My fiancé is a UPS driver so his hours are pretty long so we looked for a place that stayed open late for our date night. Their hours of business are listed as 11am - 12 am on Fridays on Yelp. We got there at 9pm and was not informed that they were closing at 10pm until after our appetizers and drinks were already served. I work in restaurants and know how it can be frustrating to have to wait on one table to leave, so we probably wouldn't have dined in if we knew/ it wasn't a full restaurant.... but I have never had service this bad and unwelcoming. We were completely rushed the whole time we were dining and pushed out before 9:50. We barley had time to look at the menu, let alone speak to each other. They were very rude, standing around us, staring and coming up to us multiple times for the check/ tip but wouldn't give us a moment to speak to us or even let us apologize and explain why we came in an hour before closing. Very unaccommodating, the whole staff was pushing us to leave before they were closed. This was a horrible experience and We won't be back, and will recommend anyone we know not to go either. read more

This is a really good sushi and hibachi restaurant. The decor is very nice. We went in for a late lunch the servers were very friendly I had sushi and my husband had hibachi the fish was fresh and my husband really enjoyed the hibachi lunch and the "show" was great! read more

Ordered sushi from here this weekend and it was good. I wanted to give it 5 stars but felt the four sushi rolls we ordered were a little on the bland side and tasted the same despite choosing different types of fish for each. I was surprised at how inexpensive the rolls were (mostly $8/roll) and also how much rice you got in an order of fried rice. The quantity is good and the quality too though a little more flavor would have been nice....I'll still order from here again and try different rolls since so many of them seemed tasty!! read more

Valentine's Day Sneaky Move!!!! 2-14-19 went to grab a quick lunch with a co-worker at Haiku. Once we were ready to order, we were told that we could only order from the DINNER menu which was much more expensive. There were no signs notifying customers anywhere, nor were we told when they brought us to the table. If we knew that this was the case, we would have gone somewhere else. This was not a ROMANTIC lunch. We were told by two different waitresses that this was the Manager's decision. I find this very unethical and will not go back. This was our first time here. We got eel sushi, red snapper sushi, Burning Man roll, Red Scorpion roll, and Devil Roll. The good: The Devil Roll was great! Small and unassuming but was very fresh and nicely spicy. Eel sushi was also very good. Burning Man was probably better than Red Scorpion but both were ok. Friendly and attentive service. We ordered delivery through the Waitr app and were disappointed. The edamame appetizer was not seasoned at all, not even with salt. My husband said his squid salad tasted fishy as did his burning man roll. In fact, he ate only one piece of the roll because he spit a fish scale out after his first bite. I had the rock & roll which was okay but was literally falling apart. It was not rolled tight so every time I picked up a piece with the chopsticks all the insides fell out. I gave one star because I have to give at least one. Even that one star would be a complete lie, except for the rainbow decor. That's pretty. The food: my avocado and our wasabi had dried out to a point of being stiff and having a "skin" on it. The snow crab tasted old, which is as gross as it sounds. The fresh fish was just okay, but the pepper tuna was gray - I actually pulled out my phone and used the flashlight because I thought maybe it was the lighting. Are you kidding me for 4 star review at this place? I have been relying on the reviews for everything I buy and visit. However this one was a disappointment. We went to the Hibachi there the very first time and were very disappointed. The food was very salty. It could make your eyes popping out from the sockets and your blood pressure was shooting up to the top of the chart! The next thing you knew the next morning you had the biggest bags under your eyes. The Hibachi chef did nothing to make it worthwhile sitting at the Hibachi table, just plain boring! To make it worse, his cooking skill was not there either since only two things I tasted on the food were greasy and salty. The service was not friendly either. I would give it three star on the service but the food deserved no star if I could unfortunately there's no option for that. It was an expensive meal for what you got. I have been to several Hibachis in the past. This was the worst! Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I've been here before and the service was bad but not this bad. It's gotten 100% worse!! My friend and I walked in and seated ourselves and started looking at the menu. We were ready to order and our waitress Eilin was on her phone the whole time and wouldn't take our order. She finally decided to get off her phone and take our order. My friend started to tell her what she wanted and her phone started ringing. She told her to hold on and took her phone call!!! It was unbelievable, i've never seen someone be so rude at a restaurant. So she comes back, takes our order and leaves. Another waitress brought us soup. I finished my soup and my friend was still eating it. The lady came to get my bowl and took my friend's bowl WHILE SHE WAS STILL DRINKING IT!!! So we finally got our sushi after 30 minutes of waiting. We ordered the Mandeville Roll and on the sushi menu it says it comes with 8 pieces. I specifically ordered the Mandeville for the 8 pieces because the Cajun roll said it came with 5 pieces. They only gave us 5 pieces. My friend asked why it didn't come with 8 pieces and we showed her the menu. She made many excuses like "oh he must of made the wrong roll" and "no all deep fry are 5 pieces". So my friend told her well you might want to change the menu. and she said she'll talk to her manager about it. She didn't offer us a discount to make it cheaper, she didn't even give us 3 more pieces. It was their fault the menu was wrong, not us. They ripped us off. They made us pay full price and lied to us about the food amount on the menu. Don't ever go here unless you want to be ripped off and have awful service. it's not worth the food or money to be disrespected and lied to. There are so many complaints about this restaurant for a reason. This place has horrible staff and needs to be shut down. read more

Waited to order dinner for a long time. My two friends received sushi in a timely manner. My Hibachi dinner arrived 20 minutes later because of the "busy kitchen" after my dinner party was finished eating. Water was never refilled. This place is the hibachi I have been searching for on the Northshore! We had the Rock and Roll sushi with Soy Paper...AMAZING!! The hibachi cook was entertaining and had skills! Best cook I have seen so far. We had the Chicken and Shrimp Combo Dinner and it was delicious and flavored perfectly. The restaurant is super clean and beautifully decorated. My only criticism would be too many onions in the veggies, but I don't eat onions. We will be back for sure!! YUM! read more

All that stands in the way of a 5-star is a little work on service. It wasn't bad, mind you. But it wasn't fabulous either. The fish, on the other hand, was terrific. Very fresh, nicely presented sashimi and nigiri. They also offer an astonishing variety of maki, some of it quite inventive. And there are cooked items and even teppanyaki for those unfortunate souls who cannot abide raw fish. Mandeville and Covington are lousy with mediocre sushi places. Haiku is the best we've found in the area. Highly recommended. read more

We enjoyed everything about this restaurant! The food is wonderful & the wait staff was amazing. We will definitely be coming back! We didn't have the hibachi but the chefs working the hibachi were entertaining everyone seated around the hibachi griddles. We will be coming back soon to enjoy this fun part of the restaurant. Sushi is one of my favorite things to eat and if you enjoy really good sushi please do not visit this place. There was a bad after taste to every roll no matter what kind, the raw fish was not fresh and the tempura shrimp was soaked in grease. The rolls were not tightly rolled and fell apart. The steamed Gyoza was fried and also very greasy. The edamame was over cooked and had no salt at all. This was my first time visiting Haiku and the last time. If you want GOOD sushi in Covington then visit Yujjin (first choice) or Green Tea they are by far the best.. read more

Server took our clear soup while we were still eating it. We waited forever for refills. Edamame appetizer had no seasoning, even though I asked for the spicy kind. I ordered cook sushi and fiancé ordered raw, and they came out touching each other (for some reason my one sushi roll was on a plate with one of his, while his two other ones were on plates by themselves? Not sure why they wouldn't have given me my own plate). I told our server, and she took the sushi rolls back. This was our first time dining at this hibachi restaurant, so we decided to sit at the hibachi table. The food was plentiful, but the sauces were very sweet. The ginger dressing was supposed to be sweetened, but this was a different level of sweet. The sauces on the vegetables, rice, beef and shrimp were excessively sweet. The yum yum sauce was over the top sweet. The service was excellent!!! I can't say enough about the staff- they were sweet in a good way! This is a cute hibachi joint that is much better than you'd think because of it's location. A bit hidden in a strip mall so it can be easy to miss. The sushi bar is the first thing you notice because it takes up at least 1/3 of the restaurant, which to me is nice. It gets points for ambience too. The hibachi tables are spaced appropriately & each one seats at least 10-12. The chefs are light hearted & entertaining as they prepare your meal. Especially if you are dining with your family, the kids will be mesmerized by the show. If you are a repeat customer it is still fun to watch the little ones faces. Lastly the food is consistently good & in the north shore that is important. Too many tasty alternate dining options are available so you can just about bank on the fact that places have got to be fairly good or else they are quickly replaced. I don't usually stray from my regular sushi restaurant lineup...I have three places on the Northshore that we go to at least once every other week (Yujin, Little Tokyo, Kazuko). It was a Sunday when we went, and we were startled to discover there aren't many sushi joints open on Sundays (the scary realization that you may not have sushi that night O___o)! After I saw the reviews for Haiku we decided to try it out. First impression was that it's nice and clean, newer decor, a beautiful light installation taking up one of the walls, staff seemed nice. Very impressed with the sushi roll menu, one full page, front and back. Both the kids loved the place - ordered extra fish soup and tempura chicken. My boyfriend and I had white tuna (so damned delicious and fresh WOWEE), Calimari Crunchy Roll (came with two extra pieces of tempura squid that was the PERFECT texture), Luau Roll, and the Mack Attack Roll. I cannot say enough great things about this place. The sushi was to die for, I don't think we will ever go anywhere else again! The fish tasted like it jumped straight from the Gulf onto our plates...the flavor combos for the new rolls we had tried were absurdly delicious. Just talking about this place the day after makes me want to run there now for lunch! The prices are decent, just the same as any other sushi spot. Staff was helpful and super nice with our kids. We will be back....probably this week! One more not so important note - when we pulled up the first thing I commented on was their beautiful sign. It's designed with a koi fish in the name and it just looks great. It's a little far back from the road, so it may still be a hidden gem at this point, but I guarantee people will catch on fast. Terrible service. We walked in to eat hibachi. They sat us at one table with a few other guests because the other table was at capacity. After getting our drink orders and soup, the owner tried to make us move to the full table, and seat the three of us in a tiny spot at the back of the table. If we would have sat where he was trying to place us, we would have been cramped and unable to see the show. We left. No one tried to stop us or accommodate us.
