he would, but he also gave me his opinion. He said lets cut your hair at this length and then after, if you really want to go shorter, then we will. I'm REALLY glad I listened to him because I definitely wouldn't have wanted to go shorter. Yeah, I wanted to chop off all my hair, but once it actually happens, it's a little shocking. I just really appreciate that he voiced his opinion and didn't just do exactly what I said. He also gave me really good advice on how to take care of my hair until my next hair cut. I will most definitely be going back...way before the next two years is up :) read more

I don't normally write reviews but I was so happy with the service I needed it. I love the professionalism they had. Everyone was wearing masks and following social distancing protocols. I saw Alison and she was quick and did great work! No one tried to sell me products until I asked for recommendations and then they recommended a few products and let me pick one. Usually at haircuts I have people trying to sell me 27 products that I'll never use so I appreciated this change so much! Overall would absolutely recommend and will be coming back for future haircuts. read more

So....I am not one to get my hair dyed at a salon on a regular basis. I usually do it myself since it's cheaper. For some reason every time I do go to a salon and get my hair dyed red, it comes out all wrong. Anyways, I went to the Jon David Salon after recommendation from a good friend. I was hoping for a nice Auburn (think Emma Stone in Easy A), but instead came out looking like Evie Marie from the WWE. Yeaaaahhhh.......definitely was not what I was going for. I was disappointed in the results being that I even showed the stylist a picture. I was offered a 20% discount on my next visit, but unfortunately I don;t think i will be cashing in on that. read more

This is my first time - came in because I had won a gift card at an event I had attended in the past. I wanted come check them out at some point for a haircut but ended up coming for color correction instead. I was assigned to Steve. He is this awesome Korean stylist. My hair was highlighted in DC - it was a good job overall, it just ended up being too light. I showed him some pics and he gave me his input and we came to a beautiful agreement! The result was amazing - darker with subtle golden highlights. Not only that, he was very kind, and knowledgeable. The best words to describe him - methodical and meticulous. The owner also came by and took a few glances to make sure eve thing was going as planned. He was very kind as well. I am very happy with this place- little gem in Centreville.
