Lost Our Home Pet Rescue

LOH gave me something I badly needed during one of the hardest chapters of my life: peace of mind…read more Knowing that the love of my life -- my ESA Yorkie, Praise -- was safe, cared for, and loved allowed me to focus on picking up the broken pieces of my life and rebuilding my stability. They went above and beyond for us. LOH and their volunteer foster families honored my request to visit Praise every other weekend and even allowed me to bathe him at their facility because he's so sensitive about being groomed since he is very tiny and has very sensitive skin. Those small acts of kindness made an enormous difference for my and Praise's well-being. When I finally reached a place of stability, I was able to bring Praise home -- bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, full of joy, and with lots of toys and kibble -- and together we moved into our new home to continue our healing journey. I can't wait to give back to LOH and volunteer my time to support others who are facing the same struggles I went through. They've welcomed both me and Praise to volunteer. LOH and their volunteer foster families are truly a lifeline for anyone who has an emotional support animal or beloved pet and needs a safe place for them while they rebuild their life. They give you the comfort of knowing your companion is safe, cared for, and waiting for you when you're ready.

On Sunday we went to look for a dog we're met by a brunette haired volunteer that was rude and…read moreseemed like we were an inconvenience to them being there. She helped us see a dog. We filled out interest form on the way to shelter. We were interested in looking at a puppy we met the day before. The lady had to ask her supervisor to get someone decided if we can see a puppy. She cleaned the room for is got us ready to go in room. Then went to get the puppy she was very rude. we wanted to see. She had difficulties getting the puppies from kennel. Then the puppies got lost she could be heard saying puppies got lose. Then we hear the puppies whine sounded like 1 got hurt. Whe. She was trying to get them back i kennel. When asked if a puppy got hurt she just said no 1 got in cage by its self thats the whining we heard. She let is visit woth the puppie when she came back she had alpt of flaws with the answers on our form. Rather then get clearlifacation on our answers. She said they were red flags that we are not a god match. She made asunmuptions based off an interest for that was filled out out loud while drivingWe didnt know the answer for 1 question whwn we got there they said its just interested form. We had just been there the day before and they had asked the same questions and were much nicer. If we had red flags why didnt the supervisor at the front come talk to us. The whole thing was rude. We had just lost a puppy be cause of a congenital condition. So we were already distraught fro the lose. She was very disrespectful and didn't fully know how a current dog and new dog greet work. She sent us to front when they dont do that on sundays. She was very judgmental and we already had a dog at home so know how to care for a dog had explained that the day before. We had planed to leave with 1 of the 2 dogs we viewed. We didn't adopt because of how that volunteer treated us.

We adopted a dog from them a couple weeks ago and everyone was so nice when we came in to meet him!…read moreI guess the dog we picked was a favorite and it really showed because everyone wanted to come say bye to him and was so excited he was getting a forever home and he was so excited when they came out which really shows how well they treated him. You can tell how much they care about the dogs they have there!! They also wanted updates on him and how he was settling in and it was just all around an awesome experience and we absolutely LOVE our new dog!! He is such a sweetie pie and exactly how they described him. I got a like 8 page meticulous medical report on him and his health because he was part of a group of dogs they got from an overcrowded home and quite a few were sick when they got them. It was such a great experience and when we are ready to get another dog, we will absolutely be back! Couldn't recommend this rescue more!!!

We went to Petsmart in 2012 for cat food. Had no plan to come home with a dog. This small dog…read morerescue pulled small dogs from the kill shelter who were going to to be euthanized Monday, and take them to Petsmarts to find them a home. We knew no one knew much about the little fella. He melted our heart, and our daughter had fish, hermit crabs, birds, and cats, but never had a dog yet. He melted our hearts. When we picked him up he grabbed onto us. And didn't want to be put back down. Needless to say we came home with a pup and cat food. He needed some veterinary care. After a week he was doing great. He has gluten, soy, and dairy allergies just like us, so he was a perfect fit. We were perfect for him as well since our eyes were open to his needs and how to feed him. We have had him 13 years now. He is 14 and is still the same happy silly pup. I don't know how they obtain dogs these days, but we are thankful he is a part of our lives.

It was a total hassle, horrible communication. And when we went to visit them before the adoption we were accosted by children at some sort of birthday party. The cats were STRESSED. WE WERE STRESSED. They scheduled our meeting with a birthday party for some young kids who were just flicking cat toys in our face and all the cats faces and running around so we couldn't interact like we would have hoped too. When we went to pick the boys up finally( 2 brothers who we were told wereNOT bonded but absolutely were.. thank goodness we took both)(..There was some sort of 'date' event going on and I had people swarming me constantly while I was trying to connect and CATCH the kitties we were taking home. It was a disaster. The price to adopt both was a Little outrageous as well considering you could tell they were fighting for food.... I appreciate what this woman is doing and please please adopt and don't shop, but be ready to spend some money and be frustrated trying to adopt.... Or even get a coffee from this cat 'CAFE'

We have found that this shelter really cares about their pups, especially what type of home an adoptee is going to be part of. They do a great job of matching up their new family members. Our pup has become the BEST addition to our family. She was from a hoarding situ and was skittish, but she has become one of the sweetest family members we have ever had and we ADORE her! Valley Dogs is an extremely caring group that really does match up pups and their families. We are grateful they care so much about the pups in need! We highly recommend them for adopting your next family member. They truly are an awesome group!

I have…read morefostered dogs for several local and non-local rescue groups including Valley Dogs, but what strikes me most about Valley Dogs is the animals they choose to pull from the shelters. Valley Dogs is run by a man named Michael West. From what I've observed, Michael chooses to take on the dogs that need the most help medically - the dogs hit by cars, obese owner surrenders, pregnant owner surrenders, older dogs with big hearts (figuratively) and medical conditions... I am not sure how he manages to finance all of this. Valley Dogs holds a few fund raisers through out the year, but I know the cost to get his dogs in good enough health to be adopted must be daunting. I can see the stress in his face every time I see him. However, he keeps pulling dogs in great need from the shelter because I don't think he can turn away. All of Valley Dogs rescues are fostered before they go up for adoption. This is a fantastic thing. Michael takes on a lot of these dogs. There is always a beautiful and kind red head (his wife?) that is with him at the adoptions and an older veteran as well. They foster a lot of the dogs, too. They know the quirks and idiosyncrasies of each of the dogs they foster. This helps with placement. I love this group. They are human, but they must be hidden angels because the dogs they are helping are the ones most definitely the most in need. They are very often at the PetsMart on 20th and Highland on the weekends trying to find homes for their dogs. If you see them and want a specific type of dog, I would imagine they would scour the shelters for you
