They take time to get to know the adopters, make sure they are a good fit. As well as, tour your the home and check for safety concerns. Most people don't know what they are getting into with a German Shepherd, so they make sure you understand. Tank ate some drywall at the rescue the night before we took him home. They said if we had any issues let them know. He ended up getting gastritis and was vomiting and had diarrhea. They told us go to urgent care & were there the whole way supporting us. They even took care of the $1300 urgent care bill, knowing he was being a German shepherd puppy and chew stuff. God bless this rescue & all the people that help to make it successful! We were shocked novody else was interested in this sweet boy and his foster eas very kind and informative to help us make sure he was a good fit for our home. They were also very patient with us running around to grab supplies. While the adoption fee is a bit higher than some rescues there is a tax break and it's nice that majority if the shots were paid and planned along with the neutering. Andy came home healthy with us and immediately took to his big sister who he loves so much. We knew no one knew much about the little fella. He melted our heart, and our daughter had fish, hermit crabs, birds, and cats, but never had a dog yet. He melted our hearts. When we picked him up he grabbed onto us. And didn't want to be put back down. Needless to say we came home with a pup and cat food. He needed some veterinary care. After a week he was doing great. He has gluten, soy, and dairy allergies just like us, so he was a perfect fit. We were perfect for him as well since our eyes were open to his needs and how to feed him. We have had him 13 years now. He is 14 and is still the same happy silly pup. I don't know how they obtain dogs these days, but we are thankful he is a part of our lives.

In November of 2016 my boyfriend and I decided to wander into Sun Valley looking for another cat to…read moreadd to our otherwise quiet home. The place is clean, well-maintained and when we walked in were greeted kindly and asked to sign in before being directed back to the cat room - everyone greeted us with a smile on their face and in the FOUR TIMES I came back within the next month not one of those times did it change! Each time we went we spent about an hour in the cat room getting to know the cats. We had chosen a cat after the first session but knowing she had been at the shelter for some time wanted to come back to make sure she was the right fit. After 3 other times of coming to see her we adopted Calista. We filled out an adoption application, got an interview with a counselor, showed documentation that our condo allowed us to have another cat and while many people feel like this may all be excessive it's because they genuinely care about the health and well being of these animals. Having an animal is a life long commitment and the staff and volunteers understand that and want to make sure everyone else does too. I couldn't be happier, Calista ended up being the perfect cat for our household and fit in with our other cat as if they were a bonded pair. The amount of love and care the staff gives to these animals is admirable and if you're truly committed to finding your furrever friend then Sun Valley is the way to go!

We checked with the Humane Society and surprisingly their prices were so affordable. As to the actual service, I can't believe it how much the Humane Society has changed since the last time we had to do this about 12 years ago. You can decide to be with your pet up until the actual second shot which you cannot see. Or you can decide to just drop your pet off. You also can ask for the body back to keep things cheap cheaper and then take it to the Maricopa County animal control and they will dispose of the body for $15. It is illegal to bury a pet in Arizona. You get an appointment there is a special room for euthanasia. Dimly lit, soft music, flickering LED candles. They come in and tell you exactly how it's going to happen. They ask you when you're ready to let them know. Then they come in and give the shot that will just make them go to sleep then they will tell you to ring the doorbell, which is on the wall when you are ready for them to come and take your pet for the final shot. We decided to go with cremation, but did not want the ashes back, which is cheaper than if you do want the ashes back A week later, we had to put down our other dog that we had for very similar reasons we had gotten both dogs one week apart and unfortunately, they both were euthanized one week apart 16 years later. Unfortunately, it was a Friday and we knew this couldn't wait until Monday and we couldn't get an appointment. We went elsewhere for the second dog, and while it wasn't a terrible experience, it was nothing like the respectful quiet time that we had at Humane Society. In fact, I told the vet how they do things that Humane Society. And she thought all of that was a great idea and said that they had a spare room that they were trying to figure out what to do with, and she made the decision right then to try to emulate what the Humane Society is doing.
